Thinking about the way words are used in our churches, not just in our preaching, but also in our conversations is vital.
The Bible urges us toward a one-anothering ministry which encourages, exhorts and builds up – speaking the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) is a crucial part of church life. This webinar will consider how encouraging godly conversational ministry helps us to love one another and builds up the body of Christ.

Steve Midgley is the Executive Director of Biblical Counselling UK. He was, until 2022, the Senior Minister of Christ Church Cambridge where he continues to have a part-time role. Steve has taught courses in biblical counselling in a number of theological colleges as a visiting lecturer. Steve is a board member of CCEF and of the Biblical Counseling Coalition. He trained as a psychiatrist before being ordained. He is married to Beth, with three adult children and two grandsons.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and holds postgraduate qualifications in Teaching and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Division of Psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh. He has spoken widely at both church and academic events on mental health and spirituality. Dr Peter Saunders chairs a webinar with Prof John Wyatt
John Wyatt is Emeritus Professor of Neonatal Paediatrics, University College London, a Senior Researcher at the Faraday Institute, Cambridge and President of the UK Christian Medical Fellowship.
He has a clinical background as a paediatrician caring for sick and premature infants and also a medical scientist researching into the prevention of brain injury in newborn babies.
He has always been interested in ethical dilemmas raised by advances in medical technology and has frequently engaged in public and professional consultations and debates from the perspective of the Christian faith.
His book Matters of Life and Death – human dilemmas in the light of the Christian faith has been translated into more than ten languages. His most recent book is Transforming Friendship. He and his wife Celia are longstanding members of All Souls Church in London.

It is a kind of utopian religion with committed believers.
Join us as we discuss the facts - how common is gender dysphoria, what are associated mental health problems, what is the risk of self-harm and suicide, what is the treatment and what is appropriate medical intervention?
Professor John Whitehall is the chair of CMDF Australia and Professor of Paediatrics at Western Sydney University. His 50 year career began at Sydney University, continued through developing countries and western Sydney as a general paediatrician, then focussed on neonatology before coming to WSU.
For 15 years he was Director of Neonatal Intensive Care in Townsville, North Queensland, which included ante-natal diagnosis, resuscitation, management and transportation of premature, dysmorphic and sick neonates, many of whom were Indigenous.
In Townsville, he was deeply involved in the establishment of the medical school at James Cook University and, for 20 years, taught modules of Tropical Paediatrics in the Masters programme in the School of Public Health. In recent years, he has also worked as a consultant physician in PNG, Sri Lanka and Madagascar. Currently, he teaches, leads research and has duties in general paediatrics.

Dr Alex Bolek chairs a webinar with Dr Chris JenkinsThe idea of unanswered prayer being a blessing may seem like a contradiction of terms. We feel we are blessed when our requests are answered, when we receive what we ask for and think we need.
The truth is, however, that there are needs in our lives we don’t know about and a lack of understanding of important truths that God wants to address and the only way to do it is through unanswered prayer. Actually, delayed answer to prayer is more accurate even though at the time it feels like unanswered prayer. Today we will look at one reason why our prayers may be “unanswered.”
Chris has been a Christian for five decades. Before going into family medicine, he worked with a missionary organization starting adult literacy ministries in Africa and Asia in order to help Christians read the Bible for themselves and to also give them a tool to reach their non-Christian illiterate neighbors by teaching them to read while sharing the gospel with them.
He now works in medical education in the US as well as parts of the 10-40 window including the Middle East, Central, South and East Asia and elsewhere. He has been learning spiritual resilience throughout his Christian journey and finds that in every stage of life he must lean harder on the Lord, dig deeper into his Word, and pray for the spiritual resources needed to make it through trials with faith, integrity, love, and obedience intact.

This webinar discusses the challenges facing healthcare professionals and what can be done practically to combat injustices in medicine.
After postgraduate training, Andrew worked in a new medical school in Nigeria, establishing new management regimens and collaborative research on the interaction of infection and nutrition in children. After research training in nutrition at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Andrew worked in the MRC units in Malumfashi, Nigeria and the Gambia. Subsequently his research team established a range of applied research and training projects in resource poor countries, based at the Centre for International Child Health (now the Institute for Global Health) UCL London. Andrew has assisted UNICEF, WHO, the World Bank & national governments in the development of their child health and nutrition programmes. Andrew worked with Tearfund UK and overseas partners to develop church-based programmes for prevention, treatment & care of disease. Hear how medical professionals respond to the challenges of COVID and how we can adjust our practices using technology accordingly.
Dr. Vineeth Jaison is currently working as Associate Professor in Neurology at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, India. He did his undergraduate, post graduate and Neurology training in CMC, Ludhiana. He grew up in a family of missionary doctors and would often visit his maternal uncle Laji Verghese who was Surgeon at Lady Willingdon hospital in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. He spent two years after graduation in a mission hospital at Robertsganj in Uttar Pradesh. Where he took care of Pediatrics and General Medicine while helping his wife Dr. Preethi Paul manage Obs and Gyne. Doing Ultrasounds for Obstetrics was a part of his routine work. He also spent three months managing the eye OPD with over 100 patients a day.
Often during that time he would consult his seniors for difficult cases in the clinic or admitted in the ward. He also observed the immense capacity for well trained nurses to manage repetitive yet high skilled tasks.
During his DM Neurology training he set up a Physician assistant programme for task shifting highly skilled yet repetitive procedures to address the shortage of doctors. He has worked closely with Dr. Jeyaraj Pandian current Vice President of World Stroke Organisation and has developed a keen interest in Public health.
These laid the foundation for him to see the value in telemedicine now as qualified Neurologist.
Recently he along with his colleagues initiated and implemented an institutional telemedicine programme with over 70 consultants and 30 specialties, which has been a blessing for patients during COVID.

Hear the inspiring story of PAACS - an organisation that trains and disciples African surgeons to glorify God and provide excellent care to those most in need.Keir Thelander attended Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, OH, in 2004. After working as a General Surgeon in Cleveland, Keir was led to train and disciple African doctors to become surgeons. Keir’s young family of 4 moved to Bongolo Hospital in Gabon. For 8 years Keir served as the Program Director of the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons (PAACS) surgical residency program as well as the medical director of this 150 bed facility. Recently Dr Thelander has been Team Leader for the over 20 ex-patriots living in Bongolo, while he also worked as the West/Central Africa Director for PAACS. Presently, Keir is the Executive Vice President of PAACS. In this role he oversees their 15 training programs across Africa. Contemporary sociologists argue that the way we see the world is socially created within cultures. “Girls wear pink and boys wear blue,” for example, is not a universal law but something created within twentieth-century Western culture through discourse around what it means to be male and female.
If reality is socially created, then it can be recreated. But is this true of all of reality?
Can gender, religion, morality, and even our own humanness be shaped and reshaped as we choose?
Dr James Paul is director of the English branch of L’Abri Fellowship and before that he practised as a doctor in London, specialising in hospice care for the terminally ill. Many of the questions raised in his recent book What on Earth Is Heaven? are ones that people have asked him in these settings. At the same time many countries with less established health infrastructure are starting to see the remarkable potential of bespoke AI systems. What are the ethical, societal and spiritual issues which lie behind these extraordinary developments and how can Christians prepare for the coming wave of AI innovation and disruption?

