Episode 83: The Difference in Dieting Women Sonia Spil, coach and owner of Body Lab Seattle joined us today for a round table discussion on the ins and outs of dieting gen pop and competitor females. We discuss mindset considerations, timeline, and various strategies for training, cardio, and supplementation in relation to hormones. Women's bodies are not more fragile than men's bodies. The difference lies in the simple fact that women can give birth, and this responsibility creates more opportunities for stress to affect systems of the body. In this episode we provide solutions on how to manage stress and keep our female clients progressing.

Fear is the default ruling mindset of many people today, and the law of attraction requires one to first step out of fear and into the idea that the universe gives infinitely if you put the right energy in.

Today we decided to open up about a subject many people struggle with but few wish to discuss: body image issues. It's more prevalent than you may think, and despite what social media may portray, chances are if you have a body, you have body image issues. But it's okay, we have them too.
We discuss five main groups or ways body image issues can arise: while feeding up for hormonal repair, in men with low T, during improvement seasons, in former competitors, while transitioning away from competing, and in the general population.
If you have body image issues reach out to someone for support. If you believe you have serious issues, seek professional help.

Episode 65: The Costs of Doing Business
Today we invited Jason Phillips back onto the cartel to join us in sharing our stories and struggles as coaches and business owners.
While most people think about strategy, revenue, and operations when it comes to business, few think about or are willing to talk about emotional availability, inadequacy, and the desire to be so good at what you do that you’re willing to let other areas of your life crumble.
Success and fulfillment are two different things that don’t always go together. Far too often people think the solution is more, and tie their decision making to projected or perceived outcomes.
But at the end of the day, you’ve gotta like what you see in the mirror and you’ve gotta love the process.
We hope you find direction and some peace in our stories.

There are many obstacles and problems a business faces in the start up and early growth phases. Getting people to buy your product or service is the main goal and problem most businesses owners face.
But what if your growth exceeds your original expectations and now too many people want your product or service?
This is the problem known as "scalability". Can you continue to grow to meet increased demand without comprising quality?
Today we went round table style on the lessons we've learned while expanding our individual coaching businesses.
We talk about managing difficult clients, what operational systems we have in place, pricing strategies, etc. and how all of that has evolved for each of us over time.

Today we sat down with coach Tim English (@everycaloriecounts) to discuss all things stress related and the considerations we make as coaches to manage stress in our clientele.

Episode 56: Turning Pro with Steven Pressfield
Today we were joined by the author of The War of Art, and The Legend of Bagger Vance, Steven Pressfield, to talk about his book Turning Pro.
Many of us spend the majority of our lives as amateurs, floating in the current, letting life take us directionless into the depths of distraction and addiction.
Our addictions aren't always drugs, but complacency. Living in the "almost was". Our distractions aren't always our phones, but our egos and our fear of becoming our truest, highest, and deepest selves.
Pressfield's book suggests that many of us are living amateur, "shadow lives" - fake versions of our true calling bound by fear and self-sabotage. But he also suggests that "turning pro" is free, and we talk about what it really takes to look yourself in the mirror, hate what you see, and then change.

Episode 42: Life After Macros with Laurin Conlin
IFBB Bikini Pro and Coach Laurin Conlin joins us today for an in-depth discussion on the psychology and physiology behind "feeding up" and fixing our clients' relationship with food.
Tracking macros has become a mainstay approach in the fitness world and beyond, but what happens when you don't have macros or can't track what's on the plate in front of you?
In this episode we discuss what it means to eat intuitively and more importantly, how we coach the development of intuition so our clients can feed themselves properly for life.
Living attached to your food scale, an app, or a meal plan is neither ideal nor sustainable for life. There comes a point where these tools must only play their role when needed and are no longer necessary for daily living.

This week Jeff, Jason, and Jeffrey look back on their years in bodybuilding and coaching and offer some insight on what mistakes to avoid. From social media snafus to how not to diet females, we’ve done it all!
We also talk about the business of bodybuilding and how that landscape is being shaped.
We also announce our first guest next week along with how to win a free ticket to the Physique Education Collective!
The Excellence Cartel is a free podcast hosted by Jeff Black, Jeffrey Su, and Jason Theobald. Our mission is to bring to YOU our musings and experiences in the business of fitness. Leadership values, coaching methodology, and what it takes to build and maintain a strong brand.
There are plenty of podcasts about all the technical stuff around training and nutrition, but not too much about the strategy and mindset that goes into creating a successful platform within the industry.
Jeff, Jason, and I may not know it all nor are any of us the most successful out there but we’ve learned a trick or two in our experiences growing each of our own businesses.
The Excellence Cartel is a sneak peak into our brains, the wackiness that goes on inside, and the greatness we each hope to inspire in all of YOU.
