This week, we’re diving into the Twitter thread that shook the internet and somehow became an A24 film - yes, "Zola" is on the menu. We’re talking Taylour Paige, Riley Keough, Colman Domingo, and Nicholas Braun bringing the most chaotic road trip ever to life, but does the movie capture the thread’s unhinged brilliance? Expect dramatic readings, plot twists, and a lot of “what the hell” energy.

On this episode of Film is Lit, we sink our claws into the 2023 thriller/horror/dark comedy "Cat Person," based on Kristen Roupenian’s viral 2017 short story from The New Yorker. Starring the singing sensation from "CODA" (Emilia Jones) and everyone’s favorite awkward giant from "Succession" (Nicholas Braun), "Cat Person" explores the murky gray areas of dating, power dynamics, and the stories we tell ourselves when red flags come waving. We break down whether this adaptation carries the same biting, uncanny commentary as the original story - or whether it stretches itself too thin by going full feature when maybe, just maybe, a short film would’ve sufficed. Is it a sharp look at modern dating, or just another mis-cat-culation (I'm sorry)? Tune in to find out!

ON THE SEASON 9 FINALE OF "FILM IS LIT"... immunologist and research scientist Dr. Pete Sieling (who just so happens to be Laura's Dad) finally returns to the pod to discuss Beth Macy's harrowing non-fiction book "Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America." The book, which details the opioid epidemic's impact in America, was adapted into a thrilling miniseries titled "Dopesick," released on Hulu. The series features a sprawling cast, which includes everyone's favorite Batman AND everyone's favorite Mr. Mom, Michael Keaton! What's even cooler is that the series was created by actor-turned-showrunner Danny Strong, who used to be on "Gilmore Girls," Laura's favorite show. Pretty neat, huh?

If Joel Edgerton is involved, then we're INTERESTED! On today's episode of Film is Lit, we cover the gripping true crime non-fiction book, "The Sting," by Australian journalist-turned-author Kate Kyriacou. The book gives us an inside look into Australia's largest undercover sting operation, which led to the arrest and conviction of Daniel Morcombe's killer in 2011. "The Stranger," directed by Thomas M. Wright in 2022, is a haunting, loose adaptation of this thrilling true story. Our boy Edgerton stars as the lead, and Sean Harris does what he does best by playing the creepiest human(?) in existence... creepier than anything in your nightmares. What a trip!

We'll take any excuse to talk about Alex Garland that we can get! On this episode of Film is Lit, we discuss Kazuo Ishiguro's profound and sentimental quasi-science-fiction drama, "Never let Me Go," and compare it to the equally as emotional film adaptation of the same name, directed by Mark Romanek and written by - you guessed it - our boy Alex Garland. Keep a box of tissues handy and prepare to grapple with the meaning of life, because this episode gets HEAVY. (Oh and we also talk about Andrew Garfield, who is super hot right now due to "Spiderman" and "tick,tick...BOOM!"....hey, gotta appeal to the kids somehow!!!)

Do you listen to Film is Lit? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when their episode on the infamous classic "American Psycho" came out, featuring returning guests Matt and Tim Gaylord (brothers of our esteemed co-host Danny) I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole episode has a quasi-professionalism that really gives their talking points a slight boost. This podcast has been compared to the countless other podcasts out there about movies and books, but I think Film is Lit has a far more unrefined, immature sense of humor. Give this episode a listen and make sure you return those video tapes!

...And you thought YOUR neighbors were nosy! On this episode of the Film is Lit, we cover Ira Levin's devilishly amusing novel "Rosemary's Baby" and Roman Polanski's literal beat-for-beat movie adaptation of the same name. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode gets pretty heavy metal as we discuss hot-button topics like marital rape, abortion, religion, politics, politics in religion, the anti-christ, and devil-worshipping. If any of those topics offend you, then proceed with caution! Please keep in mind that Laura and Danny are not experts on any of those subjects!

Welcome to Episode 027 - Laura's literal nightmare-hell scape where it's illegal to not only read books, but also to own them. Ray Bradbury's 1953 novel "Fahrenheit 451" is a classic for good reason, but it's not without faults. Then 2018 rolled around, and Ramin Bahrani decided to water the story down with just about every dystopian trope in the playbook. Yikes...We call for a re-make starring the only two good things to come out of the movie, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon! Join us while we discuss this sci-fi classic!
