How do you avoid underselling your skills, services, or specialties? You find yourself saying things like “Am I really capable of pulling that off?” or “What if it works? Am I ready to handle what’s next?” or “Will they really pay me that much? Am I actually worth that much?”. This is not uncommon, so you're not alone. Can you steal ideas ethically? Have you ever seen, heard, or read a brilliant idea from someone else? Your mind is blown and you want to share it with your audience. But wait, it’s not your idea. Is that stealing? What if people find out it's not your idea? Should you share that you got it from someone else? Does that decrease your authority as a leader and visionary?
I recently had an epiphany that solved this problem once and for all for me. And it all started with a trip to Atlanta.

In the previous episode, we established that you, me, all of us are heroes on a mission, but what I forgot to tell you is that every hero needs a guide. Heroes are weak characters. They have insecurities, doubts, lack of skills, ignorance, imposter syndrome, trauma, a soft spot, and un-materialized dreams. If the hero is weak then someone needs to be strong, that is the guide of the story. You can’t properly solve someone else’s problem until you are able to address your own problem. We talk about that problem in this episode.

A vision takes time because it’s a forecast for the future, but we live in a world that emphasizes the present. Everything is quick, instant, short-form, and easy to access. Today you are going to hear the vision story of someone I think you can definitely learn a lot from.
I wanted to provide you a real life example of what building your vision can look like. It’s not pretty and it’s not glamorous, but it’s real and it’s doable. Isn’t that what you want? Some stuff that’s actually doable and you can apply tomorrow?
That is why I brought Claude Jennings on the show. I actually work with Claude at a WGTS, a radio in the Washington DC area. Claude is unique because he works multiple jobs, has his own business, and still has a life. And let’s be honest, that is what your life most likely looks like. You can’t just drop everything and build your vision with no distractions. You have bills, you have responsibilities, you have obligations. Is there a way to build your vision despite all of that? There is, and Claude shares with us some ways in this episode through his story.

I brought on the show Chivon John who is a wellness coach and the Global Wellness Specialist for the international e-commerce giant, Shopify.
What is wellness and why does it pertain to you? Wellness is the state of being in good health. More specifically, well-being is the state of being happy, healthy, or prosperous. This pertains to you because, who wouldn’t want to be happy, healthy, and prosperous!? I know I want to be. The truth is, you are better able to build your vision when you are in a state of wellness physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. You cannot properly build while in an unhealthy state. If you try, the experience is longer, harder, and less enjoyable. I don’t want that for you. Building your vision is supposed to be an experience you love even if it’s hard.
The problem is, a lot of us visionaries struggle with wellness and the pursuit of success living in harmony. The great news is you don’t have to pick one or the other. Chivon gives us a quick breakdown of what I call a visionary wellness program in our discussion. I know you want to be happy, healthy, and prosperous so hang around and enjoy the episode.

Opportunity and clarity may be two of the most important words you know as a visionary.
Everyone who is building their vision is looking for that opportunity to be in the right place at the right time, doing the right thing, to make their dream turn into a reality.
But the only way for that to even be a possibility is if you know WHAT you are building and WHY. This is much easier said than done. Most of our lives we operate outside of our subconscious, but most of the answers to our what and why questions reside in our subconscious. Seldom do we ask the right questions to give ourselves the clarity we need to move forward.
This is why I brought John on the show. John Marty is what I call a positive opportunist. He puts himself in a position so that he has the greatest chance of opportunity coming to him. It only works because he has clarity on where he is going and what he wants. We know it works because John did something miraculous with his life. He went from a failed start-up and working for $12 an hour at Best Buy to the senior project manager at the wealthiest company in the world, Amazon. He shares his story and his advice for you to become a positive opportunist with clarity of your vision.

Some of my contextual learning tools:
As a visionary, your life is a constant journey of ups and downs. Well really everyone’s life is a constant journey of ups and downs, but it is especially hard for visionaries because you are always visualizing where you want to be and that place can seem so far away.
Today on the show, Colby Cornell who has been on a powerful journey of his own, going from attempted suicide to the CEO of successful non-profit. He shares with us some of his story and the mental processes he goes through to stay motivated in his journey so that by the end of this episode you can put these practices in motion and energize your vision building journey.

I brought on the show Pierre Quinn, leadership coach, speaker, and author of Leading While Scared: How to find the courage to keep going. He breaks down piece by piece how to overcome your fear of failure in a practical and relatable way.
I remember one time I was at church with my girlfriend and one of the members at the church who knew my girlfriend but not me asked me what I did for a living. I immediately got a little tense, froze for a bit and began to trip up on simple words. It wasn’t because I was unemployed, I had a career, I had income. Why was I fearful? I had a fear of failing her expectations.
Of course as a boyfriend you want to make a good impression on your girlfriend’s circle of influence, you want approval. Would she approve of me being a podcaster, a radio producer, a vision-actualization coach? Does she even know what that stuff means!?
Fear of failure doesn’t always mean being afraid of failing AT something, it could mean the fear of failing somebody or even yourself. Do you have a fear of failure in something? What is it? How do we overcome it? Because one of the most common barriers between you and the vision you are building for your life is FEAR.

Hey guys, this episode is a repost of a great episode from over a year ago. Have you ever had a plan in place to achieve your goals, but were never able to follow through and execute the plan in its totality. I'm sure you have; I know I have. In this episode, I speak with Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand. Dr. Ferdinand, the chair of the music department at Oakwood University, is a decorated conductor, composer, and arranger. He was named the Director of the World in 2017 for his award-winning choir. Although Dr. Ferdinand is a phenomenal musician, that is not exactly what we discuss in this episode. Dr. Ferdinand is a habitual winner, and in order to do that, you need to be great at executing toward your goals. We discuss his planning and execution processes and break down how he sustains his winning mentality. Take a listen!

This week I am reposting an episode from almost a year ago with David Person. I apologize for missing last week’s Five-minute Friday. I have been traveling for the past two weeks and have had limited internet connection. I’m starting to get back into the groove of normal life after taking some time off in Jamaica. In this episode, we are talking about practice. You might be saying to yourself what do you mean practice? I’m not an athlete, I’m not a musician. Doesn’t matter! If you want to be good at anything you need to practice. How are you going to build your vision if you’re not good at what you do? No one will give you the time of day. Now practicing can sometimes be a very hard thing to do. I’m sure you’ve found yourself quite unmotivated at times or simply not knowing how to practice. So to figure out this whole perfecting your craft thing, I sat down with Dr. Wayne Bucknor. He is a professional pianist, music professor, songwriter, and arranger. If you want to figure out how to perfect your craft, stay creatively inspired, and become the best at what you do, you need to listen to this episode.

In this episode, I do something a little different. I revisit episode #12 of the podcast with special guest, Adrian Westney Jr. Adrian is a successful entrepreneur, musician, arranger, and producer. This episode was recorded rather early in the podcast's growth and it didn't reach as many ears as I think it should. There are so many valuable points in this episode and I break down the episode into value-packed clips that deliver immediate information you can use right now. I include some commentary of myself to help guide the narrative as well. This format is different but effective. You don't want to miss the episode!
