1. What the Bible Is:

The Bible is God’s inspired Word, consisting of 66 books written by over 40 authors over 1,500 years. It tells one cohesive story through four major movements: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. It contains over 63,000 cross-references, showcasing its divine unity and interconnection. The Bible includes numerous prophecies.

2. How to Read the Bible:

Reading the Bible is not like reading a regular book. It requires a heart open to hearing from God and a willingness to be transformed by His Word.

Scripture: Psalm 119:105 (NLT) "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."

Here are some practical steps for reading the Bible:

a. Prayerfully: Begin with prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to open your understanding and speak to you through the Scriptures.

b. Consistently: Develop a daily habit of reading the Bible. Consistency helps build a deeper understanding and relationship with God's Word.

c. Contextually: Understand the context of the passages you read. Consider the historical and cultural background, and read verses in context to grasp their full meaning.

d. Meditatively: Meditate on the Scriptures. Reflect on what you read and allow it to sink into your heart and mind.

3. Why We Should Read the Bible:

Reading the Bible is essential for several reasons:

a. It Reveals God’s Character: The Bible shows us who God is—His holiness, love, justice, and mercy.

Scripture: Jeremiah 9:23-24 (NLT) "This is what the Lord says: 'Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken!'"

b. It Guides Our Lives: The Bible provides direction and wisdom for making decisions and living a godly life.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) "Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."

c. It Transforms Us: The Word of God has the power to transform our hearts and minds, conforming us to the image of Christ.

The Strength of a Mother’s Faith: Lessons from Biblical Matriarchs

In today's world, the traditional nuclear family faces various challenges. Easy divorce weakens marital commitment, while technology isolates family members despite being physically close. Dual-income families (Financial struggles) rely on daycare, changing caregiving roles. An anti-family campaign also impacts cultural values. I want to share strategies to strengthen family bonds and build resilience in this changing landscape.

[1Ti 5:8 NLT] 8 But those who won't care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.

[Psa 127:1-5 NLT] 1 A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. A psalm of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. 2 It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones. 3 Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. 4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands. 5 How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.

Family Building Big Idea #1- Be a Good Example: Walk it, like you talk it

“Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and do good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24 NCV).

[Jhn 13:14-15 NLT] 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

People and often times especially family don’t want to hear a sermon. They want to see Jesus’ example in your life.

One of the markers of True Success according to Rick Warren:

…..having those who know me the best respect and love me the most

and finishing well.”

Family Building Big Idea #2- Curate great conversations

[Deu 6:4-7 NLT] 4 "Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. 5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.

Thirty Million Words is a book that explains the importance of language in a child's development. The book outlines ways parents can help their children thrive during the first years of life.

The book discusses the 30 million word gap, which suggests that children up to age 4 from a lower socioeconomic status heard 30 million fewer words than children from a higher socioeconomic status.

Words are like medicine.

[Pro 16:24 NLT] 24 Kind words are like honey--sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.

Improved Achievement Test Scores — A University of Illinois study of 120 boys and girls ages 7 to 11 found that children who did well on standard achievement tests were those that had consistent quality meal time with their families.

Family Building Big Idea #3- Prayer Power

• [Phl 4:6 NLT] 6 Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.

• [Mar 9:23-24 NLT] 23 "What do you mean, 'If I can'?" Jesus asked. "Anything is possible if a person believes." 24 The father instantly cried out, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"

The Warning: The 4 C’s that Hinder Families

• Criticism:- Nagging and condemning are ineffective; focus on desired change.

• Comparison- Comparing uniqueness hampers growth and relationships.

• Complaining- always expressing dissatisfaction, or discontent about various aspects of their lives, situations, or the world around them

• Contentious- Likely to be combative

Remember, cultivating a positive environment is crucial for fostering growth and unity within the church family.

The opening line of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy is "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way".

In essence, happiness has common factors, but unhappiness is unique to each family.

There are four things we need to do when we are facing spiritual warfare in our lives:

1. Acknowledge the adversary.

1. Accept and Walk in your God-given authority.

2. Put on God’s armor.

3. Use your weapons to renew your mind

4. Reflect: Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT) - "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life."

5. Repent: Acts 3:19 (NLT) - "Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away."

6. Renew: Romans 12:2 (NLT) - "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) Statement: Understanding the big picture in our faith journey is crucial. We need to know the Gospel, live wisely, and experience the fullness of God's purposes, transforming ourselves and becoming agents of healing and reconciliation.

Text: [Mat 7:24-28 NLT] 24 "Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash." 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching

[Pro 9:10 NIV] 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Here I must take counsel of the gospel. ♦ How to Properly Receive Christ:

(1) To receive Christ is to receive all that He is. Jesus Christ is both Justifier and Justice-giver.

(2) To receive Christ is to receive all who are a part of Him

(3) To receive Christ is to give Him first place

♦ Know the Gospel in 3 sentences:

• We are separated from God due to sin.

• God sent His Son to bridge the gap and offer forgiveness, freedom, and eternal life.

• Accepting this sacrifice brings restoration and a new relationship with God.

♦ Explain the Apostle's Creed in 3 bullets:

• We believe in God the Father, creator of all things.

• We believe in Jesus Christ, His Son, our Savior and Lord.

• We believe in the Holy Spirit, the giver of life and guide for believers.

♦ The Eternal Purpose- God’s eternal purpose is that the fullness of his Son, Jesus Christ, would be displayed and expressed visibly through a vessel that would be a family/house for the Father, a body/bride for the Son and a temple for the Holy Spirit.

♦The Bible Summarized: The message of the Bible is twofold: to show how people can be saved from their sins through faith in Christ's atonement AND how to live all of life as a follower of God.

Jas 1:23 NIV] 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror

[1Ki 10:4-5 NLT] 4 When the queen of Sheba realized how very wise Solomon was, and when she saw the palace he had built, 5 she was overwhelmed. She was also amazed at the food on his tables, the organization of his officials and their splendid clothing, the cup-bearers, and the burnt offerings Solomon made at the Temple of the LORD.

Live wisely:

Living the great commandment: Loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and loving our neighbor as ourselves, fulfilling the essence of God's law and displaying His character.

The golden rule: Treating others as we would like to be treated, demonstrating empathy, kindness, and fairness in our interactions, reflecting the selfless love of Christ.

Empowering of the great companion (Holy Spirit): Inviting the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit into our lives, who empowers, guides, and comforts us, enabling us to live a life of faith, obedience, and spiritual fruitfulness.

Embrace supernatural stewardship- Health, Wealth and Metron (sphere of authority)

3. Have: Experience the Fullness

[Isa 26:3 NLT] 3 You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!

The word peace is the Hebrew word shalom, which speaks of wholeness; nothing missing and nothing broken. The word shalom encompasses health, security, good conditions, success, comfort, safety, happiness, wellness, wholeness, and soundness.

We must cultivate healthy self-awareness and nurture our relationship with God.

Reconciliation with our families and pursuing shalom, God's peace, are essential.

When we fully grasp our identity in Christ, we experience healing and restoration.

We must allow God to continue to renew our mind, give us a new heart and heal our bodies.

We should be passionate about possessing God’s presence, power and promises.

We should endeavor to serve and be like….

Praying like the tax collector

[Luk 18:11-13 NIV] 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' 13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

Help people like the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

Give like the Widow’s offering (Mark 12:41-44)

Serve like Martha, Listen Like Mary and Share your faith like the Samaritan at the Well (Luke 10:38-44 and John 4)

This Shalom should produce fruit

Evidence of Grace & Peace Seen in Our Beliefs, Behaviors, Boundaries and Blessings.

To know at times we will be devastated but not destroyed.

To at times feel lonely but know we’re never alone.

At times defeated but not dismayed. Broken but not shattered.

Struggling but not surrendering. Weary but not without hope.

Knocked down but not knocked out. Imperfect but not without purpose.

Faltering but not failing.

Lost but not without direction.

Stretched but not snapped.

Now, I challenge each one of you to take hold of the truths we have shared today. Dive deep into the Gospel, study God's Word with hunger and passion, seeking a revelation that surpasses mere knowledge.

Live wisely, not just as hearers of the Word, but as doers, loving sacrificially and treating others with kindness, compassion, and grace.

