"Defending Dignity: Dismantling Caste Systems in Nepal"

"Shaping Change: The Power of Integrity"

Our Host speaks with South Sudanese Deng Dak Malual, the curator of the Global Shaper Hub in Kakuma Refugee Camp. Deng is transforming lives, opening doors, and despite facing the trials and tribulations of being a refugee himself, has emerged as an advocate for financial inclusion, peacebuilding, better livelihood for refugees and climate change.

Born in South Sudan, now living in Kakuma Refugee Camp, he spoke to our Host whilst she was in China. In a candid call, both explored the challenges faced by refugees in accessing financial services, the innovative solutions being implemented, and the positive impact these initiatives are having on individuals and communities.

Our Host visited Dadaab Refugee Camp last month and had the privilege of meeting extraordinary women who defied all odds and embraced entrepreneurship as a means to rebuild their lives. Their determination, creativity, and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on her.

Dadaab is Africa's first and largest refugee camp which is now 32 years old. More than 300,000 refugees now live in the camp in Kenya originally intended for 90,000 according to UNHCR. She celebrated World Refugee Day, where she also met U.N.H.C.R. colleagues.

She discussed and delved into the stories of these remarkable female entrepreneurs like Adhieu Achuil, who have transformed adversity into opportunity. From handcrafted goods to innovative services, from crushing nuts into hair shampoos and oils, they have unleashed their entrepreneurial talents to not only sustain themselves but also uplift their communities. Their stories will inspire you, challenge your perceptions, and ignite a sense of hope and possibility like they did to our host.

Exclusive: Who is Fixing the World - "Why Should We Care About Africa?" with Pierre Goudiaby Atepa

What a week. How did we get here? This is the question that we keep asking ourselves each morning. Our guest has got answers.

This week's episode was recorded from ⁠Dakar, Senegal, ⁠where our Host spent a week speaking and meeting people despite the political instability.

Our Host spoke at the ⁠E-Learning Africa⁠, a platform promoting e-learning in Africa and encouraging collaboration amongst the chief learning officers.

Senegal is a country of over 16 million people, and youth unemployment is exceptionally high; young people, especially women and girls, lack skills and cannot get jobs.

Both discussed how we can develop Senegal and Africa in general. He said that people just need to care. When people care about Africa, we will be able to eradicate Poverty. People care too much about themselves; hence the poverty level is what it is.

He said their generation had failed Africa, and he wants to ensure the next generation does better for Africa, and for that to happen, the mindset must change.

The renowned and celebrated African Architect Pierre Goudiaby Atepa is our guest for this exclusive Podcast. Mr Goudiaby has created the most iconic African buildings, including the Central Bank B.C.E.A.O. The building is situated in Burkina Faso. He also made the Millenary Door in Dakar, the Banjul airport, and the Bank of the Economic Community of West African States (E.C.O.W.A.S.) in Lomé, to just name a few.

He is currently looking at Smart cities and how to build administrative cities in Africa. He believes we must change our mindset, invest more in our cities and think differently to develop our continent. The Human capital of Africa is immense, but when we care more about the continent, change can happen. We truly loved talking to Pierre at his home in the Senegalese Capital.

In conversation- "How to become a better ancestor."

Recorded from Japan, in this week's episode, Author, Ancestorist, and Buddhist Monk Shoukei Matsumoto joined our Host, Lady Marieme, to discuss his new project, "Camphor Three Village". He was born in 1979 in Japan; he graduated with B.A. degree in Literature from the University of Tokyo. They spent time together in Japan, where she recently visited and spoke to over a thousand people in person and online.

In support of Mastumoto, our Host helps define what it means to become a better ancestor to a different audience in this modern world.

She agrees with Shoukei that future generations must rethink ancestry, be accountable and do better for the world.

The time they spent together during this pilgrimage allowed them to reconnect and share some memorable moments they both cherished. Both have an in-depth conversation on incorporating the Ikigai and Ubuntu concepts in our thinking and daily lives.

She shares a key lesson that's shaped her journey and life: Being able to care and take responsibility for your life and society. Be sure to start taking action before it is too late. Accountability means responsible behaviour. She said setbacks will happen in life—but if we treat them as teachable moments, they can help us grow and be accountable. Beatrice and our Host visited Kakuma Refugee Girls, where she taught them about financial inclusion and many other things.

A good place for leaders to start is engaging in small, doable habits that require compassion, courage, and curiosity.

How to build deep and meaningful school collaboration?

In this week's episode, our Host visited the Tormead Girls school in Guildford, where she spoke to the students. The Tormead school girls were joined by their Nepalese friends who visited the school to learn and gain experiences.

Lady Mariéme was invited to meet the Tormead girls and their Nepalese school students counterparts. They share their hopes and dreams but also challenge us to do better for young women and girls who do not have the opportunity they have.

