Reverse The Relapse is for women who have had a Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve or a Lapband in the past, who are now seeking support, strategies and tools to avoid self sabotage and weight re-gain after weight loss surgery. Georgie is a Psychologist who works in a WLS clinic and will be having a conversation that no one has had with you about what happens after the honeymoon period ends.
In this episode, we explore the complex relationship between our inner child, adult self, and how they influence our eating behaviors. We delve into the psychological concept that we are a sum of many parts, each playing a distinct role in how we navigate life, emotions, and food.
The Concept of Multiple Parts * Healthy Adult (Version 2): Represents our best self, living in the present moment, feeling empowered, connected, and calm. This part makes choices that support long-term well-being. * Wounded Child Parts: These parts are stuck in the past, holding unprocessed trauma. They can feel unsafe and overwhelmed, even if the original events happened decades ago.
Trauma and Its Impact * Big T Trauma: Major traumatic events such as accidents or abuse. * Little t Trauma: More subtle but repeated experiences like emotional neglect, critical parenting, or bullying. These experiences can significantly influence eating habits.
Recognizing Who's in Charge * When the Healthy Adult is in charge, thoughts are flexible and realistic, with a focus on progress over perfection. * When a Wounded Child Part is in charge, thoughts become rigid and all-or-nothing, leading to behaviors like binge eating or numbing out with food.
Eating Saboteurs Eating saboteurs act as protectors for our wounded child parts. Understanding these can help in shifting behaviors.
Key Takeaways * It is normal for wounded child parts to take over at times. * Becoming aware of which part is driving behavior is the first step to change. * Re-parenting the wounded child involves recognizing, validating, and soothing these parts. * Shifting back to the healthy adult allows for more consistent, balanced behaviors.
By tuning into which part is in charge, we can better manage our relationship with food and emotions. Through this process, we move away from blaming ourselves and towards understanding and compassion.

â How a dysregulated nervous system impacts your metabolism, digestion, and cravings

If youâve been struggling with weight regain, emotional eating, or feeling like your body is working against you, this episode will help you understand whatâs really going onâand what you can do about it.
Key Takeaways â Survival mode is when your nervous system is stuck bouncing between stress ("fight or flight") and exhaustion ("freeze").

In todayâs episode, weâre exploring the difference between numbing out and true relaxation. Have you ever found yourself mindlessly snacking while scrolling your phone or zoning out in front of the TV after a long day? It might feel like relaxation, but often, itâs something elseânumbing out.
Weâll break down:
â Why we turn to food, screens, or distractions to numb out
â How stress and overwhelm affect the nervous system
â The difference between numbing behaviors and real relaxation
â Practical steps to shift from numbing out to true rest and recharge
By the end of this episode, youâll have tools to create genuine relaxation habits that leave you feeling refreshed, rather than disconnected.
Key Takeaways â Numbing out happens when your nervous system is stuck in "freeze mode," causing you to disconnect rather than truly relax.
â True relaxation happens when youâre present in the moment, engaged with your body, and allowing your nervous system to reset.
â To shift from numbing to relaxation, practice small habits like mindful eating, breathwork, gentle movement, and setting boundaries with screens.

Show Notes: Season 3, Episode 2 â The Stress-Cravings Connection
Title: Mastering Your Nervous System for Reduced Cravings
Welcome back to Reverse the Rebound Weight Gain! Iâm your host, Georgie, and in todayâs episode, weâre exploring the powerful connection between your stress levels, nervous system, and food cravings.
Episode Highlights: * Why Stress Fuels Cravings: + Your autonomic nervous system controls unconscious processes like digestion, metabolism, and hormone balanceâkey factors in weight management. + The two main systems at play: - Sympathetic Nervous System: Your 'fight or flight' mode, which activates during stress and can lead to cravings for comfort foods and poor digestion. - Parasympathetic Nervous System: Your 'rest and digest' mode, which supports calmness, digestion, and balanced eating habits. * What Happens When Your Nervous System is Out of Balance: + Stress overload can cause: - Poor digestion - Disrupted sleep - Heightened cravings for high-calorie foods + Missed activation of the parasympathetic system during meals or bedtime disrupts your bodyâs ability to process food and relax properly. * The Goal: + Achieve a healthy flow between your nervous systemsâactivating each at the right time for tasks like exercising, working, relaxing, or eating.
Practical Tips: How to Balance Your Nervous System 1. Map Your Stress Patterns: * Notice when your stress levels peak (e.g., during work or in the evenings). Identifying these patterns helps you understand when your sympathetic system is dominating. 2. Breathe to Shift States: * Use deep breathing to activate your parasympathetic system. Try this: + Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, and exhale for 6. + Do this before meals or bedtime to help calm your body. 3. Create a Relaxing Meal Environment: * Eat in a calm, distraction-free space to engage your 'rest and digest' mode. Avoid eating in front of the TV or while scrolling your phone. 4. Use Movement Wisely: * While exercise activates the sympathetic system, incorporate gentle movement like yoga or stretching before bed to transition into a relaxed state for digestion and sleep.

