Four Treasures God Has Entrusted to Women Entrusted with Treasure  2 Timothy 1:14 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. Nurturing- • We can grow a baby, ignore the pain, love, and nurture. We can ignore a lack of sleep and exhaustion to take care of kids.

• It doesn’t stop there we nurture our friendships, spouses, and aging parents.

• Nurturers are nesters-creating homes that are safe havens for our families.

• Nurturing instincts will cause you to forget about all of your own pain to take care of the pain in those we love.

• Men aren't naturally nurturing, they can learn but we are nurtures by nature, and that is a gift that is entrusted to us by God Guard our nurturing gifts  • Not allowing people who aren’t meant to have it to take advantage of it-taking away focus from those who need it!  Don’t cast your pearls before swine.

• Don’t be weary in well-doing.

• Outside influences- live in a society that tells women they don’t need nurture. Stay at home mom/ Communication • A woman can invoke emotion, thoughts, and feelings with words.

• Communication is a deep need for a woman, we need to talk about our feelings and discuss the things we are struggling with.

• The men in the room can feel something and have no idea what to say about it, us women can explain it all without ever having to put too much thought into it.

• But with this treasure come great responsibility. It’s important that we use this tool we have to bless and lift others up. We can use our words and rip people apart or we can use to heal and bless. We have to use our words to lift others up.

• This is an area the devil will turn our greatest asset into our greatest weakness.   Guard your communication • Ephesians 4:29 says "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. A Proverbs 31 builds others up!

• Raise your personal standard and don’t listen to bad communication, gossip, or slander.

• Ask yourself, does this bring value to the situation

God has entrusted us with this gift, let’s show God He can trust us with it.  Emotion  • Emotions are given to all us by God to use for our survival but women have a stronger expression of and connection to emotion

• Women crave an emotional connection with our partners, friends, and family

• Men-remember the emotion you felt with your first kiss, the day your baby was born, seeing your bride walk down the aisle. Or maybe it is killing your first dear. That is the intensity of emotion that women feel on most days. We feel strongly!

• Women sometimes get a bad rap for the intense emotions we feel and even express but it is our lifeblood. That emotion drives us to be courageous, to connect powerfully, and seek the connection. And ladies here’s a tip for ya, your man needs that emotional connection too he just doesn’t know how to ask for it. That is a gift that is entrusted to us-we have to use it wisely Guard your Emotion • Don’t give place to the devil-when you feel a strong emotion, don’t let it make decisions for you

• 2 Corinthians 10:5 Cast down imaginations, bring into captivity every thought that exhausts itself above the knowledge of God and bringing in captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Our emotions cause us to have thought that is not of God and we have to take them captive.

Write it-helps you capture the thought in a rational way.

• Ladies, our emotions are a gift from God, entrusted to connect, love, and protect.  Intuition  •  How many men would testify to your mom’s or your wife’s intuition? Isn’t it freaky?

• Women-how many trusts your intuition.

•  We seem to automatically know something is up… and often WHAT that something is!

•  the Bible calls it Discernment,

Recently I was interviewed by my friend Donna Harris from Constantly Under Construction. We talked about my journey through healing from childhood sexual abuse and the dysfunctional thinking that came from those traumatic years of my life.

In this interview, I shared how the trauma led to a cycle of abusive relationships, and how God brought me out of the lowest place of my life.

Be advised, this is not an episode to listen to with children around, and may not be for you if accounts of abusive situations trigger you.

Donna was such a gracious host to this interview. You've got to hear more of her work at www.constantlyunderconstruction.com, and you can find her on Instagram!

As the Hello Courageous community has grown, I’m being given opportunities to share on other people’s platforms where they are reaching audiences just like this one.

One such opportunity was where I was recently invited by Amber Jenkins to share with her audience via Facebook live on the Amber Empowers Facebook group.   She wanted me to share about body image and how it affects women.

Get a pen and paper, we cover a lot of practical insight on how you can appreciate the gift of the beautiful body God gave you, and how to appreciate it as such.

I love talking about this subject, and we had such a good time together that I wanted to share this talk with you.  The audio quality of this interview isn’t so great due to the nature of Facebook Live’s, but I think you’ll still enjoy it.

You are going to love my guest this week, Donna Harris. She is from St. Louis and lives there with her husband and three boys. You'll hear that transformation is her passion.

Donna shares with us how she took what was seemly hopeless and turned it into hope for others through her own podcast, Constantly Under Construction. She brings it full circle when she tells us how she believes we are all on a continual journey in Christ.