How can Christian healthcare workers best find joy in their vocations? Is your life marked by joy? Why is it that most of our neighbours in the western world (including our healthcare colleagues) report being dissatisfied/unhappy? We will look at the underlying causes and the solution.
Dr. Gene Rudd served for 25 years as Senior Vice President of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations – Unite States. He continues to serve as volunteer staff and advisor.
He specialized in obstetrics/gynecology and has experience in teaching, maternal-fetal medicine and rural healthcare. Dr. Rudd garnered several awards including the Gorgas Medal, presented by the U.S. government for the most significant achievement in preventive medicine. He conducted international programs with Samaritan’s Purse/World Medical Mission including the formationof the Christian Medical Mission of Russia and the rehabilitation of the Central Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda during the genocide of 1994. He co-authored Practice by the Book, a book that teaches doctors to practice and live their lives by biblical principles.

In this webinar, Dr Andy Bannister will draw on his 25 years experience of conversations with Muslims to help us understand the common questions Muslims ask, why ask them, and how we can share the gospel through them.
Dr. Andy Bannister is the Director of Solas, an evangelism and training organisation based in Scotland (but covering the whole of the UK). A highly in demand speaker, Andy speaks and teaches throughout the UK, Europe, Canada, the USA, and the wider world. From universities to churches, business forums to TV and radio, he regularly addresses audiences of both Christians and those of all faiths and none on issues relating to faith, culture, politics and society.
Andy holds a PhD in Islamic studies and has taught extensively at universities across Canada, the USA, the UK and further afield on both Islam and philosophy. He is also an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Arthur Jeffery Centre for the Study of Islam at Melbourne School of Theology and is also Adjunct Faculty at Wycliffe College, University of Toronto.

This African lead in global Christianity is only going to increase into the foreseeable future, thus these projections call for preparation in order to produce the quantity and quality of African Christians who will be faithful carriers of the authentic gospel to all nations!
Dr Perbi practised medicine in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire and is an author-publisher, preacher and international speaker. He has authored numerous articles, manuals and about 20 books including the highly-acclaimed Africa to the Rest on which this talk is based. Yaw’s goal is to ‘finish the finishables’ by proclaiming God’s word to ‘all nations’. For four years, he served as pastor of Montreal Chinese Alliance Grace Church, Canada. He also served as president of International Student Ministries Canada for eight years and is the Co-founder for the Pan African International Students (PAIS), which envisions a movement of Christian International Students leaving Africa to other continents as a mission force. Yaw and his wife, Anyele, run Perbi Cubs, an EdTech providing literacy programs to thousands of children. They have seven children.

Reverend Stephen Ko, MD, MA, MPH, MDiv, serves as Senior Pastor of New York Chinese Alliance Church in NYC. Dr. Ko’s healthcare specialties include pediatrics, preventive medicine and public health. He is currently Adjunct Professor at Alliance Theological Seminary.
Previously, he served as a Global Health Professor at Boston University and a Medical Officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He has worked extensively in Africa and Southeast Asia on diseases of epidemic potential, helping low and low-middle income countries implement their national public health programs. Writing at the intersection of faith, medicine, and public health is a particular passion.

Many faith-based health providers intend to follow in the footsteps of Jesus when they reach out to heal. If you look carefully, most of those Jesus healed were people living with chronic disabilities. Yet this population is often neglected by many faith-based health providers.
The World Health Organization sees disability as one of the fastest growing health problems. People are living longer; diabetes is rampant, and children born with disabilities are more likely to live. Families dealing with disability often feel that this is due to a curse or shameful behaviour. This sparks spiritual anxiety and leads to questions.
Karen Rispin is Project Manager, Assistive Technology Catalyst Project with IDEAS and BethanyKids. She is passionate about reaching out with true hope by catalyzing links to resources to facilitate wheelchair services and care for those with disabilities at faith based hospitals. A missionary kid who grew up in Kenya, she has led research teams, published on appropriate assistive technology for low resource areas and serves on international committees. Hear a personal overview of Tony's work in Africa over the last 25 years with his experience in Maxfac across 10 countries, working initially on board Mercy Ships, then with teams on land.
For the last 5 years he has been mainly working alongside mission organisations with an emphasis on one-to-one training, usually in the poorest areas.
Discover the lessons he's learned both surgically and spiritually; what sustainable impact has been achieved on a small scale with a minimal budget; and their experiences of answered prayer.
Dr Giles graduated BDS in Sheffield 1972, FDSRCS in 1976, OMFS Accreditation 1982 and MDSc Thesis in Leeds 1984. He was appointed Consultant in 1984 in Luton. He then volunteered in Madagascar June 1996 with Mercy Ships, then across Africa yearly until ‘retiring’ in 2000, enabling him, with his wife, a nurse, to work across Africa half the year. Since 2007, they have worked alongside and training local surgeons and nursing staff, and their multinational teams try to build their capacity to deliver quality healthcare, aiming for sustainable development in OMFS. Since 2016 they have recruited teams independently of Mercy Ships and have also been developing a WhatsApp ‘telemedicine’ consultation service.

A set of three sacred/secular dichotomies are being presented that have caused schism in our understanding of life and mission including medical mission. These are:
- The Heaven and Earth dichotomy
(the primary dichotomy) - Body and Soul dichotomy
- Sacred and Secular work dichotomy
These in turn have caused many other dichotomies such as evangelism/social action dichotomy, love/sex dichotomy, and ministry/family/work dissociation.
Integration of these dichotomies can make us more motivated and authentic and help Christians gain more control over the seven cultural mountains.
After coming to Christian faith from a Jain background, Dr Vinod Shah's passion is serving God through Medical Mission. He did his M.B.B.S, M.S & M.Ch from Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. He served as Executive Director of the Emmanuel Hospital Association in New Delhi; was the Head of Distance Education at CMC Vellore; and from 2014-2019 was the CEO of ICMDA. Dr Alex Bolek chairs a webinar with Prof Raman BediInfant oral mutilation (IOM) is a traditional practice that is prevalent in many African countries but practised most often in East Africa.
IOM involves extracting an infant's unerupted primary teeth or ‘tooth buds' without anaesthesia. This practice does not have any health benefits.
It is typically motivated by the belief that existing tooth buds, which may resemble worms under the mucosa, may be a cause of childhood diseases, such as diarrhoea and vomiting. Thus, tooth buds are removed to prevent and treat those diseases. In the talk Raman Bedi will describe the procedure and the End IOM campaign.
Raman Bedi was Chief Dental Officer – England from October 2002 to October 2005. He was the founder and director of the Senior Dental Leadership programme from 2007-2021.
In September 2005, he chaired the UK European Union Presidency dental programme. Raman was head of dental public health at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College of London, and Director of the National Centre for Transcultural Oral Health from 1996–2002. From 1998-2008 he was the director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre at the Eastman Dental Institute.
Currently, he is an Emeritus Professor at King’s College London. He holds several international honorary chairs, including an “Extraordinary Professorship” in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa and the University of Pennsylvania.