The girls of Tormead understand their privileges but vouched to be inclusive and do better for their generation.

After a few weeks away from the mic, Lady Mariéme returned to speak with Mike Wamaya, Founder and C.E.O. of Project Elimu. Mike was 13 years old when his life was turned upside down. His father’s death forced him to drop out of school to support his family. While selling car parts, he saw a poster announcing auditions for the Kenya Performing Arts Group. Without any previous experience, Michael’s determination shone through, and he was offered a place at the Nairobi-based school. Lady Mariéme met Mike a few years ago in Nairobi and was genuinely impressed with his vision to help young women and girls through Ballet dancing. She donated computers to his project. Both discuss giving tools to the youth. Mike said: “Everybody deserves the right to dance. Dancing is like coding. It is a tool that we can use to fight poverty in Kibera. I want to give people dignity, and I know when they young are themselves, they can do magic and fix the world.”

Lady Marieme has dedicated her life to making the world a better place for the Kakuma; hence she invited her dear friend to visit the camp with her.

During the trip, both women met extraordinary young girls and women with ideas, empathy, kindness, passion and determination to improve their and other people’s lives. Basetsana is a businesswoman and philanthropist. After the trip, she shared lessons and gave some advice to help us all express our deepest gratitude for what we have and can do for our fellow human beings.

Our Season 7 continues with the theme of the Diary of the Do-Gooders. In this week’s Episode, Lady Mariéme talks about the power of having a therapist instead of a coach and why understanding that a therapist can help you better than a coach. We hide behind coaches, but sometimes what really we need is a therapist. Although Coaching can be excellent when people are healed, Lady Mariéme believes therapy should come first. After two sessions of coaching this year, she realised she needed a therapist. She felt she was coaching her coach more than the coach was coaching her. Having been in therapy for more than 20 years, our host said that therapy has helped her find herself, grow, heal, be healthy, master her childhood issues and be more pragmatic with her life journey. Many people do not know that psychotherapist focuses more on healing you from the past, while Coaching focuses on getting you to where you wish to be next, like setting up your SMART goals and giving you clarity in what you want to achieve. Sometimes they repeat what you already know but needs to be validated. Coaches can do little when you have trauma and lack motivation; What you really need is therapists; investing in therapy can help you immensely. Do-Gooders see injustice and unfairness and commit to doing something about it. They are fixers.

In this season, guests like Raghu Appasani (founder of the MINDS Foundation) want to help people take care of themselves. I loved his Podcast and his talk about mental hygiene. A therapist can help us with the mental health issues that may prevent us from living our best life. They can help us explore deep-rooted matters from our past, childhood trauma and relationships with our parents, even when the past hurts. This season, I learned that learning to train your mind is the greatest investment you can make in life. I also learned that if you do not have it, you cannot give it. Some Do-Gooders want to do good, but they push themselves too much so they can feel good, but underneath their intention are pain and trauma. For 20 years, I had a treatment plan, which has helped me. When you have a therapist, they can lubricate your life. The plans could take several months or even years, but it is good for you and your soul.

Having a therapist helped me understand the nature and importance of sleep. Also, my therapist helped me explore my authenticity, understanding my triggers and what I want to do in life and don’t want to do. My advice: Find yourself a therapist, not a coach. In this week’s Episode, Lady Mariéme invited Carmen Corbin, Head of Counter Cybercrime Programming (Africa). Carmen leads by example. She is based in Senegal, where she is currently serving. Both met during the pandemic when she invited Lady Mariéme to speak about technology and the importance of online safety. She is passionate about capacity building in Africa, especially for women.

They both discussed how cyber harassment and cybercrime can take many forms and why civil servants in the Police must be trained urgently with digital intelligence tools. In Africa, we have seen significant growth in cyber criminality in the form of high-profile ransomware campaigns over the last year. Unwanted sexually explicit emails, text (or online) messages; websites or internet chat rooms; Threats of physical and/or sexual violence by email, text (or online) messages; Hate speech, meaning language that denigrates, insults, threatens or targets an individual based on her identity (gender) and other traits (such as sexual orientation or disability). Lady Mariéme believes that Technology will have a profound and transformational effect on how her agency and law enforcement in Africa do business over the coming eight years. Carmen is happy to be part of the change in the cybercrime space in Africa. She is a Do-Gooder!

Exclusive Episode - This week’s podcast features Baronness Martha Lane Fox, a current member of the House of Lords in the United Kingdom. Martha survived a serious car crash in Morocco in 2004, but never stopped working and pushing boundaries to get UK households digitalized in later years.

She believes, Tackling the digital divide will be crucial to addressing social and economic inequalities and levelling up every Community”. Her dedication and passion are well-documented. She is an Internet Activist and a Businesswoman and has since become the UK Digital Space spokeswoman.