Show Notes: Season 3, Episode 1 â Reverse the Rebound Weight Gain
Title: Healing Your Relationship with Food - Post-Bariatric Weight Regain & GLP-1 Medications.
Welcome back to Reverse the Rebound Weight Gain! Season 3 is here, and Iâm thrilled to dive into some exciting new themes, personal updates, and practical tips to help you on your journey to food freedom and lasting health.
Episode Highlights: * Life Update: + My son Harvey just finished Year 3, and my youngest graduated from Kindy. Itâs been a juggling act managing work, my two boys, and my little oneâs special needs, which include weekly speech and OT sessions. + Big news: Weâre moving to Tasmania! My husbandâs family is there, and weâre seeking a simpler, more peaceful life, especially as my youngest starts school next year. This move feels like a gift for our nervous systemsâa chance to truly settle and find peace. + My recent 3 Capes walk in Tassie was an incredible reset, and Iâm eager to bring that sense of calm into our new life and work. * Evolving Work: + My practice has grown to focus on the intersection of food cravings, nervous system regulation, and trauma. Itâs a transformative area thatâs delivering incredible results for my clients. + Case studies from my 3-month intensive program show: - 60â90% more natural control over cravings. - Significant improvements in mental health. - Weight loss (2â12 kg) as a byproduct of healingânot deprivation. * What to Expect in Season 3: + Deep dives into the nervous system and its role in food cravings. + Understanding how trauma and disordered eating patterns shape your relationship with food. + Exploring solutions beyond external tools like surgery, weight loss medications, or dieting. * Free Resources: + Grab my new Ebook on food cravings and emotional eatingâitâs packed with insights and practical tools. [Link in show notes!] + Check out my case study training to learn more about the results my clients are achieving.
Key Takeaways from the Episode: 1. Disordered Eating is a Mental Health Issue: * Itâs not about willpower; itâs about subconscious patterns rooted in safety and survival. * Surgery and medications can be great tools, but they donât heal the deeper issues. 2. Dieting Doesnât Work Long-Term: * Dieting often leads to more weight gain over time. Instead, focus on rewiring your brain for natural control around food. 3. Morning Matters: * A structured, high-protein breakfast sets the tone for your day. Consistency between weekdays and weekends can make a huge difference in avoiding all-or-nothing thinking. 4. Your Eating Patterns Are Tied to Childhood: * Even if your childhood was great or you didnât struggle with weight then, unresolved trauma or emotional triggers can drive mindless eating patterns today.
Practical Tip of the Episode: Start your day with a high-protein, balanced breakfast. It stabilizes blood sugar, reduces cravings, and sets you up for success throughout the day.

I truly appreciate you x
Let me share the hack, but itâs probably not what you think. Itâs not about control itâs not about food itself but itâs more about shifting your identity towards V2.0, itâs not what youâre doing itâs more about the person you are BE-ING.
It's something that I have personally been working on, and that's gratitude and appreciation.
In this episode I share 3 simple hacks that I recommend trying out and let me know how you go!
If you want more strategies, next month in the Club we are working on the distractor saboteur. This is the part of us that is overly focussed on everyone else needs. Come out as people pleasing or even control - controlling your food, exercise, household or others.
Itâs where your energy is directed externally - and nothing is directed internally. This leads us to get our needs met from food.
If you are not priortising yourself - I invite to join the club before Oct 1st and come and work on this eating saboteur together. The club is a lot less that what you are spending on your go to foods over a 6 month period.
Click to get the discounted price!
I've seen a theme of WLS patient's not priortising themselves after surgery.Â
This might be staying up too late and not getting enough sleep, not doing all the things they know will help them such as meal planning, prepping. Or continuing with their V1.0 old eating habits. Â
They're caught up in a rut. Making easy and fast eating choices.
They maybe eating their way through the day or night.
Weight regain sneaks up and up, and this negatively affects our mental health negatively.
If this resonates, listen to my 3 steps on where to start.Â
I do have an opportunity for women to priortise themselves and priortise their WLS journey. The WLS journey isnât a side gig - itâs the main gig.
Bariatric Dietitian Margaret Hays and myself have a Luxe Bariatric Retreat in August 2024. There is plenty of time to book and save.Â
It will be a combination of learning new skills and new tools on your WLS journey as well as rest and rejuvenation.Â
We all have an Inner Mean Girl. Itâs the part of us that is judgemental, critical harsh.Â
Nothing is every good enough.
She might come out when you see your reflection in the mirror.Â
Or when you are getting dressed each morning.Â
Or maybe comes out in a work meeting or a parenting moment, or maybe she comes out after you eat half the block of chocolate.Â
She might tell you - youâre a failure, you're not good enough, youâre undeserving.Â
And then can you guess what might happen next -Â you eat.
If you have a strong Inner Mean Girl that you want to soften, I invite you to a $7 trial (2 weeks) where we will do a deep dive on your Inner Mean Girl.Â
Grab Your $7 Trial Here.Â
Have you noticed EVERYONE is talking about weight loss medications?
This prompted Bariatric Dietitian Margaret Hays and myself to unpack this and provide some food for thought (pardon the pun).Â
In this episode we unpack what you might wish to consider before meds and if you are currently on weight loss meds, what you might consider as you come off them.