In December 2023, the WHO announced a committee to develop an official “guideline” on gender transition. Most members are transgender activists, and only half are medical professionals.
Churches and clinicians need to be aware of the highly organized, well-funded Western activism working through the WHO to impose unethical, unbiblical and unscientific sexual norms, and to open new markets for hormones and surgery as “essential” healthcare.
The webinar will discuss the factors driving this dangerous ideological movement, and the strategies employed by its proponents in the international context. Resources will be offered to respond effectively and to protect vulnerable children and adults.
Laura Bryant Hanford grew up as a missionary kid in France and lives with her family in the Washington, DC area, where she consults and writes on a range of US and international family, child protection and religious freedom issues.
Since 2015, when she began serving on her children’s public school sex education committee, her focus has included the dangers posed by gender ideology. Her background is in international human rights, at the US Embassy in Romania as officer in charge of human rights and on Capitol Hill as a Congressional staffer. She was the lead staff researcher and drafter of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. She is a graduate of Princeton University.

Emil Shehadeh was born in Israel and educated mainly in the UK, achieving BSc Hons (Medical Biology), MSc (Biochemistry), MB ChB (Medicine), and a Diploma in Dermatology and MRCGP. It’s no secret that young women all over the world are solicited by ads—via college campus bulletin boards, social media, and online classifieds—offering thousands of dollars for their “donated” eggs, to “help make someone’s dream come true.” Who is this egg “donor” and what is her reality?Kallie started her professional career as a scientist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center utilizing a Master of Science degree in Animal Sciences with an emphasis on Reproductive Physiology and Molecular Biology from Purdue University. While assisting in the investigation of endometriosis and pre-term birth, Kallie simultaneously pursued a degree in nursing with hopes of working with women as a perinatal nurse. After meeting Jennifer at a conference, Kallie became interested in the work of the Center for Bioethics and Culture and started volunteering with the organization. It is obvious that Kallie is passionate about women’s health.
She continues to work as a perinatal nurse and has worked with the CBC since 2018, first as a volunteer writer, then as our staff Research Associate, and now as the Executive Director. In 2021, Kallie co-directed the CBC’s newest documentary, Trans Mission: What’s the Rush to Reassign Gender? Kallie also hosts the popular podcast Venus Rising and is the Program Director for the Paul Ramsey Institute. Her latest film, The Lost Boys: Searching for Manhood, was released earlier this year, as was her new book, co-authored with Jennifer Lahl, The Detransition Diaries(published by Ignatius Press).

John Wyatt is Emeritus Professor of Neonatal Paediatrics, University College London, a Senior Researcher at the Faraday Institute, Cambridge and President of the UK Christian Medical Fellowship.
He has a clinical background as a paediatrician caring for sick and premature infants and also a medical scientist researching into the prevention of brain injury in newborn babies.
He has always been interested in ethical dilemmas raised by advances in medical technology and has frequently engaged in public and professional consultations and debates from the perspective of the Christian faith.
His book Matters of Life and Death – human dilemmas in the light of the Christian faith has been translated into more than ten languages. His most recent book is Transforming Friendship. He and his wife Celia are longstanding members of All Souls Church in London.

Informing Advocacy: Filling Gaps in Data About the Christian Health Landscape
Christian health assets are sometimes overlooked or excluded from programs that strengthen health systems, train health workers, conduct research, and fund services. This is in part because governments, donors, and partners lack quality data about the scope, scale and location of such assets.
The Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium (CHAMC) is a voluntary association of several of the world’s largest Christian networks that aims to improve data on Christian health assets, including hospitals, clinics, community programs, health worker training programs, supply agencies, and the networks and volunteer agencies that support them.
Doug Fountain serves as CCIH Executive Director. Doug brings over 30 years of experience in health services planning, research, and evaluation and over 20 years in the faith-based and international development sectors. He consults on development strategy and policy with bilateral and multilateral partners and global faith actors. He served in Executive Leadership at Medical Teams International, a relief-focused NGO, and with Uganda Christian University, where he lived for over eight years. He helped start the Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium, the Christian Journal for Global Health, and the Faculty of Health Sciences at Uganda Christian University. Doug holds an MPA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Oregon.Carolyn O’Brien is the Program Advisor for CCIH, helping design and monitor programs. Carolyn manages the Christian Health Asset Mapping Consortium, CCIH’s 30×30 Health Systems Initiative, and CCIH’s new consortium on climate resilience. She coordinates USAID-funded projects in reproductive health, vaccine confidence, and drug supply chains. Carolyn served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Albania and has experience studying household air pollution and road safety. In every country which has legalised euthanasia, organ donation following euthanasia has also been legalised eventually. In Canada, organ removal was integrated to the euthanasia practice from the very start.
The utilitarian case for it is overwhelming logical - if it is ethical to allow doctors to end a patient's life to relieve their suffering, then giving that patient the opportunity to save other lives naturally follows.

Emil Shehadeh is a semi-retired family physician born in Galilee and educated mainly in the UK. His parents were Arabic-speaking evangelists. His surrogate parents in the UK were also evangelicals, Dad an ordained Anglican vicar and a lecturer at London Bible College (now LST) in comparative religions, with an interest in Islam.
Emil has always maintained an interest in Islam. He has written numerous books to help equip Christians to reach Muslims for Christ. He has a PhD from Logos University, USA and is currently engaged in research in conversion studies.
Emil believes that evangelising Muslims is a challenge which faces most Christians almost everywhere, and for which we should all be adequately prepared.

Transgenderism, as a legal concept, has dramatically affected Western Culture as few other things have over the last decade. Often, the term is ill defined and conflated with gender identity ideology, leading to an overly broad interpretation which has impacted education, employment law, safe spaces for women, religious freedom, child safeguarding, female athletics, freedom of expression and many other aspects of life.
This talk will focus on the lived experiences of the Christian Legal Centre, which has been at the forefront of challenging the transgender agenda in the United Kingdom before the courts, parliament and at the grass roots level.
Having qualified as a barrister in 1988, Andrea Williams founded Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre, which have run some of the most high-profile Christian interest campaigns and legal cases in Europe.
A prolific media commentator, she has been a frequent presence on major TV channels and radio stations. She is passionate about seeing every area of society transformed by the gospel.
She is married to Gareth and they have four adult children. On overcoming cancer in 2010 she took up marathon running and is working towards completing her 12th race soon.

Since 1998, Dr. Saba has actively worked to improve Quebec and Canada’s publicly funded health care through the Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice, which he co-founded and presides over.
He has successfully fought for free medication for the disadvantaged, nutritional support for the elderly, and physical fitness for children.
He has made presentations opposing assisted suicide and euthanasia before state legislatures in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New York, and before international forums in Rome, Italy; Reykjavik, Iceland; Santiago, Chile; and Tbilisi, Georgia.
Presently he is contesting euthanasia and assisted suicide laws in Canada’s courts.

The books of the New Testament were all written in the first century and have since been copied by countless scribes. The original physical manuscripts written by the apostles have all long perished, so we have to do with copies.
However, as happens when a text is copied, errors can creep in and this has happened with the New Testament, as the footnotes in any modern translation will tell us.
But of course, the reliability of the New Testament is not just questioned because of the reliability of the texts itself, but also because of the events they describe.
In this webinar we will go through some of the debates and the major issues, and we will formulate some take-home arguments that can help us in our own testimony.

