I might catch some heat about this one, but let's be honest everyone, it's NOT about the music.

It's hasn't been for while.

That doesn't mean that the music shouldn't still be GREAT! Don't get the two confused. It just means that success now in the music industry is more about the way you "present" and "position" yourself than it is about the music.

Self-trust in a general life definition means that trust that you can take care of yourself adequately.

Self-trust in a definition relating to business means that you will do what you say you are going to do!

The issue is that a lot of artists, business owners, people who are running their own business or working from home are thinking that self-trust means.

Trusting that I will WIN at this!

That is not what it means…

If you have that definition you will most certainly never follow through, because you know you can’t win at everything.

Often when we are wanting our happiness to increase we wait for a BIG change, A LOT of new money, a HUGE debt pay down a NEW job etc. But the truth is that true happiness is found in the little things, the details.

That cliche saying that you hear EVERYWHERE is really very true.

Sometimes we forget how really simple it can be to change our mood our feelings and perhaps our entire day by just doing that one little thing that makes you feel happy.

Motivation is not something that will come upon you when you’re feeling just right at the right time! It’s when you’ve decided that you have a good enough reason.

You must find those reasons and connect them to what it is that you’re trying to change.

For a lot of people family is a big reason.

For some it has to be for us, and that’s okay.

What is your reason to initiate, continue, or terminate a behaviour?

If motivation is evading you perhaps you just need to find a better reason or maybe it’s remembering your reason that will change your mind.

So the first part of this myth is that motivation of something you find outside of yourself and the second part is that motivation is a happy lovely energy filled experience that washes over you like diary dust and compels you to act.

When people tell me “I just have no motivation”, it blows my mind a little because those very same people are the people that I can never ever imagine them saving “I have no

Reason.” They do, they have themselves, families loved ones, pets and dreams.

Don’t wait for motivation to show up.

You show up no matter how it feels, because you have reasons, big ones, amazing ones to crush your goals and live a happy life

The act of asking yourself how to do just a little better each time will eventually see your bar raised so high that you are the one to follow. Often we get too focused on the big goal that we are chasing and forget that if we take the mindset to just raise the bar ever so slightly every single day we can and will achieve new heights, that bar might even surpass our goals in many ways.

Using this technique leaves behind a stable foundation of stepping stones and blocks that create an amazing structure for that bar to rest on.

I remember when I realized for the first time that I needed to do this.

As a coach I am ALL IN - heavily invested in my clients and their experience of pursuing self-development.

I want them to have a transformation.

I want them to nail their goals.

I want to show up BIG for them so they can do the same for themselves.

I want to believe 100% of the time that they can achieve their wildest dreams in their lifetime.

I just can't NEED a result from them in a certain period of time, that will most certainly keep them from shining.

I just REQUIRE them to perform on a timeline for me and my results.

And I teach them to same about their own goals.

There is a difference being being fully invested in your mindset. work ethic and showing up for yourself bigger than ever before and yet still letting go of the desperation and needing it all to work out the way you think it should. The art of learning how to be ALL in and still letting go of the result is an amazing thing.

It's often when my clients learn this that things start magically falling into place.

I heard myself say it over and over and over again in the last 15 years. "I'll sleep when I'm dead".

What was I thinking?

I'm an insomniac at the best of times, I probably won't even rest when I'm dead, let's be serious.

I have however been more restful since being forced into a routine that haven't had for last 15 years or more.

Early to bed, lots of time to get to sleep and a decent amount of actual sleep. Some days I even felt like a new person.

See. You don't actually realize you're tired until one day you sleep really really well, and you wake up  with energy and think "this is what I've been missing!".

This podcast is my reminder to you all to use the natural techniques you already know about to increase the quality of your sleep.

Sleep is important, physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Truth Bomb: Everyone has goals! Knowing what your goals are does not make you ahead of the game.
All of the artists that I talk to and work with already have goals, many have already written them down.

So what separates the high achievers from those whose goals remain unachieved?

The way they go about those goals.

In this podcast I explore the separating factors.

I talk at great depth with my coachees about becoming the person you need to become to achieve your dreams.
This process involves becoming the version of YOU that is capable of those things.
Now you already are that person, but you may be indulging in behaviors that are programmed from old thoughts, beliefs and habits that are getting in the way.

So today I want to give you my take on “Becoming You” and what I mean by that and why it’s a huge part of the journey.

A lot of the time when I talk to an artist about what they want to achieve those things are easy for them to dream.

A big fan base, a hit song, a certain amount of income, a healthy body and mind, and a secure future for their kids, the list goes on.

Ultimately we pretty much know what we want to achieve in life.

And most of the time we can imagine that life.

We can visualize a day in that life.

What your house looks like, even what you feel like in that house.

Maybe you’re hosting a get together because you have the space and the budget to do that.

Maybe you’re standing in the kitchen of your dreams or on that acreage or driving that car you’ve always wanted and that’s something that comes fairly easily is that ability to put yourself in that place even in that feeling and that’s a powerful exercise in itself.

But there is another step that is often a little harder that it perhaps the most important step and that is not only what are you doing and how you feel but who are YOU in that environment in that moment in that world.

Getting your desired results involved fully becoming the YOU that can get there.

Who is that person? Who is the version of YOU that is that person who has been able to achieve those things?

I have my clients do these exercises and talk about this regularly.

So as you go into 2022 and it’s getting closer and closer to that time, and you start setting goals to achieve and visualizing those goals.

You need to take that one step further and ask yourself a whole bunch of questions surrounding the one question “Who Do I Need to Become To Achieve These Goals.”

So today I have challenged myself with this question.

What if I was suddenly told that I only had one session left with every person I coach, and that session had to be the same content for everyone, what would that session be about?

What would I make sure to go over with such clarity that they would never forget that lesson and be able to use it for many many years to come.

This answer is the triangle of possibilities...

During my time as a coach it has become glaringly obvious to me that there are pieces of the puzzle that music business creatives tend to have in place in order to reach certain income levels.

There is a massive correlation between how you go about your day and what you spend your time and money on and what the results are.

Some still think it's purely luck , right time, right place at work. I know that if you don't have these pieces in place you won't even know when you're in the right place.

One of the things that will separate you from someone else is your ability to conquer procrastination. A lot of people are afflicted with procrastination because it comes in many different forms and I think that people tend to look at procrastination and label themselves or others as being lazy or unmotivated.
But in reality procrastination is a habitual reaction to overwhelm, fear, stress and even self-confidence or self-esteem issues.

And so labelling it with laziness is truly not helpful at all, and it doesn’t help to build confidence in yourself or others in order to overcome.

I have helped many people overcome procrastination and I was interested to discover that it does in fact come in many forms for many different reasons and the effect of overcoming it is huge.

A lot of times in coaching I talk about what to do, methods, techniques, creation of new things, like new thoughts and adding new habits to your routine. But sometimes new results can come from not doing things as well.
So I thought about the top things that I see others doing, my clients and myself and decided to put them in a podcast today just in case you need to remember to quit doing them.

Some of them will be easier to quit than others.

#1 - Quit comparing yourself to others

#2 - Quit degrading yourself

#3 - Quit being around people who make you feel less

#4 - Quit being around highly negative people

#5 - Stop drinking so much

#6 - Stop telling yourself you should have done better

#7 - Quit saying “I don’t have time”

#8 - Quit saying “I don’t have the money.”

#9 - Quit quitting so early!

#10 - Quit letting your EGO talk

Hey Everyone!

Wow episode 132 I’m really proud of this little podcast and that I’ve been able to bring you some valuable info, suggestions, techniques straight from my coaching vault to you.

Today I want to talk about something that I help Artists deal with a lot due to the nature of what we do. Maybe things have been a little slower not as fast paced since march 2020, but now things are starting up again and that transition is really hard because we are going at a pace that we need to get used to again, or do we?

I was very guilty of going at a pace for many many years that was a little over the top, I found that I was a person who could sleep just a few hours a night and still function well, still get all the things done and in some respects I maybe even got so used to that pace, that I didn’t know how to be productive unless I was going going going all the time, pulling all nighters and trying to hit challenging deadlines.

One of the biggest challenges for artists is maintaining good mental health. And there are many pieces to the puzzle for an artist or anyone for that matter to maintain good mental health.
And one of those pieces to the puzzle is maintaining good energy and for the purpose of this podcast by energy I mean “good vibes type of energy” not necessarily physical energy however when you do get your positive thoughts and vibe energy into the positive and it stays there for longer and longer periods, your physical energy will increase as well as a result of that.

So one of the biggest ways in this industry to better your good energy is to look at the 5-10 that you spend a majority of your time with. Now caution to this because there are also people who have strong negative energy that maybe you don’t even spend that much time with but have a very large affect on you and your mood, your beliefs, your thought processes.

Recently I”ve become aware of something called “Success Paradox”.

Because I’ve seen it in action. I help people, mainly artists right now build success in all corners of their lives.

I’m all about success, success in your self-love, self-development, relationships, career, health, finances, family and friends. That’s really what I strive for, for all of my clients.

And many of them do have success, in many different ways.

Part of striving for success, means having a well defined version of what is success is for you!

Aligning your version of success and what you are currently measuring your success on is a VERY important part of the process.

I can tell all of my clients that self-talk is important, they know that! That’s not a secret. But how do you go on a journey of self-discovery to reveal what your self-talk is and how to change it? That’s the question.

Not whether negative self-talk is bad for you and vice versa.

It’s how to change it!

First you must listen, you must become quiet enough to listen and often that unfiltered quiet time comes in the first 5 mins of the day. In 5 mins you can have hundreds of thoughts, or the same thoughts repeating hundreds of times. It’s astounding.

I get asked all the time about “who to trust in the music business”.

And I’ve said this many times before but today I”m going to dedicate an episode to it because I think it’s that important.

No matter what you do from here on out.

The most important person to trust is yourself!

I’ve talked before about coaching and how I’ve had clients tell me that initially they were doing the coaching exercises and following through with showing up every week so as to not disappoint me.

And then there sort of becomes a shift where they started showing up so as to not disappoint themselves. This is a very very important mindset shift.

The reason being is that if you don’t have this mindset and operate in this mindset the easiest person to disappoint is yourself.

But it often comes with the BIGGEST consequences.

You don’t stick to your plans, you don’t follow through, you don’t have any self-trust, your self-esteem often falls away and there is a cycle of self-deterioration.

