In this episode we’re going to look at an old testament text which we don’t do often on this podcast. The nature of Holiness changed drastically from the Old Testament to the New Testament. The New Testament focuses primarily on the work of the Holy Spirit. However it’s crucial to understand that early on in the book of Exodus we see God’s desire to have relationship with His children.

The apostle Paul was quick to both acknowledge and reflect upon the troubles of life which came his way in serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Especially in II Corinthians, Paul is focused upon the messiness of life and the faithfulness of God to sustain His children through all manner of troubles and challenges.
Our textual passage in II Cor. 4:16-18 is a representative capsule of truth addressed to Christians about how to face life's difficulties. We were told by Jesus to expect them (John 16:33 “...in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”). This lesson outlines how God works through the various dimensions of our life to keep us spiritually strong and fruitful!

This podcast begins a short series on The Gift of Holiness. Every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit and is thereby made holy. (Romans 8:9) If you are a Christian, you are a saint, a holy one, essentially meaning that you are “set apart for Christ”. That is by virtue of the indwelling Holy Spirit in your life.

This podcast begins a series on how holiness is expressed in the lives of Christians as it relates to worldly possessions. Lt. Colonel Jewett suggests that an important foundational principle is that God has provided “enough” resources to provide for the basic needs of everyone. The Christian who lives intimately with God is satisfied with “enough” and lives in stark contrast to a world that serves “mammon” (money) and is driven by greed, excess, entitlement, overconsumption and over productivity.

The story of the call of Abraham recorded in the 12th chapter of Genesis represents the first appearance of God to a person after the Fall of Adam and Eve. The relationship which God establishes with Abram (before his name is changed) is personal and based upon a covenant. The altars which Abram builds are outward expressions of yielding his heart to God's will.
It is no surprise to see that the basic principles established in this relationship between God and Abraham are foundational to the Biblical call to God's people to live holy lives. The call to obedient faith and the importance of the altar are evidence of our allegiance to God. The call to holy living in I Peter 1:15-19 and 2:9-11 is examined in light of the story of Abraham.

This is the first study of a three-part series on holiness and spiritual gifts in I Corinthians 12-14. Paul's teaching on spiritual gifts is in the context of his lengthy teaching on the body of Christ. This study identifies four (4) underlying principles in chapter 12 that serve as practical guidelines for corporate holiness.
Although they emerge clearly from the text as foundational to the ministry and life of any congregation, in practice these principles are often obscured by the constant pressure of church activities. They are simply stated as follows: God desires that in the body of Christ there are no independent people, no unimportant people, no self-made people and no stagnant people.

This is the third lesson in our series on Romans 5-8. In this lesson we see how Paul brings the teaching to a climax with the glorious description of sanctified Christians being “more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (8:28) This affirming picture is contrasted with the tortured struggle of an unsaved person under conviction in chapter 7, mistakenly interpreted by some as referring to a Christian. In contrast, the great truths of chapter 8 declare that Christians need not struggle spiritually because of the indwelling, empowering Holy Spirit.

Agape Love is the supreme mark of Jesus in a Christian's life. The character transformation which holy living brings is built on and fueled by agape love. This lesson explores agape love and holiness through the lens of Romans 12:9 - “(agape) love must be un-hypocritical.” In other words, let it genuine, without pretense, not phony!

We continue our study in Romans 12 to discover that what God is doing in this passage is character transformation. Paul introduces some character traits that come with this spiritual transformation. These changes help bring about the Christlike character which God desires for all followers of Jesus. God makes these changes and they are no less than spiritual miracles. The first “mark of Jesus” he teaches is humility.
After finishing our 3rd episode of this new show, we wanted to pause for a moment and sit down with Colonel Jewett to learn a bit more about him and his heart for this new ministry. God has provided all we need to live a holy life. What a remarkable plan. The apostle Paul learns through a 'thorn in the flesh' that our contribution is weakness while God's contribution is power by His grace!