Euthanasia and assisted suicide are increasingly being legalised in Western nations. This talk will look at the impact of this prioritisation of autonomy and choice within healthcare, at vulnerable people being placed at risk as a result and how the number of deaths quickly escalates once the law has been changed.
Dr Gordon Macdonald is the Chief Executive of Care Not Killing, a post he has held since April 2019. Prior to that Gordon worked in political advocacy work focusing on the Scottish Parliament. In that role, he chaired the Care Not Killing Scotland committee which led the campaign against two previous Bills which sought to legalise euthanasia and assisted suicide at Holyrood. He has a PhD in political economy and has been active in politics in a personal capacity for a number of years.
Care Not Killing was set up in 2006 as a political campaign by a number of organisations which were concerned by Lord Joffe's attempt to change the law to legalise assisted suicide through his Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill and to campaign for improvements in palliative care.
Gordon has overseen the development of the organisation, including the establishment of the Our Duty of Care campaign, a campaign for health professionals who wish to oppose the legalisation of assisted suicide and euthanasia.

Chemical (or medication) abortion is typically accomplished with mifepristone and misoprostol. It is now the most common method of induced abortion. Although often perceived as safe, it has higher complication rates than surgical abortion, and particular complications are inherent in chemical abortion. Chemical abortion is often touted as a do-it-yourself method, and the pills are easily accessible online.
This talk will review the data on the complications of chemical abortion with mifepristone and misoprostol and discuss the issues inherent with women self-managing their abortions without medical supervision.
Christina A. Cirucci M.D. is a board-certified OB/GYN and long-time member of AAPLOG. She earned a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and worked in the engineering field for seven years before pursuing a medical career. She received her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and completed her OB/GYN residency at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Cirucci then joined a private OB/GYN practice in Pittsburgh, where she worked for twenty years. Dr. Cirucci has volunteered her medical skills in various third-world countries in Africa and Asia and has made multiple trips to volunteer at Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh. Dr. Cirucci has a heart for the life of the unborn and joined the board of AAPLOG in 2021.

Dr Anil Cherian graduated from CMC Vellore, India in 1989. He began his medical career working in a Leprosy hospital and then various Christian mission hospitals. In 1994 he qualified as a Pediatrician, then obtained a Masters of Public Health in Manila, and a Diploma in Health Economics from York. He shifted from Clinical work to Community Health & development then worked as the Mission Coordinator for EMFI training medical, dental and nursing students.
In 2014 Anil and his wife Shalini (Ob-Gyn) moved to Africa to start the ICMDA National Institute of Health Sciences (Jonglei) to train healthcare professionals for South Sudan and worked closely with CMDA South Sudan and CMF Uganda. Anil has been actively involved in other global health initiative including health systems research and has received a number of awards for his work. Shalini and Anil have two sons, Ajay who works as an Architect in the US and Rohan who is undergraduate at the California Baptist University.

Dr Hotlin, a licensed dentist, comes originally from Sumatra. She has four years experience serving in an Indonesian government clinic in a rural part of Sumatra, including two years as the director of a mobile clinic and on-board dentist that traveled via boat in rural Sumatra. She also coordinated medical and dental teams in the wake of the Tsunami in Aceh.
In 2007 she co-founded ASRI (Alam Sehat Lestari), an NGO in West Kalimantan, Indonesia; combines conservation and health care in remote southwest Borneo by giving local people health care incentives to preserve the globally important rainforest.
In 2019 Hotlin started another NGO in North Sumatra, Healthy Planet Indonesia (HePI) to replicate the integrated healthcare-conservation approach. Hotlin’s passion lies at the intersection of human and environmental health.
She believes that, 'not only can we have healthy people and a healthy environment, but the two are fundamentally interlinked.'

Physician burnout has become an issue of international concern. Beginning over a decade ago, researchers began to identify the cardinal characteristics of burnout as depersonalization, emotional exhaustion, and loss of satisfaction in work. Early studies identified physicians as at particular risk of burnout, with half or more US physicians admitting to one or more symptoms of burnout.
The causes of this condition are multifactorial, including work-life imbalance, loss of professional autonomy, and bureaucratic burdens. Essential remedial strategies include personal resilience, institutional commitment to change, and national efforts to address underlying structures and policies.
Ted Hamilton is a family physician and physician executive with AdventHealth, a 52-hospital, faith-based, mission-focused healthcare system. He and his wife, Jackie, celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 2019. They have two daughters and two grandchildren, both of whom are pursuing careers in healthcare.
Ted’s career spans a half century, and includes rural private practice, teaching and directing a family practice residency, serving as medical director/leader for various entities, including a large academic medical group, inpatient, outpatient, and third-party entities. Ted is a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, teacher of Scripture, church leader, and community servant.

Jelena has also worked as a counsellor in Serbia’s schools and a social worker, and she is currently working as therapist in a medical clinic. John Wyatt is Emeritus Professor of Neonatal Paediatrics, University College London, a Senior Researcher at the Faraday Institute, Cambridge and President of the UK Christian Medical Fellowship.
He has a clinical background as a paediatrician caring for sick and premature infants and also a medical scientist researching into the prevention of brain injury in newborn babies.
He has always been interested in ethical dilemmas raised by advances in medical technology and has frequently engaged in public and professional consultations and debates from the perspective of the Christian faith.
His book Matters of Life and Death– human dilemmas in the light of the Christian faith has been translated into more than 10 languages. He and his wife Celia are longstanding members of AllSouls Church in London.

His passions include connecting the Word of God with the struggles of daily life and the practice and promotion of spiritual friendship. A Malaysian residing in Singapore, he is the chaplain of the Singapore Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship. He has read the Lord of the Rings nine times.

The majority of the world’s population now lives in cities. This concentration of people in urban centers will intensify in the years to come. Many cities with populations of one million or more are added to the already long list each year.
Urbanization requires investments in infrastructure, jobs, education and social services. The lack of regional urban planning has led to increasing problems of homelessness, unemployment, pollution, lack of water and sanitation, crime, substance abuse, juvenile delinquency, prostitution, trafficking in persons and other illegal behaviors.
It is a mission field with many challenges. Yet it is in the cities where God’s message of redemption is most needed and where Christians serving with love can make a great impact.
The webinar examines some crucial opportunities for Christian service in this vast mission field, where the Gospel can transform the quality of lives of children, the youth, adults, families, and communities around the globe.
Milton earned his MD from the University of the Philippines and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University. At the 1978 World Congress of the International Congress of Christian Physicians (ICMDA’s predecessor), he met his wife Dr. Raija Ebeling from Helsinki, Finland. They were married in Bangkok, Thailand in 1982 and then served in Thailand, Costa Rica, Cambodia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Senegal, the United States, Eastern Europe, Benin and the Philippines.
Dr. Raija went home to the Lord in September 2022 after a two-year long illness while they were stationed in Manila. Since then, Milton’s involvement with poverty issues has further intensified.
He is currently the President of Yuchengco Center, a think tank on poverty; chairs or sits on the Board of Directors of several civil society organizations; and teaches leadership and development themes in a private university. He also leads a home church once a week.

She has continued her research into spirituality in healthcare at the University of Notre Dame Australia, where she is an Associate Professor at the Institute for Ethics and Society.