Martha and our Host discuss the power of kindness and resilience. She shared her journey and coping and getting on with things. Inspired by this quote from Martin Luther King Jr. ” If you can’t fly then run; if you can’t run then walk if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward,” Baroness Lane-Fox of Soho is determined to continue working, helping the most needed in life and fight for a world where everyone is connected and have digital access. Despite all her challenges and limitations, Martha’s kindness message is louder and more evident.

We are returning from Kakuma Refugee Camp, where we celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child this month. We met the girls and witnessed them learning how to CODE. It was truly unbelievable to see them coding with their tablets donated by our partner Skillsoft. It was an honour to see how much they progressed as human beings and love coding. They also loved talking about self-esteem and how to be free.

In this thought-provoking and stirring episode, our Host and CEO invited her young global leader, fellow and dear friend Argentinian-born Diana Verde Nieto, the Co-Founder of Positive Luxury. Since 2011 Positive Luxury has been accelerating organisations’ adaptation to the new climate economy. Dania is a pioneer, and her mission is to shape a sustainable future for luxury by redefining the business model and rebuilding consumer trust. She is very keen on the ESGs (environmental, social, and governance (ESG)) and thinks that corporate policies must lead to impact and accountability.

Another new podcast from iamtheCODE with Andrew Skipper MBE who leads the Africa practice at Hogan and Lovells, a law firm in London. He is committed to pursuing a policy of understanding, operating in, investing in and respecting Africa. As a lawyer, philanthropist, and art lover who understands the complexities of the African continent, Andrew is committed to supporting small and medium enterprises and organisations like iamtheCODE as a commercial lawyer. Their firm has offices in more than 45 countries, including 11 offices in the USA. He divides his time between managing some of the firm’s largest clients and developing relationships with African businesses, law firms and government contacts. In yet another superb discussion, Charles shared his ideas on creating and building a better world for all. He is inspired by what Lady Mariéme has achieved and done in Ghana for the marginalised communities. He mentioned that there is a power to what she has done as this will unleash the potential of the young people of Jamestown and fast-track their learning and entry into the Digital Economy. Abani shared three things that young people need to succeed: Knowledge -Networks- Resilience. How To Motivate People To Do Good For Others.

"We are not free until everyone is free"- is the message from a young girl in Ghana that our host Lady Mariéme met recently.

Our Host Lady Mariéme has been busy travelling and meeting incredible young women. She caught up with them and visited their schools and communities.

The girls will start their coding classes this September. Some of the girls are from Jamestown in Accra and will be the first girls to learn how to code with our new iamtheCODE Digital platform. The concrete benefits of coding come as valuable tools for both governmental bodies and the population as a whole. If you don’t know, Jamestown is the oldest district in Accra. A place where you can experience the real Accra. She left Accra, thinking about the world’s inequalities and kept asking herself why so many people struggle for decades of inaction. She also thought about the opportunities we have to do Good collectively. But how do we motivate people to do good for others?

Our Host thinks our attitude is everything but we must also eliminate excuses. She said there is no passion to be found in playing small.

The world needs your help; get out and give all you have to elevate humanity. You cannot take things with you. She wants to use her life want to make someone’s life better. Remember to Donate and support our girls.

Here is the final special episode straight from Davos 2022of Season 6, Decoding Sustainable Development Goals. Our host, Lady Mariéme, went live from the prestigious event to feature girls from the Rwanda Coding Academy. The girls shared a powerful message with the world leaders. In addition to strengthening the voice of two young coders from Rwanda, she invited the Innovation Queen, Faraja Kotta Nyalandu. She is a Young Global Leader assigned by the World Economic Forum as well as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Shule Direct. In this episode, they discussed the silver lining of COVID-19. Lady Mariéme, the founder and CEO of iamtheCODE, made an inspiring appearance at this year’s E-learning Africa Conference in Kigali, Rwanda. She showcased our new platform to leaders and local heroes from all over Rwanda who are transforming the world one day at a time. She visited the Rwanda School of Academy and demonstrated the platform to the pride of Africa, thegirls and boys learning how to code. She was honoured to have witnessed their vigour in becoming the most significant asset for our continent. With the facilitation from our partners, Kilimajaro Blind Trust, Lady Mariéme alsovisited some young visually impaired students, which brought tears to her eyes. We are doing all we can to make the entire content in Braille so that those who need it most will have access. The students and teachers of HVP Gatagara School for the visually impaired also listened to one of our Decoding SDGs episodes. They expressed their love and understood the challenges of gender equality in the 4th Industrial Revolution. As she said, technology does not discriminate; people do. We celebrated Girls ICT Day in Kakuma Refugee Camp, where Lady Mariéme hosted the Podcast after two years of not meeting the girls.