Self-Trust is KEY!

Don’t let that 1 person in the room who criticizes you or gives you bad vibes, occupy one more minute of space in your brain!

Remember that you are taking away from the amazing positive energy that so many other people are giving you and trying to give you by being too caught up and affected by the 1 person who doesn’t appreciate what you’ve done.

Don’t do yourself a disservice and those who really are supporting you, it’s not worth it.

There is feedback that is worthy and you should listen to in order to better yourself and then there is feedback that is just downright negative and attempts to bring you down.

That 1 person does not and should not have the effect on you that they might be having right now.

I give you permission to let any negative energy from that 1 person go and leave it behind.

I was thinking how incredibly difficult it is for different personalities to co-exist in the industry. A lot of musicians are extremely introverted by nature some are not at all. And those that aren’t find it a bit easier to do the public stuff for sure. Those that are introverted like me often struggle hard with this.

One of the things that I hear from people a lot is that it’s not the music, the creation of the music or getting that done etc. It’s dealing with the people, the personalities. So I wanted to talk to those of you who are more introverted and perhaps have trouble asserting yourself sometimes and give you some guidelines or as I call them “rules of engagement for the music business”. These have helped me over time immensely.

  1. Always Ask For What You Need

  2. If have to be pushy - BE KIND!

  3. Have Humble Confidence

How many times have you heard the phrase “Just don’t take it personal!” it’s business not personal, you need to have a thick skin!

And you’re left feeling pretty gutted and like all of what was just said was very personal and maybe even hurtful.

What if I told you that I have a different way of breaking the idea of not taking anything personal down so that it emotionally makes sense to you and it’s something that you can actually constructively use to move on quickly past the moments in our careers where things hurt and feel pretty personal.

Music is one of those chosen career paths where everything is highly personal. People are judging your looks, your voice, your skills, your personality, how can it not get personal.

Sorry but we’re not playing your song because well, it’s just not good enough! Ugh! Personal right.

So a lot of well meaning mentors, industry people will simply tell you - ahhhh, shake it off, not everyone is going to like you, you’ve gotta have thick skin if you want to be in this business. But they offer nothing extra on how to actually shake it off, and how to build emotional IQ and emotional skills to be resilient to that. So what ends up happening and you may be here and feeling this right now, if so stay tuned...

Have you ever created a goal and thought it’s just too big to be possible for me?

I often find that people will set goals that are very doable.

Did you know that many goals are actually easier to hit than we think they are to accomplish?

The actual issue is that we think they are too big in the first place.

I find that the dream goals are the ones that people think are way too big.

But they are not! They are all possible!

Over the course of my coaching which is coming up on almost 4 years that I’ve been coaching other artists. I’ve used a lot of different techniques to help artists increase their income.

Some I’ve taken from $0 to a full-time income - over $60 in a short period of time.

Some have doubled their income and good income more than full-time income.

All of those people once they got there said “That part was actually easier than I thought it was going to be.” It was the years of stressing and feeling stuck before that, that was the hardest, it was the trying to force things to happen and being so wound up in it emotionally the wrong way that was hard.

Many times we think to make a big impact on our results you need to start BIG new things, and create huge projects, start fresh and scrap everything you’re currently doing. But that’s not how these people have found success.

Listen in to found out how...!

In this episode I want to address absolutely everyone’s biggest challenge!

There is no one that doesn’t have this as their single biggest challenge.

And I was talking to a friend a few days ago about how easily people will spend large amounts of money on production and other items without ever having addressed themselves.

And even people who seem to talk about it and know that what their single biggest challenge is.

Once you know what your biggest challenge is and you harness it becomes your biggest advantage!

Everyone in this business is trying for their advantage, get infront of the right people, make the best music, get it heard on radio, get it synced to a big show, get in with the right groups of people.

And yet very few of you are harnessing and addressing your single biggest challenge in the whole process and that’s YOU!

I want you to consider for a moment that all of your results in life can be traced back to habits. Personal and Professional habits.

If that is true then your results can change by changing your habits, that’s the good news.

There are so many ways to create new habits and ditch the old ones but today I want to talk about ONE particular technique that is super helpful when it comes to adding a new habit to your life and also bringing awareness to habits that aren’t serving you and that is called “Habit Stacking”.

Being the leader of the business, knowing where income streams are and how to access them beyond the basic understanding of  live performance merchandise is important.

It’s not as complicated as you might think.

All of us get into the music business because of our passion for music, and what it has brought to us and what it brings to the world. But the problem is that you soon figure out that you are spending more time on the admin or business than you are on the music. This is one of the critical questions that I feel dive into with my clients.

What you currently have is what you thought you could achieve at some point in the past.

So it makes sense that if you aren't where you want to be, that you starting thinking, talking and mapping for success surrounding what it is that you REALLY want.

What happens when I first ask this question to Musicians, they tend to give the "moral" or "expected" answer.

"I just want to make enough money to live, feed my family."

Either because it's what they think they can achieve or that they SHOULD only achieve.

However they don't REALLY want that, they don't want to live pay check to pay check, what they REALLY want is to be abundant so they help other people and pay it forward.

I’m going to give you what I believe to be the top 3 reasons why artists people please, maybe you’ll hear something familiar in one of them and then I'm going to talk about my tips and ways that you can stop people pleasing from today onwards.

And also my 2 step cardinal rule for people pleasers when it comes to making any decision.

  1. You Are Following Someone Else’s Idea Of Success
  2. You Are Hyper Worried About What Everyone Else Thinks
  3. You Think You Won’t Have Any Other Opportunities

How do we as Artists stop doing this?

  1. Watch and Listen to your decisions, is there any element of people pleasing?

  2. Get Specific about who and why you are pleasing mostly

  3. Does this fit your vision?

"Your clear vision of success is where the head meets the heart." - Jo

3 Step - Cardinal Rule for People Pleasers

  1. If you think you might be people pleasing a lot, I have a rule where I tell my clients “do not to make any decision on the spot.” Take the next 24-48 hrs to decide....HOWEVER
  2. In that 24-48 hours lay it out in a way that FEAR doesn’t come into it. "I don’t have enough money, I don’t have enough time & What if it doesn’t work"...those are all FEAR based. I want this decision to come from a place of abundance not lack.
  3. Is this part of my vision? - Yes or No!?!

Your clear vision of success is not the same as any one else, I can assure you that after having coached dozens of artists, songwriters and musicians through this process, no two visions are exactly the same and for that reason your plan shouldn't be the same as the next person. Your path to success certainly won't be.

In my program, we first discover what you REALLY want from life and from your music career, and what you want to GIVE BACK!

We do this without worrying about what you THINK you can achieve.

Once you have a really clear vision (minus the noise) of what you want, you can then map out a clear direction, a focus, and a plan.
You can then make decisions easily and effectively using that direction and that plan as guideposts.

Nothing is a mystery from then on.

Stop chasing the latest greatest trend, thing or idea, unless it fits squarely into your picture of what you really want.

If you don't have a picture of what you really want, book a discovery call with me today to figure it out.

I love the fact that my human brain can consciously accept or reject any idea that I want to and this is something that I now try to practice daily.

Even my own ideas that I’ve held onto for a while.

Particularly ideas about myself, my place in the world, my industry, my career, my voice, my music and my self-worth.

Particularly those ideas is where it becomes most powerful.

Many people go along in life arbitrarily accepting what is given to them, feed to them, and told to them as if it’s all truth.

I want you to ask yourself when is the last time that you had a chance to consciously decide whether or not to accept or reject an idea about yourself?

Kevin Breuner is the SVP of Marketing at CD Baby and has been with CD Baby for 15 years. In that time he's seen a mountain of change, with technologies, platforms, and marketing strategies that Indie Artists can leverage to become sustainable in the industry.

I recently had the chance to sit down with him to discuss how his own super successful indie band "Small Town Poets" have navigated their way through the years and how they grew their following by using grass roots marketing methods and connecting with fans but also integrating with the newest technologies along the way. Interestingly even with all of these new technologies much of the foundations of these methods are still relevant today.

He also talks about understanding and educating yourself on how today's platforms that provide a stage for indie artists actually work.

  • Youtube still being the #1 streaming platform.
  • A consistent pattern of release on Spotify.
    • radio versions, live versions, acoustic versions, and covers all factor into the picture.
    • I learned that even the Beatles did cover, lots of covers!
  • Having a goal to be Tik Tok famous is great but also understand how the platform works and where your demographic is located in the social world.
  • How failing is inevitable and necessary, and those who get where they want to go just need to take failure on board as a part of the landscape.

In all the interviews I've done I don't think I have encountered a more upbeat, energetic and soul connected person in the industry.

Sheree started Global Songwriters Connection back in 2013 and has been helping songwriters (& artist/writers) polish their songs, connect with people who will raise the bar and land publishing deals ever since then.

Located in the hub of it all, in Nashville, Sheree has long been connected to the writing and music world, raised by two successful songwriters and holding her own successful career in music, she turned her knowledge, passion and connection into an incredibly valuable organization for writers, and artist/writers to be involved with. Every great athlete has had a number of coaches along the way.

We in the music business are just starting to understand the value of having a great coach or many coaches along the way also.

Creating income in the music business isn't as difficult as you may think, the challenges are everything that comes along with it.

The mental game, the ability to persevere, fall, fail, be judged, be strong, be authentic, believe in yourself.

These are the skills that I help my client build that get them to success in a balanced and healthy way.

Everyone needs someone to believe in them and hold that belief on the days when things are difficult.

Over thinking and Under Acting go together like two old friends!

Did you know that it takes so much more physical energy to be in a constant state of thinking and stressing about things and totally over thinking it?

Because I talk about thoughts and thinking A LOT I thought it was time to talk about DOING and not over thinking and the balance between.

Something that I hear myself and others saying a lot is “I totally know that I”m over thinking this…”

And sometimes it’s a struggle because it might be a BIG decision, and it might feel like you must make the correct decision like moving or a new company or a new job.

You feel like if you make the wrong decision it will be really bad, but you get stuck thinking on it and after a while it starts to feel like you don’t know what even a good decision is because you are totally now in a stress cycle of over thinking.

I see people bounce back and forth between decisions a lot, they make one and then they hear one piece of feedback and it changes their decision and they start to over think it again.