So many women tell themselves the narrative that they are relaxing and eatingâŚmaybe the whole day has been about everyone else.
Then it;s night time, the tv on and the chocolate or chips come out.
You tell yourself youâre relaxing but you are really numbing out.
The main difference is that relaxation is when our awareness is in our body.
When you are truly relaxed, you are often you arenât thinking about food at all.Â
Numbing out is quite different. Our awareness is in our head. Disconnecting, unplugging, not thinking not feelingâŚfood goes hand in hand with their saboteur.Â
The numbing Part that disconnects.
It doesnât want to feel or thinkâŚdo anything to feel nothing.
If this resonates, we have a FLASH SALE for 48 hours only to work on this Numbing Saboteur together in the Reverse the Relapse Club. This is such an affordable way to do this powerful work.Â
Check it out here > https://georgiebeames.clickfunnels.com/flash-sale-clubdlsot11x
Many of us are guilty of asking for other weight loss surgery patient's before and after photos.
I get the positive intention behind them.Â
Letâs dig deeper because maybe this can help you and you can help othersâŚ
What is underneath the before and after photos?
When you think about it, it is nothing more than some strangers before and after photos that has nothing to do you with you.Â
It has nothing to do with your journey.Â
Why do we all want them?
Listen to learn more.Â
My vision is for women to have access to this information about themselves, the awareness and the tools to changeâŚso that they can see itâs not them, it's just a PART of them. I will show you how to work with your parts to create balance in your system in the Club.Â

After thousands and thousands of hours working with Weight Loss Surgery Patients, I have identified 6 key Eating Saboteurs:
We all have these Saboteurs, but there will probably be 1 preomindate saboteur that comes out to play everytime you head to the fridge or pantry.Â
In this episode, I unpack each Saboteur and if you need help to identify your eating saboteur you can take the QUIZ here.Â

We all have a part of us that avoids things. But how might it play out specifically with your eating and weight? Avoidng gives us short term relief, but leads to longer term pain. I see the avoidance part playing out in 1 of 3 ways for women who struggle with their eating and weight:

Todayâs episode is something thatâs been on my mind and something that I have bene working on personally and I thought itâs always good to share it and we can work on this together!
It's about what your story or internal narrative iis? Where is your focus? Does it really support where you truly want to go (your v2.0 path).
What Iâve found is that our story, our attention is often on what we donât want (our V1 selves) rather than what we want (our V2.0 self).
Our brain is wired to problem solve, to focus more on the negatives than the positives.
So we need to train our brain to focus on what we want,
If we leave our brain running on auto pilot, it can continue to run in V1.0 mode. This is like working with a a very old, outdated computer system. It will slow us down and wonât support us in reaching our goals.
We need change the computer program ourselves.
Let me share how to get started today.
Announcements - I have created a customised cravings control reset. This for you if you just need to press the reset button on your eating.
It involves receiving the best of my cravings re-wiring tools, plus a zoom session where we jump on and I help you identify your subconscious sabotage blocks. Itâs one of my super powers.
Itâs powerful to explore WHY you keep turning to the food, even though you donât want to. Itâs at a really affordable price right now. Spots are fillingâŚif you wanting to try out this work with me, itâs a great opportunity to do just that.

Do you connect deeply with your feelings?
Might this send you to the fridge?Â
This is what we talk about in today's episode.Â
If you are a sensitive soul and are looking for a way to navigate this without heading to the food every time, take a listen.Â
It's our feelings that lead us to the food.
I've found that many women are either numbed out from their feelings, or they feel their feelings very deeply.Â
Both of these situations can lead to more eating.Â
Today we explore what to do when you are numbed out from your feelings.Â
I include some tips on where to get started.Â
So many people think itâs so easy and simple. Just eat less and exercise more.Â
But Iâm unsure if you know this or not, but we all have a part of us that DOESN'T want to change.
I used to think that there was something wrong with me. It was my fault and it was a control issue and everyone had control except me.Â
The more I felt like a failure, the more that I felt bad about myself, beat myself up and then I would turn to food again. I would get into a loop. It was a real rut. I'd gain weight in this rut and it would reinforce this narrative I was telling myself.Â
This is what I wished I had known back in the dayâŚ.that I want you to know today. Listen for more...
If this resonates, come and watch my Free Training (limited time only) where we explore the part of you that DOESN'T want to change.  You will get a taste of how I use EMDR processing with your V1.0 parts which I typically do with my paid clients.

If you are struggling with your eating habits, I have a new way to think about it.
I have started to explore the area of working with our different parts.
I have a free workshop about this next week that I wanted to invite you to if this resonates.
We are the sum of many parts.
We have a part of us that wants us to change, and wants the best for us, and we all have a part that sabotages us. Iâve been exploring this in every coaching call in my NBT program, because if we arenât showing V2.0 behaviors -thereâs often a part of us that is blocking it.
This is why the area of eating is just so complex!
There are many layers to work through.
Come and join me live if you can as itâs very interactive and Iâd love to hear from you. Otherwise I will be sharing a replayâŚ

The last night that we were in Tasmania for school holidays, I started to have this bingey feeling. I just wanted to get food in. I had about 5 chocolates, 2 glasses of wine that I guzzled and half an icecream over a short period of time. Â
I recognised that old feeling of just wanting to shovell anything into my mouth.
During it, I didnât use any of my tools. Afterwards, I didnât use any of my tools.
I basically went to bed feeling pretty crappy and beating myself up - I know better etc.