Christians stand accused of abusing gay and transgender people. Countries across the West are putting ‘conversion therapy’ bans in place, intended to protect those who call themselves LGBT. But all is not as it seems.
The abusive practices that activists say should be prevented are already outlawed by existing legislation. These new ‘conversion therapy’ bans are much wider. They are set to criminalise the ordinary work of churches – prayer, pastoral care and preaching – as well as Christian parenting.
Any conversations about LGBT issues that are not deemed “affirming” could result in a police investigation. Standing up for our freedom can seem daunting when we are wrongly accused. Simon Calvert explains how to speak out on this vexed issue.
Simon Calvert has been with The Christian Institute since qualifying as a solicitor in 1996 where he has applied his legal training to parliamentary work and to helping Christians discriminated against because of their faith.
Simon advises on the potential impact of legislation, drafts amendments to Bills and assists UK Parliamentarians with speeches. He has a particular interest in free speech and laws that inhibit public preaching of the gospel.
Simon has played a key role in many successful campaigns and speaks to the media as The Christian Institute’s spokesman.

Daniel O’Neill, MD, MTh is a physician-theologian and managing editor of Christian Journal for Global Health, Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and holds a master’s degree in theological studies from Bethel Seminary. He has served on health and development projects among impoverished or displaced populations. He is a co-founder of Health for All Nations and author and co-editor of the book All Creation Groans: Toward a Theology of Disease and Global Health.

He is a visiting professor at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, contributing editor for Themelios, and vice president of The Southgate Fellowship, and a Fellow of The Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics.

Gender dysphoria is a diagnosis, but transgenderism is an ideology. Gender transition procedures (GTPs) imperil already at-risk gender dysphoric youth with experimental and unproven hormonal and surgical gender procedures, which medicalize prematurely and permanently. Transition procedures are not proven effective, not proven safe, do not reduce suicides, and are not the standard of care for gender dysphoria.
Comprehensive literature reviews are driving an international pushback against GTPs in favor of intensive psychological evaluation and support for both the patient and their family, and the lawsuits over the harms of GTPs have begun. GTPs are not evidence-based care for gender dysphoric youth.
André Van Mol, MD is a board-certified family physician in full-time practice in California. He co-chairs both the American College of Pediatricians’ Council on Adolescent Sexuality and the Christian Medical & Dental Associations Sexual & Gender Identity Task Force.
Dr. Van Mol writes and speaks for the US CMDA on issues of bioethical and Christian concern. He works with Alliance Defending Freedom in a coalition of professionals advising on policy matters addressing sexual orientation and gender identity. He advises legislators, government agencies, and legal and advocacy organizations internationally on these issues.
Dr. Van Mol serves on the boards of Bethel Church of Redding and Moral Revolution.

What lessons can we learn from the European church's failure and the beginning of a Gospel resurgence in Europe over the last 20 years?
Greg Pritchard earned his MA from Trinity School of Divinity before continuing on to finish his PhD at Northwestern University. The intersection of theology, history, philosophy and sociology is Greg’s primary focus both in teaching and writing.
He has taught graduate-level courses on apologetics, theology, history, leadership, the New Testament, ethics, and Christian Thought at American, European, and Asian institutions of higher learning.
His book, Willow Creek Seeker Services, has been published in four languages. Currently, Greg serves as the President of the Forum of Christian Leaders and as the Director of the European Leadership Forum. He, his wife, Lori, and their three children reside in Naperville, IL.

Jamilya Sadykova is a well-known and committed tobacco control leader, whose work has led to Kazakhstan’s adoption of life-saving public health measures. She is the founder and charismatic leader of the national coalition For a Smoke-Free Kazakhstan, which advocates for the adoption and implementation of strong tobacco control measures to save lives and improve public health.
Jamilya’s first success was helping Kazakhstan to pass the country’s first smoke-free law in 2009, an achievement that nobody believed was possible.
Dr Jamilya Sadykova is a dedicated and experienced public health advocate who has been supporting the Ministry of Healthcare of Kazakhstan in promoting robust tobacco control measures since 2005.
Currently, she contributes to the advancement of tobacco control work as a member of the Ministry of Healthcare Advisory Board and a member of the working groups organized by WHO, the FCTC Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

These are online distance learning courses for training doctors and other healthcare workers in mental health skills for primary care. They also help with the planning and running of several other courses run by the Distance Education unit at CMC. They love teaching together and designing and developing distance learning experiences.
Dr. Johann Alex Ebenezer did his MBBS from CMC Ludhiana and his MD in Psychiatry from Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. He worked in Padhar Hospital, Madhya Pradesh, from 2014 to 2017, where he started a community mental health project called "Project Shifa" in 75 surrounding villages. Since then, he has been working with the Distance Education Unit at CMC Vellore.
Dr. Praveen Mathew Alexander did his MD in Physiology after his MBBS and he has an MSc in Neuroscience from Australia. He also works at the Distance Education Unit at CMC Vellore. His special interests are in designing and evaluating online and distance courses in medical subjects.

During this webinar he will share insights, mistakes made, and reflections on his experiences.Associate Professor Tan Lai Yong graduated as a medical doctor from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1985. In 1996, he and his family relocated to Yunnan, China, where he was involved in poverty alleviation, community development and training of village health workers. He joined the College of Alice and Peter Tan (CAPT) as a Resident Fellow in 2012 and was the Director for Outreach and Community Engagement from 2012 to 2020. He also taught short courses at the Division of Family Medicine of the YLLSOM (NUS). Dr Tan was given the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award in 2013. As a 3-time recipient of the Residential Colleges Teaching Excellence Award, Dr Tan was given the NUS Residential Colleges Teaching Excellence Award Honour Roll. He is married with 2 grown children. He enjoys the outdoors, has taken part in several Wilderness Medicine trainings courses and has led ten STEER trips to places like Botswana, China, India and Myanmar.

The pandemic gave Integritas the opportunity to branch out into telemedicine. But in the non-virtual world, Rachael spends about a quarter of her life working behind bars in the Philippines and other low- and middle-income countries. Rachael is married to fellow prison doctor Mark who is also the CEO of the UK's CMF. Their greatest joy is their young adult daughter Zoe who spent most of her teenage years hopping in and out of Asian jails. She became the best healthcare assistant a prison doc could wish for!

Spiritual warfare is a reality that all Christians will encounter. However, not all spiritual battles involve open power encounters with forces of darkness. Though these may receive more attention, the more pervasive conflict takes place in our minds. What is the example Paul uses? To gain spiritual victory in this one area would be worth learning the lesson he teaches. But it is just one example of the war we are in and if we recognize and win this battle, we will find greater freedom in our walk and work with God.
Chris has been a Christian for five decades. Before going into family medicine, he worked with a missionary organization starting adult literacy ministries in Africa and Asia in order to help Christians read the Bible for themselves and to also give them a tool to reach their non-Christian illiterate neighbors by teaching them to read while sharing the gospel with them. He now works in medical education in the US as well as parts of the 10-40 window including the Middle East, Central, South and East Asia and elsewhere. He has been learning spiritual resilience throughout his Christian journey and finds that in every stage of life he must lean harder on the Lord, dig deeper into his Word, and pray for the spiritual resources needed to make it through trials with faith, integrity, love, and obedience intact.