So under doing goes hand in hand with over thinking because if you are over thinking something you’re definitely not doing or acting on it. So it makes sense that these two things work together to keep you stuck.

I walk you through how to move past over thinking by taking action in this podcast.

Perfectionism is not about being perfect at all.

At its core perfectionism is about the fear of just ONE thing and one thing alone, and that is...

"The Fear of Not Being Good Enough"

The good news is that you can rid yourself of perfectionism and its destructive force in your life and career.

Perfectionism and anxiety and depression are highly connected and I'm committed to helping you move past it and overcome it.

Perfectionism and progress don't go together!

Are you wearing your perfectionism on your sleeve almost like a badge of honour and can you be brave enough to let go of it?

I walk you through some powerful questions for your own awareness when it comes to overcoming your perfectionism.

Who do you want to become?

Can you learn to fail well?

You can HAVE a failure and not BE a failure!

A failure is just an event, not a personality trait.

Those are 2 different things.

In an industry where no one is looking over your shoulder most days to see what you're working on and how you're working on it there is nothing more important than being highly accountable, to yourself!

Coaching and communities work because of many reasons, awareness, motivation and also accountability is high on that list of reasons.

But the real magic is when you start showing up for yourself!

That's when progress is made, results roll in and confidence soars!

In this podcast I talk through the process of creating and accountability at first with others and then moving that accountability to yourself and how empowering that moment is.

The fear of failure, fear of success and focusing too hard on the results can be some of the major reasons why we have a hard time following through projects, plans and ideas.

The good news is that you can become a person who follows through consistently and this could be the KEY to your success, if not the KEY it is a MAJOR deciding factor in how your future will play out.

Imagine starting a project, investing thousands of dollars into it and right at the last minute pulling the pin on it before it even gets off the ground? I did that!!! That's how great my fear of failure was if I turn the clock back 15 years.

I was a exceptionally great at not following through with ideas, projects and plans in the past.

It took time, awareness, taking action, tons of failing and a still to this day a constant conversation with myself to be strong, courageous and incredibly bold in taking on projects that I'm not ready to.

I recently sat down with a cup of tea and re-watched "The Secret". I have watched and read it multiple times since it came out back in 2006 but I wanted to see after all of my own training, and experience coaching others how differently the message with hit me.

I remember thinking when I first watched it how many people would get the erroneous message that you just force positive thinking or obsess about the lottery you'll eventually win it.

Of course that's not the entire message of the Secret, but you only get the messages you're ready to hear and open to at the time of watching or reading something.

I often go back and re-read books that impacted me in the past to see what has shifted inside of me.

I connected with one concept this time around that I didn't necessarily connect with or really even understand 14 years ago.

And that is the idea that "The Universe Loves Speed".

I have come to experience this first hand, and coach others to use this concept and idea and see it work wonders for their results also.

What does this mean? "The Universe Loves Speed."

It doesn't mean rushing in without a clue, it doesn't mean risking all and everything for that last ditch effort.

Tune in for more information on how this concept can change what you're currently doing in your life and how you're executing ideas or not or waiting far too long to do so!

IT WORKED! And it can work for you.

Each year we set goals, we get pumped when this calendar clicks over to a new year. We all need that motivation to feel refreshed, renewed and ready to tackle a new year. But the truth is that you can't tackle that new year with the same habits, thoughts and processes you tackled the last year or you'll just get the same results.

In this podcast I ask 3 very important questions for you to answer before you tackle your new goals.

These questions are designed to help you pay tribute to the foundations you've already built that serve you well, to grow personally and professionally into your new goals, and to subtract some old habits, thoughts and processes that aren't serving you and will most certainly keep you stuck if you don't get rid of them. Sometimes it's not just what you're willing to do that will get you to your next step it's what you're NOT wiling to do any longer that brings the most change.

Over the years I've had to face failure and ask myself if I was willing to FAIL regularly in order to become successful.

In this episode I look back at three FANF*CKING-TASTIC FAILURES that have helped to shape who I am today.

Failing is good if you're in a GROWTH mindset when it happens you will always see the lesson and the opportunity that comes from it.

If you're in a FIXED mindset when it happens you'll see it has a shameful event that you should have done better with.

I outline my 3 fantastic failures and how my thinking surrounding failing changed over time to bring about a growth mindset.

I no longer fear failure, Fear is my friend. I let it sit in the passenger seat, I thank it for it's concern and then push forward.

This episode is WHERE IT IS AT!

If you want to figure out what is standing in the way of you following through with and executing on the worthy ideas and how to even decide whether an idea is worthy of execution or not, you are in the right place.

Almost 100% of ideas fail to be executed due to a few simple reasons.

  1. The REWARD was not worth the RISK being taken at the time.

This will almost always take out of the game before you even begin. If the risk is highly financial and you aren't willing to risk it now, move on until you find an idea that doesn't risk as much.

If the risk is personal and you aren't willing to pick yourself up again if you fail, then move onto an idea that isn't as risky with your emotions and person until you've strengthened that part of who you are.

  1. Fear - You let fear decide whether you should continue forward.

If you've done the risk/reward in step 1. Then fear is just being a jerk and making you feel like you're standing a cliff and jumping off without a soft landing. Fear has a way of doing that, it makes it feel SO real to you in your emotional mind that big bad things will happen if you fail. The truth is whether you fail or not is irrelevant. The success is the complete follow through no matter what the outcome is.

Take your idea to execution TODAY! There is no idea big or small not worth considering and most are worthy of execution.

If you want be to around like minded people who have the same dreams as you, come and join our FB community today.

Friends! I have hesitated to publish this, but I think it’s time I share this with you all. I worried about overwhelming everyone as I felt we were already suffering covid fatigue because of the amount of time it’s been in our lives.

On Nov 2nd we received the news that my husband had tested positive for COVID-19. We were not surprised when the result finally came as he was sick, and I was already experiencing heavy symptoms. In the following days myself and our two kids also tested positive and all four of us were sick with varying degrees of symptoms ranging from mild to medium, we are all extremely healthy with no underlying conditions. It still hit us pretty hard and all at once. I can’t begin to describe to you some of the fear that my husband and I felt knowing that if one of us worsened or one of our girls had to be hospitalised there would be nothing we could do except fight through our own sickness at the same time and hope for the best. Not being able to sit beside your sick child because you yourself are knocked out is horrible and not what we are used to.

As of today, I still have TOTAL loss of smell and taste and Jeff has thankfully recently been cleared with chest x-rays and heart tests that came back in his favour as he has had lingering breathing and heart racing symptoms which are now starting to improve. The girls are doing well although Jade also still has partial smell and taste loss.

On Nov 12th I decided to interview my entire family while we were still going through COVID, I finally published it today. I also talk about the bizarre symptom that I haven’t told many about that I had at the beginning of my journey that caused me a lot of pain - not sure if I’ll post pics of that one.

I want you all to know that our message is clear: With the rising numbers world-wide you may have already contracted COVID or been identified as a close contact to someone who has, if you’re lucky you may have so far escaped it personally. No matter what your situation has been or what your beliefs are on the subject, please be kind. Understand that many people won’t have the outcome we had. Many have already lost loved ones, and many will suffer. Do the right thing, isolate when you are required to, get tested, and stay home if you are sick.

Please use the amazing technology we have to check in on your loved ones and friends instead of arguing with people online who have the polar opposite view to you.

There was a moment during our COVID journey where I almost lost faith in humanity. I don’t want to lose faith in my community, friends and family because I love you all too much for that.

I am hoping that sharing our story will help you to not feel alone, but instead feel supported and loved. Whether you have been directly affected by a COVID diagnosis or secondarily by the downfall of economy or loneliness of isolation we hear and love you all. I completely understand that this is a complex situation, but division will not help us to defeat it.

Thank you to those who reached out and offered your help, love and support while we journeyed through this. I hope we all continue to do that for each other as this journey is far from over anytime soon.

When we were all diagnosed the numbers in Alberta were almost 4 times smaller than they are today. And that was only 4 weeks ago.

We Love You All

xoxo The Janzen’s

Leading up to March 2020, Saskatchewan Artist Justin LaBrash was full steam ahead on his goals, and productivity.

He had gotten himself booked into a few new and bigger festivals than he had ever played before, negotiated a couple of different endorsement/sponsorship deals and summer 2020 was looking spectacular on the books.

Then everything changed, but one thing that remained the same was Justin's mindset and resolve to finding solutions instead of focusing on roadblocks.

He quickly reset, refocused his goals for the new climate and wound up organizing and playing 13 Drive-in shows across his home province here in Canada.

During this time he also produced an acoustic album from his own home that he released digitally and also put together the most spectacular music video to his newest single - "Miles Ago". Oh and I forgot to mention that he started up his farming operations again which had been playing second fiddle to his music career pre covid.

There is no stopping this guy, he's a solution finder and an entrepreneur at heart that makes him an incredible musician and farmer in today's climate.

It’s no longer just about the music!

It hasn’t been for awhile, COVID aside.

COVID has just made it blatantly clear that live performance alone has been the business model that many of us relied on for so long never thinking about the possibility that all our venues could be shut down.

For as long as I can remember this had been my business model.

Lucky for me I saw before COVID that even if that is your model, as you get older in this industry it’s no longer sustainable. Playing 6 nights a week, long haul 5 hours gigs are great for the pocket book, but terrible for your body, mind and life balance eventually. Ask anyone who has done that gig long term as I did.

So...what is the answer then? If we can no longer rely on live performance to bring the bulk of the money.

If you are lucky enough to get your single on satellite radio you will enjoy a nice Sound exchange royalty check as many have this past few years.

But what if that dries up? What then?

There is only one answer and that is “Multiple Streams of Diversified Income.”

So what does that mean for you personally?

And how do you move to that model if you've been using the old model for so long now?

Also if you’re just starting out, build your foundational business blocks now, it's SO worth it.

Having a growth mindset is much more than just thinking positive.

It's becoming aware of many different facets of your personality, patterning and belief systems.

One of the techniques that has been incredibly helpful to the people that I have coached is the ability to assess whether they are being more reactionary rather than responsive in situations.

Changing this one thing, becoming really aware of whether you are reacting or responding in the moment has helped many people change their results in life as well as improve their personal relationships.

As a full-time Musician, and now coach to Musicians I was constantly waiting for that one big break! The one thing that would turn it all around and I’d be cruising down easystreet. The money would be rolling in and I wouldn’t have to worry about anything anymore!

