Onesimus was a runaway slave who left his master and encountered Jesus through Paul. Often when we are tempted to runaway from difficult circumstances and people we need to return and forgive or make things right; facing the thing we are avoiding in order to be restored.

Our identity can be seen in our qualifications, success, money or status, but ultimately, it is all about surrendering everything to Jesus. Anything we are not called to carry, we are called to drop and follow Him.

All through history God has been faithful, and because of this we know that He will never leave us.
God's love will never let you go, no matter how much pain you have been through, no matter how many times you turn your back to seek other things, the father's love seeks you out and calls you back to his light and grace
Ezekiel writes from exile to a community that is corrupt and divided where the rich have exploited the poor and weak. God promises to send his good shepherd who will bring back His rule and love and care for His people. Jesus said He was the good shepherd who lay His life down for His sheep.
Christians provide for those in need - it is an immediate overwhelming response to those around us. These are the hallmarks of followers of Christ.
Saving Faith is evidenced by: holy living;practical love fot the poor and right speaking. We are called to love God and live in His presence continually praising Him and we are accountable to God through righteos living; the poor. the weak and the wanderer. We should take God's word to heart and graciously bring back the wanderer.
Saul's conversion on the road to Damascus illustrates how God can work in the most unlikely people - and this is still true for us today.
The message of the church is to spread the message of God's kingdom, it is not the task of one individual as Jesus sends out all whom he calls.

We are all called to be witnesses but we are in it together - as the Church and with the Spirit.
Because Jesus has risen from the dead this changes everything: how we react to the world's problems; how we live our lives. We now have hope and freedom from fear and death. This hope is for everyone, especially the marginalised and we should go and tell everyone the Good News

Mission = Good News on the Move. Not that kind of person? Practise mission-minded frienship. Not good enough? Make yourself available & God will make you capable. Too busy? Seize the day.
We are to see our bodies as holy, and treat them as members of Christ. Where we go, He goes with us.
Discipleship is not all about us, we have to open and respond to the nudges of God. The will of God is to do and go not to stop and wait.

We should be cheerful and generous in our giving, for our giving glorifies God and furthers His Kingdom.
At the start of a New Year, we should be looking for ways to bless those around us - this can only come out of the Holiness that God can give us.
Jesus calls and commands us: He calls and cultivates us;Jesus calls the uncallable and Jesus calls us into a community. How is God calling you today? Have you stepped into that calling or are you afraid that past sin prevents ou from doing so? Are you afraid of being in a community because you are vulnerable? God calls you and will equip you for everything you need.

Although we don't know much about their background, the Magi came to tell of the prophecy that was fulfilled through Christ's death and resurrection. There will be conflict and violence in the world but we should read our bibles regularly to know the promises of God and have hope in them.

God chose the shepherds to bring his news of the saviour King at this particular time and place in history. The shepherds have always been important in God's story: from Abraham to David which shows us that the gospel is open to all ranks of people. Their reac tion to this good news was to tell others. Ours should be too.
It can be difficult to wait patiently but the Lord knows and He won't make us wait without a reason.
We are not on a journey to an end but to an arrival and the certainty for this, as a Christian, is based not on what we have done but on Christ.

The Old Testament is an essential part of the Scriptures for the Christian, but we need to understand the different types of literature and the different contexts before we can appreciate its relevance to our lives today.
Although we live in a fallen world and experience sin pain, suffering and pain, we live with a hope that one day all will be better. Jesus came to bring life and healing but he didn't heal everyone and we will only be made whole on the final day. However, he does heal today and we should believe in faith that he will do in this church.

Forgiveness is central to the Christian faith. We need forgiveness from Christ to be saved from the wrath of God andbecause of all that Jesus has done to achieve this forgiveness we should have so much gratitude that we will forgive others. Forgivesness is also for our own good. It frees us and protects our heart against bitterness and resentment.
We have a generous God - in order to be a caring church we need to emulate the generosity of our God

Introduction to new series looking at the landmarks in our christian journey of Conviction, repentance, forgiveness, sanctification and final renewal of our nature until we meet Christ in heaven. It is a a journey where we need perseverance to battle sin, the world and the devil but we have the Holy Spirit to convict and guide us on our way.