She also launched the iamtheCODE Digital Platform. She was joined by Doreen Bogdan-Martin is Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union, the Secretariat of ITU-D. She was elected at the 2018 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Dubai and was named the first woman in the 153-year history of the ITU to hold an elected office. Previously, Bogdan-Martin was Chief of Strategic Planning and Membership from 2008-to 2018. Bogdan-Martin also serves as the Executive Director of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development.

They are both passionate about giving girls access to technology and innovation.

Our Season Six continues “Decoding the UN Sustainable Development Goals”. We welcomed our phenomenal guest, Dr Ibilola Amao, a Nigerian Engineer principal consultant of Lonadek Services. When her late father – a trained civil engineer – discovered she loved science and math, he encouraged her to pursue studies in this area. She feels we need to increase the quality of the new graduates in Africa. She spoke to Lady Mariéme about her journey and her love of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and gave some great advice on how to master your skills and leave a legacy. Dr Amao believes we must aspire to be excellent citizens and never give ourselves excuses. She also called for Africans to collaborate, reach out and work hard. This week’s episode welcomes Professor Tim Unwin, UNESCO Chair in ICT4D, and Emeritus Professor of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London. Tim is a long friend of Africa who has written many books about Digital interventions for the marginalised communities, especially the disabled. His book “Reclaiming information & communication technologies for development” inspired our host. He was the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) from 2011-2015, where he travelled intensively to Africa and Asia. He was appointed Companion of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St George in 2016. Tim was born in England and had a mathematician mother who inspired him to love technology and innovation. He worked intensively with marginalised communities and advised the government in getting the right policies in ICT4D (Information and Communications Technologies for Development). Welcome to the iamtheCODE Season 6 podcast.

We are super excited and honoured to announce the launch of our new Season six podcast series, an intentionally themed global weekly podcast that explores the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. A collection of 17 global goals will be decoded by world leaders and young people worldwide. The SDGs were designed for countries, but they are useful for businesses as frameworks when developing their own sustainability targets.

In this Episode, Lady Mariéme Jamme welcomes Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact, to discuss mobilizing Businesses to embed the SDGs in their strategies. Sanda took the role during the Pandemic and shared how honoured she is to lead this fantastic organization. She emphasizes the importance of private partnerships in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). The UN Global Compact agency is a voluntary initiative based on C.E.O commitments to implement ten universal sustainability principles and to take steps to support UN goals. It was launched in July 2000 during the late Kofi Annan’s regime as U.N Secretary-General. Sanda will be inaugurated at the virtual U.N Global Compact Leaders’ Summit.

Joining Lady Mariéme Jamme on this final episode for season 5 is Joanna Peña-Bickley, CEO, DesignedByUs.org, Head of Research & Design, Alexa Devices at Amazon to share her story and how she came to learn how to design her own life and now passing this to a new generation of designers through mentoring and mobilisation. She is often called “the mama of design”. She brings designers, artists, editors, creative directors, entrepreneurs and everybody in between to have a conversation about empathy design.

Lady Mariéme got to know Joanna a few years ago and sits on her foundation's board. Joanna discovered her purpose after conversing with her grandmother, who said to her that her skin colour was a privilege and would benefit her greatly one day.

Saturday Special💕 In this week's episode, Lady Mariéme’s shares the lessons she has learnt over the decades and says there are four key elements to discovering your purpose that we should think about as part of our growth. She said we must dare to be visible, but we should have a strategy and a plan before seeking too much and unnecessary visibility. Once we start establishing our credibility and gaining trust from our peers, it is imperative to maintain relationships and be knowledgeable about a topic. A credible person is someone whose actions match their expressed values. The combination of visibility; credibility leads to profitability, meaning people will pay you for your time and services, will refer and recommend you. The last key element is humanity.

Lady Mariéme shares her view on how we can learn to be kinder, empathetic and more compassionate towards each other especially post covid-19. People will make mistakes and fall short, but being honest by telling them what they have done wrong is better than cancelling or ghosting them.

In this short episode before Christmas, our host Lady Mariéme Jamme spoke to Leena Nair, the first female, first Asian, youngest ever Chief Human Resources Officer of Unilever. She became Chanel’s New Global Chief Executive Officer and will start in her new role in 2022. She worked for 30 years at Unilever and will take the reins at the 112-year-old fashion house founded by Coco Chanel. Leena shared the challenges she had during Covid19. She lost her mother, who was her greatest strength. Leena spoke to the Kakuma Refugee Girls in Kenya before leaving her role at Unilever. She supported iamtheCODE during her tenure at Unilever, and we are truly grateful. Leena told the girls to support each other as sisterhoods matter.

Lady Mariéme welcomed Clementine Nkweta-Salami, Director of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to the iamtheCODE Podcast. The conversation covers their shared passion for service, mentorship, collaboration and leadership.

