In the dictionary, boredom is described with words like monotony, dullness and tediousness. Spiritually, boredom is being at the “seat of the soul’s gate.” When boredom springs around us, what shall we do? Sit with the weariness and discomfort because running from it isn’t the answer. See boredom as a time of rejoicing.

If you had to give yourself a rating, on a scale from “0” to “10,” on how well you love yourself, what would your rating be?  Zero means you’re not giving yourself much love, while, “10” says you give yourself lots of love.  There are many ways that we can love ourselves. Let’s focus on our bodies.

There are a number of words to describe the mind—brain, intelligence, intellect, wits, brainpower, psyche, mentality, aptitude, cleverness, understanding, mental power, conscious, awareness and more. When you were young, did you ever have an adult say to you, “Watch what you put on your mind.” They were encouraging us to fill our minds with “good stuff” rather than bad.

Have you ever had a situation or person in your life that is constantly annoying to you?   Some of us may be dealing with this type of frustration right now.  Others may have in the past and are sitting there shaking their heads in recognition. What do you think you’re supposed to do in these instances? You’re not supposed to keep on being bothered.

Have you ever been asked by someone to name the five most
important things in your life? It is often stated that the most important things, in order, should be God, Self, Family and Friends and Work. For many people, what’s on their list and what’s most important changes, depending on where they are in their consciousness and their life journey. Many of us, particularly women, who tend to be the caregivers for everyone else in their lives, forget to even put ourselves on that list.

In Jeremiah 29:11-13 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

When you look up the word “focus,” as a noun it talks about being in the limelight, spotlight or what one gives attention to.  As a verb, the descriptions include centralize, concentrate and center.  From a spiritual perspective, focus is about thinking about what you want, not what you don’t want.

Back in the day, there was a television show called Starting Over. Our Beloved Iyanla, of Iyanla Fix My Life, was one of the life coaches. On one episode, she was teaching a woman about filling herself up with love. There were two big trashcans. One was filled with water and labeled “love.” The other was empty and had the woman’s name taped to it.

Within each of us is a regenerative spirit. We have the ability to revive and stimulate any aspect of our lives. We’re fortunate to be alive during a time where the events, happenings and advances around the world are extremely fascinating.

Ask yourself this question about creating the life you want....  If I could create my ideal days, what would I be doing? Now ask yourself, “To get to this ideal vision, what am I ready to do?”  If you have not taken the steps to get closer to your vision, ask, “Why am I not moving toward my dreams?” If your answers to these questions include reasons why you can’t, haven’t, aren’t able to, or what you can’t give up, this means you have to change the tune in your mind.

There is a song, My Time, from Kindred the Family Soul that says, “I’m rich in love. I’m rich in peace. I’m rich in hope. I’m rich indeed.” Within us, we have the foundation to do, be, and project whatever we want. God has made it so that our wealth is from within us. The thought of that makes me feel so at ease because I’m reminded of how giving God is to us.

One of the characteristics my parents instilled in my brother and me was to always show your appreciation when someone gave you something, by saying, “thank you.” They didn’t mean for us to just mouth the words, but to show sincerity in a genuine manner.

Why can it be so hard to forgive someone? There are times when we get frustrated in thinking about being the bigger person. My concern is for any of us who are really comfortable being on the other side of forgiveness. We are choosing to be mad, harsh, and stubborn. Yes, the hurt can be so deep that we’d rather stay pissed off than being tender-hearted.

Have you ever paused to capture the feeling when a place in your heart heals? Perhaps you’ve smiled after noticing that area of your soul where you’ve grown. Many times, these progressions happen because of our relationships.

God is so patient with us. In the book, A Course in Miracles, there is a quote of the Almighty saying, “If you want to be like me I will help you, knowing that we are alike. If you want to be different, I will wait until you change your mind.” In two sentences, God’s love and patience just blows me away.”

Goodbye Unhappiness

When we are cheerful or at peace, we are more connected to God. So, when we are angry or sad, we are less joined to God. Our frustrated brothers and sisters are unhappy people who sit in the sea of doubt.

What we speak comes into being. In Isaiah 55:11 it says, “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose from which I sent it.  Giving consciousness to words is important.

Whose truth are you living? Such an interesting question.

Take a moment and think about your life. Are you doing what you really want to do? Are you doing what others believe you’re “supposed” to do? Are you doing what God has asked you to do?  Do you always speak your truth to others? For instance, are you honest with people when they ask your opinion? Or do you give them answers that won’t hurt their feelings?

There are those who say life is short.  It can certainly feel that way, especially if you experience some type of loss or other traumatic events. Daydreaming about something that you want can also make you ponder getting to the greatness that is you. Things happen that make us examine our lives and take inventory of what we have and have not yet done.

What does this phrase make you think about? Were your initial thoughts about what you would “cram” into your remaining hours? Does thinking about only having a little time left make you want to do things that you haven’t been able to?  If thinking about this question helps you step into the “present tense” of your life, then keep it constantly in your mind.

There are twenty-four hours in a day. Let’s think about each day in increments of five minutes. Within one hour, we have twelve five-minute slices of time. So during that hour, we are able to repeatedly determine what we want to feel, think and experience at least twelve times. It’s under our control. We can spend five minutes asking what our lessons are.

With everything we do, there is an order. There are steps. Something is first, then second and so on. We often have a routine that we follow on a daily basis. Think about what you do to start your day, when you get to the office, go to the gym or get the kids off to school. Are your driving routes always the same?