When things are predictable you feel like you have some control right?
This is where it got me thinking, this perhaps might just be more of a control issue than a fear issue. I used to think this block was more about the fear of the unknown.
Rather than the issue being fearâŚ..I feel like this issue could be about a loss of controlâŚ.

HOW TO REWIRE YOUR BRAIN AROUND YOUR #1 MOST PROBLEMATIC EATING HABIT
Are you stuck in a comfort cycle that is preventing you from stepping into your V2.0 self.Â
Letâs talk about comfort levels.Â
Women say _ I want to change. I want peace, I want freedom. I want to trust myself around food, I want to thrive.Â
But they get stuck in a comfort cycle.Â
Maybe this might be where you are stuck as well.
Listen to learn more.Â
Psychology 101 tells us our thoughts leads to our feelings, our feelings lead to our behaviour.Â
We have a thought that we are a failure with our eating/weight > this leads to a feeling of feeling helpless, ashamed or disappointed > behav - lead to more eating.
We get stuck in a v1.0 cycle. Same thinking gets the same results.Â
V2.0 thinking can get v2.0 outcomes, because when we choose an empowering thought we feel more empowered and we typically make empowered choices with our eating.

Ella like most of the women I work with, struggled with her eating since a young age. She had WLS approx 4 years ago, released weight, regained weight and identified a reoccuring trigger for weight gain which was the feeling of loss of control.   The main difference with this guest today is that she is actually a dietitan!  You are going to hear the journey of a dietitan who has gone through all of the ups and downs after WLS...showing that that all of the knowledge in the world, doesn't fix the problem.  She shares the inner work that she did to clear the emotional baggage that she had been carrying around for years.  This is a long episode so I have divided this up into 2 parts.  This is part 2.  Trigger Warning: Mention of sexual abuse.

Have you asked yourself this question?
Often, we are prepared to put in work in other areas of our life, but we secretly want the area of eating and weight to be easy (and to not work at it).
This is a perfectionsim block.Â
Listen to learn more and what to start doing each day to shift it.Â
Most of us have a default mode of doing. We are very proficient at doing. Doing mode is about being busy, to do lists, the strategy is to control. We know we are doing when our awareness is in our head.   We are either doing, or being. They are mutually exclusive.Â
We can not be and do at the same time.
When we experience cravings, our awareness is in our head. When we are âdoingâ we are also in our head - we are more susceptible to sabotaging ourselves, giving into our cravings - that happens when we are in the doing energy.

I see so many WLS patients who still have the old, pre-surgery self worth - the surgery itself does not upgrade your self worth. Then many WLS patients have their self worth tied up in their weight and appearance. "If I get to goal weight, then Iâll feel good about myself. If I am not losing weight or Iâve gained weight then I donât feel good about myself." This is like being on a roller coaster - ups and downs. Stressful way to live your life and disempowering. Find out the #1 question to ask yourself everyday that can start to shift your self worth.
I have teamed up with Bariatric Dietitian Margaret Hays as she unpacks this question from a dietitic perspective, and I unpack this question from a Psychological perspective - because nothing is in isolation!

Would it serve you to release some V1.0 clutter?
In this episode I encourage you to perform an internal and external audit.
To what extent is your environment, social media and interactions serving you at the V2.0 level?
What internal stories and old feelings might you be holding onto that would serve you to release?
Let's do this x
Are you waiting for your circumstances to change before you change?
Have you ever said to yourself that you'll start again tomorrow?

Have you ever committed to something that you know would really help you, and then youâve taken no action?
It got me thinking about procrastination as a form of sabotage and I thought it would be great to explore this on the podcast as I think this can be a common block for many listeners.Â
We know that Sabotage is sneaky. It happens at the subconscious level.  Â
Sabotage looks like resistance. We canât seem to get started, or we get started and we stop.
Listen to learn more!
How do we know what sabotage block we are sitting with thatâs affecting our eating and weight?
If you are not where you want to be with your eating and weight, it's more than likely that there's a sabotage block (or a combination of blocks) that are in control of your eating and weight. Such as all or nothing thinking, perfectionism, eating to numb out etc.
In this episode I share with you how to identify what's going on with eating and weight with these 4 simple questions.Â
This last weekend I was at a professional development course and was paired up with a buddy who wanted to work on her weight regain.Â
She lost 60kg a few years ago and started to receive male attention, and whilst part of her enjoyed it, another part of her felt overwhelmed and she didn't know what to do with this new attention.Â
This was an identity issue. Â
She still had her old fat identity that didn't support her new body, and her body downgraded (she regained all the weight).Â
Listen to this episode if you want to change your eating and weight, but you're repeating the same eating patterns each day.Â
Julie had struggled most of her life with her eating and weight and described food as being her friend and it meant everything to her. Like most WLS patients she tried everything to lose weight and then had WLS surgery a few years ago. All was going well until a traumatic event at work which set off the weight gain spiral.Â
Hear Julie's inspiring story as she has stepped into her V2.0 self and the power of upgrading her mind.Â

Today is a question that has come up a lot recently in the WLS clinic that I thought would be helpful to share. This is a quick, easy and helpful tip for you to use thatâs in the moment when deciding what to eat, whilst not going out of control with food.  I used it actually on Sat night when I was out to dinner!!!
Last week my almost 2 year had another seizure, and I was surprised at how I responded.Â
Do you think of worst case scenarios of how you will respond to future events? "I'll fail" "I can't do it" "I'll be a mess"Â
That's exactly what was happening for me, until I was in that exact same situation...and my response surprised me!