They discussed her early years in her law practice, where she realised she was far removed from the individuals she wanted to help. She reached out to UNHCR to serve for a few years. But before she knew it, many decades had passed.

“It is important to look behind the numbers and remember that refugees are real people. They have joy and fear, and hope. They want to take care of their families, break a dependent lifestyle and assume full responsibility for themselves and their families. It is challenging to express the joy and satisfaction that you get from this.”

Education has been her passport to achieving her full potential.

“An educated girl grows into an educated woman, and she will be the backbone of her community” Clementine is passionate about mentoring girls to get the best possible education they can.

Clementine sees learning opportunities in everything we do; often it is about finding the confidence to unleash the powers we have within ourselves. Her work story moved from dealing with corporations to individual human beings. She is committed to everyone in all walks of life understanding what protection, support and assist refugees mean.

She shared with Lady Marieme about her leadership style. “I am like the conductor of an orchestra. Every one comes with the ability to play a particular instrument. My job is to say what piece of music we play, and everyone in the team plays their instrument to the best of their ability. If we don’t listen, then we have a cacophony. When we work well together, we have harmony.”

Caroline grew up in a little town in Austria. The only girl in a family of boys, Caroline was hungry to make her own path outside of her village. ‘I wanted to see the world and influence the world’.

Caroline’s Father instilled great values in Caroline about being disciplined about the way you start the day and organise yourself. Caroline is thoughtful every day about the impact she has."I can influence the world around me by doing small things. Treating people with trust, kindness and compassion. If you set out to do something. You do it. You don’t give up when it gets difficult." Caroline talks about the toughness you need to be successful and the challenges you need to give yourself. She is very well respected in the Wealth Management industry. She wanted to work in an area where she could help the developing world. She also wanted to be financially independent and a career in Finance offered her everything she needed to discover her purpose. She said: "We need to challenge the status quo".

Bill grew up in Melbourne Australia. He was bullied at High School and experienced racism. He then discovered Computing. After many years of self-discovery and teamwork, Bill rebuilt himself as a person with a mission. He understood that Integrity unlocked the code to success. In this episode, Bill tells Lady Mariéme ‘I didn’t find my purpose, I designed it.

Bill is concerned with anyone who doesn’t listen or is anti-science. He wants the world to love science and believe in it. He set up Coder Dojo and three years ago this merged with Raspberry Pi to become the leading coding organisation in the world. He founded We Forest to bring the science of permaculture to reforest areas of the world where Mother Earth needs help to heal. He travelled by land and sea for thirteen years. Bill started flying again after sufficient funds had been pledged to plant 100 million trees. This is a powerful example of Bill’s personal integrity.

Bill now lives in Ireland with his family and is inspired every morning. He is grateful for life and passionate about Climate Activism. In this episode, Bill shares tips to unlock your superpowers and design your purpose. ‘Even more powerful than speaking is asking’. Bill believes that Listening is a Super Power and that Integrity and collaboration are essential. They both shared their love for data. Dunn was awarded an OBE in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to Data and business in the UK.

Along with their husband, Clive Humby, she co-founded Dunnhumby, the company which pioneered data-driven marketing through the Tesco Clubcard loyalty scheme. She is now chief executive at data science consultancy Starcount and also spearheads the What I See Project - a not-for-profit initiative to promote the voices and experiences of women from around the world through the medium of film. Edwina grew up in the UK and shared her career experience in male-dominated spaces.

She didn’t have many women who guided her. That’s why she encourages girls to pursue career paths needed in society and go for something that they’re passionate about. Edwina wants to see a strong presence of women in male-dominated spaces to create more leaders and role models for girls. Hence, she started The Female Lead platform to celebrate stories of women. She believes that “You can’t be what you can’t see.”

Born in Zimbabwe, Elizabeth has worked in the global development community, has held leadership roles at the World Bank, the World Health Organisation, and UN Women.**

She overcame so much as a young girl. Elizabeth has an inspiring story and has written her first book called; “I am a girl from Africa.” Both discussed the power of the collective and humanity. Elizabeth said, “We can’t be it until we see it,” meaning we need more role models. She also mentioned that her story is the story of millions of girls. She also spoke fondly about her grandmother “GoGo,” who is still her spiritual guide and has greatly inspired her on her journey.

World-renowned American Actress, Singer, Dancer Alyson Stoner shares her insight with Lady Mariéme in this fantastic Part two and the final episode of Season 4.

Alyson believes that we all have a creative genius in us. She takes us deeper into her life as a young actress and today, as a humble influencer and businesswoman.

She said, “What you didn’t receive, you can’t give. One of the things I learned to learn is to receive inspiration and be moved by the art in life.”