Missions is not geographic, but cross-cultural. God is bringing the nations to us so that we can reach out to them where we live and work. They may be more open to the gospel while out of their own cultural setting. Many are never in a Christian’s home while in their new country and are intensely lonely. God put us near them to love them, help them adjust to our culture, and to share our lives, our testimonies and the gospel with them.
Sharon A. (“Shari”) Falkenheimer, M.D., M.P.H., M.A. (Bioethics), PhD is board certified in Aerospace Medicine. She has over 40 years of experience in a variety of roles including teaching, applied research, clinical medicine, medical leadership and planning. She mentors the Albany (NY) Medical College CMDA group and has taught in 30 nations. Dr. Falkenheimer is an international advisory board member of the Christian Journal for Global Health, a member of the American Academy of Bioethics, and a life member of the US Christian Medical & Dental Association.

We all dream about a successful life, but what are success and failure in God´s eyes? What is success for our society? The answer to these questions contains a very important key to living a life according to God´s heart, free from the tyranny of self-ambition.
The world measures success or failure using mainly three parameters: action, visible results, and image (outward appearance). For this reason its emphases are on activism, productivity (getting a lot done) and social status. The core of success lies in quantity and public image. Identity comes from activity.
The biblical view differs radically from the world´s. Its emphasis is not on doing a lot, but on being more holy; it is not on productivity, but on stewardship; it does not look on the outward appearance, but on the heart. Identity does not come from activity, but from belonging, being in Christ.
Dr Pablo Martínez is a psychiatrist and he currently works at a private practice in Barcelona. He develops a wide ministry as lecturer and teacher in many European countries on topics like “Mind and faith”, “The therapeutic value of the Gospel in emotional problems” or “Taking care of yourself”. His books dealing with such issues have been translated into 16 languages. He served the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) as one of its vice presidents.

Over the past twenty years there has been a movement to use mission hospitals to train local physicians in specialised areas such as surgery, pediatrics, orthopaedics, OB/GYN, as well as family practice and other areas. These programs have been successfully graduating individuals who have excelled in their testing and professions.
The programs with rare exception have been small. Their growth has been constrained by limited resources across a broad range of need such as, infrastructure, a well-prepared support staff, dependable supply chains and a financial sustainability model.
The challenge going forward is to address the issues in order to scale-up these programs so there is an opportunity for more Christ following physicians to serve and lead in Christ’s name.

There is obviously nothing wrong with striving for excellence but sometimes that pursuit seduces us into the unhealthy realms of perfectionism. Our culture surrounds us with images of perfect bodies, perfect houses, perfect cars...
We will explore the assets and liabilities of perfectionism, delve into what produces the perfectionist drive, and finally look at ways to work against extreme thoughts and find a healthy balance.
Ultimately it is the understanding and experience of grace that begins to free us from the chains of unhealthy perfectionism.
Dr Winter grew up in England and trained in medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, and then in psychiatry in Bristol. (He is a past member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists in the UK.)
He was also a counsellor, teacher and leader at the English L’Abri and associate pastor of a church in Hampshire for some years before moving to the US in 1992 to head the counselling program at Covenant Seminary where he is now Professor Emeritus.
Dr. Winter’s research interests have been at the interface of psychology, medicine, and theology. He is the author of The Roots of Sorrow: Reflections on Depression and Hope (2001); Still Bored in a Culture of Entertainment: Rediscovering Passion and Wonder (2002); Perfecting Ourselves to Death: The Pursuit of Excellence and the Perils of Perfectionism (2005); and When Life Goes Dark: Finding Hope in the Midst of Depression (2012). He continues practicing therapy privately and with the Global Counseling Network.

**Compassionate care for the whole person is at the heart of palliative care. Walking alongside people and their families facing chronic illness and into the end of their lives is an immense privilege. In many parts of the world this care is not available representing one of the greatest health inequalities. In other situations, economic, cultural and political pressures can undermine values orientated, faith based holistic care. In Jesus we have the ultimate example of compassionate holistic care... how do we reflect his example in how we approach suffering and how we care for those those in pain?
Dr Leng is a specialist palliative care physician and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Glasgow. She is the Head of Palliative Care in Makerere University, Uganda, and Medical Director of Cairdeas International Palliative Care Trust, Scotland.**
Dr Leng trained in internal medicine at Aberdeen University before specialising in Palliative Medicine. She took up a senior consultant and honorary senior lecturer position at Aberdeen University for 10 years and has a particular interest in international palliative care. Since 1998, she has travelled extensively within India and to Eastern Europe and Africa as well.
She left the NHS in 2005 to work full time in international settings where she comes alongside partners in the developing world to build capacity, offer mentorship, support curriculum development and new models of care. She also helps coordinate and is a faculty member of the Developing Health Course for CMF UK.

Professor John Whitehall is the chair of CMDF Australia and Professor of Paediatrics at Western Sydney University. His 50 year career began at Sydney University, continued through developing countries and western Sydney as a general paediatrician, then focussed on neonatology before coming to WSU.
For 15 years he was Director of Neonatal Intensive Care in Townsville, North Queensland, which included ante-natal diagnosis, resuscitation, management and transportation of premature, dysmorphic and sick neonates, many of whom were Indigenous.
In Townsville, he was deeply involved in the establishment of the medical school at James Cook University and, for 20 years, taught modules of Tropical Paediatrics in the Masters programme in the School of Public Health. In recent years, he has also worked as a consultant physician in PNG, Sri Lanka and Madagascar. Currently, he teaches, leads research and has duties in general paediatrics.

The Neo-Darwinian theory of biological evolution, the so-called modern synthesis is still regarded by many as ruling out theism. However, in order to establish this, two things need to be shown to be true:
1) that it is philosophically legitimate to deduce atheism (a worldview) from biology (a natural science), and
2) that there is scientific evidence that the theory of evolution can bear the weight placed upon it.
I think the evidence shows that these claims have insubstantial warrant.

Prof Chris Lavy gives an overview of paediatric orthopaedic surgical needs in sub-Saharan Africa and the key pathologies which fall into the four categories of: congenital, infective, developmental and trauma. The evidence base for the burden of disease will be considered.
The second part of the talk looks at how such a great burden of conditions can be treated and will cover the set up of dedicated training institutions such as COSECSA, and the building of facilities in conjunction with ministries of health and mission health services. We also consider future needs and how clinicians can cooperate globally.

The use of a spiritual assessment by health professionals as part of a social history has been considered a vital part of quality whole-person health care for decades. However, virtually all of the spiritual assessment tools in use today (i.e., GOD, HOPE, FICA, SPIRIT, etc.) fail to inquire about a critical health factor: religious struggle. A developing and robust literature shows religious struggle can predict future morbidity and mortality of various types. How can Christian health professionals inquire about and deal with the surprisingly common religious struggles patients encounter?
Walt Larimore, MD, a family physician, is the co-author of ICMDA’s “The Saline Process,” CMDA US’s “The Saline Solution” and “Grace Prescriptions,” and the inspiration for CMDA US’s new “Faith Prescriptions.”

Rates for deceased donations greatly vary across the world but organ transplantation heavily depends on them and virtually exclusively so for vital organs such as the heart.
But this raises many ethical questions about the nature of death. Can the dead be harmed? Who should give consent for donation when the wishes of the deceased are unclear? Should the 'dead donor rule' be abandoned as some suggest?
These and other questions will be explored from a Christian perspective.
Dr Trevor Stammers is Editor of The New Bioethics journal. He was formerly Associate Professor of Bioethics and Medical Law at St Mary's University, UK, and was a family doctor for 27 years before going into academia. His latest book on the ethics of organ donation (written with Calum MacKellar) is The Ethics of Generating Posthumans.