I get a little ranty in this episode, as I am seeing some big issues with certain posts in some WLS communities.  I talk about this a lot with my clients because it can be very triggering!
First of all, I think overall communities offer a great sense of support, connection, encouragement. They bring like minded people together and a sense of understanding and the feeling that youâre not alone - which is so incredibly important.Â
However, when there arenât strict boundaries around posts - it can become a bit of a free for all and some of these types of posts may lead you to take a step back on your own path and lead to sabotage.Â
Listen to find out more about what to look out for and what to avoid.
This week we hear from an NBT participant Susette. She had always struggled with her weight and tried everything to lose weight over the years. She decided to have WLS a few years ago and was going really well. In fact she was only 5 kg off her goal weight until she faced a stressful life event that sabotaged her success and her old ways started to sneak back in.Â
Listen to how she is back on track and has released 7kg naturally from this work on the program as she is back on her path.Â
Many women who I work with hold themselves at a much higher standard than they do others.Â
This is a subconscious Block around how you treat others vs how you treat yourself, which is underpinned by self worth.
The block is that if I hold myself to the same standard as I do to others, then Iâm a selfish person, because if I relax how I treat myself and talk to myself. If I relax this high standard that I have for myself, then I will let myself off the hook and perhaps lose motivation to change. I might just give up and resign myself to where Iâm at (which is what I donât want).
This is what we explore in this episode.Â
For so many of the clients Iâve worked with, they are very good at prioritising everyone else and bumping themselves down the bottom of the list. Which is our version 1.0 self.
When you decided to have WLS, it was perhaps the first time ever that you had priortised yourself. Itâs the first time that you said - this is about me. Itâs my time. Itâs my turn.Â
You do all of the things to support this - invest the time, money, and put the work to make your surgery a success. Â
But then the old ways can start to sneak back in....listen for more.
This week in my NBT group, we processed some deep blocks on perfectionism and procrastination.Â

Next week I have a photoshoot booked which has completely triggered me!!
Whenever you are triggered by something, there is something old behind it.Â
Your feelings are old feelings.Â
Your fears are old fears and we project these fears and other feelings onto the current situation.Â
A trigger isnât an isolated event. Itâs related to an old event.Â
Listen as I share what I learnt about my trigger.
I speak with Amanda Clark, award winning Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, with over 20 years experience working in bariatric surgery. Amanda has developed a system for more easily serving and eating the right amount of foods after weight loss surgery that we will hear about today.

We are a sum of different parts.Â
These parts want to keep you at your 1.0 self. This looks like making 1.0 decisions. Whether thatâs sneaking the chocolate in at 9pm at night when everyoneâs in bed or you could make decisions or pass up opportunities that could really help you to step into your 2.0 self, but you donât because one of your parts has talked you out of it.
Because these parts are 1.0 parts.. Meaning that theyâve been with you the whole time, these parts have been in your ear for years, telling you to keep eating, telling you to start tomorrow, telling you whatâs the point youâre going to fail anyway.Â
We canât get rid of these parts, but learn how to make decisions in alignment with you 2.0 self!
I see so many WLS patients working with a broken strategy.Â
Many WLS believe that the problem is all about control. They start looking externally for the answers in the diets, calorie counting, macros, shakes, diet pills.
But if control really worked then chances are you wouldnât have needed surgery in the first place. Surgery is not your first rodeo, itâs the last resort.
Learn what is the way to stop the sabotage to make your WLS a success.Â

I understand that if you have been weighing yourself for many years you can come to rely on regular weigh ins.Â
What I find is that when women are addicted to the scales, they are seeing it as a way to keep them in control, and the flip side is, if they donât weigh themselves they are worried that they will then feel out of control (and therefore, BE out of control with their eating).
However, there are a lot of women who weigh themselves AND feel out of control with their eating and weight.Â
That's what we are unpacking today.Â
This is a really personal share and I am feeling pretty raw and fragile right now, and thereâs things I want to share that Iâm sitting with right now that might help someone.Â
Last night I learned that a friendâs husband who I really loved died in a sudden and tragic way, leaving behind his gorgeous wife and 2 young boys. I cried all of last night and Iâm still feeling pretty emotional about it all.
None of us have control over life (although we like to think we do) and we need to sometimes navigate tough things.
In this episode I share how to navigate tough times WITHOUT eating your way through it.Â

You may not think that your emotional eating is helping you, however, I also want to raise your self awareness to understand WHY you are emotionally eating.Â
Firstly, any time we continue a behaviour, such as 9pm eating on the couch after the kids are in bed, thereâs a benefit. If there was no benefit or payoff, we would stop that behaviour.Â
In this episode we dig a bit deeper in this episode to help you to understand how your emotional eating is helping you.