Embrace supernatural stewardship, recognizing that every area of our lives is an opportunity to honor God.

Step out in faith, trusting in His provision and guidance, and watch as He brings abundance and favor.

I tried to preach on Romans 16, when the big Homie Apostle Paul gave out his shout outs.

Main Points:

• Cheer for Each Other: In Romans 16, Paul demonstrates the importance of recognizing and appreciating the efforts of others in the Church. He sends personal greetings to more than 20 people, mentioning them by name, acknowledging their work and service. As a church, we should practice the same. We should cheer for each other, appreciate each other's work, no matter how big or small. Let's remember Hebrews 10:24: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds."

• Carrying Our Assignment Faithfully: Paul mentions several individuals in Romans 16, like Priscilla, Aquila, and Mary, who "worked very hard" in the Lord's service. They carried out their tasks diligently and faithfully. We, too, are called to be faithful in our assignments. It might be volunteering, serving in the choir, being an usher, or leading a Bible study group. We are to be faithful stewards, carrying our assignments with dedication and reverence for the Lord.

• Generosity in Service: As we carry our assignments, we must also be generous. In Romans 16:2, Paul refers to Phoebe, a woman who has been a "benefactor of many people, including me." Her generosity was recognized and praised. As believers, we should strive to emulate this quality. Generosity is not just about giving money; it's about giving our time, our energy, our talents, our love, and our care for others.

• Joy in Our Duties: Amidst all these, it's vital to find joy in our duties. Romans 12:12 tells us to "be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer." In fulfilling our assignments, let's do so with a spirit of joy, remembering the love Christ has for us and the hope we have in Him.

Introduction: Today, we gather to address the weariness, burnout, and questions that weigh on our hearts. But take heart, for in the midst of our struggles, there is hope and an opportunity for transformation. Let us reflect on God's Word, His promises, and the assurance that He can restore lost years and help us accelerate even as late bloomers. Just as restoration shows like "Restoring Homes" and "Pimp My Ride" breathe new life into old, worn-out spaces, God desires to renew, restore, and refresh our lives, transforming us into trophies and displays of His amazing grace.

Big Idea #1: Understanding Our Identity and God's Promises

• Cultivating a Vibrant Spiritual Life: Abide in Christ, for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Challenge: Honor God by caring for our bodies, nurturing our mental and emotional well-being, and cultivating a vibrant spiritual life. Don’t breakdown before the breakthrough.

Big Idea #3: God's Restoration and Acceleration

• Restoring Lost Years: God has the power to restore what seems lost, redeeming the time we may have thought was wasted (Joel 2:25).

• Late Bloomers: God's timing is perfect, and He can help late bloomers accelerate and fulfill their purpose according to His plan (James 1:4).

Challenge: Trust in God's ability to restore lost years and accelerate your purpose, embracing the unique journey He has for you.

TL;DR: Understand your identity in Christ, embrace God's promises, care for your holistic well-being, and trust in His restoration and acceleration for your life.

Sticky Statement: Embrace your true identity in Christ, hold fast to His promises, honor Him through your holistic well-being, and trust in His power to restore lost years and accelerate your purpose.

As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 10 "Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God's people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God's mercy." 11 Dear friends, I warn you as "temporary residents and foreigners" to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. 12 Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.

You see, in the Old Testament the lineage of kings and priests looked like this:

• From the tribe of Judah came the kings of Israel

• From the tribe of Levi came the priests of Israel

Royal Priesthood in the bible prior was Melchizedek and David when he had a tabernacle built and that tabernacle is the only OT tabernacle propecided in the NT to be rebuilt.

• Believers are called to be both a king and a priest, just as Jesus is both the King of kings and our forever High Priest.

• God said He would rebuild the tabernacle of David (Acts 15:16) where you are both a king and priest in the order of Melchizedek.

We are a royal priesthood, which means we have direct access and fellowship with God like a priest but are also called to expand the Kingdom of God and influence the world like a king.

Embracing a Prophetic Identity

• Define Prophetic: A word that reveals Jesus Christ, not merely a teaching but a present word from God concerning Christ. New Testament prophecy does the same. “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10).

• Prophetic utterances are given in the context of believers knowing the Lord together during the week and sharing Him in their gatherings (1 Corinthians 14). [1Co 14:3 NLT] 3 But one who prophesies strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.

• These words — or messages — shed light on Christ, magnify Him, and be edifying to those who hear it.

• a type of prophetic activity that made no claims to being the very word of God, but which was for the "strengthening, encouragement and comfort" of believers ( 1 Cor 14:3 ).

• "Cheer up, build up, and stir up" one another through prophetic words.

• Let our prophetic words be seasoned with discernment, humility, and love, bringing edification and encouragement.

Cultivating the Power of God's Spirit

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." - 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

• Embrace the power of God's Spirit, who empowers us for transformative living.

• Ask God to continue to heal and seal you.

• Ask God to give you the insight and foresight to break broken patterns in your life.

• Allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us, manifesting His power in our lives.

• Allow the Holy Spirit to awaken God’s word in your heart and give you a new vision of the abundant life within your context.

• What does victorious living look like in your situation?

Living with Purpose (Ephesians Model): Allow this illumination to help become your inspiration and faith framework

Major Theme: God’s Eternal Purpose concerning His Son and the ekklesia, which is His Body. No other book in the New Testament presents the eternal purpose more clearly than Ephesians.

Wealth: The heavenly calling. Ephesians 2:6 – points to our wealth and calling.

The church (ekklesia) has been called to SIT together in heavenly places in Christ.

Walk – Ephesians 4:1 – points to our walk and conduct. The church is called to WALK in Christ on the earth.

Warfare: The spiritual conflict. Ephesians 6:11 – points to our warfare and conflict.

The church is called to STAND firm against the schemes of the devil.

As we live this out collectively and individually we will see growth in our lives

Financial Flourishing:

• Embracing a prophetic identity enables individuals to seek God's guidance and direction in their financial decisions.

• Cultivating a desire for discipline and discipleship leads to wise stewardship of resources, helping individuals make sound financial choices.

Physical Flourishing:

• Creating an atmosphere of healing fosters physical well-being, as individuals experience not only spiritual but also physical healing.

• Embracing the power of God's Spirit provides strength and resilience to overcome physical challenges and pursue a healthy lifestyle.

Ascension Sunday: Launched from a table

[Act 1:3-11 NLT] 3 During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God. 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, "Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." 6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, "Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?" 7 He replied, "The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere--in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." 9 After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. 10 As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. 11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why are you standing here staring into heaven? • Christ's ascension is a pivotal event in the life of Jesus and the early church.

• It marked the conclusion of Jesus' earthly ministry and His return to the Father.

• The ascension validated Jesus' claims of divinity and affirmed His victory over sin and death.

• It established Jesus' ongoing role as the intercessor and mediator between God and humanity.

• The ascension provides hope and assurance of our future resurrection and eternal life with Christ.

We have to read the bible thematically and cinematically with first first-century eyes and 21st-century questions.

Remember I tell you to sit, soak and saturate yourself in the stories of the bible with the overarching theme

The Bible describes how God reigns, saves, and satisfies through covenant for his glory in Christ. - Theologian Andy Nasselli

The Bible contains four major themes: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration.These four themes provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the overarching narrative of the Bible and God's redemptive plan for humanity.

All this pointing to what’s called the Eternal purpose of God:

God's eternal purpose encompasses the preeminence of Christ,extending the fellowship of the Trinity to mankind, bearing God's image, ruling over creation,

• Desiring a family for the Father

• A bride for His Son

• Temple for the Spirit to permanently dwell.

• The Ascension of Jesus took place at a meal.

• The ancient world had courtyards and flat roofs where they would eat.

• Most tables were low to the ground and people ate with their fingers or spoons.

• Jesus' ascension signifies His victory over sin and death.

• He intercedes for us from His heavenly throne.

• The table stories and rituals play a significant role in our faith journey.

Application:

• Remember Christ will return

• Embrace the power of storytelling and table fellowship in building our identity as followers of Christ.

• Let us cultivate an atmosphere of inclusivity, warmth, and open dialogue around the table in our faith communities.

