Behind the Blue Curtain (BTBC) is a weekly call-in talk show streamed live on Blog Talk Radio and Facebook every Saturday morning. This show was created to facilitate better communication and cooperation between local police departments and the communities they serve. Our show tackles truly relevant issues in police/community relations. BTBC is a public forum wherein all listeners — be they scholars or past offenders — are afforded the opportunity to call and express their thoughts. On our show everybody is equal. The first half of the program is dedicated to identifying specific issues or topics and their possible solutions. The second half of the program is dedicated to the discussion of those topics and solutions. Behind the Blue Curtain frequently features special guests and co-hosts on our program. We speak to thought leaders and prominent practitioners in their fields to provide expert analysis and insight on the matters at hand. We directly and candidly address today’s most controversial and challenging issues with an eye toward developing feasible and effective solutions. Heard throughout the US and around the globe by thousands, BTBC is a collaborative effort. It is not Stan Mason’s show, or the team’s show, it is OUR show. We all see the videos of people saying they don’t have to ID themselves. If you don’t know the difference between a Terry Stop, Consensual Encounter, Custodial Arrest or Custodial Detention you might want to listen in before you catch a case. Just because you see people in social media videos getting away with it doesn’t mean you will. Laws vary state to state, county to county and city to city. Our Special Guest will be Cal “O.G.” Hollman and Lamar “L.A.” Brown. Cal and Lamar grew up together in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. When Lamar caught a life sentence all hope was lost, but Cal Hollman swung into action. Cal watched legal documentaries and would pause the video and write/research the names of the legal people then reach out to these people for advice and guidance. Lamar never gave up he would go to the jail’s law library and research cases and direct Cal to potential help. Cal travelled to Los Angeles (where he spent many of his formative years) and meet with people like Gloria Allred. Ultimately Cal “O.G. Hollman was able to help gain the freedom of his childhood friend Lamar L.A. Brown. This was a multi-year journey and did not come overnight. Cal Hollman is the living definition of what a “Brother” or a “Ride or Die” friend. If all of us had a little more Cal O.G. Hollman in us, how much better this world be? This Saturday, Feb 1, 2020 our guest will be Dr. Tiffany Crutcher. Dr. Crutcher is the twin sister of Terrence Crutcher who was killed by Betty Shelby on September 16, 2016, Terence Crutcher was a 40-year-old motorist, was shot and killed by police officer Betty Jo Shelby in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was unarmed during the encounter, in which he was standing near his vehicle in the middle of a street with a police helicopter hovering overhead

This week on Behind the Blue Curtain we have Kahreem Gaines father of Korryn Gaines. We’ve all seen the social media accounts and the cable media stories but what have we not been told about this story. Mr. Gaines is going to share little known facts that he believes contributed to the death of his daughter, Korryn. Mr. Gaines is an On-Call Volunteer at Work for Needy People and is a US Navy Veteran US Navy Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois The shooting of Korryn Gaines occurred on August 1, 2016, in Randallstown, Maryland, near Baltimore, resulting in the death of Gaines, a 23-year-old woman, and the shooting of her son, who survived. According to the Baltimore County Police Department, officers sought to serve Gaines a warrant in relation to an earlier traffic violation. Immediately after entering to serve the warrant, Gaines' reportedly aimed a shotgun at the initial officer, prompting him to withdraw without shots being fired. The Baltimore County SWAT team responded, and a standoff began. Portions of the standoff were filmed by Gaines and posted to social-media networking sites. Facebook deactivated Korryn's Facebook and Instagram accounts, In 2018, courts awarded the Gaines family $37 million in damages after finding that the first shot, fired by Royce Ruby and killing Gaines, was not reasonable, and thus violated their civil rights. That verdict was overturned in February 2019 by Judge Mickey Norman who ruled that physical evidence suggests Gaines' was raising her weapon when shot, thus posing a threat to Ruby and his team. 167 American Police Officers died by Suicide in 2018. For the third straight year, police officer suicides exceeded all combined causes of line-of-duty-deaths. California (14) and Texas (12) had the highest number of officer suicides. At least 12 officers killed themselves on duty—in their patrol car or at their agency. In December alone, 22 officers died by suicide. In contrast, there were 10 line-of-duty deaths. Nearly every Department has a union or police officer association. Officers pay monthly dues. Then there is the Fraternal Order of Police and various state associations that officers belonged to. So why haven't and federal, state and local politicians introduced a bill on the topic of FREE MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT NATIONWIDE for all current and retired First Responders? Both Republican and Democrat officials offer nothing but thoughts, prayers and teddy bears. No legislation to help. We're also going to talk about the Philadelphia Police shooting and the maniacs the carried that out. A street code or “Rules of the Game” until now. Respect for the children, elderly people, schools and churches in the neighborhood was a standing order, not an option. It was the job of the Police Officer to catch the drug Dealer and the job of the Drug Dealer to not get caught. The Officers didn’t want to cause any more disruption in the neighborhood than was necessary to do their job effectively and the Drug Dealer didn’t want the Police in the neighborhood because of stupid incidents because it impacted their sales. Any good street officer will tell you that it was the O.G.s in the neighborhood that maintained peace and to a degree policed the “youngstas”. The criminal element also knew the officers that were fair and policed the right way and the rookies, the mavericks/heroes, the crooked cops and the ones who “go along” and keep quiet. Within the chaos that many citizens read about from the safety