Hoping to forge a deep connection with herself and learn from her tumultuous childhood, both discussed the power of elevating humanity.

Alyson outlines simple practices she has adopted to protect her mental health and wellbeing and welcomes anyone who wants to make a lifelong commitment to creating a more authentic and calm life.

The Power of Elevation through healing

In this first part of the Final Episodes of Season 4, Lady Mariéme spoke to American Actress, Singer, Dancer, and Activist Alyson Stoner.

She said: “It has been truly amazing to invite all these extraordinary people to come and share their life journeys with the girls and me.

We have invited Alyson, an American actress, singer, dancer, and activist, to help us close this season. Lady Mariéme and Alyson met in a very unusual place – Antarctica - the fifth largest of the seven continents.

It is situated over the South Pole, almost entirely south of latitude 66°30' south (the Antarctic Circle). They were part of 100 founding members of the Future Talk expedition who were invited to a four-day expedition designed to pay extreme attention to details. No technology or mobile phones were allowed.

Lady Mariéme commented thus; It was the trip of a lifetime. I never thought that I would make it to Antarctica. At one stage of our journey on the boat, Alyson stood up and gave a speech that touched my heart. It was vulnerable, powerful, and full of love. She has grown so much, and I wanted to invite her to close this season. She is wise, beautiful, and does excellent work by opening her heart through play, the arts, and gratitude.”

Both discussed the power of elevating humanity and healing from our past by listening to our bodies through movement.

Alyson has started her new venture, a radically inclusive platform using movement to improve Mental & Emotional health.

This week's guest is the formidable Marian Spier, Dutch Social Entrepreneur and culture strategist, who discussed the power of storytelling and visualising your dream with host Lady Mariéme.

Both met a few years ago where Marian was leading TedxAmsterdam Women and invited Lady Mariéme to give a Keynote about iamtheCODE.

A fundamental pillar of iamtheCODE’s work revolves around women’s empowerment globally, a vital goal of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our mission is to build a generation of one million women and girl coders by 2030, measuring the indicators of the Global Goals and tracking progress. They spoke about fighting for yourself in life, being authentic, and staying true to your values. Marian said: “Don’t let anybody steal your dream, and do not share your dream with everybody; write your dreams down.”

Lady Mariéme talks to Lucas Brown, the British Consul in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Consul Brown graduated in Politics and Sociology of Latin America with Spanish at the University of Liverpool and completed an MBA at the State University of Pernambuco.

He is involved in promoting sustainable economic development and engaging with the global campaign “Race to Zero”, which focuses on neutralizing emissions and decarbonising due to global climate change.

Previously, the Consul worked with Supply Chain in the automotive sector, leading projects in various countries, and led the Department for International Trade’s Mining Sector in Brazil.

Lucas is also building a legacy through his work with vulnerable communities.

In this week episode of season 4, Lady Mariéme talks to Yasmin Waljee, an international lawyer who has been key to establishing and embedding a pro bono culture within Hogan Lovells. Yasmin has advised on issues relating to compensation for victims of crime and terrorism including the July 7 bombing victims, the right to life, and regularly works on public policy issues in this area. She is the Vice-Chair of Mosaic, the HRH Prince of Wales led an initiative to support young Muslims and their peers growing up in deprived areas whilst breaking down the barriers and suspicions with British Society. Lady Mariéme was impressed by his commitment to justice and humanitarian causes.

They both met years ago in China when Mariah joined to lead and support the young global leader’s community. At the age of 14, Mariah understood that the world was not fair. Lady Marieme said: “She felt safe in her hands. In this week episode, Lady Marieme Jamme speaks to Phyllis Kurlander Costanza, Head of Social Impact, CEO UBS Optimus Foundation. Both met a few years ago when iamtheCODE was founded. They discussed the education of young girls, vaccine equity, food for adolescent girls, their reproductive health, family planning, and general health.

UBS was the first organization to fund the iamtheCODE program. Phyllis started working at UBS in 2011; she was instrumental in reshaping the UBS Optimus Foundation’s strategy, helping clients fund impactful philanthropic programs like iamtheCODE that improve children’s lives and fight climate change globally. Prior to this, she was with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and also served as a CIFF board member for eight years. Before joining the non-profit sector, Ms Costanza worked for more than a decade as a management consultant in Washington, DC and Vienna, Austria and lived and worked in Kyiv, Ukraine, on a USAID program involving the privatization of state-owned enterprises. She also worked for New York State Governor Mario Cuomo, advising on policy and politics in Manhattan, and started her career working for Prudential.

As we celebrate World Refugees week, Lady Mariéme reflects on her time in Kakuma Refugees Camp and invites Dr Waheed Arian, a British doctor and radiologist born in Afghanistan and founded a telemedicine charity called Arian Teleheal. Waheed is now a citizen, serving in the National Health Service. He told Lady Mariéme that he sees refugees through his eyes. He has written a book to share his journey.

