The NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat completed on Sunday with the LA Lakers winning the series 4-2. We gave our congratulations to the Lakers and the Heat for finishing off a successful NBA bubble season. We moved to the NFL focusing on the Atlanta Falcons firing of Dan Quinn (Head Coach), Thomas Dimitroff (GM), and Ben Kotwica (Special Teams Coordinator) and Raheem Morris being named the interim head coach. Green Bay Packers and their wide receiver draft misses continued to show up after witnessing Chase Claypool go off for 4 touchdowns on Sunday. The Packers had the opportunity to draft Chase Claypool. We discussed how the current environment may impact Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the future related to facilities, funding, student body and athletics. We spotlighted the move to the SWAC conference by Florida A&M University (FAMU), and the impact that it will have financially for the school. The HBCU facilities were a topic of discussion, and how the lack of funding in the past put the HBCU at an athlete recruiting disadvantage then and now. The HBCU game day experience is definitely a must for fans once the games and fans are able to attend.

In this episode, we discussed the NFL off-season for our favorite teams, the Atlanta Falcons (Danny) and the Green Bay Packers (Jason). The Atlanta Falcons made some off-season acquisitions and draft picks that should improve their team on paper. The Green Bay Packers made moves that were called into question by Jason, in particular not addressing the wide receiver position at all in the off-season. By not addressing the wide receiver position, we felt that may lead to Aaron Rodgers being frustrated and eventually moving on to a new team in the near future. The 2020 Michael Jordan “The Last Dance” Docuseries parts 7 and 8 aired this past week and we provided our reactions to some of the key topics. The 2 episodes were filled with Jordan quotes that illustrated his drive to win and making his team during their second championship run when he returned from baseball appreciate the NBA grind to win it all. During practice, Jordan was highlighted talking to his teammates in a way to inspire them in his eyes. James Jordan’s support for his son Michael Jordan was key to how Jordan led his life post his father’s death, and what may have been the final influence to push Michael to baseball prior to James’ death. The NBA finals between the Seattle Supersonics and the Chicago Bulls was reviewed and Gary Payton was the main topic of discussion. Jordan had the infamous laugh after watching Gary Payton’s interview on the tablet indicating once Gary Payton was assigned to guard Jordan in Game 4, he wore Jordan down. We had a debate if Gary Payton was right by stating if he would have guarded Jordan the whole series, the Sonics may have won.

The 2020 Michael Jordan “The Last Dance” Docuseries parts 5 and 6 aired this past week and we provided our reactions to some of the key topics. Kobe Bryant (RIP) kicked off the show looking back at his experience facing Jordan in the All-Star game as a 19 year old and building his relationship with Jordan from that point on. The 1992 and 1993 finals were presented with Jordan’s motivating factors to dominate including Clyde Drexler from the Portland Trailblazers in 1992 and Dan Majerle from the Phoenix Suns in 1993. There is one Chicago Bull we had not seen in the Docuseries, Craig Hodges. We discussed Craig Hodges and some social activism items he did in the early 1990’s that may have impacted his standing with the Chicago Bulls. In our final segment, we debated our trading card scenario between Draymond Green’s 2012 Panini Rookie Card and Dennis Rodman’s 1988 Fleer Rookie Card. Who would you take?

Jerry Krause’s (former GM of the Chicago Bulls) roster and coaching decisions were a topic of discussion. The media access provided by the 1997-1998 Chicago Bulls team and the individual player conversations was unprecedented. We had a friendly debate regarding who would have won the 1994 and 1995 NBA championships if Michael Jordan was playing during the Houston Rockets run. The 2020 NBA All Star weekend festivities were held in Chicago this past weekend. The topics we discussed were the All-Star game new fourth quarter target score format, Slam Dunk competition controversy and the 3-point contest thrilling final round. The theme of Chicago’s history and individuals associated with Chicago was woven throughout the weekend including Common’s All-Star game introductions, legends interviews and the last Chicago hosted All Star game in 1988. The other storyline was the tribute to Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, the other 7 helicopter crash victims and the late former NBA commissioner David Stern.
The discussion on today’s episode was the Bucks season to date (12/18/19), and the positives and negatives we have observed. We focused in on key Bucks’ players that have made an impact during their 18-game winning streak and who has let them down. The Lakers versus Bucks nationally televised game preview was the next order of business breaking down the matchup and giving our predictions on the outcome of the game. To finish the show, we debated our trading card scenario of Glenn Robinson’s rookie card for Grant Hill’s rookie card and who we would trade for now versus 1994.