Wrong! No matter how hard I worked or how great my songs were that never happened. I waited for the BIG connection to connect me. I worked and worked and worked and yet under the surface I don’t think I ever learned how to believe that I was that miracle I’d been waiting for all along. Once that happened everything changed. I first learned to hack my own brain during my daily driving routines which took up hours of my day in between my own events and my kids activities.

The biggest reason that I became a coach for other Musicians is that many of us still don’t know that the big kahuna we’ve been waiting for is actually us!

In this episode, I talk about how I took control of my own thoughts and self-talk and continue to on a daily basis

I have noticed that so many in the music industry are losing their passion and fight on how to survive and I wanted to create something to help them do that. So today I’m going to go in much more detail and tell you about the online community I’ve created and am in the process of building and why I think it’s so vital for us all to belong to communities like this and really step up and get involved in them.

Community has been decimated by coronavirus, physical community, so online community is where it has to be for us all right now and beyond. Think of the opportunities to connect with people from all over the world.

I created the Meant4Music Community on FB. I would like to address the FB haters, I’m with you, I totally understand the irresponsible ways that FB is used and how addicting, manipulating it can be. That is why I decided if I was going to create something new on the platform it was going to be for the better of the community. I have been a part and continue to be a part of many communities of FB that have helped me move forward in many ways, that’s why I know it works and can work if you step up and become an active part of it.

I currently have a number of members in my community that I met in other FB Communities for music, who I have hired and collaborated with and continue to work with who are doing excellent work and excellent projects.

If you’re currently setting goals or have previously set goals, make sure to add this one to the list.

In this episode I share the "Awesome Unexpected Goal" with you that I ask everyone I work with to consider.

I find that this mentally opens you up to possibilities, subconsciously so that when unexpected opportunities present themselves you are more likely to be courageous enough to accept them, even if they aren’t part of plan. If you are holding on SO very tight to achieving only the goals that you have set, that can actually create a fixed mentality. A kind of desperation and mindset stuck in lack and limitation that is hidden in your very well intentioned goals.

Plans and goals are made to be changed and flexible. The best part about making a plan is that it gets you working on something that is going in the general direction of your vision.

As we’ve all seen this year, everyone’s life plans and music and career plans changed in an instant! We all had to be flexible, courageous try new things, let go of goals we had set and worked hard towards already. So covid gave us all the quick MBA in perseverance, flexibility and courage that’s for sure.

So let me ask you this, when you last set your goals did you leave room for the unexpected and awesome to happen?

It's time to open yourself to the possibilities that you haven't even thought about yet and they are so sweet!

Now if you’re like me, I don’t really enjoy “networking”. I find it a bit forced and uncomfortable so I’ve used both these techniques because this is something that I struggled with, in fact in the early days of my trying to be in the music business I would get great anxiety over going to industry events that were designed for networking.

I don’t consider myself extroverted at all, I tend to fade into the crowd and not want to be seen unless I”m on stage that’s a whole different story. I love being on stage.

Don’t feel bad if that describes how you feel, many artists actually feel that way, not all, but many do. So we need some ways to get better at this because you do need to create connections in this business.

Many opportunities in the Music business are about who you know or are connected to.

In this episode I’m going to give you 2 of my most effective techniques that I use and I have helped others use to widen their networks, increase their connections both online and offline.

Out of the gate the biggest piece of advice I can give is for live events, both industry and social, also when you’re playing a gig and you are socializing with a crowd big or small.

1. Turning Small Talk into a Connection

2. Become a Connector

I have recently gone deeper into these in my monthly program. If you're interested in checking out my monthly coaching program, here is the link.

It is my belief that one of the most valuable things that you posses is your time, and the way that you use your time is crucial to your success.

So how can we make sure and be really conscious that we are using one of our most valuable resources effectively & efficiently?

All of the time you are spending on your music business will fit into one of the following 4 categories.

  1. Doing Actions
  2. Thinking Actions
  3. Learning Actions
  4. No Actions

If you are spending more time in the last 3 it's time to free yourself of time wastage.

Stop judging yourself and start taking steps towards change.
Let's do this...

But it's not that easy to do alone. First you have to call yourself on your own BS and figure out what is actually out of your own comfort zone. Then you have to have ask yourself to work out side of it. PLAN for it, FOLLOW THROUGH with the act of doing it and then ask only for the result of working through the FEAR.

In the finance world they say "Follow the Money", the my coaching world I say "Follow the Fear", that's where the the money is...

Don't try to be fearless this week, be afraid and do that sh*t anyway. That's the only way to get it done and realize that you are not going to die in the process. But you are going to get results you've never gotten before.

I believe that boundaries are a way of saying "I love you" to yourself.
They are often misunderstood, and usually misused!
Once you realize how to approach an implement boundaries and actually adult in life many things change and will change.

  1. Stress is reduced
  2. Relationships are increased
  3. Your relationship with yourself will increased positively

There are two major types of boundaries, ones that you have for other people and ones that you have for yourself.

In this podcast I take you through the steps to positively implement a boundary.

I am so happy and grateful to have had this guy in my life for more than 20 years now.

This podcast is just me speaking from the heart about my marriage and the ways that we have been able to get through so much together and they ways we have failed and supported each other in our failing and winning. Both are super important.

I have NO idea how to give marital advice, I think I lucked out by finding my soul mate, I think he lucked out a little too to find his.

I'm gonna keep on loving him, and I know that the key to being able to do that is loving me first.

Keep on loving the ones you're with...

If you want to make HUGE changes in your life, start with small daily habits!

All the gurus say this, all the successful online entrepreneurs.

I used to be the Queen of Starting and not finishing, and therefore never having TRUE daily habits that were helping me move forward in eventual leaps and bounds.

FAST FORWARD to now...no problem, my daily habits are ingrained and new ones aren't an issue because I understand why I wasn't doing them before, and I understand how to create new ones that will stick.

Through this process I have changed my life!

  1. Set yourself up for success

  2. Create a way to follow through

  3. Track your progress, don't break the chain

  4. Work on it until you don't have to think about it anymore

Hey Guys! Did you know that….you can be happy, insanely happy with your life and not satisfied, which means you can build a bigger better future. And I think that it might be a key mindset for many of you that are struggling with areas of your life, circumstances or situations that you are not able to be grateful or thankful for.

You cannot go from a state of feeling pissed off about your current situation and feeling angry about it and then thinking, screw this crappy existence I want better, I deserve better therefore I”m just going to continue to hate and be unhappy with what I currently have and want something different.

That doesn’t work.

The way that you become a master at practicing gratitude and attracting better things to your life is to first become fully happy with your current life.

This is why I say it’s important to understand that you need to find happiness now, but that doesn’t mean you need to be satisfied.

This is the work I do with my clients and members that matters for everyone long term in all areas of their lives.

Some of us think that if we settle for happiness than we won’t work for better.

If you can be grateful for the award you didn’t nominated for...you can reach anything. If you can be happy for someone else’s successes, if you can be grateful for your failures or circumstances for showing up to show you something or teach you something, then you can reach anything.

If you continue to go along in a state of anger, jealousy, revenge, and that is the frequency you are vibrating on while trying to get that future vision you will just create more anger and jealousy in your life.

This is often a defining moment when people I coach learn this and being to practice gratitude differently.

Recently I used the saying "Play the Long Game" with a client over email.

And they came back to me and asked “what do you actually mean by that”?

And I answered briefly with something like “I mean your music career is a marathon not a sprint.” But if you know mean when someone questions, I usually take that and deep dive into at some point.

So let's unpack it shall we?

A successful career in Music is marketed as though it’s an overnight success to the general public, but it's NOT!.

It's absolutely a 10 year grind it out, “playing the long game” world. That’s why I say it probably a lot now I’m aware of it.

So if you’re feeling impatient right now. Let me ask you are you willing to play the long game, both mentally and physically.

Because my friends I know people in this industry who are still physically playing the game but they checked out mentally a while ago already.

Are there times when you’re playing the long game and other times when you’re like - Well I thought all the good thoughts I could this week and nothing happened? Or I worked real hard this past few days and nothing! It’s not working! If that’s you right now. Put yourself to the test.

Ask yourself for SURE if you are willing to stay in this long enough to win.

In our business it’s really interesting that people outside of the business maybe don’t have a clue how much energy we expend when we are onstage in particular, and even writing and creating is incredibly taxing some days.

And this is a topic that I don’t think I have ever talked about on the podcast and yet I spend quite a lot of time on it myself for my own health and energy and also with my one on one clients.

Overall ability to succeed in the Music Business takes, both mind and body health and the two really go hand in hand. A lot of the techniques, and tools I use with my clients are geared towards gaining direction, reducing stress and daily habits that serve you in a very positive way.

Some of my clients even begin to exercise more, reduce or quit drinking and lose weight as a result of the mental work we do! Which is SO interesting because it’s not part of what I do, I don’t have a weight loss or quit drinking program. I have a program that takes what your challenges are and tailors some solutions to your needs.

And if someone is confused, frustrated, stressed about situations, money, family, career, relationships they don’t sleep well, they don’t eat well and they often feel constantly tired and down. Of course you know it’s a vicious cycle of events. So when we work on thoughts, understanding them, changing them, when we create a direction and purpose other things improve also that you’re not even looking at directly. You sleep better, you take time to go for a walk, maybe get back to the gym or eat better. Maybe drink less because you’re no longer looking at drinking or eating or sleeping as our only release or refuge from stress.

Health and Energy can also be improved first physically, there is no right or wrong way to do it. However when people say that it’s a mind, and body, holistic approach that works, I agree. Whether the physical or mental comes first doesn’t matter, both compliment each other, but both are needed.

In this podcast learn about the one exercise that I give to all of my one on one clients that allows them to make the connection and understand that their thoughts are what ultimately creates more physical and mental energy.

It's not enough to realize that your thoughts and beliefs are holding you back, you now have to change them!
But how do you do that when those around you have the same or even worse limiting beliefs that you?

It can be VERY confronting once you realize that your thoughts are keeping you limited, it can be EVEN more confronting when you begin to try to change them and realize that your support system and social circles are reinforcing those limiting beliefs on a regular basis.

