God calls each of us to use our spiritual gifts and share the gospel. As we glorify God (upward)
and edify one another (inward), we also need an outlet for God’s truth (outward). The gospel was

As Nehemiah continued the work of rebuilding, the opposition was unrelenting. When outward threats didn’t work, the enemy tried to discourage and disrupt the work from within. We can expect this in our walks as well.

Nehemiah’s memoir is a testament to the faithfulness of God who (unlike us) doesn’t abandon His projects halfway through. As the story unfolds, it points us toward God’s ultimate restoration project and the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. We have a Savior who restores hearts and rebuilds lives!
Nehemiah’s example teaches us that rebuilding starts with prayer, but it doesn’t end there. After praying, we must get up and get involved. This week, Cathe discusses what that looks like in everyday life.

The beauty of Advent (as opposed to the commercial thing we’ve made of Christmas) is not about gifts. It’s about what Jesus has already given and what He is still offering. Take a moment to sit with Cathe and consider a question that Jesus often asked: “What do you want me to do for you?” This Christmas don’t settle for the temporary or superficial. Bring your brokenness, your doubts, your mess. Ask for water that never runs dry. Treasure that won’t tarnish with the years. Ask big and then watch Him move.

Galatians might not read like a typical love letter, but Paul loved the believers in the churches there and wanted to keep them accountable. After preaching the gospel throughout the region on his first visit, many Gentiles were saved, and new believers were growing in their faith. But troublemakers infiltrated the church, convincing them that faith wasn’t enough without keeping the law, too.
Paul was understandably angry because gospel revision of any kind is gospel reversal. We see this in our own culture today. In this episode, Tiffany reminds us that the invitation of the gospel is for everyone, and the truth of the gospel is by grace, through faith in Christ alone.

Just as the prophet Isaiah foretold, this sign reveals Jesus as Messiah, who would open the eyes of the blind. Not only did he receive physical sight, the man’s spiritual eyes of faith were opened when Jesus lit up his world and transformed his life.

James 4 began with talking about war with God and ends with the will of God. The topic of God’s will for our life is so big and honestly, we struggle with that sometimes. As Warren Wiersbe used to say, a believer who is out of the will of God becomes a troublemaker, not a peacemaker!
Life can be complicated and sometimes scary, but God desires the very best for His children. He knows that the process of seeking Him is as important as the answer He might give to any question. Reading these last few chapters of Acts, the end of the story is left open. Why? Because the Spirit of God is still working in the Church today. What made the apostle Paul tick? Cathe highlights four characteristics that were true of Paul and can be for us as well. As Christians, we see life differently than non-Christians. We hold different views about business, money, sex, marriage, death. We enjoy many of the same things in life (food, art, music, and sports to name a few) but realize even the good things can become an idol. Yet even in the Church, many have a shallow understanding of Scripture or how to express a biblical worldview.
In this episode, Cathe discusses how to influence culture right where you are, in your world of work, school and home. Paul gives us a great example for how to engage others in a way that builds bridges. He listened, dialogued, and debated—and he did so with respect and compassion. But even Paul, persuasive as he was, often didn’t get the response he wanted. Being an effective witness isn’t measured by immediate results, so don’t shy away. May God grant us grace as we make the truth of the gospel known to others.

When conflicts arise, how do you handle it? In Acts 15 we see Jews and Gentiles, both part of the body of Christ, learning how to live with each other in spite of differing opinions and strong convictions. We can almost hear the volume on these pages being turned up! Even Paul and Barnabas, partners in ministry, experienced conflict. Yet both men were faithful and God worked through them to expand and strengthen the Church.

Prayer played a major role in the early church. It was vital to their growth and faith, as it should be for us today as well. As the church continued to grow, the needs multiplied and Peter and the apostles recognized that they couldn’t do it all. They needed help to meet the needs of the church. Before the events of Acts 2, we would not have put Peter’s name in the same sentence with the word “courageous”. But then God’s Spirit came like a mighty wind and gave them the power to be bold witnesses. In this episode, we see how the religious leaders responded to the proclamation of the gospel and the resurrection. Welcome to our study in the Book of Acts! In this episode, Cathe Laurie gives an overview of the church and asks us to consider how we bear a family likeness to these early disciples. The early church was made up of people just like you and me whose lives unfolded, one day at a time. But encountering Jesus and being filled with the Holy Spirit changed their lives, their homes, their neighborhood—and before long, changed their world.
Over the course of our study, we will see the early church was distinctly counter-cultural. In a harsh world, their community was one of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. In a promiscuous, anything goes culture, they stood out for their commitment to sexual purity and sanctity of marriage. In a suffering world, their hospitality and selfless devotion to care for the poor and suffering was unprecedented.
We can learn a thing or two about evangelism from these early disciples. Are we willing to invite people into our lives so they can see how we live? When people observe us in everyday life, would they say our resemblance to Christ is obvious?

