EUROPEAN silver medallist Phil Healy – the Ballineen Bullet – joins us on this week's podcast to chat about her incredible achievements at the European Championships in Rome.
Healy was part of the women's 4x400m team who thrilled the Irish crowd last week with a brilliant performance in the final, securing their silver medals with a new national record of 3:22:71.
The West Cork woman ran the third leg of the final and was an influential part of the team throughout the championships.
She joins us on the podcast to chat about intense racing, the support of the Irish crowd and how it felt when Sharlene Mawdsley crossed the line in second place.

NICOLA Tuthill is this week's podcast guest, fresh off the plane home from the European Championships in Rome.
The Bandon hammer thrower – still just 20 years old – finished in ninth position at her first ever senior European Championships and joins us to chat about an amazing experience, beating her personal best in recent weeks and her future potential.
We're also looking ahead to another big day out for both the Cork footballers and hurlers, with both teams in championship action this weekend in a double-header in Tullamore on Saturday.
First up at 3pm in O'Connor Park are John Cleary's footballers, who know that a positive result against Tyrone in their final group game of the All-Ireland SFC could leave them top of the group and straight into a Croke Park quarter-final, avoiding the preliminary round. After that, it's the hurlers turn, as they face Offaly in the preliminary quarter-final of the All-Ireland SHC. A win would put them into a quarter-final against Dublin and a chance at making the semi-final for the first time since 2018.

CLONAKILTY Soccer Club are West Cork League Premier Division champions for the first time, and to celebrate we are welcoming Shane Buttimer to the podcast this week to chat about how it felt to get the title over the line.
It was a nerve-wracking match on Sunday against defending champions Drinagh Rangers, who needed to beat Clon to secure first place. The game finished 2-2 and Clonakilty celebrated.
Buttimer and teammates had already won the Beamish Cup this season and could still add a third trophy to their cabinet, but the WCL title was their main focus in what was a brilliant season for Clonakilty.
We chat to Shane about how it felt when the final whistle blew last Sunday, what it means to Clonakilty to get their hands on the trophy and the immeasurable influence of manager John Leahy.
We're also looking back at a huge win for the Cork footballers who toppled Donegal in Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday, giving themselves a great chance at a Croke Park quarter-final at least this year.

WITH one game to go in the West Cork League Premier Division, two points separate Clonakilty Soccer Club and Drinagh Rangers. The pair meet in their final game of the season this Sunday, and Ger McCarthy joins us on this week's podcast to preview what will be a tense affair.
Clonakilty SC are top of the league on 46 points, with Drinagh travelling to Darrara College this Sunday knowing that only a win will suffice if they are to retain their status as champions.
Both teams have been almost perfect this season, losing just one league game. Clonakilty do have the slight upper hand and will take confidence in their recent Beamish Cup victory over Sunday's opponents, but those who write Drinagh off do so at their peril. It's going to be a fascinating game.

James O'Donovan has had a brilliant few weeks. The Bandon bowler won gold in the Moors competition at the European Bowling Championships in Germany before making his Netflix debut in Bodkin, and now joins us as a guest on the Star Sport Podcast!
We chat to O'Donovan about the trip to Germany, his delight at winning a gold medal in what was a tough competition, and what it was like getting in front of the Netflix cameras for their new series set in West Cork, Bodkin.

IT'S a Cork GAA special on this week's Star Sport Podcast as we look forward to a bumper weekend of action across all codes.
This Saturday, Cork ladies' footballers meet Kerry in the TG4 Munster senior championship final on Saturday in Mallow (4pm). While Cork are the defending Munster champions, Kerry are the form team, and the favourites heading into what will be an intriguing game this weekend.
Shane Ronayne will be without dual-star Libby Coppinger, who suffered an injury in the recent round-robin game against Tipperary, and as a result will miss both football and camogie finals this weekend.
Cork's B team are also in action in Mallow on Sunday in the Munster senior B final, throwing in at 2pm – fans will be hoping for double celebrations.
Cork face Waterford in the Munster senior camogie final this Sunday in Semple Stadium, Thurles (1.45pm). While Ger Manley's side will be confident heading into the game after hammering the Déise in the All-Ireland final last year, they will also have revenge on their minds, having been knocked out by Waterford at the quarter final stage of the Munster championship in 2023.
Elsewhere, Cork's senior footballers get their All-Ireland series underway this weekend away to Clare in what has been dubbed as a must-win game by many. Donegal and Tyrone are the other counties vying for a top three place in Group 3, so a good start is vital for John Cleary's men.
Throw-in at Cusack Park is at 6pm on Saturday.
And to round out the weekend, there's the small matter of another must-win game for the Cork senior hurlers as they also travel to Semple Stadium to face Tipperary, who themselves need a win to be in with a chance of qualifying for the All-Ireland series.
It's all go for Cork this weekend – let's hope it's a positive one!