Daniel O’Neill, MD, MTh is a physician-theologian and managing editor of Christian Journal for Global Health, Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and holds a master’s degree in theological studies from Bethel Seminary.
He has served on health and development projects among impoverished or displaced populations. He is a co-founder of Health for All Nations and author and co-editor of the book All Creation Groans: Toward a Theology of Disease and Global Health.
**Leadership is one of the most challenging areas in Christian Ministry. For hundreds and thousands of years, many types of leadership have been developed, but though some of those leadership styles are good, something important is missing in them, the element of being a servant.
The term 'Servant Leadership' was first coined by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s but even before that, two thousand years ago, the Lord Jesus came as a servant who washed the feet of His followers.
In this talk, we will try to answer the questions:**
- What is servant leadership and how is it developed?
- How do I become a servant leader like my Master, the Lord Jesus?
Brother Alex studied medicine at the University of Oradea in Romania and has a Masters in Public and Tropical Health. He has worked as a GP and Medical Director in Khartoum, Sudan, and also for JHPIEGO and other international NGOs. He is the chairman of the CMDA in South Sudan, is the Africa Coordinator for ICMDA, and is the ICMDA Regional Secretary for East Africa. It promoted a sexual narrative directly opposed to not only Christian teaching, but universal principles that guided most of human civilization.
Yet, most research over the last four decades undermines that narrative, showing the Christian sexual paradigm to be the pathway most conducive to human flourishing.
In this talk, we will examine ten prevailing myths that are fundamental to the contemporary sexual narrative, but are refuted by the best and most current research.
Dr. Steven Willing is an academic neuroscientist with over 40 years of clinical experience in academic and private settings. He is currently a consultant in radiology at Tenwek Hospital in Kenya, a pediatric neuroradiologist for Children’s of Alabama, a visiting scholar with Reasons to Believe, and an Adjunct Professor of Divinity at Regent University.

Ian and his wife, Hanna, have two adult children, Mark and Ruth, and have worked in the NHS until 1987 when they went for 6 years with TearFund to Kisiizi Hospital in Uganda.
He subsequently worked as a Consultant Pediatrician in Macclesfield, UK, during which time he developed Stre@mline, a patient-centered electronic medical record IT system, and served a term as national Senior College Tutor for the Royal College of Pediatrics & Child Health.
They returned to Kisiizi in 2012 as associate volunteers with CMS where they co-ordinate the Friends of Kisiizi internationally, supporting core medical services and the largest community health insurance scheme in Uganda. He further developed Stre@mline winning first prize in the 2022 Swiss Re Foundation Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award and has contributed to the development of the recently launched WHO Quality Toolkit.

John Wyatt is Emeritus Professor of Neonatal Paediatrics, University College London, a Senior Researcher at the Faraday Institute, Cambridge and President of the UK Christian Medical Fellowship. He has a clinical background as a paediatrician caring for sick and premature infants and also a medical scientist researching into the prevention of brain injury in newborn babies.
He has always been interested in ethical dilemmas raised by advances in medical technology and has frequently engaged in public and professional consultations and debates from the perspective of the Christian faith.
His book Matters of Life and Death– human dilemmas in the light of the Christian faith has been translated into more than 10 languages. His most recent book is The Robot Will See You Now, and he has contributed a chapter to a new book Healthy Faith and the Coronavirus Crisis. He and his wife Celia are longstanding members of All Souls Church in London.

Danger, fear, conflict, and abuse have sadly impacted many of us, and are often a painful reality for our patients, family, and friends too. This session introduces how the incredible human brain and body adapts to threat, especially during the sensitive developmental window from before birth to around 26 years of age. We will explore what developmental (psychological) trauma can look like, how stress and trauma can affect our biology, and how to support people living in ‘survival-mode’. As we are all humans caring for other humans, this session aims to help us understand both ourselves and others better.
Laura Wood is a paediatrician with special interest in human trafficking, childhood trauma recovery and health justice. She is the Research Director and Child & Family Lead at VITA, a clinician-led organisation dedicated to advancing the health and public health approach to human trafficking. Dr Rachael Pickering is a British-trained family medicine specialist. Since 2007 she has majored on offender healthcare. When in the UK she locums within English prisons. She is the co-founder of Integritas Healthcare, a NGO with a HEART for detainees – delivering Healthcare, Expertise, Advocacy, Research & Training for & about detainees. The pandemic prompted Integritas to branch out into telemedicine. And since COVID-19 has now calmed down somewhat, she's just got back to spending around a quarter of her life working behind bars in the Philippines and other low- and middle-income countries. The strategy of Healthcare Missions is profoundly effective. But inherent in the practice of healthcare missions is a propensity for overwork, burnout, and moral injury. These factors are among the most frequently reported reasons for an early end of service for healthcare missionaries. The use of God-honoring boundaries has been identified as an essential spiritual discipline in cross-cultural missions. When entire teams mutually support healthy, sustainable boundaries, they tend to enjoy greater unity, emotional and spiritual health, and longevity. In this webinar, we will explore the biblical support for practicing boundaries, and will describe practical examples of boundaries which healthcare missionaries have successfully employed. Dr Jim Ritchie is an emergency physician. He served 25 years in the US Navy, including seven years as a residency program director and two deployments to Afghanistan. He then served for six years as a medical missionary in Chogoria, Kenya, and helped start a family medicine residency there. Throughout his experience in combat medicine and missions medicine, Jim has engaged the problems of moral injury and burnout, and enjoys teaching the importance of boundaries. We can compare our life to a swimming pool where the water is our energy. Two streams of water need to occur at the same time: output, that is water coming out (our physical, emotional and spiritual energy); but also input, the water coming in, which is our personal renewal and refreshment.
Whenever there is more output than input, the pool gets empty little by little, causing emotional and spiritual dryness, eventually leading to burn out.
As Christian doctors we should remember that a full life is not the same as a fruitful life and that God created us as human beings, not human doings. The purpose of this webinar is not making you work less, but helping you rest and renew yourself better.

Resilience, the ability to spring back after being under pressure, is an important quality everyone needs for the trials of life. This is especially true of those serving in other cultures when the familiar supports of life are not available.
Components of resilience include a solid devotional life, taking care of yourself physically and mentally, accountability and prayer partners, fellowship groups and church as well as organizations that understand their role in helping missionaries endure the difficulties of cross-cultural life and ministry.
But what do you do when the crisis strikes? When faith is weak, when thoughts are racing and sleep escapes you in spite of the external structures you have in place, how do you find the inner strength to see you safely and successfully through the trial?
We will quickly cover the external resources important to making it through trials but focus primarily on the personal, inner resilience building truths that God has given us in His word to see us through whatever trials we may experience in this life.
Chris has been a Christian for five decades. Before going into family medicine, he worked with a missionary organization starting adult literacy ministries in Africa and Asia in order to help Christians read the Bible for themselves and to also give them a tool to reach their non-Christian illiterate neighbors by teaching them to read while sharing the gospel with them. He now works in medical education in the US as well as parts of the 10-40 window including the Middle East, Central, South and East Asia and elsewhere. He has been learning spiritual resilience throughout his Christian journey and finds that in every stage of life he must lean harder on the Lord, dig deeper into his Word, and pray for the spiritual resources needed to make it through trials with faith, integrity, love, and obedience intact.