Have you ever wondered what eternity in Heaven with Christ will be like? In this episode, Tiffany Velasquez shares four truths from this chapter about heaven.
Heaven is a real place for real people. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place and would come back for us. Even now, the Lord is doing something new in your life, so don’t get distracted, don’t get discouraged. Our God is in the business of making all things new, and He is making a new way for you.
Heaven is relational. Jesus will be there and we will dwell with Him. We were created to have communion with the Lord forever. Words fall short of what it will be like to be with Jesus, and we will also be reunited with those we love.
Heaven is a place of relief. No more tears, death, sorrow or pain. No more sin. Heaven is a place where all of our needs will be met.
Heaven is restricted. Only believers will inhabit Heaven. This should give us a renewed sense of urgency and passion for sharing the gospel. How are you currently applying this to your life? Who do you know that needs to hear the gospel and how will you share it with them?
Today, we can be filled with confidence and wonder as we look at what Jesus has been preparing for us in Heaven!

Just when we thought we were at the climax of Revelation, we find a surprise twist in chapter 20. What can we learn from Lucifer’s fall? Pride corrupts. Sin has consequences and Satan is defeated. The message is clear: taking personal pride in the gifts that God gives us rather than giving thanks to Him leads to ultimate destruction.
In this episode with Wendy MacGinnis, those who sacrificed their lives to resist the lies of Satan will be brought back to reign with Christ. It will be a perfect environment with a perfect king and no temptation from Satan. But God knows the heart of man can only be changed by His grace. God always gives us a choice and when Satan is released, some will still choose rebellion. A perfect environment cannot produce a perfect heart. In the end, there will be no place for unbelievers to hide.
Wendy reminds us that we can rest easy knowing our future is safe with Jesus. Our antagonist Satan will be destroyed. Jesus will be our Judge and we will be His Bride. You can choose to enjoy this journey we call life with heavenly purpose, confidently knowing that the victory is won.

In this episode, we see the utter desolation of the world system in just a single moment. The world laments God’s judgment because everything they had was taken away. Even though we won’t be on earth when this takes place, there are valuable lessons for today.
God takes seriously the sin of pride and idolatry. Shelley Hurley reminds us that being separate from the world doesn’t mean that we only hang with Christians. The world needs to see Jesus. But when we blend in, instead of standing out, why would they want what we have?
Has the world, with its idols and “me-first” ways crept into your heart and home? Is my heart truly broken by the things that break His? Let’s put our life under the spotlight and daily washing of God’s Word. By doing so, we won’t take on the scent of the world; we will be a fragrance of Christ.

Revelation is a call to action, but it’s also meant to comfort us. Before the judgments are described, we’re given a vision of our heavenly home. This creates a yearning for the real thing, doesn’t it? We long for Heaven because it’s where we belong!
In this episode, Christi Robillard reminds us that God’s wrath is pure and emanates from His righteous attributes. These terrifying judgments are reserved for those who worship the image of the beast and take his mark. Consider what it will be like for those who will come to faith during the most difficult time in history to be a believer in Jesus Christ. New pressures will exist that we will never have to deal with.
The tribulation saints won’t hear the shout of the Lord and the trumpet of God—but they will quickly realize that every Christian they ever knew is gone. They’ll remember the faith they saw and the faith they rejected. They will remember and be open to God’s message of love, mercy, grace and repentance for the very first time. They will receive it, and they will be our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Christi challenges us to think twice about who we write off today, and consider what’s important. Will others look back and know who we believed? On our best days, we can “amen” arriving in Heaven as a worn-out saint—but it’s our sloppy days that can be the undoing of our testimony. There is too much at stake to live a complacent Christian life.

In this episode from Cathe Laurie, we see how the nations will be deceived during the tribulation. Satan, who fills and directs the Antichrist, will set up a false prophet to motivate people to worship the beast or face the consequences of certain death.
In light of this past year, with so much fear, economic uncertainty, and division, it’s not difficult to imagine how people will flock to someone who appears to unify and put the whole world at rest. But it will give way to outright war and he will take peace from the Earth.
Cathe reminds us to be wise and be aware that areas of deceptive thinking are constantly seeking a foothold in our life. The Bible tells us, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12). At this moment, we need to ask ourselves who and what we are allowing to speak into our life. A steady diet of deceptive influences will shape what you value as beautiful and important. In the days we have, let’s focus on loving and nurturing our family. Let’s be a disciple and help disciple others. Let’s use our gifts and energies to serve the Lord and see the lost saved.