It can even feel very isolating to try to be different, that's where a coach comes in. Most people get to that point and stop changing their thoughts, conform back to the social standard and beliefs that keep them friendly and safe to others. And therefore they never become the person that can reach great heights, staying small feels friendlier and easier. How many of you have given up drinking even for a short period of time just because you wanted to not because your a raging alcoholic and yet still have to be completely uncomfortable around your social circle who are all wondering why you gave it up and what's wrong with you. Some even make comments like "I liked you better when you were drinking." Their belief system is that you MUST have a problem to want to give up alcohol, they hold true to their own beliefs and want to be comforted by agreeable people. Who think and feel the same way.

You don't necessarily have to get rid of those people, however you will never change your beliefs if you don't learn how to reject their ideas and still be tolerant of them. Having the tools to know how to handle those situations is crucial to your changing success.

Having a coach is the reason that people overcome their old patterns and create new belief systems.

Having someone in front of you on a regular basis for a prolonged period of time showing you your thoughts and helping you believe new ones WORKS!

Many famous, high achievers have coaches, because they understand the importance of surrounding themselves with successful people and people who think great thoughts that reinforce AMAZING beliefs about themselves and their abilities.

I love getting inspiration from my amazing one on one clients.

Recently I was discussing a collaboration with a one on one client and they made the comment that this person they were collaborating with was quite successful because they "Act like a Label". I thought that was a great comment.

I coach all the time about doing this or that, but putting in that was is BRILLIANT and so true. Acting like your own label without actually having to get one or be signed is a beautiful thing. Take "Chance the Rapper" as probably the most incredible example of this in recent years. He won 3 Grammy's in 2017 as a completely unsigned artist and the things he did all lend themselves to acting like a label on your own behalf. And here are those 6 things...

  1. Loyal Fanbase creation - You have to build a community. Any and all successful acts, label signed or not have a loyal fanbase and community. Chance the Rapper has his GForce! You only need the first 1000 people in a group to have a VERY successful single or album launch, pre-sale or drop.
  2. Pre-sell, or package your products together for bigger sales from loyal fans. $20-$30 range is good to start with. Make more than your music allows, it won’t bring in enough income alone.
  3. Find and employ FREE marketing techniques. Social media, collaborations...anything you can think of that is FREE have the courage to pursue it.
  4. Sponsorships and Endorsements, often bring revenue, support and/or exposure.
  5. Educate yourself and BE SURE that you are collecting all the royalties that you are eligible for.
  6. Invest income from everywhere, live performance, sponsorships, endorsements, royalties back into your business for your next project! Don’t spend it all!

Creativity is key, fanbase is king and marketing can be free!

One of my amazing program members recently pointed out to me that there are pretty incredible pressures on Artists, Musicians and Songwriters to stay relevant in the business.

And that pressure can lead to having to spend time, energy and MONEY on constantly bringing out new music, projects, to stay on the radar. I thought was a really insightful observation so I decided to break it down a little to see if I can help to relive those pressures by looking at it in a different light.

I think there are two reasons that Artists feel pressured to stay relevant one is industry and the other is fans!

And I think those two reason weight heavily 80/20 towards Industry pressures 80 and fans 20. I think that we feel we need to start on the radar so that industry people don't forget that we are there and they see that we are moving forward constantly. It's really such an incredibly unfair pressure to put on Artists. Especially when industry aren't taking any risks on new Artists in recent times.

So in my mind we need to swing that pressure pendulum in the opposite direction. 20/80 industry/fans and the reason is that industry will quickly become interested when they see how relevant you are to a loyal fanbase!

In this episode I walk you through the creation of your VISION!

In uncertain times it's important to hold your vision in your mind, heart and body while you pivot your goals to keep moving forward toward your vision.

Some people confuse the two as the same thing and come to a complete halt when times get weird!

It's time to stop looking at all the things going wrong, or things that aren't working, and time to reset and open your mind, heart and body to the VISION you hold.

New Goals, ideas, connections, will come your way with this open stream of consciousness.

I'm seeing it in action with many of my one on one clients right now.

If you're having trouble seeing possibility in an otherwise difficult time in history, can you see a VISION of what you want to create in this world?

When you look back at the past 3 months, did your mind go to all the lost opportunities or did you previously allow space for something awesome, some unknown possibility to arrive in your life?

I went through this process with a one on one client 6 months ago, we set goals, set made plans and then we left space for something awesome and unknown to occur. It allowed him to keep an open mind. What happened next is crazy...he began to achieve a lot of the goals on his list during the last 6 months. Booked the festivals that we was wanting, landed a sponsorship with a local business, and was looking forward to playing out the summer of the amazing shows he had on his list, doing partnerships with his sponsor.

Then COVID-19 hit...at first his thoughts went to a place where he had lost opportunities, AMAZING opportunities that he had worked so hard to create and believe in.

Somewhere in the first few weeks he remembered that space for the unknown and started to focus his energies on the possibilities and not the losses.

He received a bigger royalty cheque than ever before, began his plans to create an income stream that he had always wanted to and had in past put aside for music. Which is now a very real future income.

And then...created an opportunity where many where seeing none, to play a live show, a few live shows actually - yes - during COVID-19. Safe, COVID-19 friendly shows the first of it's kind and has managed to create, exposure, media access, new fans and OPPORTUNITY in an environment where most are seeing none.

When people ask me "why they would spend the money to work with me"!?! THIS stories and dozens like it are my answer.

I Believe...

  • That failure is the key to success.
  • In being kind even to your worst enemy.
  • That anyone can achieve anything.
  • We all have limitless power.
  • I should never stop growing as a person.
  • Everyone should have a life coach.
  • Music is a way to journey through life.
  • That we should all laugh at ourselves often.
  • You never try to inspire, you should be inspired.
  • Boundaries are my way of saying “I love you” to myself.
  • Emotional pain is temporary, you can always move past it.
  • Your mind is the most powerful thing you will ever possess.
  • Talent is secondary to perseverance.
  • No one knows what they are doing in the music industry, everyone is just constantly testing.
  • In being where I said I’ll be, when I said I’ll be there.
  • In shutting my mouth as opposed to talking crap about someone.
  • Good is good enough.
  • That everyone has a story, that you’d be shocked about.
  • Musicians can make money, much more money than most think.
  • That I can do whatever I put my mind to, follow-through with, and persevere long enough on.

What do you believe?

More importantly what do you need to believe about yourself to be successful?

What you believe comes to light
What you believe is what you spend your time on.
What you believe is what will keep you moving during really tough times. What you believe is what you are capable of showing to others.
What you believe is what you can change.
What you believe is a source of light.
What you believe is what your children will initially believe.
What you believe is what is creating your daily thoughts.
What you believe is up to YOU!

It may have been initially placed there by the people around you, but now it’s time to take responsibility for it and move it the direction that you want to.

Your beliefs either currently limit your possible outcomes, or provide you with limitless outcomes!

What are your beliefs about yourself?

What are your beliefs about how to live life?

It's time to ask, acknowledge and change.

Overload generally means something is carrying or being subjected to more than it’s capacity to handle.

A lot of my friends are experiencing mental overload right now which leds to overwhelm and when you get into that state it can feel like, you are spinning your wheels constantly, some people get really mentally exhausted because they are in a heightened state of over thinking everything, and yet doing nothing. And a lot of people describe mental overload as being extremely busy and yet getting nothing done. So the amount of thoughts and the repetitive nature of your thoughts, make you believe that you are SO busy that you literally get nothing else done because it’s very difficult to concentrate on a task when you are experiencing overload. Overload whether it’s created by others or yourself leads to overwhelm and overwhelm leads to getting nothing done and sometimes even get result in feeling really down & depressed. A lot of people I'm speaking to lately, feel this way, they are feeling some days, really free and other days SO overloaded that they can’t seem to get anything done.

If this is how you are feeling right now, let’s break it down. I’m here to help you through it and past it, because this is going to come around again many times in life and this set of steps that you learn about today will help you forever not matter what causes the overload or overwhelm. That’s what so great about learning how your brain works, cause you are stuck with that brain for the rest of your life you might as well, learn how to use it really well.

Circumstances come and go, people even come and go either unfortunately or fortunately depending on the person but you have your one and only brain forever. So let’s learn about it, how it processes and how to become and active participant in it’s processing.

Here are the 5 steps...listen the podcast to get all the details.
Step 1. Unload
Step 2. Tasks
Step 3. Categorize
Step 4. Quantify
Step 5. Plan to Act

You know where to find me:

What do you want?

Did you pause to think of the answer?

Your answer involves your present programming based on your beliefs and thoughts, your brain during that pause did a shitload of processing and figured out the answer based on these thoughts. So what you BELIEVE is important, you can either change or keep those BELIEFS in order to get what you want.

Do you believe you can get what you want from life? Or is that a mystery to you?

The human brain is powerful whether we use it for good or bad it works well and just as powerful.

Let's use it to unlock our thoughts on what we believe we can have in life.

Let me ask you again....What do you REALLY want?

Life is about making an impact, not income!

That is the only thing you need to know.

If you are intentional about every action you do. The thoughts you think, the words that you say, the time you book into your calendar to do the tasks you said you were going to do. And the end goal, the intention behind those tasks, those thoughts, those connections, is to live out your purpose; you cannot fail.

I used to think that I had to believe in myself and that was end of the road for "how to" get to where you are going. Now I understand that believing in yourself comes and goes and hopefully it sticks around for a while but on your journey it comes and goes and that’s okay because you can get better at it along the way. But KNOWING, what your purpose is and what you are here for never fades and always provides enough energy to get things done.

In this episode I give a few steps to help you discover what might be your purpose so that if you are still not 100% sure you can begin to be and start working your KNOWING muscle until it’s so strong that there is no question.

I know that my purpose it not only to create music but to help other people create their dreams. And I will forever intend to make sure that I constantly helping people create their dreams, and build their lives and themselves into the strongest most amazing versions of themselves to make that a possibility. I feel so proud when i say that out loud, and so inspired to get up and work, I work alot, and it’s easy to because, I’ve made my entire living for the past 15 year on things that I LOVE.

There is a great quote in the Bob Proctor book “The Art of living” which is one of my favourite books of all time. Where he says “Committed decisions show up in two places; your calendar and in your checkbook.” This couldn’t be more true in my opinion. Committed decisions mean you spend time acting on them and paying for them. It doesn’t mean you spend time thinking and thinking some more about them.

First you must practice making the decision and the second you must practice ridiculous commitment to that decision by taking massive action on it.