of their kitchen table there was a degree of order that the officer and criminal in that area knew and respected, It was simply known as respect. What happened? Where did that go? The Veteran Officers and the O.G.s are looking at todays New Breed and don’t want to be around them. He was a counterintelligence special agent for 16 years working on the joint terrorism task force with a focus on counter narcotics and counterterrorism. He is a husband and a father. CJ is currently attending law school to become a civil rights attorney in order to help provide access to Justice for those who cannot afford it. He's been on the front lines of mini free speech and second amendment issues within the state of Texas and has been arrested three times in furtherance of that objective. Robert Head is a Texas veteran who helped to develop a medical marijuana farm in Maine. Graduate from Texas A&M and living in Dallas I advocate for medical marijuana for veterans. While doing this work, I have had the opportunity to work with law enforcement on this topic. I teach a class on "What is hemp and marijuana" for communities to have a better understanding of the plant as legalization makes its way across the country. Gerald Kaczmarek was born in New Orleans, to a single mother and low-income environment, He joined the New Orleans Police Department June 1994. His career was short-lived by Oct 2001, he started on a low form of narcotic. He and his family went through Katrina, and by August 2007 they decided to relocate to Colorado Springs, where Gerald stopped drinking, started on oxycontin and Percocet. Saturday November 2, 2019 on Behind the Blue Curtain we’re going to discuss the conversation that African American and other families of color have with their kids regarding interacting with the police. This conversation usually takes place around 8-10 years old. It’s not a “Police are your friend” or “You can trust the police” conversation. It’s not a demonization of police but it is centered around your child’s safety. You must teach them that they may be stopped for no reason, pulled over for no reason, spoken to harshly, and treated like a criminal for no reason. Now that sounds hard to some of you, but its factual. Sure, not every Police Officer is bad, but the statistics don’t lie. African Americans are disproportionately stopped, searched, arrested and receive harsher sentences than white Americans. Enforcement of the immigrational policy is aimed at “those brown people” in the southern United States. Even white parents with black children have had this conversation with their children. If they haven’t, they will. The problem is NOT white people. The problem is racial and cultural ignorance in enforcement of laws, and a “for profit” prison and legal system. This Saturday on Behind the Blue Curtain we're going to discuss what happened to Diamond Ross in Dallas, Texas on August 18, 2018. Dallas Police have released several hours of disturbing video that showed a shocking series of events. Why didn’t Diamond get medical treatment at the scene? Upon arrival at the jail, she was tossed into a wheelchair, placed in a chain link cell and left unattended. Police initially responded after getting a call that she was in a disturbance. DPD says officers requested an ambulance to evaluate Ross. But officers took her into custody for outstanding city warrants after paramedics said Ross was fine and could be transported. Officers kept her on scene for a while, but when they arrived at the city’s detention facility, Ross appeared unresponsive as they placed her into a wheelchair. But after a detention officer tried to determine if Diamond was breathing, she called paramedics who arrived four minutes later, performed CPR, then transported to the hospital where she died. Diamond Ross’ mother said officers should not have brought her to the detention facility. “She should have gone straight to the hospital

Chrystul is 19 and facing life in prison for killing Randy Volar, a prolific pedophile who she says started having sex with her when she was 16 and even sold her to other men. Chrystul confessed to killing Volar, who was out on bail while accused of filming himself abusing about a dozen girls, some looking to be as young as 12. The Washington Post said. Kizer shot Volar, 33, twice in the head last June because he had drugged her and was pinning her to the ground to rape her. She allegedly panicked and lit his body on fire to try to hide the evidence. Kizer’s charges include arson and first-degree intentional homicide, which carries a mandatory life sentence in Wisconsin. She is being held on $1 million bail, was it premeditated murder or was it self-defense? We’ll also talk about the 34 Corrections Cadets in West Virginia who posed in an academy picture with the Nazi Salute. Governor Jim Justice is wanting to fire all 34 Guards and 3 Staff Members and also discipline 4 instructors. There is the new Law in New York that basically gets rid of bonds for some misdemeanor and non-violent offenses. freerodneyreed.com Rodney Reed is currently on Death Row in a Texas awaiting execution at the end of this month. He was convicted of the murder and sexual assault of Stacey Stites in Bastrop Texas. On the 23rd of April 1996, 19 year old Stacey Stites fails to show up for work at the H.E.B grocery store in Bastrop, Texas. Her coworker opens up the shop without her, expecting her to show up any minute. About 2 hours after she should have been at work, at 5:23 am, her fiance's(Jimmy Fennell's) truck, which Stacey usually takes to work, is discovered in the Bastrop High school parking lot by a police officer. Since Stacey isn't yet reported missing, the officer continues his patrol, after calling it in. Around 7:00 am, Staceys co-worker,calls Stacey's mom, Carol Stites, who immediately calls Stacey's fiance, Giddings Police Officer Jimmy Fennell.. At about 3:00 pm on that same day, her partially clothed body is discovered in a wooded area. She’s been strangled with her own belt and tests confirm DNA from an unknown male in and on her body. Stacey's fiance, Officer Jimmy Fennell becomes the prime suspect, as he was the last to see her alive. The DNA didnt match Jimmy, despite him failing two lie detector tests, he's ruled out as a suspect. Rodney Reed becomes the main suspect. Reed denies knowing Stacey, until police hits him the with DNA evidence. Renown forensic pathologists including Michael Baden, M.D., Werner Spitz, M.D., LeRoy Riddick, M.D., and Cyril Wecht, M.D. have all concluded that Reed’s guilt is medically and scientifically impossible.