She loves discussing the hardships that ultimately create our best moments. She has had her share of hard things in life and she still finds the struggle very, very real. But there’s hope (and even happiness!) to be found in the tough times. She also loves discussing how that hope is only possible with Jesus. In all things, she wants to encourage people through hard feelings and connect them to the One who defines our worth.

Donna created Constantly Under Construction Podcast so you can hear yourself in the story. The struggle can be physical, mental, or spiritual… but you aren’t alone. There’s hope to overcome again and again.

The podcast was born from Donna's hardships, but it has grown because of the hardship of others. You can find hope and connection with people who have lived through tough situations and come out the other side better, more refined. Her podcast has guests that will motivate and inspire you and deepen your desire to know your Creator. You’ll find encouragement and hope no matter how big or small the struggle. She has come to love the journey of continual refinement and want to bring you along for the ride.

You can find Donna, her podcast and all of her information on her website or here on her Instagram

Common Communication Issues Couples tend to need improvement in the following assessment areas:

Not believing everything their partner says.Making comments that belittle or degrade each other. Having difficulty conveying needs and desires with each other.Having difficulty sharing negative feelings with each other. Not listening to each other well. Getting defensive every time someone disagrees with them. Being more interested in proving who is to blame rather than looking for solutions.

There are four major communication styles: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive. While the assertive style is usually the most effective of the four, many couples do not use this style as often as they could, resulting in interactions that are frustrating and unsatisfying.

The goal of the Assertive Style is having relationships that don't deny others or us. It is not a strategy for getting our own way. Being assertive puts you on equal footing with others. Assertive communication enables people to express themselves in a healthy, non-defensive, and non-insistent manner. It involves asking clearly and directly for what one wants and being positive and respectful in one's communication. Assertive individuals take responsibility for their messages by using "I" statements. They avoid statements beginning with "You." When one partner speaks assertively, it encourages the other person to also respond positively and assertively. When a person is heard and understood, it increases intimacy.

I'm so excited to share our first episode in the Courageous Marriage Series.

All relationships have disagreements and fights. All relationships, no matter who they are with, eventually will disagree. Right? So, why not have a plan before it happens.

TJ and I decided after several unproductive, heated discussions that we were going to have a plan.

When I say several, I’m talking years here, not two or three. As we stated in the podcast, we are both headstrong and stubborn, so it took us a minute to get the concept of arguing effectively.

After much anguish we thought, why not have an efficient plan for arguing and disagreeing.

Today we lay it all out here for you. How we have done it wrong, how we TRY to do it right and our best advice on how to argue. I hope you enjoy the podcast. If you did, leave us a comment or a review! Thanks for listening!!

In this podcast we discuss The Clearing Structure, courtesy of Seth and Melanie Studley over at Anatomy of Marriage. You can download the PDF here.

I have a discount code posted at the end for you.

We say in this chat, "we were all over the place,"

but as you hear two friends talking, I hope you learn about the beautiful heart of this leader among women. On this episode, you will get to know both of us while we discuss all things church, women, and confidence.

This amazing lady has had an enormous impact on my life, and my prayer is that as you listen to our conversation, you become inspired and encouraged by her leadership. I hope you see your very own potential in all we discuss.

I also want to tell you about Mindy's blog.

It is full of the encouragement that in my opinion, all women need to hear. She understands that we navigate life in a crazy busy world of being wives, moms, career women, entrepreneurs, and friends, and I think you will find that God has given her a gift to love women uniquely. You'll find real honest passion and inspiration. As a result, I have been encouraged and driven beyond my comfort zone. She has helped me to see my potential with zero judgment. I think you will discover that as well.

As I mentioned before, we are particularly excited about the next I Am She conference

2018 was awesome in the Scott household. I watched God do some pretty amazing things. Certianly I would never have imagined last year at this time I would have a podcast. Don't you think it is fascinating what you can do when you say yes. But I don’t want to ride the skirt tails of 2018’s blessings. Do you?

So how was 2018 for you?

I hope it has been as amazing as any year you have had. I hope you can look back and see the blessings in your life. As you look back and celebrate all the triumphs and even trials that you have overcome throughout 2018, you need to have an action plan for the new year. I want to help you prepare to have the most successful and courageous year yet! I want you to accomplish your dreams!

Do you have a dream for your future?

Seriously, do you? Because I want to let you know that you can accomplish just about anything you want with a plan. Now don't let the negative voices in your head tell you: it won't happen/can't happen/might not happen/I don't have the time/I don't have the resources... You have everything you need woven into the fiber of who you are! Like the very best sheets, with the highest thread count, and the finest Egyptian cotton, God has you so well put together you will not fail. You won't break down; you were made to withstand a lifetime of wears and tears. Sister, you got this. So let's do the hard work together. Let's plan for your dreams. Let's make a plan for your success.