In my opinion we almost always over complicate our struggles to create the outcomes we want by over analyzing them and causing our brains to change it's thoughts on a decision we think we have already made. For this reason I categorize decision in two ways when I make them to help me make them fast and act on them. When I first decide that is called a "Thought Decision", I've really done nothing but thought it through at this point. Then I put it in my calendar, I make plans and commit to those plans. I ask myself "Am I committed to this being the outcome no matter what?" If the answer and yes and then I TAKE ACTION then THIS is a "Complete and Active Decision". Only then can I confidently say that I have made a DECISION.

It's not too often you find people in the marketing and branding game who know how to work with artists to bring out their absolute best, but these two are the REAL DEAL. Tzu the creative behind K23 has teamed up with Nathalie the business brain of the operation to form a dynamic duo who are capable of bringing out the authenticity and soul in an artist and helping them form a brand that captures their true essence.

Tzu's background in the arts and music industry lends itself to understanding what a fluid campaign should look like. Nathalie's straight shooting business savvy is exactly what is needed to help keep you consistent and on the right path.

I love what they have to say about understanding that artists have a lot on their plate and they don't need just another opinion on what they "should" do. They need team members who take the time to understand their needs and direction and perhaps even help create that direction if it's unclear.

A lot of times in any business but frequently in the music business we put off getting music recorded and merch out because we simply can't afford it.

But what happens to those who can and did afford it? Well they might have fancy marketing and beautiful insta pics that makes things look incredibly successful to the untrained eye, but I can guarantee you that if other steps weren't taken first, they all have a familiar story.

The project got released and .....crickets....maybe a few hundred dollars if you're lucky of digital sales. And with the false hope that they 3000+ likers and followers on Facebook were going to buy your music, you risked your money on something that wasn't set up for success in the first place.

Even if you have the money, I would tell you what I"m going to tell you in this podcast first.

Making any decision in business based on the money is putting the cart before the horse. The horse being the customers, the clients, the FANS that are going to buy your product or services, the cart being the product or services and the money it took to create them.

It costs nothing to build clients, to build trust and credential. But we think that our product does that for us, that's not the truth.

Most of my clients are surprised to find out that Anger is actually one of my favourite emotions and that I even welcome their anger into our sessions because to me it’s one of the most important emotions for change to begin.

As young ones we are conditioned and programmed that anger is bad and that there is NO place for Anger. Stop doing that, stop being mad, stop it, stop feeling like that, that will get you nowhere. Etc...That’s the usual rhetoric that society places on this emotion.

And that’s understandable because a lot of the time the representation of Anger that we see is very destructive. Because what we are seeing is the consequence of someone acting out in Anger not anger itself. Actions caused by anger.

As of today I want you to redefine what anger is to you.

I want to ask you what your definition of anger is?

The dictionary defines it as “a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure or hostility”.

Then I want to tell you what my definition is:

“Anger is my clue that something inside me is ready to change”

It’s NOT the way I change it, it’s the clue it’s the sign, that change is necessary. It’s the first sign NOT to act in this emotion. It’s a clear sign of FEAR. My podcast last week was about fear and love and I suggest you listen to that one if you haven’t yet it’s a great compliment to this episode and vice versa.

Did you choose LOVE? Excellent!

Well here's the thing...

Love doesn't exist without FEAR.

Fear is as necessary to our personality as Love is the trick is to just not operate from fear in any long term way or in any way at all.

Every single one of us has healthy parts of our personality, every single one of us has paradigms already that are achievers, resourceful, industrious, happy, every single one of us has paradigms and personalities that are frustrated, jealous, angry, sad. That’s what makes us humans, powerful, and complex. But the path to changing it isn't complex at all. It’s simple.

The difference between the two is very simple, one set is rooted in LOVE and the other set is rooted in FEAR.

COVID-19 is giving us a hell of a run for our money, literally, and a hell of a time emotionally. We can grow immensely in these times if we choose to.

I thought that posing like this would be cool, until I saw the pic. LOL!
It makes me laugh every time I look at it and anything that makes me laugh is getting shared lately so here it is in all it's glory. I have never been good at promo pictures. hahahahaha....

I had to take a step back this past few days and reset my mindset. I was letting all of the stress, anxiety and worry get to me a little too much. COVID-19 sure turned up the anxiety in our lives didn't it?

These were just a few things I was thinking...

  • How the hell are we going to pay our bills?

  • Is my business completely done?

  • Even if my kids activities return how can I afford to pay for them again?
These were just a couple. I'm sure you have your own set of them that are on repeat in your brain right now.

I finally decided to go back to the simple things that make the biggest impact and try to pull myself out of this place, so I could show up 100% for you all like I always do. And it did work!

This podcast takes you through the three things I HIGHLY recommend and how little time they take to turn your day around, maybe even your ability to sleep again and find hope on this crazy ride.

Also, I am offering my weekly coaching program at only $25 CAD/month right now. Please message me at musiclifemonthly@gmail.com

I will send you the link to join at this price for 3 months. It is usually $127CAD /month.

In the past week many of us have been forcibly gifted the time to reflect and PANIC about our livelihoods. It goes without saying that my heart goes out to each and every one of you that are suffering lost income, lost gigs, isolation and an uncertain future.

I have trouble sitting around and not doing something about it all. So I asked myself, what can I do for my listeners that will make a difference to their future? The answer is not a list of resources, you can get that online. If you do require help immediately I suggest you spend some time looking for funds, talking to your bank, and scaling back your expenses.
However this podcast talks about much longer term solutions to panic proofing your business. I often attempt to have this conversation with artists and get a lot of excuses about the lack of time.

Now that we've been forcibly gifted some time, lets use it to fill the gaps that got us here in the first place.

These are steps as I see them to future panic proof your music business, or any business for that matter.

In less than 20 mins I will explain how to feel better about any circumstance in your life immediately!

Using this knowledge and technique you can literally change any feelings and therefore results in your life. Teaching your brain how to take another pathway of thoughts is possible.

I’m going to get STRAIGHT to the point. Often we confuse circumstances with feelings. And what I mean by that is that we think the shitty things that are happening in our lives that are out of our control are one and the same as the feelings triggered by them. But they are not the same thing at all. In between the shitty circumstances that are out of our control and the feelings ARE things that we can control. Called THOUGHTS!

In this podcast I show you how to create new pathways for better thoughts to travel on so you can hack your subconscious thoughts that you currently believe are completely out of your control!

This is life changing....

Thoughts are the start of everything, this is why I work with thoughts the most!

If you choose your thoughts intentionally and carefully, you can create whatever you want to create in life. Isn’t that AMAZING?

When we tap into this potential as humans the most powerful thing we have is our minds and our thoughts.

When we live a very unintentional life, we tend to believe that our thoughts are not within our control, that they are in some way placed there by someone else.

When in fact we have been placed into circumstances unwillingly that much is fact the rest if up to us, we still own our own thoughts, even if your circumstances don’t change or haven’t changed yet, you can change what you’re thinking about it and what you make it mean to you or about you.

This podcast takes you through 3 steps to changing a thought in your life TODAY, and in return getting a greater result.

Step 1: What are you thinking?
Step 2: Why are thinking these thoughts?
Step 3: What do you want your new thoughts to be?

Sounds easy right!?! It is, we complicate this stuff so much believing that they problems are SO big that only BIG answers are the solution.

A familiar conversation with an Artist...

ME: What are your goals?
ARTIST: I want to have a #1 on Radio
ME: Are you willing to put yourself out there and be incredibly vulnerable and brave enough to do that?
ARTIST: Oh no! You see I don't want to be famous.

Many times we are lead by the fear our brains have surrounding what it will actually take to achieve a HUGE goal. We can easily think about the goal and desire it, but we don't want to be incredibly uncomfortable in order to attain it. Somewhere along the line we got the idea that if it feels bad it's not the right thing. But let me tell you this, no one ever accomplishes DREAM goals by being comfortable and safe. No one. EVER!

There is a way to get your brain to stop repeating the sabotage on your goals, but you have be in the right mindset before you even set that goal otherwise you will be caught off guard, start validating why you need to scale back your goals, and start procrastinating, sabotaging and creating excuses on why it's simply "dilusional" to thin that you could actually achieve it.

Does this sound like you? I think a lot of Musicians can fit themselves into this category. Many of my artists tell me that they prefer not to be noticed. It's difficult to put yourself out there in a BIG way, it's much more comfortable to stay small and slightly invisible.

”Under Earning is the determination or compulsion to keep ourselves small, to stay under the radar, to not be visible, despite having the desire to be successful, despite having the ability to and perhaps having opportunities.”

Symptoms

  • Not asking for a raise
  • Rejecting ideas
  • Working below ones training
  • Avoiding earning
  • Investing more time than is needed in a task
  • Specifically for the self-employed - not following up leads
  • Not charging appropriately or under charging, not charging at all, not following up on an unpaid invoice.
  • Overdoing volunteering activities
  • Choosing to work alone, when it may make more sense to work with others
  • Clutter - not valuing your workspace, having things that get in the way
  • Time deflection, putting off what needs to be done by doing something else, not spending time actually focusing on visions and goals.
  • Chronic lateness

People behave in this way for a reason. What is behind this type of behaviour?

Internal conflict and core beliefs that says “I really want this, but I think I can ever have it.”

One of those CORE beliefs is that you’re only really going to be successful if you have a significant windfall. Because you couldn’t possibly do it on your own.

The other huge CORE belief is concerns about visibility issues, if I get successful I will stand out, be noticed and be vulnerable.

Get out there and get vulnerable, set big goals and start earning to your potential.

No matter what type of success are you wanting to achieve thinking of the process as a cultivation of your thought processes is very helpful.

Coaching is the cultivation of your mind to use for success. Right now if you are not having the successes that you want to, you need to cultivate a better and more solid foundation of thoughts, and beliefs in order to grow success from them. And just like farmers we continue to cultivate those thoughts, each year, as new things come to light, new information, new ideas, new awareness and understanding of yourself we cultivate a little different and build an even stronger foundation for success.

I continue to cultivate daily, weekly, and sometimes I gotta go back and rework the same ground I’ve worked in my mind many times before I get it dealt with. I do this with my clients also and it’s amazing to watch people work through and sometimes they make a change and they haven’t even realized it yet.