CLONAKILTY won their first Beamish Cup title in 16 years at the weekend, beating Drinagh Rangers 3-2 in a victory that was widely celebrated in the town.
On this week's podcast we are joined by Liam Anthony White – a member of the cup final winning team in 2008 and again in 2024 – who chats about what it means for Clonakilty to win, their hopes for the WCL Premier Division this season and a lot more.
We're also joined by road bowling sensation Hannah Sexton, who is off to Germany this weekend for the European Bowling Championships. Sexton finished fifth on the road in 2022 and will be hoping to improve on her position at this year's competition.

CORK'S minor football manager Haulie O'Sullivan joins us on this week's podcast to chat about his sides chances in the upcoming Munster championship.
The former Carbery Rangers manager named a strong panel earlier in the month, and is looking forward to his side's opener against Kerry next Tuesday.

THIS week's Star Sport Podcast is a preview special, as we take a look at two big games taking place in Cork this weekend – Clonakilty SC vs Drinagh Rangers in the Beamish Cup final, and Cork vs Limerick in the Munster SFC quarter-final.
West Cork soccer fans will be hoping the weather doesn't postpone the Beamish Cup final this weekend – as Storm Kathleen brings gale force winds and a weather warning has been issued.
If the game does go ahead, it's bound to be a close one. Both teams are in great form this season, and will be battling it out at the top of the WCL Premier Division in the coming weeks.
Drinagh have the upper hand over Clonakilty, having beaten them in their two previous games this season but Clon are in good form, preparing for this game with a 10-0 victory over Beara in the league. It's anyone's Beamish Cup at Turner's Cross on Sunday.
Meanwhile, across the city, John Cleary's rebels will be in action against Limerick in the Munster SFC quarter-final. The winner will face Kerry in two weeks time and Cork will be expecting to be there.
It's been a mixed season for Cork so far, with a good run of results saving their league campaign after a tough start. Can they dispatch Limerick with the ease they are expected to? And could they reignite the Munster championship by winning this year? Time will tell.

OUR guest on this week's podcast is Andrea Stock, the latest West Cork rugby player to get called into an Irish rugby squad.
The former Bantry RFC player from Durrus is in the 34-strong Ireland women’s squad for the upcoming Guinness Women's Six Nations, swelling the West Cork interest as Skibbereen’s Enya Breen has also been included.
Ireland get their campaign underway away to France this Saturday at 2.15pm, and Stock is hoping to get on the pitch.
In 2018 Stock swapped West Cork for London when she started studying at Brunel University London – that opened the door into Wasps ladies team where she played for five seasons before she signed for Ealing Trailfinders last year. Her form was noticed by Ireland management and Stock was part of the extended training panel last year, before earning her spot in the squad for the 2024 Six Nations.
She joins us to chat about her rise to the Irish squad, why swapping ballet for rugby as a youngster is paying off and the role of Bantry RFC in her development as a player.

ON this week's podcast we are joined by former Castlehaven manager James McCarthy, who recently stepped away from the job after last season's success.
McCarthy led the Haven to the county and Munster senior football titles, before falling at the semi-final stage of the All-Ireland championship to St Brigid's of Roscommon.
It has been a successful four years for McCarthy, who leaves Castlehaven in a great position to continue battling for county titles, having brought through a number of younger players while in charge.
McCarthy is being replaced by Seanie Cahalane, who knows what it takes to be part of a winning team, having been a two-time county winning captain for Haven as well as being a selector for McCarthy last season.
Haven captain Mark Collins also joined the conversation to give a player's opinion on what exactly makes McCarthy such a good manager and to look forward to another long season ahead.

Gearóid reflects on the incredible season, the hard work put in by everyone associated with the club and the excitement as they countdown to the final.

