Europe has roughly a million local and regional elected office-holders, but only about 30% of them are women. Gender equality is a core value for the European Union, it is crucial to tackle the barriers women face in entering politics and actively engage politicians in this matter. In this podcast, we have a chat with Inês Xavier, Lauda Guidiceli, and Elisenda Alamani, 3 young women elected at the local level and members of the Young Elected Politicians (YEPs) program of the European Committee of the Regions. They share their personal experience, talk about barriers that block women from deciding to seek political decision-making positions or that blocks them when they are in, and how to overcome them.
