On the latest episode of FORTIUS, I’m really excited to bring Lance the Real Deal.
We discussed a wide area of topics, many of which could perhaps be an entire episode in their own right. Maybe something for us to think about.
In the meantime, we discussed what it’s like to compete in the Olympic Games versus other championship competitions and the similarities of competitive stressors. His advise to the current crop of USA hammer men and the idea of, “Just decide to do it.”
And of course Stuart Togher. A mythical figure to many. In the end, the man simply loved hammer throw.
Lastly, Lance was gracious enough to talk us through the 1996 Olympic final. A story we should all want to hear as competitors. I’ve known lance since I was 18 years old. Much gratitude to him for sharing his personal feelings.

There are few more recognizable names in the history of the throwing events than Mac Wilkins.
Over the course of my career, there have been a handful of athletes, that have been near my age, or absolute legends in their respective events where we’ve had absolutely intriguing conversations. Mac Wilkins is one of those souls.

I’ve really enjoyed Sean’s hammer and human evolution the last few years.
Briefly, we discussed CVOTC, the development of his throw from university to the professional level, and the mental hurdle of training to be the best and how easily that facade can be shattered if you’re not careful.
Due to time constraints, we had to keep it short, but there will be a part 2 before long. This episode was just the tip of the iceberg.