This section of Revelation brings us to the mid-tribulation point, when the seventh trumpet blast signals the beginning of the end for Satan. Heaven rejoices the Lord’s victorious return and Satan rages on earth until the very end—but he is defeated! What does that mean for us, today?
In this episode, we discuss conviction vs. condemnation, and why Satan doesn’t want you to recognize the difference. Drawing lessons from Paul’s experience, Leah Case reminds us that, “Despite all these things, overwhelming victory is our through Christ, who loved us” (Romans 8:37).
What are your “these things” right now? Whatever they are, that’s your microphone to declare victory and overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony.

As things begin to heat up, John is called to participate in events that haven’t yet happened. Up to this time, John has been an observer but now he’s instructed to eat a little book, measure the temple that will be rebuilt, and record what will happen when two witnesses proclaim truth during this turbulent time. God has not washed His hands of creation, He still sends messengers to the world.
Drawing lessons for today, Christi Robillard reminds us that God’s Word is food and truth is more than a moral code to live by. We can no longer be quiet Christians living our faith in safe shadows, we are called to action. This chapter should make us all want to double-down on our efforts to share the gospel.
In a day when we so easily get distracted with people, politicians and policies we abhor, don’t forget your mission and the work of mercy by God. Use your voice but remember that your calling is the message of Jesus Christ. Your calling is not to convert others to your political philosophy but to the Savior of the world. In this episode, there is silence in Heaven as God pauses before releasing His wrath in the form of seven trumpet judgments. Earth and all of humanity will experience severe judgment, yet even in God’s wrath He shows mercy. God will give chance after chance for people to repent.
Shelley reminds us that our prayers are heard in Heaven and every single soul matters to God. “We can’t begin to imagine the mystery of how God uses the prayers of believers, yours and mine, to get His will done on earth. We still have today to let our prayers rise up for those who are held in the enemy’s grip, that God would turn them from the power of darkness to the light of salvation through Jesus.”

In this episode, Sue Mills teaches Revelation 6–7. The judgments begin as the Lamb breaks open the seals.
The whole earth will suffer God’s just and holy wrath, but God will mercifully wait for all who will come to Him. When the fifth seal opens, John sees those who are killed for believing in God during the tribulation. God seals, protects, and commissions 144,000 Jews to preach the gospel as He extends one more chance to be forgiven. Great salvation, great mercy, and great joy will come from the greatest horrors this world has ever seen. But for those who turn their backs and refuse to come under God’s protection, the rest of the story is fear, chaos, judgment, and ultimately death.
As we consider these hard things, let’s make a priority as never before, to pray and share the gospel with friends, loved ones, and all who have yet to come to Jesus.
Sue reminds us that Jesus, our Shepherd, will wipe away every tear. Someday all our sorrow and suffering will be over. Think of it! We will be singing praises and worship at God’s feet!

Session 4: Let Them Worship | Revelation 4–5 with Wendy MacGinnis
In this episode, Wendy draws lessons from how the twenty-four elders in Heaven worship. We glorify God as our Creator, when we put Him first with our time, our thoughts, and our words. Worship puts us in our rightful place, and God in His: High and Exalted.
When we focus on Jesus, the Lion and Lamb, we worship God as Redeemer. Jesus is someone to hold in awe but also to love and trust. More than anything, He is someone to worship as our Redeemer.
In awe and respect, the twenty-four elders laid their crowns at His feet. They gave their rewards back to God. Ask yourself, what am I giving back to Jesus? Do I entrust my family and my earthly treasures to Him? Wendy says, “I tend to give God things in faith, then take them back in worry. If you can relate, join me as I make it a daily discipline to lay my crowns at His feet.”
When we make room for worship, Jesus will allow peace, joy and contentment to overflow our lives. We can never out-give or out-bless Jesus. What we choose to magnify rules our hearts and minds. So let’s worship with abandon!

Jesus wrote letters to seven actual churches in John’s day. In this episode, Trish leads us through five letters with stern warnings from Jesus and challenges us to consider our response. Growing up in the Midwest, Trish recalls tornado warnings and the different ways people might react to sirens that are loud and frightening.
Some don’t want to hear the warning—it’s too scary. Some warn others to listen, but falsely believe they’re immune from danger. Others wisely listen and heed the warning to get to shelter . . . now.
These warnings declare the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. In light of what He knows perfectly, He sounds the warning. All believers are urged to listen. He wants to lead us safely, protecting us from harm and the judgment of sin. He wants to keep us in the loving shelter of His care.