So sister, you gonna say it with me? "2019 is going to be my year!" Come on, say it again, out loud this time-"2019 is going to be MY year." Say it loud and proud. So loud the haters can hear you. So loud the negativity in your own head has to listen! This is going to be your year!!

5 things you can do to help prepare for 2019

Make a commitment. Stay committed to focus on them each day. Pray about how you can take small daily, weekly and monthly steps towards your goals.Get a beautiful journal and fancy pens and take your thoughts captive by thinking about your thoughts and writing them down. If the thoughts are negative, write out the truth about that negative thought, try finding it from the word of God.Write your goals every single day! EVERY SINGLE DAY! Furthermore, what a man believes in his heart, so is he. Create a habit of thinking you are who God says you are and write down that you are accomplishing your goals!Create a new path in your brain by changing your habits for 63 days.Set goal or dreams. Look at the big picture and work backward from monthly goals, weekly goals, and daily goals to accomplish them.

Goodbye, 2018!

Today TJ and I discuss highlights of the November Gratitude Challenge. We talk about some of the things I taught participants in the challenge.

Some of the key points are

Its okay to like yourself and your image. Be grateful for your image; you are created in God's image. You don't fit into a mold, be yourself. Everyone has a standard that God shows them to live by, what is yours. Look in the mirror and love what you see. How do we take our thoughts captive and renew our minds?

I hope you enjoyed our conversation today!

In this episode, Andrea discusses the Enneagram in depth. She talks about each number and tells us what each number can work on, areas we need to fight for and work on in our lives.

1-You are very driven, so you need to give yourself a break, you need to laugh. Also, try to see other's brokenness.

2-You are always helping others, so you need to splurge and pamper yourself. You also need to work on your humility.

3-You are really ambitious and usually really good at everything you do so you need to do something you aren't good at doing. Also, fight for your integrity.

4-You  are intuitive, so you need to focus on the positives, acceptance, and contentment.

5-You are a learner and a loner so you should work on connections with people being more generous with your time.

6-You are loyal and committed. You need to learn to lean into your feelings and don't bale on yourself and have courage.

7-You are an enthusiast and uninhibited, so you need to work on seeing something through and stick with it. You need to fight for sobriety.

8-You are decisive, self-confident but can be dominating. Work on surrender and recognize where you depend on people. Work on helping without expectation.

9-You are a peacemaker and avoid conflict. Work on having a differing opinion than others. Fight for engagement and action.

If you are struggling with finding your number you could look at the body centers. Numbers 8, 9, and 1 process information in the gut.

Numbers 2, 3, and 4 process information in the heart.

Numbers 5, 6, and 7 process information in the head.

You could also look at what motivates you when you and connect that with each number.

Andrea touched lightly on our preservation modes. Self-preservation, social preservation, and sexual preservation. If you would like to take the enneagram test on The Enneagram Institute website click here. Andrea also mentioned three books that she highly recommends reading that will help you understand the numbers better. The Path Between Us and The Road Back To You and The Sacred Enneagram. Today I talk with Kegan Wesley. Kegan is one of the pastors at Big Church  and The Refuge in Louisville.

We discuss how he found his purpose through the painful experiences in his life. When talking about his passion and drive to reach hurting people he quoted who he thought was John Wesley "I set myself of fire and people come to watch me burn." This is such a powerful quote and one I have watched him live out.

He references Psalm 37:4 "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart" as we discuss how God has a purpose for our lives.

The Mbasa bracelets he told us about have not been launched yet but stay tuned to the blog. We will let you know when they are available.

Having such a strong connection with his story of childhood sexual abuse, I'd like to offer a resource for anyone who needs help, advice, or would just like to be educated about childhood sexual abuse. Please go to Darkness to Light to learn more!

This week's podcast guest is Andrea Isaacs.  Andrea and her husband are the pastors of Hope City Church in Louisville, KY.  Today she and I talked about a personality model called the Enneagram.

You guys already know my goal for the podcast and for this blog is to inspire courage. Therefore, in my opinion, a personality test is a huge step in helping yourself find courage, confidence and overcome fearful situations.

I invite you to listen as Andrea explains more about each personality type. The enneagram gets deep and has a lot of nuanced detail but I challenge you to dig into this personality model and find out who you are. Which number do you think you are? Which number do you think you would like to be? Figure out the root of what drives you to do what you do and you will have opened up a whole new understanding of yourself and why you fear what you fear.

I hope you will enjoy this as much as I did.  We got through types 1-9, but this conversation was so in depth, we had to split it into two parts so make sure you listen to part two!
