Boone is already deep in the organization and has tried to carry out its philosophy, whatever that might be. Cashman also mentioned that the Yankees believe Boone would be the top name for teams looking for a new manager.
However, Boone will need to hire a few new assistant coaches, as both hitting coaches were let go, Marcus Thames and P.J. Pilittere, and the Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin was also let go.
Cashman also was very transparent with the needs of the team after a season of disappointment. Cashman stressed the need for a starting shortstop, contact bats, and athleticism. These will be the main holes that he will spend trying to fill in this offseason, and he will be allowed to spend the money necessary to fill the gaps.
The New York Yankees 2021 season is officially over after losing 6-2 to the Boston Red Sox in a Wild Card game in Fenway. The Yankees were on a roller coaster ride all season, playing like a true contender one week, then playing like the worst team in the league the next. In a final win or go home game, the Yankees went home with a rough night from ace Gerrit Cole and no real run support. Jose, Ryan, and Brian broke down the key moments in the Wild Card game, as well as their fan reaction to the loss.
We then went into an off-season preview, diving into many possible off-season moves for the Yankees. The biggest questions are mainly focusing on General Manager Brian Cashman and Manager Aaron Boone. It isn't likely for a massive shift to happen in the organization, but there should be at least some. On top of that, the Yankees should have a big off-season, as they won't plan to stay under the luxury tax this year.
This season has been stressful, so it only makes sense to end in a win-or-go-home Wild Card game against the Boston Red Sox. Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over all the crucial details before the game, figuring out how the lineup will look. We also looked at the pitching matchup between Cole and Eovaldi and how a hot start for the Yankees in this game is extremely crucial.
Since the Yankees did make it into the playoffs for the 5trh straight season, we will dive straight into those final stressful six games. Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down every stress-filled game. In the first series against the Blue Jays, the Yankees won two out of three, winning the bookends. The Yankees did at least win the series, but nothing seemed safe all series.
Then they lost the first two games of the series with the Rays to send the final game into a win crunching mess. The Yankees, outside of some stellar pitching performances, did not look good against the Rays. Despite all that, they found a way to win on game 162 1-0 on a walk-off ground out by Aaron Judge.
The Yankees are in the post-season, and that is what matters.
Last week, there was no light at the end of the tunnel. It seemed like the Yankees season was just about over. Somehow, only a week later, the Yankees find themselves on top of the Wild Card race after sweeping the Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox. The pitching and the bats have been hot all week, with Giancarlo Stanton having a historical series in Fenway, hitting 3 HRs with 10 RBIs. The bullpen was pretty much light out this week as well. The Yankees completed three confident boosting comebacks this week that will helpfully carry them through this week, and then the Wild Card game.
After a frustrating episode last week, the Yankees sweep the week and go 6-0 to move into first place of the Wild Card race once again. Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over how frustrating this team has been to root for, as they have constantly gone from being a playoff team to a horrible team. However, a big part of the recent struggles was starting and bullpen pitching. Now that the bullpen has rested and Sevy and German are pitching again, the pitchers look back on track.
Since our last episode, the Yankees seem to be doing worse, not sweeping the Orioles and then getting blown out by the Clevland Indians twice. There will only be a Monday episode this week with Brian taking a day off and the Yankees just being too frustrating this week. We start with Ryan going over all the injuries, with Sevy and German looking to make a come back this week. Joe and Ryan then dive into their frustrations with the team, from upper management to just the play on the field. Unlike most episodes, instead of just diving into every game, we dove into every series. They were looking at the impact as a whole, along with the effect for the future of the Yankees. This week is crucial for the Yankees if they want even to get close to the Wild Card game, and the way they are playing makes it very unlikely.
Yankees go 1-6 in this week's seven games, pretty much erasing the 13 game win streak they just went on. They got swept in a four-game series by the Toronto Blue Jays, who have kicked the Yankees out of the Wild Card. Then they went 1-2 in Queens against the Mets. Nothing is going right for the Yankees as they play without energy while the pitching looks tired. This season has been a horrible roller coaster, and as of now, the Yankees are out of the playoff picture because of this horrific stretch.
The Yankees have played seven games in the last seven days and only won one game. That is not where you want to be closing in on the last few weeks of baseball, now sitting a game outside of the wildcard. Injuries hit the Yankees hard this week, with Cole coming out early, which has affected the whole pitching rotation. The starting pitchers are struggling, the bullpen is tired, the bats can't come alive, and sloppy defensive plays lead to a seven-game losing streak.
