In this episode, we speak to Denise Broady, the CMO of Appian, the leader in low-code application development about her journey from a refugee to the CMO suite and her #lowcode4all initiative.
Denise came to the United States with her mother as a refugee from Vietnam, and through hard work and the support of her family, she graduated from the University of Virginia and entered the consulting world where she was helping companies automate business processes with COBOL code.
After a successful career in enterprise software, including a 15 year stop at SAP, where she was the COO of the Industries and Business Line Group, Denise returned to her roots of business process improvement as the CMO of Appian. But this time, she was armed with the leading low code platform instead of COBOL.
As part of her marketing strategy, Denise launched the #lowcode4all initiative, a program focused on providing access to low-code education and certification to drive career advancement and opportunity for the next generation of low-code developers.
Appian is the only recognized global leader across multiple enterprise technology markets, including low-code application development, digital process automation (DPA), intelligent business process management systems (iBPMS), and dynamic case management (DCM).

Sean's bio below:
Sean is a principal at FitzMartin, and our leading mind and voice on sales and marketing strategy. Sean is particularly adept at applying the science of behavior change to the art of sales and marketing. It’s an approach that he and FitzMartin have developed over thousands of client engagements since 1992.
Sean is an author and speaker. His first book, Shift: 19 practical, business-driven ideas for an executive in charge of marketing but not trained for the task, was published by Rockbench Publishing in 2018.
The bottom line? Sean, for the length of his career, has been helping emerging middle-market clients acquire more and more profitable customers. While the principles he uses work in almost any industry, Sean has particular experience in manufactured goods, professional services, carpet, software, and healthcare equipment. Sean’s core principle applied: “Few companies fail for lack of quality products or services. Most companies fail for a lack of revenue. If nothing gets sold, nothing else really matters.”
Every marketer, when asked for a list of representative clients, will pull out the biggest names in their portfolio. For Sean, it’s Georgia Pacific, the Southeastern Conference (yes the college sports empire), BBVA Compass (one of the largest banks on the globe) among other attention getters.
But the truth is that Sean has spent most of his career helping the kinds of companies that make up most of American business.
“Most of my clients are owners and executives who live with the daily pressures that come when cash flow is unpredictable. They are worried about meeting payroll. They are worried about short-term sales. They are worried about the twin obstacles of regulation and competition. My clients prefer answers to rhetoric. They prefer good enough to the perfect solution at 5x the cost and twice the time to implement.”

The pandemic opened the door for consumers to interact with products and services in an immersive way through technology based off the gaming industry.
Adam Voss, the CMO of Surreal, tells us it’s time for companies to begin to invest in a 3D virtual component to their traditional physical events and spaces. With concepts taken from the gaming industry, marketers can differentiate and show products to customers in virtual environments. Some in person events will return post-pandemic, surely, but companies should be investing in virtual technology to socially engage with your customer and in turn, go from interactions into transactions.
It’s the beginning of a whole new way to engage with customers on the web, just like the early days of mobile marketing or web marketing, and Voss has a lot of thoughts on where immersive, 3D marketing can take marketers and customers.