• From the birth in a humble feeding trough to the ascension from the table, Jesus' story invites us to gather, celebrate, and find healing in His presence

Closing

As we reflect on the glorious ascension of Jesus, let us remember the transformative power of table fellowship, storytelling, and the intercession of Christ. May we bring back the table, celebrate His presence, and embrace His healing for ourselves and the world.

• Three main points of the sermon: navigating the wilderness, excelling in exile, and rebuilding the walls in our lives

• The wilderness can be seen as a period of testing, trials, or uncertainty in one's life. This could include facing personal challenges, experiencing difficult relationships, or dealing with health issues.

• Walls represent the barriers or obstacles that we face in life, whether they are physical or emotional. These could include financial struggles, addictions, mental health issues, or broken relationships.

Navigating the Wilderness Through Faith

• The Wilderness Experience in the OT was to get not only them out of Egypt but Egypt out of them.

• Jesus' example of relying on God's Word and resisting temptation during His 40 days in the wilderness

• How we can follow Jesus' example by relying on God's promises and seeking His guidance in the wilderness of our own lives

Rebuilding the Walls in Our Lives Through Anointed Determination

[Neh 6:15 NIV] 15 So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.

• Nehemiah's example of leading the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem through faith and determination

Excelling in Exile Through Community

[Jer 29:4-7, 11 NLT] 4 This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem: 5 "Build homes, and plan to stay. Plant gardens, and eat the food they produce. 6 Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them so that you may have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! 7 And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare." ... 11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

• We are called to live fully and faithfully.

• Exile doesn't have to be a place of defeat. With the power of community and trust in God's plan, we can excel even in the midst of our toughest circumstances.

• How can you seek to make a positive impact and trust in God's plan during your own exile experience? Take time to reflect and commit to taking action towards personal growth and building community.

Conclusion:

Navigating the Wilderness Through Faith: In the OT the people needed the process of wilderness to get mature and polished and Jesus showed us how to rely on God's Word and resist temptation during His 40 days in the wilderness. We too can follow His example and rely on God's promises.

Rebuilding the Walls in Our Lives Through Determination: Nehemiah led the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls with faith and determination. We can follow his example by identifying areas in our lives that need rebuilding and working with our community to make it happen.

Excelling in Exile Through Community: The exiles in Jeremiah 29 trusted in God's plan and worked towards their surroundings' welfare. We can follow their example by trusting in God and seeking to make a positive impact during our own exile experiences.

I started with a recap from last week’s service when I spoke about the Blessing.

John 10:10b (NLT): "My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life."

We have the vision to be a church of leaders, who attend to have faith-filled & fueled and their lives and missions connected to the Kingdom of God.

Christ-Centeredness- We are convicted that His life, death, burial, and resurrection would form and inform every sector of who we are

Connection: Community of people who connect with God, and each other and become ambassadors in the Kingdom and their world

Celebration: We Celebrate Christ, Celebrate Each other, and Celebrate New followers of Christ and others in the kingdom. We believe in giving folks flowers while they’re still with us.

Collaboration: We aim to connect, cooperate and collaborate without compromise.

Christ Centeredness

Col 1:15-18 NLT] 15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can't see--such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. 18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.

Center your life in Christ, and you will be able to handle anything life throws at you. You won't be immune to hardship, but you will be able to face it with the peace and strength that only comes from Him.-Max Lucado

Connection

[Ecc 4:9-10 NLT] 9 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. 10 If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.

The communal nature of faith is emphasized in the Lord's Prayer, where Jesus taught His disciples to pray, "Our Father who art in heaven..." By addressing God as "our Father," Jesus teaches us that our relationship with God is not just personal, but also communal, as we are all part of His family.

We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."- Martin Luther King Jr

We are not saved to be selfish. We are saved to serve, and we are saved to be in community- Rick Warren

Celebration

[Psa 118:24 NLT] 24 This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.

"Celebration is a choice...You choose to celebrate the good things in life rather than focus on the negatives."- Joyce Meyers

God has many instances around food in the Bible to go with celebration. In the Old Testament, there were many feasts and festivals that God instituted, such as the Feast of Passover, the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost), and the Feast of Tabernacles. These feasts often involved communal meals, where families and communities would come together to celebrate and give thanks to God for His blessings.

In the New Testament, Jesus often used meals as a way to connect with people and share the Gospel. He famously fed the 5,000 and the 4,000, and He often ate with tax collectors and sinners, The Last Supper, where Jesus shared a final meal with His disciples before His crucifixion, is one of the most important meals in all of Christian history.

In Revelation 19:9, John writes, "Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!" This feast is a symbol of the great celebration that will take place in heaven when Jesus returns to establish His kingdom.

Collaboration

[1Co 12:12 NIV] 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.

OT: Tribes

NT: Apostles

Jesus Burial 2 men showed up that were not in the inner circle

Cooperation without Compromise

A great deal of fruit can emerge by finding out what the Lord is already doing in a particular city and joining arms with that work

Conclusion

God has called us to repent, declare Jesus as Lord, and Be Baptized.

Lived Saved, Sanctified, and Set apart.

Live among the world with a spirit of Excellence and expectancy of God’s love and power manifested in our lives.

To be a community that centers Christ, Connects, Celebrates, and Collaborates without compromise.

These values will help us flourish in life, work, family, and relationships as well.

The Fellowship of the Unashamed

I am part of the "Fellowship of the Unashamed."

The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line.

The decision has been made. I am a disciple of

Jesus Christ. I won't look back, let up, slow down,

back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present

makes sense, and my future is secure.

I am finished and done with low living, sight walking,

small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams,

chintzy giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position,

promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I now live by

presence, lean by faith, love by patience,

lift by prayer, and labor by power. My pace

is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my

road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions few,

my Guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought,

compromised, deterred, lured away, turned back,

diluted, or delayed.

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the

presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy,

ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander

in the maze of mediocrity.

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I must go until

Heaven returns, give until I drop, preach until all know,

and work until He comes. And when He comes to get

His own, He will have no problem recognizing me.

The Blessings of God: Unlocking His Abundant Provision

"May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace." - Numbers 6:24-26 (NLT)

God's blessing is a powerful and life-changing force that brings protection, favor, and peace. Let's trust in His goodness and invite His blessings into our lives today.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." - James 1:17 (NLT)

Definition: Blessings are undeserved gifts from God that demonstrate His grace, love, and provision for our lives.

Preface: God wants you to enjoy His blessings, not be controlled by them.

• Things don't have to perfect in order for you to be happy

• We're more a pilgrim than a tourist

• Happiness does not mean absence of problems.

Big Idea #1: Decide to have a blessing mindset

“The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”- Albert Einstein

When you think of God looking at you is he smiling or frowning? And what rubric do you use to form your answer to this question? Is it your own personal performance? If it is anything within you, then your response will be upon a shaky foundation. But if your answer is fixed upon Christ then it is sure and certain.

It’s easy to go throughout the world thinking that “there’s not enough to go around”, making an abundance mentality seem like a pipe dream. But is it true?

Many of us live in an environment with more opportunity and available resources than even a king had 1,000 years ago.

There’s Trillions of dollars in circulation.

Big #2 The Boys That came home with more than he left

The Boy Who Shared His Lunch

Scripture: John 6:1-15 (NLT)

[Jhn 6:8-10, 12-13 NLT] 8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. 9 "There's a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?" 10 "Tell everyone to sit down," Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) ... 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, "Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted." 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.

Main Takeaway: Sharing what we have with others is a way to unlock God's blessings in our lives.

Big Idea #3 Job's Blessings

[Job 42:10-13 NLT] 10 When Job prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes. In fact, the LORD gave him twice as much as before! 11 Then all his brothers, sisters, and former friends came and feasted with him in his home. And they consoled him and comforted him because of all the trials the LORD had brought against him. And each of them brought him a gift of money and a gold ring. 12 So the LORD blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys. 13 He also gave Job seven more sons and three more daughters.

Spiritual Lesson: Praying for others in difficult times can unlock God's blessings for us.

It’s been said Job’s friends talked about God but Job talked to God.

Problems and poverty can create a vicious cycle that is hard to break out of. When a person is constantly struggling to make ends meet and deal with challenges, it can lead to feelings of despair and hopelessness. This can cause them to become self-obsessed as they focus solely on their own problems and struggles

"When we focus on helping others, God can turn our trials into triumphs and our mess into a message."