After winning 13 straight games, the New York Yankees seem to be sliding back into the old habits that made them .500 in the middle of the season. This episode is a special Labor Day episode in where we combined the Monday and Tuesday episode into one. We start with the usual Yankee Weekly Update, with Ryan going over all the injury updates in the Yankee system. Brian then takes back into the past as we talk about our favorite Jeter moments. Finally, we break down this week's games, as the Yankees go 2-4 against the Angels and Orioles. Andrew Heaney's struggles came up a lot, as he is a big part of two of this week's losses. The Angles series seemed like the pitching was not there to help the bats, but nothing was working with the Orioles. As the Yankees try to secure home-field advantage in the Wild Card Game, they need to start playing a better brand of baseball.
The Yankees keep on winning, as they take the first four games of this week, to reach a 13 game win streak. Sadly that streak in Oakland, as the Yankees split a four-game series with the A's. In the first two games against the Atlanta Braves, the Yankees won, showing how hot they were against another hot team. Game 1 featured two teams with nine game-winning streaks, but the Yankees would still leave on their streak. With a west coast road trip on the way, it was likely that the streak would end there, but the Yankees snuck two wins right at the start of the series, only to lose the last two.
In this week's Yankee Week edition of the Yankee Nation Podcast, Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over all the injury news, with Kluber set to make his return tonight and Torres working his way back. Finding out that the Yankees have a lot of middle-infield and pitching talent, figuring out who will be sent down to make space for players coming back will be very difficult. Judge and Cole have been stables throughout this whole season and have proved to be the backbone of this team. Cole should be in the race to win the AL CY Young, while Judge is putting up some career numbers.
The Yankees are hot, and they have been the hottest team in baseball over the last few weeks. Since the previous episode, the Yankees managed to win against the Angles, outplay the Red Sox, and destroy the Twins. This team has made a complete 180, and Jose, Ryan, and Brain break down every game and all of the highlights. The Red Sox series shifted the Yankees into the leader in the Wild Card running, now in pursuit of the AL East division title.
With the Yankees being it by injures and COVID-19 all season long, it is a sight for sore eyes to start seeing some of these starting players get healthy. Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down all the players coming back from injury, along with all the players who are slowly inching closer to coming back. On top of that, the Yankees now have a 2.5 game lead in the Wild Card and just 4.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Even with all the IL stents, the Yankees have found a way to become the hottest team in baseball. The Yankees have started to play a better brand of baseball, and it has shown up in the win column.
The New York Yankees are hot right now, winning eight of their nine series since the All-Star break, winning the last six. This week the Yankees won both series 2-1 in exciting fashion almost every game, mainly because of the bullpen miscues (check out the Monday episode for more). The series against the Royals was a must-win, as the Yankees have the better team, but the Royals still put up a fight. The Yankees needed to put up runs, and it proved to be practice for the next series against the White Sox's. In heart-wrenching, exciting games, the Yankees found a way to beat the White Sox in the series, in games where no lead was safe and was filled with action. In this series, the Yankees were not expected to win, but their hot streak continued against one of the best teams in the American League. Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down each series game by game, giving their unique takes on performances.
With the Yankees roster being ravaged by injuries and COVID-19, Ryan breaks down all the updates and possible returns for all the players. Many of the players out seem to be pitchers, which has finally affected affecting the players. They are overtaxed, showing up on the field, as the bullpen has blown multiple saves this week. The high leverage bullpen arms are being used every day, forcing pitchers who fans are not ready to step up, which has led to a slide in bullpen production. Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down all the recent struggles of the bullpen and how it could get back on track.
In the seven games that the Yankees played this week, they won five of them and went 8-2 in their last ten games, making them one of the hottest teams in baseball. It seems like the Yankees have found a new team after the trade deadline, stealing bases, playing smart and hard, and above all trying to win every game. After getting blown out by the Orioles in game one, they returned the favor for games two and three. Then against the Mariners, a team with playoff hopes, the Yankees win three out of the four games in comeback fashion. The Yankees are playing like a team that wants to win, which has been missed most of the season.
This season for sure has had its ups and downs, but it seems like since the trade deadline, the Yankees are on the up. In this week's Yankee Week episode, we talk about all the news surrounding the team, mostly injury updates, as well as some COVID-IL news. We break down how the Yankees improved and hit at how good this pitching core could be next season with all this young talent. All these IL stents have given us a look into the future, and it seems bright as of now.
The Yankees are back and in full swing, with a new roster after the trade deadline. With Jose also missing this episode, Ryan and Brian go over the 2-1 series win in the Trop against the Rays and then get a sweep against the Miami Marlins to send up going 5-1 since the last record day. This new team could start to push for a playoff spot in question earlier this season. Even though early in this "new season," the Yankees are putting their best foot forward.