ON this week's podcast we are celebrating Castlehaven's remarkable win over Dingle in the Munster senior football final – we're joined by captain Mark Collins to reflect on what some people are describing as the best win in Haven's history.
They battled through some biblical conditions to beat Kerry club champions Dingle in a penalty shootout following a drawn game – 13 points a piece – in which Haven never led but never let go of either.
Three points down going into the second half of extra time, Mark Collins produced an incredible point to get his team back on track and there were heroes all over the pitch for Haven.
Collins chats to Kieran about the game itself, the goalkeeping heroics of Damien Cahalane and how they will now turn their attention to an All-Ireland semi-final against Connacht champions St Brigid's, which will be played on January 7th in Semple Stadium at 1.45pm.
We're also joined on the podcast by Kinsale golfer John Murphy, who has had a challenging year competing in the DP World Tour for the first time.
Murphy chats to Seán Holland about travelling to far-flung places, the moment he realised he needed to take a break from competing and why he's always learning in a sport which can be difficult to make a living from.

The Rossa ladies beat Gusserane of Wexford by 2-12 to 0-6 in a home All-Ireland semi-final, which drew a big crowd at Rossa Park.
The reward is a place in the final on December 17th, which will take place in Parnell Park in Dublin.
O'Connell, Beechinor and Harte joined the podcast to chat about their incredible run to the final, what it was like playing in front of a packed home crowd and how their attention has quickly turned to the prospect of becoming All-Ireland champions.

Divisional teams are facing a lot of debate in Cork hurling at the moment, so Ryan is well-placed to talk about the challenges they face fitting into what can be a tight schedule for players and clubs alike.
We also look forward to a momentous occasion this weekend as O'Donovan Rossa ladies football team are hosting an All-Ireland junior football semi-final in Rossa Park in Skibbereen. The Skibb side brushed aside Glasgow Gaels away from home last weekend and are now looking forward to a match against Wexford's Gullerane for a place in the All-Ireland final.
Over 2,000 people are expected to make their way to Rossa Park for throw-in at 1.30pm on Saturday – the advice is to get in as early as you can, and walk to the ground if possible.

Castlehaven marched into the Munster senior premier football final with a victory against Rathgormack at the weekend – they'll be facing Kerry club champions Dingle in a highly-anticipated final on December 10th. We take a look back at the game against Rathgormack on this week's podcast.

WEST Cork is ready to take over the capital this weekend, as Castlehaven, Bantry Blues and Newcestown all take part in county finals in Pairc Uí Chaoimh.
On this week's podcast we welcome former Cork footballer Haulie O'Sullivan on to look ahead to what should be a great weekend of football and hurling, and to give his take on where each match could be won and lost.

ON this week's podcast we're joined by eight-time All-Ireland winner Ciara O'Sullivan to chat about the ongoing protests from female inter-county footballers and camogie players.
A statement released on June 19th by the Gaelic Players Association (GPA) revealed the players felt that 'our National Governing Bodies do not want to hear our real concerns.'
Since then, inter-county teams have been playing under protest, with both teams at last weekend's All-Ireland quarter-final between Cork and Armagh wearing jerseys with a sign saying #UnitedForEquality, and players will refuse to fulfil official media obligations for the rest of the championship season.
It's a fluid situation, but Ciara O'Sullivan joined us to give the players perspective on what progress has been made and what their hopes for the future are.
Elsewhere, we chat about Plunkett's brilliant county junior B football championship win and if they can make it a double with the club's hurling team in another junior B final this weekend. The knockout stages of the Cork county football championships get underway this weekend and we’re looking ahead to all of the big games involving West Cork sides on this week’s podcast.

West Cork athletics is going through something of a boom period at present with athletes from the region regularly making headlines at the biggest National and International events.
So with the Irish Life Health National Indoor Senior Championships set to take place at Abbottstown this weekend we thought we’d better talk to two of the biggest stars in the sport.
The Ballineen Bullet Phil Healy is Ireland’s fastest ever woman, an Olympic finalist and the first Irish woman to ever compete in three different events at the Olympic Games while Glengarriff’s Darragh McElhinney is one of the sports most exciting up and comers who recently won gold & silver medals at the u23 European Cross Country Championships.

Over the last few week’s on the podcast we’ve been focusing on the rebuild the Cork senior men’s footballers are going through under new manager Keith Ricken.

At the 2016 Olympics in Rio it was Gary and Paul O’Donovan who changed the game for Irish rowing, picking up the sports first ever Olympic medal.
This time round in Tokyo, the game changers have been the Irish heavyweight four, who returned home with Ireland’s first ever women’s Olympic rowing medal.

The 60m specialist has been ruled out of the Olympics through injury but thankfully the achilles damage isn’t as bad as originally feared.

This year already Fiona has enjoyed senior club success in both ladies football and camogie, winning the football title with West Cork and camogie with her club Courcey Rovers.

On Saturday the camogie association decided against implementing a rule geared towards facilitating dual players so there is plenty to dissect with Fiona.