The key to overcoming self-pity is to remember that you are not the only one with problems. Pray for others, and you'll be too busy to pity yourself." - Rick Warren

Big idea #4 Trusting God with Your Operating System

[Pro 3:5-6 NASB95] 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

Trust, Timing, Testimony

When we trust God with our days and dreams, He can turn them into a testimony of His faithfulness.

[Eph 3:20 NLT] 20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

When we surrender our days and dreams to God, He can make them bigger and better than we ever imagined. Let's trust His timing and His plan.

Big idea #5 Sowing and Reaping

[Gal 6:7 NLT] 7 Don't be misled--you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.

[2Co 9:6-8 NLT] 6 Remember this--a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. 7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully." 8 And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Blessed to be a blessing: Many folks in the prosperity gospel says you should give in order to get—and stops there. The Bible says you should give in order to get—so you can give even more away.

Big Idea #6 The Intangible Blessings

[Jos 14:10-11 NLT] 10 "Now, as you can see, the LORD has kept me alive and well as he promised for all these forty-five years since Moses made this promise--even while Israel wandered in the wilderness. Today I am eighty-five years old. 11 I am as strong now as I was when Moses sent me on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then.

[Deu 29:5 NLT] 5 For forty years I led you through the wilderness, yet your clothes and sandals did not wear out.

[Eph 1:3 NLT] 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.

[Mat 19:29 NLT] 29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will inherit eternal life.

Going the Extra Mile: The Necessity of Effort for Advancing God's Kingdom

Scriptures: [Mat 5:41 NLT] 41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.

[Gal 6:7-9 ESV] 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

[Heb 6:10 ESV] 10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

Building a great church requires great people who are willing to put forth great effort, intelligently handle inconvenience, and make sacrifices with a smile

the same principles that apply to building a great church can also be applied to building a great life. Effort, comfort in discomfort, and willingness to sacrifice are all important pillars to building a fulfilling life.

One thing I learned: Entropy. Gravity, Inertia, Resistance and Age is real

• "My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that." - Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

• You have to get ahead just to stay even

• "Great effort springs naturally from great attitude." - Pat Riley

I. Effort:

Scripture: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters" - Colossians 3:23

Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort.- John Ruskin

"The difference between try and triumph is just a little umph!" - Marvin Phillips

• About the only thing that comes to us without effort is old age. - Gloria Pitzer

Next Step: Reflect on your current level of effort in your service to God's Kingdom. How can you increase your effort?

Big Idea #2: Understanding Inconvenience

Scripture: "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." - Romans 8:18

An inconvenience is an unrecognized opportunity. - Confucius

God Inconvenience: Abraham and Moses in the OT

Jesus and Inconvenience: Fisherman’s Boat, Zacchaeus throw me a lit party, Blind man let me spit on your eyes and tell you to walk to a lake, Let me ask you to extend your messed up hand when you snuck into the temple, Watch Jesus tell pro fisherman how to fish, Watch Jesus walk with a man to heal his daughter then stop and heal another women, Watch the apostles go on their first mission journey then have to feed thousands.

Next Step: Identify an inconvenience you face in serving God's Kingdom. Pray for strength to endure and find joy in the opportunity to sacrifice for God.

Big Idea #3: Embracing Sacrifice

"Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'" - Matthew 16:24

Sacrifices were a pivotal part of Old Testament worship of God.

• The burnt offering.

• The grain offering.

• The peace offering.

• The sin offering.

• The trespass offering.

As living sacrifices, we are to imitate Christ and give our complete devotion to God (Matthew 22:37; Ephesians 5:1-2). We must freely offer our whole being to God (including our thoughts, will, heart and actions).

"Sacrifice is a part of life. It's supposed to be. It's not something to regret. It's something to aspire to." - Mitch Albom

We’re spiritually wired to sacrifice a part of our present for the future but the enemy has come and convinced everyone to sacrifice their future for the present.

Sacrifice is giving up something now to have a better tomorrow, debt is giving up a better tomorrow to have something now.

Sacrifice is giving up something to a higher principle. Saying, “It’s more important to me to pursue this higher aim than to enjoy what I have in the present.” That’s sacrifice

Next Step: Identify an area in which you can make a sacrifice for God's Kingdom. Pray for the courage to follow through and trust in God's provision.

Conclusion

"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17

Next Step: Commit to giving your best effort, embracing inconvenience and sacrifice, and trusting in God's provision and guidance as you serve His Kingdom.

So, at the end of the day, I just want to remind you guys that staying focused on Christ, staying faithful, and staying connected are all super important when it comes to living a happy and fulfilling life.

Remember that it's all about staying close to God, staying true to our beliefs, and staying connected with our friends and family who share our faith. When we do these things, we'll feel happier, more fulfilled, and more connected to the world around us. So let's commit to making these things a priority in our lives and see what amazing things God can do through us!

Revealing: A greater revealing and unveiling of Christ. We can never outgrow or completely Grasp the Greatness, Glory and Grandeur of Christ, but we can continue to set our hearts on the path to know him more and more because to truly know him his to truly love him.

Summit’s Mission: To raise up followers of Christ that are unshakable.

Filled with joy, humility and willingness to serve selflessness

Women and men who know how to pray instead of panic, worship instead of worry and fear God’s disapproval more than man's.

Healing: Every time we gather there’s a grace in that place for healing, wholeness and renewal that leads to elevation because the Holy Spirit Secretes secrets to those who desire more of God.

Sealing: [Eph 1:13 NIV] 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,

the mark, seal, and watermark of Christ on your life is important because it serves as a testimony to the world, evidence of your salvation, and a display of the fruit of the Spirit in your life. By allowing Christ to be evident in your life, you can have a powerful impact on those around you and bring glory to God.

• Testimony to the world: When people see the mark, seal, and watermark of Christ on your life, it serves as a powerful testimony to the world of the transformative power of the gospel.

• Evidence of salvation: The mark, seal, and watermark of Christ on your life is evidence that you have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus.

• Display of the fruit of the Spirit: When people see the mark, seal, and watermark of Christ on your life, they should also see the fruit of the Spirit in your life, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

• Attraction of like-minded individuals: When people see the mark, seal, and watermark of Christ on your life, it can attract other seekers and Christians who are on a similar frequency and seeking a deeper relationship with God. Just like how water seeks its own level, individuals who are walking in the Spirit and bearing the fruit of the Spirit are naturally drawn to one another.

Each week, we should focus on revealing Christ's love and light in our lives. This involves seeking healing for our hearts and souls and making a deliberate effort to strengthen the seal of God on our lives. By doing so, we will bring forth fruit that brings glory to God and show the world the truth and love of Christ.

Romans 8:19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

Today I want to look at 3 Power Principles that I’ve seen in my 25 year in ministry.

• Resist Bitterness

• Remain Poor in Spirit

• Rethink Success

TLDR: In Christ, we reject bitterness, cultivate a humble spirit, and seek true success through obedience to God's will.

Memory Aid: With Christ as guide, bitterness will flee, in humility, true success we’ll see.

• esist Bitterness

"Bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die."

Let’s start this point by mentioning Jesus was never bitter:

• Not about the circumstances of his birth

• Rumors about his mother

• The time his neighbors try to push him off the cliff

[Luk 4:27-30 NLT] 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, but the only one healed was Naaman, a Syrian." 28 When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious. 29 Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff, 30 but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way.

• Or at his family

[Luk 8:19-21 NLT] 19 Then Jesus' mother and brothers came to see him, but they couldn't get to him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told Jesus, "Your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want to see you." 21 Jesus replied, "My mother and my brothers are all those who hear God's word and obey it."

• Or at Paul

[Act 7:56-60 NIV] 56 "Look," he said, "I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." 57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. 59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Not only will bitterness sink your ship; it will drown others as well.

Attitudes are contagious, and misery loves company. If you drink the poison of bitterness, you'll slowly die. But you'll also kill others because bitter people spout acid all over the earth.

Nothing so injures the human spirit as the injuries inflicted by other believers.

[Zec 13:6 ESV] 6 And if one asks him, 'What are these wounds on your back?' he will say, 'The wounds I received in the house of my friends.'