With Jose out for this episode, Ryan and Brian steered the ship in what will be one of the most significant news episodes we have had. The Yankees made many moves at this trade deadline, trading for needs that we have been asking for this whole season. The Yankees add two arms in Clay Hamels, Joely Rodriguez and Andrew Heaney, who aren't the most significant acquisitions, but they will pitch innings. The big moves are for Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo, with Rizzo being a big surprise. The Yankees addressed the need for more lefty bats and hitters to put the ball into play and get on base. The Yankees are ready to make a run, and with this roster, it flips the whole season.
The Yankees start this week with a 2 Game series sweep of the Philadephia Phillies. Sadly that would be the only good news from this week. Both games were close, but it was exciting as the team just seemed to gut out every win. It seemed like the team might have swagger headed to Boston, but sadly that faded. The Yankees went 1-3 against their arch-rivals, with two horrible late-game collapses. Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down every game and some odd managing decisions. This series left a bad taste in your mouth that will hopefully fade soon.
As the trade deadline becomes less than a week away, Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over all the possible moves that the Yankees could make while also looking at the league and who could be sellers. This week of actual baseball, hinting at the Tuesday episode, was a struggle for the Yankees and even though we are sure they are buyers, who much they will buy is the question. In injury news, everyone but Higgy and Judge is back from the COVID IL, which means many young Yankees might be sent back to the minors. We argue over who we rather keep in the majors in a trial run.
The first game after the All-Star break is against the Boston Red Sox, the rivals that we have yet to win a game against this season. After the first game was COVID delayed, the losing streak continued and the "new opening day" of a rubber season only worsened. However, the tide would turn as the Yankees won the last two games, improved to 7-3 in their previous 10 games. Hopefully, this can be the first stepping stone towards this team reaching its potential. Jose and Ryan break down each game, talking about the highs and lows of the 2-1 series victory of the Red Sox's.
With Brian out traveling, Jose and Ryan go over this week's news, and most of it surrounds all the players on the injured list or COVID-19 protocol list. This has led to many call-ups for some Yankees prosp[ects, giving us a look at them in the pinstripes. With other players being moved up within the farm system, Jason Domingez has dominated Yankees Twitter, with his content highlights making Yankee fans very excited. This episode ends with us going over the possible trade targets, as the recent hot streak for the Yankees moved them into an official buying position.
The Yankees won both series week and won them in a similar fashion. Both series started hot, as the Yankees won the first two games but could not finish the sweep, losing the last game. The good thing is that the Seattle Mariners and the Housten Astros are making playoffs push, so beating a quality team is a plus for the Yankees. The series against the Astros was filled with great moments, like Judge taking shots at Jose Altuve for cheating. The best moment was Cole pitching a complete shut-out of his former team, leading to the Yankees win of Game 2.
With day one of the MLB Draft done, the Yankees draft shortstop Trey Sweeney with the 20th overall pick. However, the greater importance of the draft right now is that teams start talking about bog trades, and with the Yankees playing better, they very well could be buyers. Through this week's injury news, Ryan leads Jose and Brian to talk about the possible prospects that can be traded for some MLB-ready players to help the team win this season.
The Angles go 1-2 against the Los Angles Angels, with the final game being postponed due to rain delay. This Series saw the Yankees run out a bad lineup in Game 3, ending with the ANgles scoring seven runs in the 9th inning. The Yankees did play a good Game 2, but the other two bad games overshadowed it. In the Subway series, the Yankees faced the Mets, and on July 4th played a doubleheader, gabbing the last game of the series. However, due to the poor manging of the bullpen, Game 2 was lost with another bad Chapman performance.
Judge, Chapman, and Cole will be the three Yankee players representing our team in next week's All-Star game. Sadly, the Yankees' struggles continue as they lose both of this week's series 1-2 (more of that on tomorrow's episode). With little roster movement, Jose, Ryan. and Brian go over the trade for Tim Locastro, adding speed and a solid defender in the outfield. We once again play General Manager, talking out if the Yankees should be buyers or sellers, as we still have hope for this Yankee season, but it is quickly fading.
A very up-and-down week for Yankee baseball, Jose, Ryan, and Brian break down this week's two series and six games. The first series started slowly with a loss, but the Yankees won the last two to win the series. With an 8-1 victory in Game 3 against the Royals, hope was high going into Boston. Hope quickly faded as the Yankees were swept and lost the final game 9-2. Yankee world has fallen into despair on possibly missing the playoffs and what will happen for the rest of the season leading into the off-season.