Despite the pandemic, the number of people fleeing wars, violence, persecution and human rights violations in 2020 rose to nearly 82.4 million people, according to UNHCR’s latest annual Global Trends reports released today in Geneva. This is a further four per cent increase on top of the already record-high 79.5 million at the end of 2019. Together we heal, learn and shine with new opportunities. Let’s not forget Refugees.

The Power of Building Trust.

In this week’s episode, Lady Mariéme Jamme welcomes her friend, Austrian born, London based and iamtheCODE Patron, Christopher Schlaeffer. Christopher is a European tech Entrepreneur and an expert in the telecom industry. He was part of the launch of the Android platform, which we all use today.

They both have known each other for a very long time. They travelled together to Kakuma Refugee Camp to meet the young refugees, along with Christopher’s friends and daughter. As the Patron of iamtheCODE, Christopher discusses why supporting organisations like this can create and give equal opportunity to young marginalised girls.

Lady Marieme says, "Christopher made me trust people more as a leader who never knew what trust is and showed me that every moment in someone's life is an opportunity to do good and be at the service of another human being."

Easter Special ✨🐰 - When Arts and Technology collide 🎨

Lady Mariéme’s guest on this week’s podcast is Priya Shah. Priya is an artist and talks to Lady Mariéme about her business Mia Kora (translated as ‘100 gold coins’) and her business’ initiative ‘Frame It or Wear It,’ which consists of Priya printing her artwork onto scarves. Priya was born and brought up in Kenya, and Kenya influences a lot of her work. Her Kenyan roots have also instilled a love of wildlife and conversation into Priya, which is why Mia Kora helps to raise vital funds for conservation charities.

Priya has a strong connection with iamtheCODE. She has previously created a design for her beautiful scarves that features the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a considerable part of the iamtheCODE’s mission. Priya was invited by Lady Marieme to join her to Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, where she visited the schools that iamtheCODE works with. Priya passed on her expertise by teaching the girls to express themselves through drawing mandalas. To the girls’ delight, Priya then put their artwork onto scarves.

The Power of Authenticity and Acceptance

This week’s podcast features a candid conversation between our very own Lady Marieme Jamme and social activist Nimco Ali OBE. Lady Marieme met Nimco at a conference where Nimco was discussing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Nimco herself has experienced FGM and is now working tirelessly to put a stop to it. She is the co-founder and CEO of The Five Foundation. This non-profit organization aims to end FGM and provide funding for African women working in African grassroots projects fighting against FGM. Nimco’s work is changing so many girl’s lives for the better.

Nimco talks to Lady Marieme about her experience of moving to England from Somalia at a young age, her family, the importance of staying true to yourself and being kind to yourself, and her book is called ‘What We’re Told Not to Talk About (But We’re Going to Anyway).

During this week's podcast, Lady Mariéme Jamme is joined by Victoria Alonsoperez, Entrepreneur and inventor of Chipsafer, a platform that has made a huge impact in her home country Uruguay by tracking and detecting anomalies in cattle behaviour to help farmers better manage and care for their livestock.

Victoria's innovative work has earnt her many accolades, and in 2013, she won the Best Young Inventor Award from the World Intellectual Property Organisation. Special Edition. The Power of the World Wide Web. The WEB is 32 years old today and on this occasion of global celebration, Lady Marieme Jamme is joined by Adrian Lovett, CEO of the World Wide Web Foundation, to discuss how we can continue to move the internet in a positive direction.

The aim of the World Wide Web Foundation is to build inclusion and get everyone connected to the internet, and Adrian talks about changing people’s mindsets in order to help achieve this goal. When the web was invited in 1989, Lady Marieme was 15 years old. She recalls learning how to read and write thanks to the Web. Adrian is enthusiastic for governments, companies and internet users to all act by signing this contract, www.contractfortheweb.org, so that together we can make the web a safe, inclusive and empowering place for all.

Lady Marieme Jamme is joined by Salim Amin. Salim Amin is the chairman of Camerapix, which provides a wide range of media services. He is also the founder and chairman of the Mohamed Amin Foundation, which was launched in 1998 in memory of his late father, to provide African journalists with the tools and knowledge to tell stories to an international audience.

Salim is passionate for people to learn about his late father, Mohamed Amin’s work in journalism and the archive of his work which includes 3 million images and 10,000 hours worth of videos. Just like his father, Salim takes pride in his African heritage. He aims to educate people on African history through his father’s work which often focused on expressing the traditions, people, culture, and beauty of Africa.

Lady Marieme Jamme is joined by Dr Olamide Brown, née Orekunrin.

