The happiest day of the Jewish calendar, Purim, holds tremendous spiritual potential. The month of Elul holds tremendous spiritual energies and potential, as it is the month of closeness and return to the Divine. The Hebrew word for moment, Rega רֶגַע, contains the three letters Reish, Gimmel, Ayin. These three letters also form the word for Calm, Ragua, רַגֻעַ. Being in the moment, in the Rega, and experiencing the joy of letting go of control to the One Who is truly in control of this moment, leads to being Ragua, calm, and relaxed. The story of Yosef Hatzadik, Joseph the Righteous, in the first Book of the Torah, tells of the years of his relentless struggle in the face of the temptations of his master's wife. The Torah encapsulates this struggle in one word, וימאן - Vayimaein, and he refused. Within the letters of the root of this word, מ א ן, Mem Aleph Nun, Maein, to refuse, and within its cantillation, the Shalsheles, lies a deep meditation and wellspring of strength and perseverance to prevail in times of temptation and struggle. The meditation of the Samech, ס, is the continuation and completion of the meditation and expansion of the Nun, נ. A closed, circular letter, the Samech allows for a balanced and healthy restriction and pulling in of the energy experienced during the expansion of the Nun, thereby integrating it into the mind and soul. In Jewish Torah thought, the physical pleasures of life are a wonderful, positive thing, when elevated and used in the pursuit of the Divine. This is the purpose of reciting a Bracha, a blessing, before eating food, as it allows for the alignment of will and pleasure, and leads to the ultimate Tikkun, perfection, of the food being consumed. In this meditation, the listener is guided through the recital of the blessing over water in deep spiritual meditation, leading to the profound joy of synergy between pleasure and will.