Ryan leads us into this week's news, talking about Kluber and Sevy working their way back for a possible August return and O'Day and Wilson looking to come back sooner than later. That is good news as the Yankees Bullpen experience injures, Britton and Peralta being the new names added to the 10-day IL. After the injury update, Jose and Brain continue looking into the minor leagues for someone to spark the roster as the trade deadline approaches, and after being swept by the Red Sox, playoffs become a dream. We speculate with trades and figure out what moves the front office could make to help future Yankee teams.
The Yankees finally show life against an AL East team sweeping the Blue Jays and then winning a three-game series with the A's as a team-first in their division. Of course, the Yankees bats aren't back, but this is the first step in the right direction. Jose, Ryan, and Brian do a deep dive into every game of the series, looking at the pros and cons of the games as we try to figure out the inconstancy of the Yankees.
In this weeklies update, Ryan leads Jose and Brian through this week's injury updates, including Luke Voit coming back and starting and bullpen arms starting to make their way back. Then, we take a quick look at the Yankees' prospects and talk about who might be called up or even used in a trade at the deadline in a win-now situation. Finally, that leads us to the conversation of who the Yankees target in a trade, with a center fielder looking like the position of need.
In a series victory over the Twins, the Yankee's bast finally starts to look alive, putting up runs and getting hits. The only issue is that the taxed bullpen finally starts to show some cracks. The trend of the Yankees cant put it all together continues, as the starting pitching is horrible against the Phillies, leading to a short two-game sweep. At least the Yankees put up some offensive numbers against poor pitching but still just went 2-3 this week, ending on a three-game losing steak.
In this episode of the Yankee Nation Podcast, Jose, Ryan, and Brian start this episode by going over the weekly injury report. Zach Britton is officially back, Luke Voit is beginning his rehab assignment, and sadly Luis Severino suffers a leg injury while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
The episode quickly takes a turn into us trying to figure out what actions the Yankees should take, as Ryan asks the tough questions about this World Series window and the possible moves of this offseason. We have many great thoughts and ideas, including calling up AAA players, trade ideas, and many other potential actions to help this team find its way back to its winning ways next season. We also talk about what we would do if we were in charge of the Yankee organization and what steps we would make.
We finally end on a high note with Brians history lesson.
If you can tell by the title of this episode, this will not be a happy one. Jose, Ryan, and Brian are p[retty much at a loss for words with the Yankees offensive struggled along with the baffling roster moves and bullpen management. A common theme was the Yankees' lack of fire and life, leading to this sweep. On top of that, the odd resting of Giancarlo Stanton only added insult to injury, as the Yankees rested in a sweep against the Detriot Tigers, only to go 2-5 against the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox.
As the Yankees try to get healthy, with Luis Severino and Zach Britton starting their rehab assignments, we ask can they hit. Ryan leads Jose and Brian through this week's Yankees Weekly Update as we look into the Yankees' overall hitting, baserunning, and defensive struggles. Next, we play a quick game of who we would want to fix in the Yankees roster if we had magical powers. Finally, Brian closes it out with a new edition of This Day in Yankee History.
After the last episode and sweeping the Whits Sox, Jose, Ryan, and Brian were in high spirits, but it did not last long. Since then, Kluber and Voit were placed on the IL. Then the Yankees got swept by the worst team in the MLB, the Detriot Tigers. This series was fueled by bonehead decisions by Aaron Boone that made us feel very uncertain about the future of this Yankees team.
Cory Klubers no-hitter was by far the best moment in Yankee baseball this week, but it was not the only great moment with the Yankees sizzling hot. Jose, Ryan, and Brain go over the week in Yankees baseball, covering the recent injuries of Aaron Hicks and the possible return of some pitching arms. We, of course, hit on the high notes of the fantastic starting rotation shutting people down, along with the sweep of the Chicago White Sox's.
PA: This week is a special episode on Tuesday, and we will be switching to Monday release days shortly.
The New York Yankees find their stride despite Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks picking up injuries and Gleyber Torres testing positive for COVID-19. Jose, Ryan, and Brian talk on the Yankees' odd lineups and still pulling off series win after series win, despite injuries and some inconsistent pitching.
The Yankees have been turning it around this season, going 7-2 in the homestand, and won their first game against the Tampa Bay Rays. All signs are point upward, and Jose, Ryan, and Brain are happy with the Yankees' recent play. We went over the series victories of the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals and prepared for the return of Luke Voit and the rest of the series against the Rays.