• Remain Poor in Spirit

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.-

MATTHEW 5:3

Being "poor in spirit" is a key aspect of the Christian faith, which involves recognizing one's own

spiritual poverty, dependence on God's grace and forgiveness, humility and acknowledgement of one's own sinfulness, and a willingness to turn away from it.

Jesus, in his humility, exemplified being poor in spirit. As stated in Matthew 5:3, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Let go of earthly desires and follow Jesus' example of humility. Seek God's kingdom above all else

• Rethink Success

The World will selling you the dream that success is strictly salary, status, success, passion, possessions, power, prestige

I want to help you rethink your definition of success. Success according to God’s dictionary differs drastically from success in the world.

But God’s view of success is quite different. [1Co 1:26-31 NLT]

Think HOPS Humble, Obedience, Purpose, Servant

Humble: Attractor factor for God’s favor and power

Obedience: Obedience is the pathway to blessings and fulfillment

Purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever

Servant:A servant mindset can also help to foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration and help you be a rainmaker. (person who drives growth)

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success." - Rick Warren reminds

"Success is not about what we do, but about who we are." - Frank Viola reminds us that true success is not found in our actions, but in our character and our relationship with God.

Conclusion

• Resist Bitterness

• Remain Poor in Spirit

• Rethink Success

TLDR: In Christ, we reject bitterness, cultivate a humble spirit, and seek true success through obedience to God's will.

[Jhn 13:14-15 NLT] 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.

[1Pe 3:15 NLT] 15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.

[1Th 5:14-18 NLT] 14 Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. 15 See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. 16 Always be joyful. 17 Never stop praying. 18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 4:2 - "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."

• Highlight the importance of these principles in promoting mental health and well-being, particularly as we age.

• Emphasize that one of the core values of the church is celebration and how it is important for members of the church to celebrate and encourage each other, as well as celebrate testimonies.

• Testifying

[Rev 12:10-11 NLT] 10 Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, "It has come at last--salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. • The importance of being ready to share our personal testimony of how Jesus has changed our lives

• Highlight the positive impact that sharing our testimony can have on our mental health and well-being, particularly as we age.

• Being willing to testify about our faith can also improve communication skills, as it requires us to clearly and effectively convey our beliefs to others. Additionally, sharing our testimony can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, which are common among older adults.

The 1-1-1 Method

Every single evening, at the end of your work day, open up your journal and write down three simple points:

• 1 win from the day

• 1 point of tension, anxiety, or stress

• 1 point of gratitude

It takes just 5 minutes at the end of the day.

• Additional suggestion: Encourage Summit Partners to start a weekly journaling practice to help them reflect on the ways that God is working in their lives and make it easier to share their testimony when the opportunity arises.

• We often remember the bad better than the good

• We remember breakdowns but often forget breakthroughs.

Encouraging

• The role of church members in building up and cheering up one another

• Highlight the positive impact that encouragement can have on mental health and well-being, particularly as we age.

• 1 Thessalonians 5:11 - "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

• African Proverb: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

• The most common greeting in the Zulu tribe is Sawubona.- It literally means “I see you, you are important to me and I value you”.

• Data: According to a study by the National Institutes of Health, social support, including encouragement, is positively associated with mental and physical health outcomes

• individuals whose signature strength is encouragement tend to have a positive view of others, are genuinely invested in the welfare of others, and are excited to see others grow and develop (see also Carns & Carns, 2006, for similar insights from Adlerian psychology).

• Encouraging others can also increase social capital, as it helps to foster positive relationships and a sense of community among those around us.

Serving

• The importance of coming to church ready to serve and give, including the practice of tithing

• "Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

• We saying Tithing for the memory device but you can say

giving cheerfully, sacrificial, proportionate and systematic giving

• Supporting scripture: Mark 10:45 - "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

• Additional scripture: Malachi 3:10 - "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it."

• Quote: "Tithing is not just a biblical concept, it's a business principle that has been proven to work for thousands of years." - Tony Robbins

• By tithing and giving to the church, we are not only fulfilling our duty as Christians, but also demonstrating our faith and trust in God's provision. Additionally, Giving can be a powerful tool for financial management and growth.

• Emphasize that when we serve and give, it is important to come to God's gathering not empty-handed, but with a willing heart to give back to the community and to God.

• main points of the sermon, using the mnemonic device to help remember the key elements (Testifying, Encouraging, Serving, and Tithing)

• Highlight the positive impact that these principles can have on mental health and well-being, particularly as we age.

[Luk 12:35-36 NLT] 35 "Be dressed for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 as though you were waiting for your master to return from the wedding feast. Then you will be ready to open the door and let him in the moment he arrives and knocks.

*Jesus desires for me to have an expectant watchfulness for His return.

[Eph 6:11 NLT] 11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

*How to Put the Armor of God On? You put on the full armor of God by believing what God has done for you through Jesus Christ (Eph. 1-3) and by living out the elements of the armor in every area of your life (Eph. 4-5).

[Gen 41:14 NLT] 14 Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he went in and stood before Pharaoh.

*Be ready for God to give you favor and open doors.

He didn’t allow culture or circumstances to stop him from walking into his destiny.

1. Smell right: Spiritual Power has a scent

It’s been said that success has a scent!

How do hotels use scent marketing?

As A.B. Simpson once put it, “Preaching without spiritual aroma is like a rose without fragrance. We can only get the perfume by getting more of Christ.”

[Psa 45:8 NLT] 8a Myrrh, aloes, and cassia perfume your robes. In ivory palaces the music of strings entertains you.

[Mat 26:6-8 NLT] 6 Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy. 7 While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head. 8 The disciples were indignant when they saw this. "What a waste!" they said.

Remember: the resurrected Christ has a scent. He emits the everlasting fragrance of resurrection.*

3. Live Biblically: Embrace the Divine Design

Daniel 11:32 New King James Version (NKJV) 32 Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall [a]corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.

• Orthodoxy is right doctrine or right belief in the truth.

• Orthopraxy is right practice or right implementation of truth to life.

orthopathos or orthopathy? The short answer is right affection or righteous passion.

Conclusion:

Big Idea #1:-Get Dressed: The king is calling you

Put on your new nature. New wine needs to put it new wineskins.

Put on your spiritual armor and be ready for your promotion and elevation.

BIG IDEA #2: -Smell right: Spiritual Power has a scent: When giving God your best becomes a decision, discipline and delight the fragrance of God’s grace will be on your life.

Big Idea #3: Live Biblically: Embrace the Divine Design

We are called to allow God’s word and presence to impact our Head, Hands and Heart.

Place of Promise : [Luk 2:1-5 NLT] 1 At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. 2 (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. 4 And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David's ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. 5 He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant.

[Mic 5:2 NLT] 2 But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.

Place of Provision: [Mat 2:9-12 NLT] 9 After this interview the wise men went their way. And the star they had seen in the east guided them to Bethlehem. Place of Purpose: [Mat 2:19-23 NLT] 19 When Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt. 20 "Get up!" the angel said. "Take the child and his mother back to the land of Israel, because those who were trying to kill the child are dead." 21 So Joseph got up and returned to the land of Israel with Jesus and his mother. 22 But when he learned that the new ruler of Judea was Herod's son Archelaus, he was afraid to go there. Then, after being warned in a dream, he left for the region of Galilee. 23 So the family went and lived in a town called Nazareth. This fulfilled what the prophets had said: "He will be called a Nazarene."

God's guidance is a precious gift that we can trust in and rely on. When we trust in God's guidance, we can be confident that he will lead us in the right way and that he will use us to accomplish his purposes in the world. Let us be open to God's guidance and follow where he leads, knowing that he is with us every step of the way.

Hi,

Today I preached a sermon on the big picture of being a disciple of Christ,

It may be one of the fullest and most dense 15 min sermon you heard in awhile. I covered a lot of ground in less than 15 min.

Text: Eph 3:9-11 NLT] 9 I was chosen to explain to everyone this mysterious plan that God, the Creator of all things, had kept secret from the beginning. 10 God's purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.

[Tit 1:2 NLT] 2 This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God--who does not lie--promised them before the world began.

[Mat 28:18-20 NIV] 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

BIG IDEA: We have to see the cosmic impact of our decision to become not just followers of Christ but Disciples of Christ that will take the the great commandment and great commission seriously.