She is a British-Nigerian medical doctor, healthcare entrepreneur, and founder of the Flying Doctors Healthcare Investment Group and Director Greentree Investment Company. Both young global leaders met a few years ago at the World Economic Forum, where she shared her expertise on improving the African health system.

Ola was motivated to start the Flying Doctors after experiencing the loss of her sister under difficult circumstances and to improve medical services in Nigeria. She successfully established Flying Doctors in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2007. They discussed the Power of health, what motivated her to start her company and what empowering women leaders are at the top of her agenda.

Lady Marieme Jamme is joined by Ada Osakwe, Nigerian-born Business economist, entrepreneur, food lover, Founder, and CEO of Agrolay Ventures, to talk about the power of food, running a food business in Nigeria, nurturing and looking after our health through Food.

This year has been incredibly difficult with the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic. In the final episode of Season 2, Lady Marieme spoke to Tolullah Oni, a public health physician-scientist and urban epidemiologist and a young global leader from the World Economic Forum.

Oni won numerous awards. She is also an Honorary Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Cape Town, where she leads the Research Initiative for Cities Health and Equity (RICHE).

Tolullah and Lady Marieme discussed the power of curiosity and how to get more girls into STEM subjects.

She aims to promote science and research as critical drivers of development in Africa through a coordinated approach between science, policy, and society role players, to identify creative strategies to address complex population health and broader societal challenges.

In this special episode, Lady Marieme spoke with Felipe Resk, IT Manager from Unilever in Sao Paulo, in Brazil, where they met a few years ago.

Felipe volunteered within the organisation, mobilised his colleagues, and demonstrated outstanding leadership in helping organise events and scale in Brazil.

On this United Nations Week, Lady Marieme Jamme welcomes John Mcarthur, a senior adviser to the UN Foundation.

John is a senior fellow and director of the new Center for Sustainable Development at the Brookings Institution, which is launching today, October 21st. He serves as a member of the UNICEF Advisory Group. In 2018 he co-founded the "17 Rooms" initiative as a new approach to catalyzing action for the Sustainable Development Goals. He served as manager and then deputy director of the UN Millennium Project, where he supported leaders like Kofi Annan, then UN Secretary-general, and many more.

Lady Marieme and John met at Yale University as Young Global Leaders. They formed a friendship based on mutual respect, learning from each other, and holding each other accountable. He convinced her that progress is possible, especially if you have the right people demanding change.

In this Global Handwash Day 2020, Lady Marieme Jamme spoke to

Dr. Myriam Sidibe. She is one of the world's only people with a doctorate in public health focused on handwashing with soap.

She is one of the driving forces behind the creation of Global Handwashing Day, which recognises the need to raise awareness of handwashing with soap as a simple but lifesaving habit that can prevent disease.

Myriam worked at Unilever and wrote Her book "Brands on a Mission" which was released in May 2020. She is also a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School.

Alex Benay, former Chief Information Officer of Canada, joined Lady Marieme for a candid conversation about his journey.

They both sit on the World Wide Web Foundation board and are passionate about making digital policies inclusive.

Alex currently serves as a Partner with KPMG, leading the national digital transformation practice helping governments and Fortune 500 companies.

Lady Marieme said technology has no gender, no age, no class, no colour; we are building the world's most significant pipeline of technologists and are doing service to humanity by including the less fortunate.

Leaders like Alex Benay are aware of their privilege and taking responsibility; for that reason, our girls will have a chance in the tech sector.

This week, Lady Marieme Jamme's guest is Japanese Lin Kobayashi School Founder and Chair of the Board UWC ISAK Japan.

After working for the United Nations, she dedicated her life to giving young people an opportunity through scholarship and education.

Kobayashi believes that educating a society's lower class is the most effective way to democratize and change a nation.

She said a leader does not necessarily have to be a politician or an entrepreneur. Lady Marieme and Lin are both young global leaders of the World Economic Forum and judges of the Prestigious Global Teacher Prize.

They shared the power of planting seeds of hope in young people's lives, investing their future, and making education systems better for all, not just for the few. Jamme profoundly believes that education offers young girls and boys the future they deserve.

In this 75th Anniversary of the United Nations and 5th year since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, Lady Marieme Jamme is joined by a special guest this week. Mama Amina Mohammed as she calls her. She is the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, a mother to all of us, an African sister, a friend, and a grandmother.

Jamme said that behind every title, there is a human being.

Both met and spent time together three years ago when Lady Marieme was nominated as a Unicef and Bill and Melinda Gates Goalkeeper in 2017. She recalls her encouragement, kindness, love, and empathy when nobody was there for her.

Mohammed held her hand so tight before she went to pick up her award from Former Unilever CEO Paul Pollman.

Lacombe thinks we need to cure people with love. She fights for discrimination against the LGBTQ community and all people who feel invisible.