This is really the million dollar question!!!
The first thing is to watch your all or nothing thinking.
You donât want to be either consciously or subconsciously thinking that you will be good next year, whether thatâs starting a new diet or telling yourself youâll be good come Jan 1st.Â
Itâs like a Iâll start tomorrow mentality...and we are not taking responsibility for our our choices.Â
The all or nothing thinking is about being good or bad, or a success or a failure or in control or out of control and nothing in between.
Listen now for more tips.Â
Changes in routine and structure can really trigger WLS to be out of control around food and get to January and want to start dieting and end up in the V 1.0 mindset.Â
Find out the key 3 triggers to watch out for over the Holiday Season to stay on track with your eating and weight to feel good about yourself come January 1st!
WLS or even losing a sig amount of weight will not guarantee to change how you feel about yourself on the inside.Â
Your body image is an inside job.Â
You wonât enjoy your WLS life if you donât shift this. Â
Itâs like your significant weight loss hasnât occurred because youâve got the same v1.0 feelings. Feeling self conscious, feeling judged, hating on certain parts of your body.
Hear from my dietitian colleague, Julie Hennessy as we bust through some weight loss surgery myth that may be contributing you to your weight gain or stall after surgery.Â
Here's what we are unpacking in this episode:
Should you eat breakfast every day?
Or should I eat small meals each day to kickstart my metabolism?
Will my surgery will control how much I eat and types of food I eat?
Bypass or sleeve? Which will have the maximum weight loss outcome and allow me to enjoy my life?
Learn it all in this episode :)Â
When I was overweight I thought, when I lose the weight, when Iâm skinny, I will start dating, I will go for that job, I will studying this degree.Â
Let me ask you..is there anything in your life that you are putting off until you get there with your weight?
No one will judge me when Iâm skinny and I will live the life I want to live.Â
What I now realise and share this with my clients isâŚ
People are going to judge you regardless.

If youâre not where you want to be with your eating and weight, chances are you are committed to version 1.0, and your thoughts/feelings and behaviours have aligned with that commitment.
Most people think that they are not a committed person. Â
They say things like - Iâve got no willpower, I have no control. Iâm just lazy. Iâm not committed.Â
But you are always committing to something. Learn what you've been committing to in this important episode
Failure and weight is inextricably linked when it comes to weight loss surgery.Â
Chances are that you felt like a failure BEFORE you had surgery.
This doesn't go away after surgery, and if it's not cleared, then you are susceptible to regaining your lost weight.Â
You will hear all of this and more when you listen to this podcast as I talk with special guest Tammy who had a sleeve 2 years ago, and she shares her relationship with failure and her weight and what was required for her to clear her failure block so she could step into version 2.0
We all have an inner mean girl. Itâs the part of us that is judgy, critical and compares us to others and we always fall short. She calls us fat, a failure, you canât get what you want. Youâre greedy. Youâre lazy. Itâs like an inner bully.Â
It also affects our eating and weight. Either you eat to escape from the constant attacks all day. Or your inner mean girl tells you to eat. You may as well eat because youâre destined to be big.

Welcome Michael Hii, Michael is a Osphogeal & Bariatric surgery at Melbourne Gastro Osphoegeal surgery. I've worked in the WLS clinic in the team with Michael since 2016, and Michael is a big believer in psychological services to support WLS and that's what we are going to unpack today.
We speak about:
Weight regain after WLS, when does this typically become an issue and why does this become an issue?
WLS is just a tool. We've heard it all before. What did the patients not realise pre surgery that they learnt learned after surgery.Â
You refer a lot of patients to me in the WLS clinic - what are the flags that you see that prompts you to send them my way - both pre-surgery and post surgery?
This can either be a fear before surgery and a real concern after surgery.
I often raise this as a potential flag for some clients that I see pre surgery.Â
I find thereâs a real mix. Some women say - no way I canât wait to get rid of the excess weight, that wonât be a problem for me. I get it - often we donât know until we are in it that it could be a potential issue. But if your weight has been on you for years or decades, itâs on you for a reason. Itâs serving a role, otherwise you wouldnât be here.Â
For other women, they can def see that this could be an issue for them once they lose a significant amount of weight after surgery and they have concerns that it could lead to sabotage.Â
Excess weight is safe.Â
Excess weight gives you protection and a buffer.Â
Itâs something we really want to check in with ourselves on pre and post surgery.Â
Post surgery it could be a key reason as to why you regained your lost weight.
Many of my clients have struggled with their weight their whole life.Â
Your first memory is being the chubby kid.Â
Often another family member was small, didnât struggle with their weight.Â
But you always felt like the big one. Â
Youâd go to school and notice that play out as well.Â
Maybe your friends were wearing certain, fashionable clothes back then, and you couldnât wear those clothes - further reinforcing that youâre different - youâre the big one. Youâre not normal, like your friends.Â
Fast forward to now, maybe you still feel the same around your friends? Maybe you still feel the same in yourself.Â
I will show you how to test to see if your identity has not been upgraded after WLS.Â
Then grab your free download here to work on your version 2.0 new identity >>