We have to be committed to continue the legacy of a remnant of people that continues the carry the mystery and history of the church.

The big big picture

1. God’s Eternal Purpose is Conceived in Eternity Past.

2. Man (humanity) is Created to Fulfill God’s Eternal Purpose.

3. Man (humanity) Falls

4 Jesus Comes to Save Man (humanity)

1. Jesus Imparts the Divine Life and Gives Birth to the Organism of His Body

2. The Body of Christ Fulfills God’s Eternal Purpose on the Earth

7.Jesus Christ Marries His Bride and Christ Becomes All in All

The lesson from Star Wars

God sends His Son to the earth to lay the groundwork for His eternal plan. Jesus and the Twelve Disciples prefigure God’s eternal plan in Galilee.

At the appointed time has come. God the Father sends the Eternal Son into the earth. The Son will become the embodiment of all the symbols embedded in creation. He will also fulfill all that the nation of Israel foreshadowed.

Jesus completed the story of Israel. But He actually did more than complete the story. He replayed it. For instance, Jesus was tested in the wilderness for 40 days just as Israel was tested in the wilderness for 40 years. Jesus experienced the exact temptations that Israel experienced in the wilderness. In fact, what Jesus said to satan on three occasions were direct quotes from Moses to Israel during Israel’s wilderness temptation. Jesus chose twelve disciples, which represented the twelve tribes of Israel..

.There were men and women whose lives were shaken at the core. There were people who sacrificed it all for the church.

Every since the resurrection to now the kingdom of God has faced challenges, crisis and threats but the church keeps on trucking because there’s always a remnant of believers that take the responsibility of discipleship seriously.

What do Disciples DO?

• DISCIPLES LOVES GOD, THEIR NEIGHBOR AND EACH OTHER

• DISCIPLES ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER

• DISCIPLES FELLOWSHIP

• DISCIPLES PRAY & WORSHIP

• DISCIPLES STUDY THE BIBLE

• DISCIPLES SUFFER WITH SUPERNATURAL STRENGTH

• DISCIPLES MULTIPLY (FROM INSIDE OUT)

[Rom 8:18-19 NIV] 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

The World is looking for devoted and dynamic disciples

A group of followers who are willing to "waste" their lives on Jesus... both individually and corporately.

The earth awaits such a group.

Kingdom continues because of this remnant.

God loves weddings!

In Genesis 1 and 2, the Bible opens up with a woman and a man. In Revelation 21 and 22, the Bible closes with a woman and a man. The Bible opens up with a wedding, and it ends with a wedding. From beginning to end, the Bible teaches that God is both able and willing to work supernaturally in the lives of His people. Miraculous or supernatural healing is a legitimate part of God’s activity.

This does not exclude proper consultation with doctors & therapist, nor does it overlook our responsibility to treat our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit and thus keep healthy in the process.

Nevertheless, there are times when we must and should call out to the Lord for help no doctor can give. Healing is a significant part of our inheritance as Christians.

It has often been misunderstood. It has been discarded where the church has lost touch with the desire of God to heal. It has been abused by unscrupulous individuals preying upon the sick for financial or ministry gain.

“He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases” (Psalm 103:3).

The concept of healing is not the issue. God does heal. However, God does not always cure, and there may not need to be a cure.Scholar and Methodist minister Kathy Black makes the distinction between healing and cure. She contends that cure has to do with eliminating the symptoms or removing the disability altogether. Healing, however, does not always imply a cure. Healing is finding “a sense of well-being into a person’s life, a sense of comfort, support, and peace.”[2] Healing can happen amid having a disability.- The Rev. Kyle Stevenson

Disability theologian Nancy Eiesland highlights that the Resurrected Lord rises with the wounds in his hands and side. His body has been raised in a non-normative body that had lived under the disabling force of the Roman empire that would ultimately execute him. He is raised up with a disability intact, Eiesland argues.[6] In the risen Christ, we can meet Jesus, who is victorious over death and is powerful while still having a non-normative, disabled, and vulnerable body. Encountering a risen Jesus who is not cured and resurrected with a scared body is healing for me.

Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. (NLT)

In short, if we ever get to the place where Jesus Christ isn’t enough … if we ever get to the place where we feel we can advance beyond Him … then we haven’t met the Christ of Colossians. And our Christ is too small.

“every revival and restoration in the church has been a rediscovery of some aspect of Christ in the process of answering this critical question. In fact, three features are present in every awakening in the history of the Christian church:

Today’s sermon was called ‘A Church of Faith, Hope & Love’.

Today my goal is to share with you some big ideas from the writings of Paul with the hope of inspiring us to become an unmovable, unshakable and unstoppable church.

The Apostle Paul wrote to

Romans needed to be reminded of faith

Thessalonians needed to be reminded of Hope

Corinthians Needed to be reminded of love.

Didn’t get a chance to really mention how the book of Romans touched the lives of 3 men of God that helped shape the western world and the body of Christ.

St. Augustine (North African Genius that wrote city of God), Martin Luther (95 theses-Protestant reformation) and Revivalist John Wesley

1. In the summer of 386, a young man wept in the backyard of a friend. He knew his life of sin and rebellion against God left him empty and feeling dead; but he just couldn’t find the strength to make a final, real decision for Jesus Christ. As he sat, he heard children playing a game and they called out to each other these words: “Take up and read! Take up and read!” Thinking God had a message to him in the words of the children, he picked up a scroll laying nearby and began to read: not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires (Romans 13:13b-14). He didn’t read any further; he didn’t have to. Through the power of God’s Word, Augustine gained the faith to give his whole life to Jesus Christ at that moment.

2. In August of 1513, a monk lectured on the Book of Psalms to seminary students, but his inner life was nothing but turmoil. In his studies he came across Psalm 31:1: In Thy righteousness deliver me. The passage confused Luther; how could God’s righteousness do anything but condemn him to hell as a righteous punishment for his sins? Luther kept thinking about Romans 1:17, which says, the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “He who through faith is righteous shall live.” The monk went on to say: “Night and day I pondered until... I grasped the truth that the righteousness of God is that righteousness whereby, through grace and sheer mercy, he justifies us by faith. Therefore I felt myself to be reborn and to have gone through open doors into paradise... This passage of Paul became to me a gateway into heaven.” Martin Luther was born again, and the Reformation began in his heart.

3. In May of 1738, a failed minister and missionary reluctantly went to a small Bible study where someone read aloud from Martin Luther’s Commentary on Romans. As the failed missionary said later: “While he was describing the change which God works in the heart through faith in Christ, I felt my heart strangely warmed. I felt I did trust in Christ, Christ alone, for my salvation, and an assurance was given me that he had taken my sins away, even mine.” John Wesley was saved that night in London.

So What:

We’re still in needed of Faith in a culture that wants us to worship politics, materialism and secularisms

We still love with a culture that wants to have a spiritual power contest, We still need Godly love with a biblical view in light of the culture trying to shape our worship.

We need biblical and Godly love that is not afraid to not be liked.

“Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”- Rick Warren

We need Hope in the midst of pandemics, Wars, Crime, recession we need to have a Christ Centered Biblical hope that gives us peace in the midst of the storms of life.

Now What:

Commit to reading Paul’s letters, Commit to helping us build an unshakable and immovable church, pray about inviting a friend, becoming a financial partner and volunteering once every 2 months.

God is looking for those who will worship him in spirit and in truth. For brave, faithful and joyful for church that will fearlessly celebrate the goodness of God in the midst of strange times.

Many of your have known there was a special calling on your life for a long time.

A future and a Hope: God’s faithfulness in suffering

Everyone loves Jer 29:11

Short Text: [Jer 29:11 NLT] 11 For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Big Idea of the Message: We often take this and other verses out of context when we believe that God will allow only good things to happen to us. Looking at it in context reveals that it is a promise of delayed relief to those deep in suffering, not a promise that we will never encounter suffering.

Let’s get the context together Jer 29:1-14

There’s a ton to unpack here but let’s first establish

Who is the prophet jeremiah

Jeremiah was called not to marry, have kids, go to weddings or funeral (No social currency, no legacy, no outward blessings)

Jeremiah has been dubbed “the weeping prophet” because of the often gloomy nature of his message and the grief he expressed for his people.

