This week I was inspired by the Netflix documentary Lover, Stalker, Killer and immediately fell down the rabbit hole of this case. Then, leaning into the more spooky things, we’ve got Veronica a 2017 supernatural horror film loosely based on the 1991 Vallecas case when Estafania Gutierrez Lazaro mysteriously died after using a ouija board.

Today we’re talking about not one, but two different women. Yes, it is a double episode today, of sorts. And the reason is because I went down a rabbit hole, as I tend to do, and I was originally going to just talk about one woman this happened to, but apparently it has happened to at least two within the past year.
Now, there’s a website, which I’m not going to name directly but I promise it exists, that falsely advertises hitmen for hire. Something that started as a joke according to the “About” section, and yet has now been used multiple times to find people who actually want to hire someone to murder others. The website reports these claims to police, and it leads to them catching the would-be murderer. It’s all very Tiger King of them.

Annie Dookhan is a convicted felon who pled guilty to falsifying evidence that affected up to 34,000 cases in the state of Massachusetts. She worked as a chemist for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Drug Abuse Laboratory.
She was recently the subject of a Netflix series How to Fix a Drug Scandal and I highly recommend watching it if you haven't already
In the wake of the Roe v Wade decision, it is easy to feel hopeless, and angry. I wanted to make an episode that talked about the women who came before us, and how they fought against a system that was determined to deny them their basic human rights and access to healthcare.
Today we're going to talk about the Jane Collective, the women who came before us who helped women in need obtain abortion and healthcare at a time where they could be tried for felony murder.
About the recent Supreme Court decision, founder Heather Booth said, "It's certainly against the promise of this country and against freedoms that we've worked so hard for. but we can make a difference and we can make a future...we need to turn our anger into action. because it's when we stay hopeless and helpless that we become victims. We are not victims, we are the hero of our story."
This week we're talking about current fugitive Kaitlin Armstrong, wanted in connection to the murder of Moriah "Mo" Wilson. Armstrong was last on surveillance footage at the Newark International Airport. US Marshals are currently offering $5,000 for any information in connection to her arrest.

She’s probably one of the most badass women in history and I’ve been really looking forward to covering her story.
Today we’re talking about Fredegund the Assassin Queen-probably one of the most hysterically evil people I’ve had the fortune of reading about. In a nutshell, Fredegund was the epitome of every evil mistress or wife. A consort who gained the affection of a king, she either killed or hired someone to kill any who may get in the way of her and later, her son's reign.
Let's talk about Elize Matsunaga, who made headlines in Brazil when she killed her millionaire husband Marcos Matsunaga, dismembered his body, and disposed of the body parts in an abandoned wooded area outside São Paulo. Her story has recently been featured in Netflix's most recent true crime docuseries called Elize Matsunaga: Once Upon a Crime.

My name is Gabrielle, and this is the podcast where I talk about women in history known for mayhem and murder.
I've been a true crime fan for a long time, probably starting from when I was entirely too young. One of the things that I've noticed is that a lot of the movies, books, tv shows, and podcasts are dominated by stories of men. What else is new, right?
But, that's how the idea for this podcast was born. With a desire to share the stories of women, both past and present, that oftentimes get overlooked in the world of true crime. After all, feminism is about gender equality, and women can be murderers too.

In this episode, we talk about Charlotte Badger and the mysterious, if oftentimes exaggerated, mark that she left on history. Rumored to be one of Australia's first pirates, a convict on the run, Charlotte Badger definitely has a story that you want to hear.
Ick ick ick ick ick okay guys this one is a gross one today, like even I was hesitant about covering this one because it’s really messed up so consider this your overall warning about Omaima Nelson and how she murdered her husband. She is most commonly compared to Hannibal Lector and Jeffrey Dahmer, some of the most famous cannibals out there so just know that’s where we’re going today.

Our story this week takes us to Ireland, and we’re not just talking about one murderess, but two. Sisters, who murdered their mother’s abusive boyfriend and became internationally known as the Scissor Sisters. Their names are Linda and Charlotte Mulhall, from Dublin, Ireland.
Today, we’re talking about Shayna Hubers, who I heard about in this wonderful book called Porn and Murder. This is an actual book that I own on my kindle account. Shayna was convicted of murdering her on again/off again boyfriend Ryan Poston in 2012.
It’s October aka the best month of the year and it’s time to get spooky! Or, at least more spooky than usual. This month, we’re going to be tying our women to the tropes we find most often in horror movies. Our first murderess? A woman who strangled her best friend for around $2000. Her name was Guen Garlejo Aguilar and she murdered Jane Parangan La Puebla in the early 2000s.
Razia Sultana, South Asia’s first female ruler. She was a sultan who broke across many barriers, first female ruler being only one of them.
This week we're talking about Yang Kyin Hsiu, aka "Olive" Yang. She was royalty turned warlord, who’s CIA supplied army had opium delivery routes all across the golden triangle. She also helped fund public schools in rural areas and dated famous Burmese actress Wah Wah Win Shwe. You can see how she definitely caught my attention.

This week, we’re talking about Marie Equi, a Wild West style of doctor who was devoted to provide care to those who were working class or poor. She was one of the first 60 women to be a physician in Oregon, and was the only female doctor from the Oregon team to help with the 1906 San Francisco earthquake disaster.