Here is a text message I want to share with that I just received a couple of days ago from a client that wrapped up coaching with me over 18 months ago.

So a lot of artists ask me how to increase their confidence. It's been proven that regularly practicing acknowledgment of your small wins will help you increase your motivation and confidence all that same time. So in my mind, that’s totally worth it. Your brain basically takes that information and uses it to leverage your own perceived competence toward future, larger successes.

I talk a lot about the feedback loop and how important it is for growth and future successes. We have what is referred to as a reward circuitry in our brains and when it’s activated our amazing bodies release chemicals in particular dopamine is released which energizes us gives us good feelings it’s the chemical that allows us to feel reward and to take action towards the kind of things that triggered it in the first place. Side note; this is also the very same chemical that causes us to get addicted to gambling, alcohol, nicotine.

You currently have thousands of daily thoughts, hundreds of lifetime beliefs that are driving the way you achieve in the music business.

It's possible that you fit into one of the following three categories:

  1. Starving Artist:You’re an active artist, musician, or singer songwriter who is struggling to find income and make a full-time living, leaving you frustrated and unfulfilled.
  2. Overworked Road Warrior: You’re a very active artist, musician, or singer songwriter who is struggling to pay your bills or get ahead even though you work and play gigs around the clock.
  3. Overwhelmed Introvert: You’re frustrated with trying to be an expert on all the things that come with being an artist and you feel that you don’t have enough connections in the business.

We gather these as we go, from family, society, friends, managers, and even our own banking institutions.

It's also possible to change all of this with one decision.

It's time for you to take control and consciously work and changing them.

I have everything you need to succeed in my coaching program.

While we all like to throw social media under the bus for the being the root of evil now days, it connects us, gives us access that we never had before that we can use for good. But we have to get good with ourselves first!

The reason I care so much about this topic is because we are Musicians. You might recall from previous podcasts of mine we are more prone to depression, anxiety, sleeping problems, mental unrest that’s proven by studies that Musicians have a higher rate of those things to begin with. Now add in social media that we are all under pressure to use! That’s why I’m so concerned about helping you all and myself with this topic.

In this podcast I outline the ways that I researched that are proven to actually help us be powerful over social media, and not be hurt or over powered by it.

Mike Raine, Journalist, for Canadian Musician Magazine and Podcast co-host chats with me about his recent article and research on what musicians are facing with regards to mental health and how we can try to combat it! It's no surprise that musicians are among some of the hardest hit by mental health issues. In Mike Raine's recent article "Music is facing a Mental Health Crisis." He reports on statistics released by studies that show the high % of musicians to be affected by challenges surrounding their mental health. Higher than many other industries and the general public. And even more startling, the low % of musicians who have sought help with their struggles, also lower than the general public.

Maybe that's because we feel that it's somewhat "normal" to be a struggling artist. Or that we can't seek help because we have no access to benefits and money is tight. I can't be sure exactly why these numbers are so low.

What I am sure of after spending 20 years in the business, is that Mike is absolutely right. The music industry presents a sometimes perfect recipe for mental health issues to show up.

With a lack of sleep, personal and financial pressures, image concerns, constant access to alcohol and drugs and many other ingredients of this difficult recipe to navigate it's any wonder that we're having a hard time making it through in a healthy way. Some industry professionals, however are starting to put resources into place for their artists to get help which is extremely encouraging.

I see part of my job in the music industry space to add positive ingredients to a recipe that definitely requires some balancing out.

So what can you do if you are feeling like your mental wellness is at risk? First know that you are not alone, this is a tough industry physically and emotionally, many of us have been through some very difficult times. It doesn't have to be just accepted as just part of the ride, you can speak up, you can get help, get stronger, get sober, and do it knowing that there is nothing wrong with you, you are human like the rest of us. If we aren't in this together, then why are we in this at all?

Second, definitely reach out for help. There are resources out there like the Unison Benevolent Fund in Canada and Help Musicians UK (HMUK) who are currently doing this.

http://unisonfund.ca

https://www.helpmusicians.org.uk/

Also take a read of Mike's article, a great step towards changing something is first understanding it.

Most Artists know that by default when we take on the music industry we become entrepreneurs, but that doesn't stop it from feeling a little overwhelming at times.

With the abilities of social media platforms to reach out to a wide fan base it's important that all Artists and Bands know that there are so many resources to help them navigate the biz and also so many Artists and Bands who have already beaten the path of entrepreneurship so successfully that we can learn so much from.

Andrew King from Canadian Musician Magazine & podcast dove into this topic in his recent article and we chat about it in this podcast.

I've been having a lot of conversation lately with industry friends and clients about the major differences between a strategy and a plan. Your strategy has to do with WHY and your plans have to do with HOW you do things. Think of your strategy as your guiding light on the WAY in which you exist in music business and WHY you are willing to go through all the ups and downs. Your Strategy makes your planning easy. It makes your direction clear and your decisions no-brainers.

In this podcast I outline the actual difference between the two and give you a list of questions to ask yourself when you're trying ot create your strategy.

There is a lot of mis-information about there about how to get sponsored in our business. Or should I say, discouragement on the subject. In my experience you do not have to have a large fan base and 100k followers online. You need to have a clear idea of what your target market is and who to reach out to in the first place.

Your proposal of a partnership should make total sense to the person receiving it. Your audiences should overlap. You need to have actual experience with their product or service.

Then it's a numbers game, reach out to the right companies, let them know your win/win idea and then reach out to another 30 just like them and one will say yes!

I outline the steps to getting a proposal out and some BIG tips on what actually works in my experience.

Get sponsored in 2020!

I've been hearing from alot of us lately that there is a general feeling of being STUCK! Flatlining, or spinning your wheels? When you're in the place nothing gets done. We have a fairly unique industry in that we are releasing to the world what we worked many months ago. It's diffiuclt to keep an intensity and excited nature when we are already emotionally moving on from a project that hasn't even been released yet! When we first start out in the industry the support is instant and huge, and then after slogging it out, that support can feel like it's starting to disappear. I'm here to help you get through this time and give you 3 simple steps to move out of being stuck and onto new beginnings. http://musiclifecoach.joannejanzen.com/ep42

This is a great conversation with self-professed introvert Singer Songwriter Alexander Noel. Alexander got into music after experiencing being bullied in school and feeling like the outcast. Music gave him a purpose, allowed him to feel and also gave him a standing in his school community and for himself that was respected.

The irony being that sometimes you feel judged even harder when you decide to take music on as more than a hobby. Whether it be judgement on your image, music, sound, production, it can feel like your back in the school yard again.

Owning who you are and what you bring the world for others to enjoy and learn from is what you can offer the world as a musician. I couldn't help myself but to slip into a coach role for Alexander during this interview.

Enjoy :)

Perseverance might the single greatest skill a Musician or Artist could ever build and the best gift you could ever gift to yourself is the ability to learn how to persevere.

Perseverance is sticking with your future dream, with your goals, grit, resilience is sticking with your desired future day in day out not just for the week or the month, but for years.

And the ability to work hard and work hard on yourself while you are making that desired future a reality.

Resilience and Perseverance means living your life like it’s a marathon not a sprint.

Your music career is a marathon not a sprint.

Talent doesn’t make you Gritty.

There are many talented Musicians who do not possess perseverance and therefore are not successful.

In fact studies have shown that talent alone might be negatively attributed to success. Meaning the most talented individuals who have existed on talent alone don’t often succeed.

A very wise person once told me that only difference between the Artists, Musicians who make it and ones who don’t, are that the ones who don’t, gave up too early.

Perseverance and failure have so much in common...

Artists. Musicians, Athletes, Entrepreneurs….who experience failure are most likely to succeed because it’s the bouncing back from temporary failure and persevering in the face of failure that allows those individuals to deeply understand that failure is NOT a permanent place.

It's really amazing to find out what some of your friends are up to after 20 years. I recently reconnected with friend and Bass Player from Hannover, Germany - Ina Niemerg.

Ina is now an EFT Coach, and I was interested in what EFT could do and how it could be helpful to my listening audience and even to my Music Life Coach members.

So, we came up with an agreement. "let's do a session and I don't get anything out of it I can say I tried and if I do, let's do a podcast interview!"

I was surprised at how well my week went following my one session with her. We talk about what EFT is, do a brief demonstration of it, and then I talk about my personal session and how it helped me get through my week and unlock some stuck feelings I was having at that point in time.

If you would like to know more about what Ina does and how it can help you contact her at her website:

When people come to me for help they are usually in a place of struggle. The first step is to feel better about where you currently are. You can't fix a situation while you're feeling intense shame, guilt and struggle over it.
Whether it's money, relationships or your personal past you don't start by changing it and simply fixing it. You start by feeling better about the same shit you felt horrible about yesterday. Then and only then can you begin to change it.

I've actually never liked the "It could be worse" answer to someone's problems. I prefer "I could think better about it".

Somewhere someone is dealing with a very similar situation as you but they are still feeling happy.

Jay Marwaha was quiet about his interests in becoming a Musician, so quiet in fact that this family didn't even know until he had already recorded his first album AND was also working on writing a book.

He has a quiet yet determined personality, showing up, putting himself out there and the understanding that what he puts out to the world will be his legacy.

He's working on a project that means a lot to him based on his background and he approaches it with a "what have I got to lose attitude". Jay is one of the nicest people I've spoken to in the last little while and I wish him all the success he deserves in following his passion.

If you are an artist who wants to pick the brain of a full-timer who has been making his living in music for 34 years this is the podcast for you. Soul singer, songwriter and dueling piano player Mike Atkins from Austin, Texas, sat down with me and discussed how he makes his living in music and some of the challenges he came across while getting his latest album "Rivers" released.

Mike's goal: To play until he's 90 and die sitting at this piano! THAT my friends is total commitment to your purpose and your passion. Mike got his first gig paycheck when he was 13 years old and he's been figuring it all out and paying his bills on music ever since.

Mike would have to be the most humble, talented and gritty musician I've talked to in a long time. By gritty I mean, that Mike shows up and even when personal challenges have slowed his roll, he still got back to it, got his album released and kept putting one foot, one song and one performance in front of another. When you have a goal like Mike's you never stop creating and playing, that's just not an option.

This interview with Brazil based Canadian singer songwriter and performer Lindsay Muller is a powerful reminder that self love is the fuel of life. Lindsay was reminded of her own self love after writing affirmations that eventually become songs to teach her children to remember to love themselves.