Are you secretly eating and holding onto your excess weight as an act of rebellion?
This is related to my second pillar in my version 2.0 upgrade model, which is all about your identity. Who do you need to BE to make your WLS a success. We are actually clearing this block in the version 2.0 upgrade program next week.Â
Many clients that I work with are using food and their weight as an act of rebellion.Â
I will unpack the 3 reasons as to why you might be sabotaging yourself with food & regaining your lost weight.
If youâd like to clear this rebellion block at a subconscious level, send me an email at info@georgiebeames.com and Iâll share how you can do that.
If you have stalled or regained any weight after WLS, it could be that your psychological set point weight may be causing this to happen.
We have a psychological set point weight that can determine your current weight. Â
If your weight isn't where you want it to be, find out how you can find out your magic number that will change everything.Â
Message me to find out how to change your psychological set point weight info@georgiebeames.com
Thereâs a part of you that signed up to WLS wanting to change, and then another part that is eating chocolate every night. This is how sabotage plays out.Â
We are a sum of many parts. We have the part of us that wants the best for us, and yet another part that wants to stay safe.Â
Sabotage does not go away once your 'fix' your eating and weight.
Learn WHY you keep sabotaging yourself in this episode.
I want to talk you through goal weight trap that I see play out a lot with women...regardless of whether you have had surgery or not.Â
I had a session with one of my lovely 1 on 1 clients and itâs her birthday in 2 weeks time and she wanted to be a specific weight for her birthday. She started tracking and counting and got a bit obsessive with it all.
Guess what happened?
She started to eat more. She started to sabotage herself.Â
Listen to find out more and to learn what needs to change to get back on your weight loss path.Â
If you want to learn more about how to clear your blocks around all or nothing thinking, control and self worth, send me a direct message and I can share more.Â
Itâs another personal share today around what I am doing to be my version 2.0 despite extraordinary and challenging circumstances...being stage 4 lock down here in Melbourne.Â
When I found out we were in stage 4 lockdown - I started to get into victim mode. I started eating.Â
I then realised that I have a choice.Â
Stay in victim mode, feel sorry for myself and let me circumstances control meâŚwhich would involve not doing the things that would really help me to thrive.Â
OrÂ
I can put myself in the drivers seat of what I do have control over.Â
Thatâs exactly what I did.Â
Join the conversation that I have with a WLS Dietitian, Julie Hennessy as we unpack some misconceptions about protein post WLS and how it could be leading to weight gain, and not weight loss. Â
You won't want to miss it!

Lisa is a post-weight loss surgery client I've been working with for the last three months. She had a mental block that the sleeve wouldn't work for her (she wished she got a bypass), she always felt like the big one in her friendship group and sabotage snuck in very quickly and she was worried that she would waste all that money she spent on surgery and the opportunity. Lisa openly shares with you some of the mental shifts she's achieved during our work which has led to dramatic transformations in her sense of self-worth, identity, and her eating habits. If you do, you are not alone.Â
So we want to honor tummy hunger but, for head hunger, we want to start to identify it and try out some different strategies.Â
Head hunger is instant. For instance, we mightâve just finished lunch or dinner and we have an instant urge and craving. Itâs like this tension in our body. This driving force that takes over. We feel like we have no control. You know what Iâm talking about right?
We might white knuckle our way through a craving, but letâs be honest â thatâs only short term and itâs hard work!
FREE WORKSHOP SERIES
On Monday 27th July, I am running a free workshop series - where I cover off 2 steps of my 5 step methodology to upgrade your mind mind from version 1.0 to version 2.0.
Join here >> https://www.facebook.com/groups/570001309855819
Have you ever lost weight in the past and then regained it?
That is because your identity and self worth did not support your behaviours (eating and exercise).
The secret is to upgrade your identity, self worth and eating habits FIRST.
Pre WLS you had version 1.0 mind, and a version 1.0 body.Â
Post WLS your body had an upgrade to version 2.0 (significant weight loss, health benefits etc), however your mind is still operating at version 1.0.
Your mind will not automatically upgrade itself.Â
You must facilitate the upgrade with the right programs (just like a upgrading from windows 7 to 10!).
Sustainable weight loss is a by product of this upgrade to version 2.0.
Join me on July 27th for a workshop series in my free group Food Freedom.
Please email me at info@georgiebeames.com if you want to learn more around my new group program to upgrade your mind to version 2.0
Does this sound like you.
The night before you are fired up to get up early and go for a walk or go to the gym, then the alarm goes off and you hit snooze !!
Or you say to yourself, after work Iâll go for that walk...then it gets to 5pm and you think - I canât be bothered and you sit on the couch and watch mindless TV instead!
Can you see that we make an either/or choice that are actually opposite to one another.Â
Itâs like Iâm either going to the gym, or Iâm numbing out in front of netflix with chocolate.
The choices are - doing something positive for yourself or doing something that is an avoidance strategy that numbs you out.Â
Thatâs the thing, you canât have both, you have to choose one.
Want to gain control of your eating and avoid the regain?
https://www.foodbrainrewired.com/apply1on1
I've spent the last 5 days in hospital with my son, Nate in sleep school changing all the bad habits.Â
It got me thinking about where you might be right now with your eating and weight.  Â
Youâve had surgery, and now some bad eating habits have snuck back in. Youâre aware of the bad habits, but a bit like me - just knowing the bad habits isnât enough to change it. Â
Awareness is a great start, but itâs not enough to change.Â
A bit like me, you might be feeling overwhelmed - "where do I start?" or "itâs all too hard", or "maybe I should do this or that" - all of that conflicting information.
Listen for the key questions to ask yourself to shift you from surviving to thriving. Â

If you have bumped yourself way down on the priority list and youâre just running around busy looking after everyone else taking care after everyone else, then you need to hear this message today because it is affecting your eating and itâs affecting your weight.
What weâre doing is weâre either eating during the day thinking weâre giving ourselves a burst of energy to get through the day, or the other common theme I see with women is that at the end of the night itâs like theyâre on, on, on, on, on during the day, and then the minute the kids are in bed or after dinner when the TV is on they are OFF.Â
And OFF looks like eating right?
Listen to learn what is REALLY going on!!