In fact, Jeremiah’s life work might be summed up as preaching a message to a people who would not listen. They never repented. They never turned back. (Noah?)

No family. No children. No community. No receptivity to his message. No legacy?

To the contrary, even without those things and even without family, Jeremiah’s message—his legacy—endures to this day in the best-selling book of all time. It’s a spiritual legacy. His legacy will be no less vibrant than those with a spouse or children.

Indeed, our legacy is impacted by our faith, faithfulness and fruit…..all of us can live out that big idea.

1. Bloom where you're planted.

Build houses and settle down – Don’t live in tents as your ancestors did in the desert. Make Babylon your home. active building of house and garden (care for building and body)

Plant gardens and eat what they produce – Provide nourishment for yourself from your land.

Marry and have children – Move forward with your lives. Find a way to have fun.

Increase in numbers – Don’t let your generations die out.- personal choices like marriage and family then encouragement for family lines to continue.

Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. – Pray for your neighbors to succeed! prayer for good things

Pray to the Lord for the city. If the town prospers, so will you. – Don’t wish harm on the people around you. Instead, look for ways for everyone to thrive!

Don’t be deceived by false prophets. – Seek to discern God’s truth alone. Spiritual life – active choice to avoid the wrong prophets. Counterfeit agents touched real money a ton to know fake.

God never says to try to control or rebel against the Babylonians in any way. The only thing the Israelites are called to do is pray for their prosperity and avoid listening to their false prophets (possible doom & gloom or prosperity).

8. What if we learned:

To enjoy God no matter when and where we are

Know live is christ and to die is Gain.

As we mature, awaken, grow and flow in the realm of the spirit I pray you will….

Laugh at the absurdity of the world and the days ahead (Prov 31:25)

Endure our Thorn in the flesh with Grace (2 Cor 12:7-10)

Practice spiritual disciplines, solitude, journaling, and contemplation so well that you can what Tim Ferriss says from Siddhartha I can think, wait and fast…. “I can think” → Having good rules for decision-making, and having good questions you can ask yourself and others. “I can wait” → Being able to plan long-term, play the long game, and not misallocate your resources. “I can fast” → Being able to withstand difficulties and disaster. Training yourself to be uncommonly resilient and have a high pain tolerance.

You will begin to center your life according to the kingdom of God and the Lord’s eternal purpose which is hidden in the message of God’s Body, Family, Building, and Bride. (Eph. 2:19–22, Eph. 5:25–32; 1:22–23; 2:15–16; 3:6)

You and I will begin to lose the fear of rejection and death.

We will begin to change our wineskins so we can partake of the wine of the spirit. A new wine that will help us be bold, restore innocence and joy.

May the Holy Spirit help your faith grow. Don’t forget, the disciples couldn’t cast out a demon because of their unbelief. Not because it wasn’t God’s will. (Matt 17: 15-21)

9. Conclusion

Big Idea of the Message: We take this verse out of context when we believe that God will allow only good things to happen to us. Looking at it in context reveals that it is a promise of delayed relief to those deep in suffering, not a promise that we will never encounter suffering.

Here’s yesterday’s sermon.

1. Thank God for our heavenly Father

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.'" Matthew 6:9 (NIV)

In the Old Testament, God is called “Father” only seven times.

Then Jesus came along and said this is how people should pray: Modeling Relational Reverence Jesus calls Yahweh Elohim “Father.” Jesus uses the expression more than 150 times when he refers to God.

FORGOT TO SAY: Abba means “Father, I will obey you.” Abba is not merely about intimacy; it’s also about authority.

2. Thank God for our natural Dads

[Luk 17:11-19 NLT]

Jesus also notices our lack of gratitude.

Cured and Healed.

Your faith has made you well: There was an extra healing for this tenth leper. When Jesus said this, He likely meant God’s work within the man’s mind & heart. The other lepers had whole bodies, but still possibly had sick hearts, minds and ways.

3. Forgive your fathers & perhaps seek forgiveness

most of us would love to believe that our parents have tried their best, but due to our fallen sinful nature (Romans 3:23) even the godliest of parents can mess up from time to time.

Get along with you siblings in order to bless your father’s heart.

Big Idea #1: Remember Jesus Favorite Place: Bethany

He was rejected from Bethlehem (there was no room for Him there), to Nazareth (a prophet is without honor in His own hometown), to His own family (His sisters and brothers didn’t believe on Him), to Samaria (James and John wanted the city to shake and bake for rejecting Jesus), to Jerusalem itself (which crucified Him). God in flesh was rejected everywhere He went.

During the six days preceding His crucifixion, Jesus visited Jerusalem in the daytime and retreated to Bethany to spend the night. He spent the last six nights of His earthly life in Bethany, where He found refuge, repose, safety, acceptance, and peace.

Expectancy-Expectancy is simply the deeply rooted belief that God is going to move in response to our persistent & passionate prayer.

[Heb 13:8 NIV] 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

I want to make you aware of a victim mindset that I’ve seen in the body of Christ.

THE VICTIMHOOD MINDSET

Constantly seeking recognition of one’s victimhood

we currently live in a culture where many political and cultural groups and individuals emphasize their victimhood identity and compete in the “Victimhood Olympics.

Avoid Feeling Sorry For Yourself

“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.” (Proverbs 15:13)

There were 2 powerful Prophets in the bible that went thru a battle of Self Pity. Jonah and Elijah.

SELF-PITY ATTRACTS ATTACKS, blood in the water. Self-pity, by its very definition, is self-indulgent.

Self-pity is one of the enemy’s prime strategies for imprisoning your soul and station.

Rather than looking inward or outward, we need to be looking upward. This is the one and only way to rid ourselves of self-pity and be truly happy.

It’s hard to win when you whine

[Phl 2:14-15 NLT] 14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.

Don’t whine but SHINE

Resist & Persist

[Jas 4:7 NIV] 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Take courage faith fam! You can resist the devil because Christ already won the victory. Don’t allow your own sin to give Satan a foothold in your life. Stay humbly submitted to God and actively pursue him every day.

Persist

Matt 7:7-8 AMP “[a]Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened.

ASk for VICTORY, SEEK God for strategy and KNOCK on heaven’s door and doors of opportunity.

Remember the parable of the Persistent Friend (luke 11) Persistent Widow. LUKE 18. There’s a Kafka story called BEFORE THE LAW

Conclusion

I pray you all will have a little more Strength for the Battle and Journey.

We see in the life of Christ the refusal of Jesus to embrace a victim mindset (12 y/o, Never mentioned birth in a stable or Egypt, Promotion of brothers after the resurrection)

We see Jesus avoiding self-pity when he was arrested and put on trial, he knew there was a bigger picture (Heb 12:2)

We see Christ Resisting the Enemy and Teaching his disciples to PRAY with Persistence. Luke 11:5-13 and Luke 18:1-8

May God give you the wisdom and strength to overcome gatekeepers stopping you from reaching your goals.

Prayer:

Dear God, By the power of the Holy Spirit please give me strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I am afraid, wisdom when I feel foolish, comfort when I am alone, hope when I feel rejected, and peace when I am in turmoil. Teach me to know my identity, walk-in my inheritance and seek to live with boldness and joy in Jesus’ name

Here’s the sermon I preached yesterday.

It was ok, I’m no Mike Todd or Steve Furtick but I shared a simple message to my church that may encourage you.

Title: Remind, Warn and Encourage.

As a pastor of a wonderful church, it’s my job to often remind, warn and encourage the folks God has allowed me to minister to.

Big Idea:

Remind: Apostle’s Creed and The Gospel

The Apostle’s Creed: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended to the dead; the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, and He will come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; one holy church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

Gospel:

Tim Keller describes the gospel...“The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”

The simple gospel: (1) God made you and wants to have a relationship with you, (2) but your sin separates you from God. (3) Jesus took the punishment your sins deserved, (4) so if you repent from sins and trust in him for your salvation, you will be forgiven, justified, and accepted freely by grace, and indwelt with his Spirit until you die and go to heaven.

How do we live out this revelation in community? Thru the indwelling power of Christ thru the Holy Spirit

[Gal 2:20 NLT] 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Paul’s central message was “Not I, but Christ” and “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Warning

The woman caught in adultery (go and sin no more) and Zacchaeus (I will payback) were both challenged to change after an encounter with Jesus.

