The Canadian Entrepreneurs in New England host the FSLC (Financial Services Leadership Council) in a discussion on What Higher Interest Rates Mean for You and Your Business.
After years of extremely low interest rates, borrowing costs are rising fast, in the US, Canada and many other countries. Central bankers tell us to expect still further increases. The CENE FSLC (Financial Services Leadership Council) mission is to help Canadians living in the US with cross-border investing and financial issues and considerations. Most CENE members are Canadian expatriates now living in the US. Many have Canadian assets, liabilities, income, or expenses and are unsure of their obligations and potential choices. On February 17th, 2022, the Canadian Entrepreneurs in New England hosted a Virtual CENE on Establishing a U.S. Office. Steve Forte, EVP and CFO of Repare Therapeutics, and Stephen Graham, CEO of Breathe BioMedical shared the experiences of their companies who have expanded from Canada into the United States. In addition, Torys Partner Cheryl Reicin shared expert insight regarding legal issues to consider when setting up a US presence. On June 8th, CENE led a discussion about diversity in entrepreneurship and the factors that support an increasingly diverse founder group.
Our speakers included the co-authors of The New Builders, Seth Levine, Managing Director of the U.S.-based venture capital firm, Foundry Group and Elizabeth MacBride, founder of Times of Entrepreneurship and fellow at MIT Legatum Center along with Taylor Wilson, Associate at Toronto-based venture capital firm, Golden Ventures. Arati Sharma, founder of Canadian-based Backbone Angels, a collective of active angel investors coming together to invest in women and non-binary founders with a focus on investments in Black, Indigenous, and Women of Colour-led companies also joined the conversation.
On May 20, 2021 CENE welcomed Rodney Rietze, PhD, Co-founder and CEO of iVexSol. The company has developed an advanced manufacturing process for lentiviral vectors, gene-editing reagents that are critical components in the manufacturing processes of cell and gene therapies (CGTs).

André Picard's new book is "Neglected No More," which you can find wherever books are sold.
André Picard is a health reporter and columnist for the Globe and Mail where he has been a staff writer since 1987. He is also the author of five bestselling books. André is an eight-time nominee for the National Newspaper Awards, Canada’s top journalism prize, and past winner of a prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism. He was named Canada’s first "Public Health Hero" by the Canadian Public Health Association, and a "Champion of Mental Health" by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health, and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication to improving healthcare. André is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from six universities, including UBC and the University of Toronto.
Heidi Legg is an American/Canadian writer and journalist. She is currently a Research Fellow at the Institute of Quantitative Social Science at Harvard working on the Future of Media Project. For six years, she interviewed visionaries around her in Boston and Cambridge where she wove together big thinkers in their fields, using a singular long-format interview, much like The Paris Review and keeping these voices “on the record”, verbatim. Her interest is in finding individuals who are disrupting and improving the way we think and live.

Dr. Mossman is a Professor of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at McMaster University. Dr. Mossman leads a team of researchers at McMaster University who have isolated the virus in an effort to gain a better understanding of its biology and evolution and will share her insight from the cutting edge of research on COVID-19.
Dr. Mossman is also the Chair of McMaster Innovation Park's Board of Directors and has played an active role in developing Hamilton’s innovation ecosystem. As Vice President, Research at McMaster University, Dr. Mossman has provided invaluable insight about the commercialization process and how to make this process more realistic and attainable for the research community.