Iâm 40, Iâm 50, Iâm 60 - and you might find yourself asking, why do I not have control over this issue? Why do I not have control over my eating and weight?
I have control over all other areas of my life.Â
Then you might go here, "I havenât had this and that happen to me, other people are sooo worse off than me, I shouldnât complain, this is a first world problem -why canât I sort it out??"
Listen to understand the key questions to ask yourself to get you back in control.
I work with a lot of clients who are very successful in their career and other areas of their life. They are in control in these areas and are very competent.
However, they feel out of control with eating and their weight. Itâs like they are successful and in control in all areas of their life, but they feel like a failure when it comes to their eating and weight.
They try to apply the same strategies that make them successful in their career to their eating, however in reality they end up losing more and more control, leading to more and more weight gain.Â
Why is this?
This is what we are going to unpack today.
Learn why this is a broken strategy and what to do instead.Â
Iâve worked with many clients who are not in their own body.Â
What I mean by that is that they received messages both implicitly and explicitly about their body when they were growing up, and it became a self fulfilling prophecy (aka being overweight).
In the most part, there are 2 way that we let our mother's relationship with food and weight influence our weight:Â
I want you to consider how this might be relevant to you..and if you have daughters how this is also relevant to you too. Most parents say to me I want to be a positive role model for my daughter...and this is the place to start.
Youâre in the honeymoon phase and the weight is dropping off like it never has before without really forcing it or hard work.Â
Everyone is noticing your weight loss and the complements are coming thick and fast.Â
You are wearing clothes that you love and you are loving these new changes and youâre excited about the future.Â
You have NEVER felt this way before, and you are LOVING it.Â
And then you end up one night eating a chocolate bar after everyone goes to bed.Â
That old friend, Sabotage creeps in.Â
WHY!!!???
Numbers are neutral. Itâs the meaning youâve attached to that specific number. I want you to really reflect on why you have chosen 75kg and not 83kg. Itâs got nothing to do with the number but the meaning you have given it.Â
Pre-surgery you were feeling out of control, thatâs why you had surgery right? There were high levels of anxiety around your weight. Iâm guessing you got surgery to feel free...yet if you are so fixated on a number on the scales, youâre thinking still hasnât changed. Your thinking is not free. This deathgrip that you have on the number on the scale is also driven by anxiety. In your mind youâre still the old âfatâ you.Â
External strategies to control your eating and weight is a broken strategy. It may give you short term success, but will lead to weight gain in time and it will occupy a lot of your mental load...itâs extremely consuming mentally and emotionally.Â
When you stop dieting, you arenât free..you are just out of control and so you formed an incorrect belief that if you arenât following something external, you will end up stacking on the weight and staying there. Â
The goal isnât about trying to be in control. The goal is to start trusting yourself around food.
Are you all or nothing when it comes to your relationship with food and your weight?
Most women have the goal of wanting more control (and staying there!).
It's a broken strategy that will lead to weight GAIN not weight LOSS.
Itâs a paradox, the more you try to be in control with your eating, you will end up gaining more and more weight. When you think about it, if this strategy worked then you wouldnât be here.
You wouldnât have needed surgery in the first place because the first diet you ever went on would have worked. Youâd still be in control feeling virtuous and would not be listening to this podcast.
Iâm going to save you so much suffering if you can get your head around this one.

If you google how to stop a craving, blogs and women's magazines will give you the wrong advice. They tell you to distract yourself from a craving. It will then disappear and you can stay in control.
This does not work.
Distraction strategies leads to more stress/boredom/comfort eating.
In this episode I share with you an effective strategy that works so you can manage your cravings the right way.

We need to firstly conduct an audit to see where you are at with your emotional eating. Awareness is step 1 and we need to uncover your eating patterns and why you are turning to the food.
For most women it's boredom, stress eating or comfort eating (which we will get to later).
Whether you are aware of it at a conscious level or not, there is a
trigger that is occurring that is taking you straight to the food. It might be happening on automatic pilot for you and you have no awareness of whatâs happening prior â but there is always something happening to trigger your eating.
Itâs important that we identify your trigger eating times so that you can respond rather than react. This will help take you off automatic pilot with your emotional eating.

It's common in the weight loss industry to fall into the trap of a having a victim mentality where we are looking for workarounds and feeling like surgery should have fixed everything.
Taking 100% responsibility for everything we put into our mouths starts with a key question to ask yourself each time you have a thought around food.

Your body follows your mind.
WLS does not update your identity, and if you have spent years or even decades struggling with eating and your weight, there's a high chance that you still have the old fat identity (failure, sabotage, workarounds etc).
If you don't update your identity to match your body, it can just be a matter of time until your body matches your identity. This is a key reason why I see patient's regain their lost weight after surgery.