Who is influencing who?

B. Stewardship

In the game of life Stewardship is both a good defense and offense.

Give a portion back to God. God blesses whatever you put him first in.

Keep a portion for yourself. Commit to saving money every time you make money.

Try to Live on 80-70 percent. Only fools spend everything they get.

Encouragement

Your story is not over til it’s over and even then it’s not over

The Story of Leah: [Gen 29:17, 30-35 NLT]

She went from feeling rejected, ugly, and unappreciated to giving birth to the pillars of Israel and to Judah who was a descendant of Yeshua ben Yosef the Messiah himself.

Here’s my recent sermon: Shifting Your Story For God's Glory

Big Idea: We are changed when we behold Christ Glory, we must commit to examine, draw close and study Christ for the rest of our lives. This change causes us to be more Kingdom Minded.

Text Scriptures: [Psa 24:10 NLT] 10 Who is the King of glory? The LORD of Heaven's Armies--he is the King of glory. Interlude

[2Co 4:5-7 NLT] 5 You see, we don't go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus' sake. 6 For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. 7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

[Heb 1:3 NLT] 3 The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

[2Co 3:18 NLT] 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

[Eph 1:7-8 NLT] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

Intro: Before we can understand how to reflect God’s radiance we must prioritize learning about the Gospel and the kingdom of God.

Weakening of our foundation happens when Christians don’t learn the Gospel Properly!

Worldliness/carnality happens when we don’t learn about the Kingdom properly.

During Paul’s day, there were two different gospels that competed with his own. One was the gospel of legalism, which is rule-oriented. The other was the gospel of libertinism, which is self-oriented.

Legalism is the human attempt to gain God’s favor by keeping rules, regulations, laws, and expectations

Some libertines have gone so far in their deception that they have reinvented Jesus in their own image to justify their rebellion against God and clothed it with spiritual talk. Others have gone further off the beam and have become practically atheists. In short, the libertine lives as if there is no God. The legalist lives as though she or he is God to everyone else

Jesus stood outside both the Progressive Left of His day (the Sadducees) and the Conservative Right of His day (the Pharisees). His gospel and His message transcended – and kind of collided – with both.

The gospel of the kingdom is the good news about the universal kingship of Jesus of Nazareth in the earth. And it is a gospel of grace, salvation, and life.

Broadly speaking, the kingdom of God is the rule of an eternal, sovereign God over all the universe. More narrowly, the kingdom of God is a spiritual rule over the hearts and lives of those who willingly submit to God’s authority.- https://www.gotquestions.org/kingdom-of-God.html

Tim Keller says this “The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.”

That gospel is not good advice, good philosophy, good organization, good religion, good politics, or good views. That gospel is good news.

BIG IDEA:

One of the things I’ve learned in my spiritual journey to be more like Christ is that the closer someone gets to Jesus Christ, the less judgmental, self-righteous, harsh toward others, sour, mean, sneaky and selfish he or she will be.

And the closer one gets to Christ, the more they will desire to know and live for God’s ultimate purpose.

The lordship of Jesus Christ and the liberty of Christ are two sides of the same coin.

Consider God’s rule in the UNSEEN REALM before creation. The heavenly hosts were subject to God by the sight of His peerless glory. And they were utterly free to follow Him or not follow Him. Some chose not to follow Him.

We have to be like the angels that shine and cover their face in reverence as the cry holy holy holy in the presence of Yahweh Elohim.

For us not to burn out but burn bright we have behold God’s glory and grandeur with the fear of the Lord daily.

Just as God the Father rules the kingdom of heaven in the heavenly realm by His glory, Jesus Christ rules the kingdom of God on earth by His glory.

LISTEN We must Open our heart and receive His grace. Then show His glory and grace to others, especially your brothers and sisters in the Lord.

the 3 Cs of Isaiah 6- Conviction, Consecration and Calling

Today I want to end this sermon with a challenge with the 3 words tolodge in your spirit as you think about how you want to reflect God’s glory in your story.

Commitment, Inconvenience and sacrifice

Commit yourself to study, sit and saturate yourself in the Glory of Christ and the kingdom of God. If the gospel of the kingdom is not changing your life, how can you expect it to change others.

Inconvenienced

“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” (1 John 3:16)

“A willingness to be inconvenienced is the ultimate proof of love.”- Ann Voskamp

Ray Ortund once said If your relationship with your church is ambiguous and sporadic and subject to convenience, the problem is not your relationship with your church. The problem is your relationship with Christ. He has made his loyalty clear. He even delights in his church. He is committed to the revival of the world through the revival of the church. To God, the most important thing in all of created reality is his church, a crown of beauty in his hand. Your own greatest happiness is the revival of your church.

[2Sa 24:24 NLT] 24 But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the LORD my God that have cost me nothing." So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen.

Sacrifice:

[Rom 12:1 NLT] 1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Didn’t get to tell this great story:

Years ago, an express package was mailed from England to South Africa. Postage was due upon delivery but the recipient wouldn’t pay the fee. For about fourteen years the box remained unclaimed and was used as a footstool in the express office. After the consignee died, the box, along with other unclaimed articles, was auctioned and sold for nearly nothing. When the purchaser opened it he discovered several thousand pounds of sterling English bank notes. Because the original recipient wouldn’t sacrifice a customary delivery fee he forfeited a fortune!

This new chapter in our fellowship is for us to shrink back but to rise up

Here’s last Sunday Sermon

Intro:The Lord has challenged me to spend most of my ministry declaring the glory, greatness and grandeur of Christ. I’ve hear old sermons of mines when I barely mention Christ named and it makes my wince and repent. I’ve been in services where Jesus was mentioned once…

Put that against the life, ministry and writings of the apostle Paul (who I’ve been studying)

Eph 1 in 23 verses he mention Christ more than 20+ times

Phil 1 in 30 veses he mention Christ more than 20 times

Col 1 in 30 verses mention Christ more than 25x

The truth of the faith can be preserved only by doing a theology of Jesus Christ, and by redoing it over and over again. —KARL RAHNER

In C.S. Lewis’ Prince Caspian, Aslan says to Lucy, "Every year that you grow, you will find me bigger." I think that’s a beautiful illustration of spiritual growth. Every year that we grow in the Lord, Jesus Christ looms larger and greater in our eyes.

Sermon Illustration:Re: Denominations focus

Every year 3 plp get together for a conference and cry

Mary: I came into this world to give him life and to bring him to humanity but they worshiped me (Catholic/Orthodox friends)

Holy Spirit: I came to reveal him and testify and magnify Christ and make him real and alive but they put me on the throne and they forgot him (Charismatic/Pentecostal Friends)

Bible: I came to point all my arrows to him and to show women, men, angels and demons who he is. His greatness and glory but they made a God out of me. (Baptist/Reformed friends)

Text: [Heb 12:1-2 NLT] 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God's throne.

Today I want to speak to your heart about 3 questions Jesus Asked Peter

Question #1 Who do you say I am?

[Mat 16:13-17 NIV] 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say the Son of Man is?" 14 They replied, "Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets." 15 "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." 17 Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

1. Why did you doubt?

[Mat 14:22-28, 30-36 NIV] 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." 28 "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." ... 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." 34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

1. Do you love me?

[Jhn 21:15-22 NIV] 15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?" "Yes, Lord," he said, "you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my lambs." 16 Again Jesus said, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" He answered, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Take care of my sheep." 17 The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?" He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go." 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, "Follow me!" 20 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is going to betray you?") 21 When Peter saw him, he asked, "Lord, what about him?" 22 Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."

You can place your faith in Jesus and receive God’s gift of eternal life right now. I encourage you to agree with God’s Word and express your faith toward God by praying the following prayer:

Heavenly Father, Thank You that Your Son Jesus came to this earth, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross for my sins. I believe He rose from the dead so I could receive forgiveness, become Your child, and receive the gift of eternal life.

I come to You now and repent from all sin. I not only receive Your gift of forgiveness, but I give You all of my life and all of my heart. I believe you have accepted me because Jesus said, “…the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37). You also said, “…whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Thank You for saving me, making me Your child, and helping me to live for You.