She now creates positive children's songs, has an e-book coming out, performs jazz standard live with her husband and creates meditation and yoga music for us all to enjoy. Did I mention that she also homeschools her two children? In the same 7 days a week that we all have to work with, Lindsay also gets creative enough to write her own music. Incredible right?

Heather gives her biggest pieces of advice for anyone in the industry or anyone looking to become a part of the industry. The most common question I get asked is "Just show me HOW to make a living in music." Well the honest truth is that even if I show you HOW you first need to know WHY you aren't putting yourself out there and showing up in a way that means business and means results in the first place.

Many Artists are waiting for things to happen, you must go out and make it happen.

This podcast answers that common question "Please show me HOW!"

No matter what we all have a prejudice of some sort. Many people believe that ALL Musicians are broke or just play for free because they love it. Yes! I do love it! Of course I do, but I also need to pay real money for real services like electricity and water. I cannot play for free. Ever been in a situation where you have to qualify yourself further? I've been in this position hundreds of times in social settings when the inevitable "What do you do for a living?" questions surfaces. I've become really comfortable with it, but this past weekend I found myself slipping back into some old thinking when put in a situation that I didn't know I was going to be in. Do you feel like this sometimes? Do you consciously ask yourself why and try to change it?

If you don't it might be time that you do, it might be limiting your ability to proceed as a major money earner.

Honestly there are some really romantic views surrounding the right time to quit your day job. And while I love a romantic story as much as the next girl, I do think that a little risk management and responsibility doesn't go astray when you're deciding on whether to quit your day job or not.

One of the most interesting things to me is that no matter who established the Artist or Musician is that I work with everyone at some point and at multiple points throughout their careers they get to the point where they are feeling super drained and in a struggle and I”m going to call that Failure Fatigue. You might be thinking, why would somebody who is super established be thinking that they are in failure? I think it’s easy to think that when you’re reaching for that place thinking that it’s going to easy street but the reality is that in the Music Industry Failures come some big and some small but then can all feel bad and hard especially when you’re working on a few hours of sleep.

This podcast works through what I call "Failure Fatigue"

If you have dreams and goals that you aren't moving towards it's most likely because FEARS stands in the way and those excuses and reasons and validations you have for not having tried too hard yet are just other words for FEAR.

Lack of Money = FEAR

What People Will Think = FEAR

Not wanting to ever experience physical discomfort = FEAR

Thinking that the path should feel easy mentally = FEAR

The ONLY way to your dreams is through the FEAR

In the music business, there is a lot of attention put on the artists' ability to be authentic. I think that is what has created so many singer/songwriters in the recent years, which I LOVE but also I should point out that you don’t have to write all your own songs to be authentic. It’s the yearning to be the most authentic version of yourself as an artist that most are (for lack of a better word) chasing.

And for some of us, there is a feeling of being stuck between being a truly full version of ourselves and worrying about not being accepted or fitting in.

This podcast gives you some actionable steps to authenticity.

The Oxford Dictionary defines Self-Confidence as; A feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities, and judgment. Hmmmm….okay what the hell does that mean?

My definition is this:

Self-Confidence is your ability to deal with all the negative feelings you might have if you take a risk.
In this podcast, I challenge you to get out of your comfort zone and do something that scares you in order to grow your self-confidence.

I really want to make this a HUGE point.

Most self-sabotage starts with negative emotions that are being resisted.

I want to make a BIG differentiation between negative emotions (which I believe are normal and necessary and good) and negative emotions that are being strongly resisted.

REASON 1: Feel all the feelings, become aware of all the feelings, positive and negative and not seeing negative feelings as wrong, as a problem.

REASON 2: Fear of Success is REAL

REASON 3: If you are in perpetual PROCRASTINATION. There is a good chance you are self-sabotaging your success.

I honestly think that this is a life skill that is missing from a lot of our regular living and your Music Lives.

Interestingly, this is a skill that isn’t that hard for most children, unless they’ve been taught otherwise which some have. I went in search of the best method to coach this topic to my clients and I now have a process that I go deep into coaching and it works! It really frees you up as an Artist to access love for others in a much easier way and also to let your subconscious brain know that your success has nothing to do with anyone else’s success or failure.

This podcast outlines the 5 steps to embracing happiness for others and in turn increasing your own self-confidence and happiness.

In this podcast I talk about my husbands Mustang restoration project and the 8 HUGE takeaways from watching him bring a 31 year old Mustang back to life that looked like a near impossible task.

There are SO many parallels between how he has been able to tackle this huge goal and vision and continues to and how we can all learn to tackle our Music Careers and ANY huge task at ANY time.

Take a look at the before and after pics of the interior of this car you won't even believe that it's the same car.

There are two places that will make you contemplate life in a much bigger way than usual and that is the Mountains and the Ocean and I think it’s because we realize we are so small and that there is so much more out there for us. So go ahead and want it, go after it and never stop trying, stop living small and ask yourself WHY NOT ME?

In this episode, I reveal my innermost limiting thoughts that I have while playing music at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel for the weekend.

Making full-time money in the music business is an actual reality! People do it all the time, people are doing it now in fact as you are reading this. However, there is a sub-section of society that thinks unless they have heard of you before that you cannot be making money. Here are some steps to getting people to take your dreams seriously.

When you feel that others aren't supporting your dream it can be downright depressing. Take back the power by doing these 8 things. I promise you it will move you to even bigger dreams

  1. OWN IT - Own your dreams, you are a freakin' amazing creative being, Just OWN IT!
  2. INVEST IN IT - Take lessons, learn from those who are doing it, get a LIFE COACH ;)
  3. BE OKAY & BE YOUR CHEERLEADER - It's okay if your friends and family can't support, that's their business, not yours.
  4. PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE - Learn to take criticism and don't take it personally.
  5. HAVE A LIFE PURPOSE - Know why you do this in the first place.
  6. ACCEPT THE PEOPLE WHO THINK YOU ARE AMAZING - Be able to take a compliment graciously.
  7. SET GOALS - Real dreams have real goals and real people who go after them.
  8. STOP SEEKING VALIDATION - Stop looking for outside approval and starting finding it from within yourself.

Historically the Music Business conjures up all sorts of stories about the snake who scammed all the artists out of their money with a comprise of fame and fortune.

That might be ONE reason why we have trouble trusting anyone. The other reason might be that you don't really trust yourself to make the right choices or that you think that the RIGHT choice is the one that has to be made!

This podcast takes on that issue.

Storytelling is a huge part of the human existence. Our abilities as humans to use our minds to create imaginative elaborate stories is amazing. Just take a look at a couple of 3 or 4 year olds and how they create amazing stories when they are playing in a fantasy world. As we grow into adulthood, our brains are continually trying to make sense of what’s happening in our lives through a narrative or an internal story. Whether we realize it or not we are continually reflecting on our past events and trying to assign a meaning to them. It’s completely human that we are doing this, and when we become conscious of this we can start to understand where these stories are coming from.

So it’s not so much the past events that shape our stories and beliefs that we have today as much as it is the way in which we have interpreted or assigned a meaning to, or even a greater story surrounding those events.

We are the stories we tell ourselves

We are the person we create ourselves to be in those stories

The power of storytelling and visual storytelling is so great that we can watch movies and scenes and we have trouble separating that from actual reality.

So if that is true, then we can create a story that serves us so well, then the stories we tell ourselves are extremely important to our success and our happiness. Let's work on changing them for the better.

So many times I have personally experienced this myself and I have coaching clients who will come to see and say “I’m really overwhelmed right now”. And I always know that underneath that overwhelm or feeling of overwhelm are usually a mass of items. An accumulation of things that are stressing someone out.

Overwhelm as an accumulation of stress.

And that stress is coming from all different places in this podcast I talk about the three major places they come from.

  1. THE BIG TO DO LIST

  2. A LOT OF UN-MADE DECISIONS

  3. A LACK OF DIRECTION

Gratitude is amazing in that it helps you align who you are in the world with what your purpose is!

When we appreciate something or someone, we attract more of what we are appreciating and it becomes a snowball effect.

Essentially, the feeling of gratitude shifts your focus from what you don’t want to what you do want. By focusing on things you're grateful for, those feelings of appreciation and gratitude put you in a state of receiving. When you become more open to receiving, you live in an openness that allows for your vision and goals to actualize much faster. As a result, you’ll likely experience a dramatic and meaningful change in your life.

Being Enough, doesn’t mean that someone has measured you up and decided 'yep this one’s enough.'

Being Enough doesn’t mean that you’ve learned everything there is to know

It doesn’t mean you’re perfect

It doesn’t mean that don’t need help from anyone else

And it doesn’t mean that you won’t and haven’t made mistakes or won’t continue to

Being Enough doesn’t mean that your insecurities won’t challenge you

Being ENOUGH, means that you were made to be you and ONLY YOU

You are you on purpose and since the day you have existed you were enough

Being and knowing that you are enough means that in the pursuit of growth and continued growth you will become more authentically you because you are content with being you.

Being ENOUGH means that you know that you don’t have to prove yourself to be valuable or worthy. YOU ARE valuable and YOU ARE worthy.

Being Enough is a possession that you have that can never be taken away from you, one that you might not know until now that even existed.

So as you move through your journey of self-development, know that you are Always ENOUGH, and you have always been enough and the journey of evolving right now that you are on is just making you more of your authentic self and bringing it into a place of power for you.

It pains me that the average Music Professional makes around or less than $25,000 a year, and it pains me that we don’t talk about how to change that instead of constantly talking about the fact that that’s just the way it is. Let’s change that. Let’s start having conversations about why that is why we think that way so we can all do better.

Are you trading TIME for money? If so, you need to start thinking about to create enough VALUE and start trading VALUE for money instead.

When you first start out in this industry everything is shiny and new and it feels good, and it’s really easy to believe in a dream or in yourself achieving whatever that dream looks and feels like to you because everything is going great.

But then one day something happens and you experience rejection, criticism, failure and you immediately start the self-assault and sub-conscious and conscious self-talk and you wind up taking actions that are really detrimental to everything you’ve started or worse yet you walk away.

So how do you get through those times and process that rejection and eventual lack of faith in a super healthy way? How do you find it within yourself to stay the course when you’re down, depressed and down on yourself and your own abilities to see this dream through?

That’s what this episode is all about.