Consciousness is a slippery thing and hard to define. We are not talking about medical ‘levels of consciousness’ but the actual phenomenon of what it is to be a conscious person.
Descartes famously proposed a dualism where the mind is a distinct ‘substance’ from the body, even if intimately interacting with it. Indeed, since Descartes philosophers have struggled to explain how something purely physical could have free-will, emotions, sensations and personhood.
This webinar hopes to discuss what this means for Christian clinicians who know that we, and our patients, are more than just bodies but are also souls.
Dr Antony Latham
Dr Antony is a retired GP, originally from Dublin, now living on the Isle of Harris in Scotland. He has worked in Kenya and then, with his family, as a missionary in Tanzania prior to general practice in the Western Isles of Scotland. He has had an interest in philosophy of mind and consciousness for many years and wrote a book on this subject: ‘The Enigma of Consciousness. Reclaiming the Soul’. He has an MA in Bioethics and Medical Law and chairs the Scottish Council on Human Bioethics.
The idea that medicine is an art runs from the thought of Aristotle through the Hippocratic Oath into modern times. But there is much confusion over what the art of healthcare is and how it relates to scientific knowledge.
This is more than a theoretical issue – it makes a real difference to how we think of our patients, our relationships with them, the nature of health and the shape of excellent care.
This webinar will consider some deficient understandings of the art of healthcare and will propose an integrative understanding that is thoroughly evidence based but more than merely scientific.

He then examines the physical health consequences of a devout religious faith, examining health outcomes such as immune and endocrine functions, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke, cognitive decline with aging, risk of cancer, and overall mortality. Dr Koenig completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University, his medical school training at the University of California at San Francisco, and his geriatric medicine, psychiatry, and biostatistics training at Duke University.
He is board certified in general psychiatry, and formerly boarded in family medicine, geriatric medicine, and geriatric psychiatry. He is on the faculty at Duke University Medical Center as Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Professor of Medicine and is the Director at the Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health.
He has over 570 scientific peer-reviewed academic publications, nearly 100 book chapters, and over 55 books in print or preparation; and is co-leader of the team training all US Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard chaplains on “Spiritual Readiness” for combat operations by US service members.

Mitochondrial replacement techniques were legalised in the UK in 2015 and more recently in Australia in March 2022, ostensibly as a way to enable mothers with affected mitochondria to have genetically related children without fear of passing onto them the risk of severe mitochondrial diseases.
The webinar will explain these techniques, explore the controversies surrounding their legalisation and use and critique the capture of language in promoting them to the public.
It will raise questions about why they might be being promoted and whether they really work. Finally, we consider if they are ethical and explore some scriptural reflections on their use.

What will it mean for society if science enables us to choose a future child whose health, athletic ability or intelligence is predetermined? This future is becoming ever more likely with the latest developments in human reproduction.
New procedures, making possible heritable genome modifications open the door to ‘sanitized’ selective eugenics; but these practices have some unnerving similarities to the discredited eugenic programmes of early twentieth-century regimes. A Christian perspective is urgently needed to evaluate both current and future selection practices.
After completing his Diplome d'Ingénieure in bio-organic chemistry with the European High Institute of Chemistry, now part of the University of Strasbourg, in France, Dr MacKellar obtained his doctorate in Biochemistry with the University of Stuttgart in Germany. He worked with the University of Edinburgh as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then in Glasgow industry synthesising new kinds of DNA to be used as possible drugs against disorders such as AIDS. He taught biological chemistry & bioethics at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, before returning to Strasbourg to work with the Bioethics Division of the Council of Europe.
Since 2003 he has been the Director of Research of a Scottish bioethics charity and a Visiting Lecturer & Professor in bioethics at St Mary’s University, London. He is a member of the United Free Church of Scotland and is the author of The Ethics of the New Eugenics (2014) and Christianity and the New Eugenics (2020).

It has become clear to Gábor that in the 21st century the frontiers of evangelization are at workplaces and recreational activities.

Flourishing as a concept has Aristotelian and other ancient transcultural roots, has been informed and enhanced by Judeo-Christian theology, has been increasingly adopted in many modern secular professional disciplines, and can be observed to be a consistent universal goal throughout human history.
This podcast proposes that the preservation and rediscovery of this principle as a common good is a reflection of God’s intentions for creation, redemption and consummation. Healing serves as the divinely-directed process by which flourishing is obtained.
Moving beyond popular Aristotelian concepts of eudaimonia, healing serves as a goal (telios) of the people of God who pursue the Source of flourishing in the supremacy of Christ.
Daniel O’Neill, MD, MTh is a physician-theologian and managing editor of Christian Journal for Global Health, Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and holds a master’s degree in theological studies from Bethel Seminary.

He conducted international programs with Samaritan’s Purse and CMDA including the formation of the Christian Medical Mission of Russia and the rehabilitation of the Central Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda during the genocide of 1994. He co-authored Practice by the Book, a book that teaches doctors to practice and live their lives by biblical principles.

Mike Chupp graduated with a pre-med degree from Taylor University in 1984, and then received his medical degree from Indiana University in 1988. He completed a general surgery residency at Methodist Hospital in 1993, was board certified in 1995, and joined Southwestern Medical Clinic, a group dedicated to global healthcare missions.
From 1996 to 2016 he served at Tenwek Hospital Kenya including 19 years as medical director. Tenwek grew during Mike’s tenure to a clinical staff of over 80 physicians and clinical officers and more than 700 total staff.
Mike returned to Bristol, Tennessee in 2016 to assume the role of CMDA Executive Vice President and in September 2019 took over from David Stevens as CEO of CMDA US. He is also a member of the ICMDA board. Mike is married to Pam and they have four children - Steven, Melody, Kayla and Ashley.

He has taken part in numerous debates, including with the former CEO of the UK's leading private abortion provider. He has published on a wide range of topics in peer-reviewed journals and won prizes from the University of Oxford and the Royal College of Psychiatrists for his work on medical ethics.

Some claim that elective abortion legalization is necessary for reduction of maternal mortality. Is that claim actually supported by evidence?
This episode raises questions about terminology and methodology used to coerce global abortion legalization. The discussion will explore the interwoven network of development funding with changing abortion policies and the top-down neocolonialization fostered by such strings tied to development funding. The effects on women from abortion legalization will also be explored as well as suggestions for future research.
Dr Harrison is a physician, board-certified in OB/GYN. She completed an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry at Michigan State University and an MD from University of Michigan.
She is the CEO of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, AAPLOG, the largest nonsectarian pro-life physician organization in the world.
She is an Adjunct Professor at Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL, teaching post graduate seminars at the annual Center for Bio Ethics and Human Dignity summer workshops. She is Associate Editor of the peer reviewed medical journal Issues in Law and Medicine.

The Bible and the Lord Jesus Himself have predicted and spoken of turbulent times in world history. Passages such as “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:7) and “There will be terrible times in the last days” (2 Timothy 3:1) are a few clear examples. We are living in these times.