The Yankees are hot after sweeping the Detroit Tigers, and the best team they could face after that is the Houston Astros. Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over this week's news, including Luke Voit continued to rehab and Cole and Kluber both winning pitching awards, while Chapman was robbed of one. The guys then went into a quick recap of the Tigers series so that they could dive right into the Astros game. We re-hashed all the emotions that led up to the game and praised the fans who attended the game.
With the Yankees winning five of their last eight games, Jose, Ryan, and Brian talk about what that means and how the Yankees have started to play how they should. Ryan also gives over this week's news, including the Mike Tacuhman trade for Wandy Peralta and injury updates on Luke Voit and Zack Britton. We also went over the games over last week highlights our favorite moments, now that there are some moments to pick from.
The Yankees continue to struggle and still need a spark after getting swept in the Bronx by the Tampa Bay Rays. They look ahead and talk about how the Yankees can turn it around before next week's episode.
With Brian back from vacation, the whole gang is back together, just in time to talk about the Yankee's slow start out of the gates. Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over the Yankee's struggles at the plate, along with the surprise highlights of the bullpen. We also go into the new positional battles between Clint Frazier vs. Brett Gardner and Rougned Odor vs. Jay Bruce. The talk goes into a deep look into the Yankee's struggle with the Tampa Bay Rays and the overall lineup contraction.
With Brian on vacation, Jose and Ryan go over this week's news, including Mike Tauchman taking ground balls first and the Yankees trading for Rougned Odor. With only five games under the Yankees belt, Jose and Ryan went into the overreaction by Yankee fans about the hitting with runners in scoring potions against the Blue Jays. With the bats coming alive in the Baltimore Oriels series, we might start to see the Yankees begin to heat up.
YANKEE BASEBALL IS FINALLY HERE!!! With Spring finishing up and Opening Day at Yankee Stadium tomorrow, Jose, Ryan, and Brian discuss the many scares over the weekend, including Luke Voit's injury and what to expect from Jay bruce taking over the starting first base job and Clint Frazier and Aaron Judge's scares. We also talked about the Yankee's season projection by other media organizations like Bleacher Report and ESPN. We finally close it out by going over our own under/overs for the season, and we are very optimistic.
With Spring Training coming to a close and Opening Day eight days away, Jose Rohdin, Ryan Bologna, and Brian O'Donnell look at the possible 26 man roster on opening day. They also cover all the big news coming out of Florida, including Boone saying he will go with a four-person bench and Justin Wilson injury. Brain again continues his segment of teaching Jose and Ryan some of the Yankees' histories, going over Babe Ruth.
With the Yankees on a seven-game winning streak Jose Rohdin, Ryan Bologna, and Brian O'Donnell talk about the news coming out of Spring Training, including new injures and Chapmans new pitch. We also talk about how Gio Urshela playing shortstop affects the team and the rise of Jay Bruce becoming a lock-in for the 26 man roster on opening day. Brian also gives the young guys their first Yankee History lesson.
With Spring training coming into full swing, postal battles start to become more apparent. Jose Rohdin, Ryan Bologna, and Brian O'Donnell talk about the news since last week's episode, Aaron Boone's heart surgery, and Zach Britton's left elbow injury. We talk about the battle to replace Britton in the bullpen, the 5th starting spot, and the backup catcher role. We also go into the hot spring of Jay bruce and Gary Sanchez.
Jose Rohdin, Ryan Bologna, and Brian O'Donnell talk about the Yankees' first three preseason games and look to the rest of the week. We saw a lot of the possible starting pitchers pitch, and the group has their reactions. Mike Tauchman, who has yet to find his role on the team, looks good, and what will the Yankees do with him. They also talked about the possibility of letting Aaron Hicks starting off the season as the leadoff batter, even thought Manger Aaron Boone shot down shows claims.
Jose, Ryan, and Brian go over the most recent Yankee news since last week's episode. The official signings of Brett Grander and Justin Wilson and how those signings fit within the team. We also discussed Luis Severino and how he plans to impact the Yankees World Series goals.
For the first episode of the podcast, Jose, Ryan, and Brian talk about the New York Yankees offseason. They covered the Yankees' three big moves, the resigning of DJ LeMahieu, the signing of Cory Kluber, and trading for Jameson Taillon. The Yankees also had to stay under the salary cap. We discussed what that meant for the team and how that affected most of the Yankees' signings.
In this intro episode of Yankees Nation, a podcast about the New York Yankees brought to you by New York Sports Nation. In the intro episode, Jose Rohdin, Ryan Bologna, and Brian O'Donnell introduced themselves and talked about how they became Yankee fans and their favorite Yankee moments.
