So Far...
Abram was CALLED TO the UNKNOWN
Joshua was CALLED TO the IMPOSSIBLE
Today, Daniel will be CALLED TO CONSISTENCY
Background
Daniel was taken to Babylon as a teenager
With his three friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego (aka - Rack, Shaq and Benny)
While there, the four Hebrew boys are promoted to various levels of leadership
Daniel remains in leadership under the new Medo-Persian rule of Darius
What we’ll see
God's Call on Daniel
Governor's Plan
Daniel's Obedience
A King's Promise
God’s Call
Daniel was esteemed not simply because he had gifts and talents.
Those gifts and talents were accentuated by his FAITHFULNESS to God!
In the midst of exile and hardship, Daniel was called to CONSISTENCY in his faith.
Governors’ Plan
We have talked about God's plan
Rest assured, the world has a plan, as well!
Governors tried to use Daniel's strength – his faith in the Lord – as a snare.
They had a law passed that made expressions of "unaccepted" faith wrong.
Violations carried with it heavy punishment.
Daniel’s Obedience
He didn't cower in fear.
He didn't hide his faith.
He did "as was his custom since early days"
There was a problem.
He took it to the Lord
Our Example
We need to take a minute and look at that.
Daniel could have:
Hidden
Petitioned Darius
Resorted to politics
He didn't. First stop – God's Throne
That needs to be our "go-to" response.
A King’s Promise
Darius knew Daniel and knew of his faithfulness to God.
The king KNEW Daniel's God could save him..."Your God, Whom you continually serve, He will save you."
That didn't stop him from worrying (verses 18-19)
Nor did it prevent doubt "has your God...been able to deliver you?"
We do that a lot!
We know God CAN...
We just doubt if God WILL!
That doubt freezes us in our tracks.
And prevents rest, consistency, and steps of faith.
Conditions -
Effective – Energetic
Fervent – Passionate
Righteous – in proper standing before God.
That was Daniel
Energetic, Passionate – Wouldn't you be energetic and passionate if YOU were asking God to save you from lions?
Righteous - "...because I was found innocent before Him..."
Result
God gets the Glory!
Daniel remained consistent through adversity
God delivered him
God receives the glory through it all!
2-fold purpose of the Christian Life
GLORIFY GOD
LET OTHERS SEE IT!
For us
How do we know if there is consistency in our lives?
Remove Sunday morning from our schedule
"Does my life look any different than that of my unbelieving friends, co-workers, classmates?"
My words, actions, attitudes?
"What do I do first when confronted with Crisis/Hardship?"
Signposts for us
Inviting friends, neighbors, co-workers to church
Go to God with prayers and supplications
Stopping crude/profane talk at lunch
Standing up for the Lord in the face of ridicule
Personal study/devotional time in the Morning/Evening
God Calls Us to a CONSISTENT WALK
How consistent is yours?

Last Week
Guess What?
This Week, Joshua is called to do the IMPOSSIBLE
Background
Up next - Jericho
God’s Call
Walls, walls, and more walls!
God’s Plan
God’s Plan
In Summary – a week-long parade around Jericho
We laugh in hindsight,
But do the same thing today.
“Go invite your neighbor to church”
“Go forgive that person that wronged you”
“Sign up to volunteer…”
For us –
Those things are just as impossible as Jericho seemed.
We’d rather face the walls than the “impossible” in our lives.
God’s Promise
Despite the impossible odds, God still has a plan for victory!
Same is true with us
Joshua’s Obedience
When we trust God
God does the impossible.
1 Cor. 2:9-10
But as it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit…
God is calling YOU
He’s calling you to let Him do the IMPOSSIBLE through you –
To Forgive
To Let Go
To Serve
To Speak up!
What Will You Do?

Don’t walk as you once did!
Characteristics of the World
Christ compels us to be different
Don’t talk about it be about. Being different is an action
Ephesians 4:17-32 ESV17 Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. 18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 19 They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 But that is not the way you learned Christ!— 21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. 25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. 29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

On Sunday, May 17th (2020), Pastor Fred continued to preach through the Book of Ephesians, as we dissected the first part of Chapter 2.
Here, we see that our relationship with God and to salvation is one where we bring absolutely nothing of worth to the table, yet, after we are saved, we tend to forget that.
It's only by His grace that we are saved -- not by works, and not of ourselves.

Because of Christ's death and resurrection, we can be assured of the following:
1) We are not condemned
2) Our sin debt has been paid
3) We have an advocate with God
And perhaps most importantly, if you are a believer, you can be assured that your suffering is not as a punishment for your sin, as that price has already been paid once and for all.