Well it’s June and that means it’s time for us to cover women in LGBTQ+ history who you may or may not have heard of. Not that we save those stories for June specifically, we aren’t every other corporation in America here, but I think in June it’s nice to focus specifically on those in history who were part of the LGBTQ+ community but otherwise may remain unknown or heard about.
So, who are we talking about this episode? Well, that would be The Valiant Ladies of Potosi, the sword an gun toting lesbian teen vigilantes who became 2 of Peru’s favorite folk heroines.
This episode we talk about the "Lioness of Brittany", a woman who took revenge against King Philip IV by becoming a pirate and commandeering war ships known as the Black Fleet. Outraged by the execution of her husband, Jeanne de Clisson haunted the French fleet for 13 years during her piracy career, before deciding to marry and retire. Her story is definitely one you should know!
After the disgusting woman of last week’s episode, Ghislaine Maxwell and her involvement with Epstein, I felt like it was important to cover a woman who’s story ended with her getting her own justice.Now, trigger warning for mentions of rape, but our story is Timoclea of Thebes, who murdered the man who raped her by pushing him down a well and throwing heavy stones on him until he died.
Maxwell is infamous at this time for her association with convicted pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, and is currently awaiting trial for charges against her involving sex trafficking and conspiracy. After watching the docuseries "Filthy Rich" on Netflix, there is a lot to discuss about her case and involvement. TW for topics of sexual assault, pedophilia, and human trafficking.

Today we journey to Madagascar, in the early 1800’s at a time when the country was being increasingly fought over by France and Britain. From what I’ve been able to tell, her story is one that’s hard to find the truth on because it’s been so exaggerated and twisted by history. I’ll give my final opinion at the end, but in most of these stories Ranavalona ranges from being literally the most evil and terrible person in the world, to a hardline ruler and borderline despot.

Gesche Gottfried is our murderess of the week, keeping with the theme of caretakers who poison and kill those who are under their care. Gottfried had killed anywhere between 16-30 people using arsenic between the years of 1813-1826, and was the last person to be publicly executed in Bremen, Germany.
Our murderess of the week was described as being sweet, charismatic, and a downright saint. At least, until she was caught and admitted to murdering anywhere between 30-100 people. This week, we're talking about "Jolly" Jane Toppan, who used her profession as a nurse to get her hands on opiates and sedatives that she would use is a deadly cocktail mix on her victims.
And here we go with part two of our Phoolan Devi episode! This week, let's talk about Phoolan Devi after she decides to quit her life of banditry. If you can imagine it, her life only includes MORE adventures afterwards.
We’re talking about India’s Bandit Queen, Phoolan Devi. She had so much happen to her starting at a young age, she was a child bride, kidnapped, leader of bandits, arrested and put in jail, and eventually elected to hold a seat in the Indian Parliament. And this was all by the time she was around 37 years old.
This week, we’re celebrating the start of 2021 by going back a century to 1921, and investigating the murdering postmistress Lena Clarke. She admitted to murdering a man named Fred Miltimore, but got away with it by pleading insanity. Some highlights include, her bringing a crystal ball to testify on the stand about her 12 previous lives.

Our murderess of the week was declared responsible for a series of poisonings that rocked a tiny village in Nagyrev, Hungary. A series of poisonings so prominent, that the multiple women involved were known as “The Angel Makers” of Nagyrev. And even though there were many, many different women guilty of poisoning husbands, children, parents, or anybody even remotely annoying, one woman’s name stands out as the overall instigator. Suzanna(Julia) Fazekas.
Today we're covering Mexican revolutionary Petra Herrera, who also went by “Pedro”. She was an active participant of the Mexican Revolution under the leadership of Francisco “Pacho” Villa. When she was outed as a woman, removed of her military rank and status, she formed her own militia of women with members between 400-1000 who would fight alongside the men in battle.

And what better way to celebrate throughout the month than by talking about a Russian noble who murdered many of the servants working there as a twisted sort of revenge for her lover having an affair with another woman.
Her name was Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova.
Otillie “Tillie” Klimek was born on October 22nd 1877 in Poland. She was considered to be a “psychic”, predicting the deaths of the people around her with astounding accuracy. Almost a little too accurate, as it turned out.
Let's talk about Tillie Klimek and her much less heard of cousin Nellie, who were responsible for the deaths of over 10 people.

A woman who was considered to be a trailblazer for many, a great teacher, and the woman who stared down a group of Texas Rangers and forced them to turn back from where they had planned on ransacking her work.

In this story, we’re talking about a woman who was convicted of murder, who’s story was as sensational as it can get, and who’s entire family has actually been pardoned by Australia’s Northern Territories court. Her name is Lindy Chamberlain, and she was accused and convicted of killing her 9 week old baby. She maintained her innocence the entire time, saying that there was a DINGO-a breed of wild dogs in Australia, who actually came and ate her baby. She was pardoned and released after serving three years in prison.

Our murderess of the day is Leonarda Cianciulli, a female serial killer who's love for her son was so strong that when he was drafted into the Italian Army during World War II, she decided to "save him" through human sacrifice.
She also turned her victims into tea cakes and soap, and gave both to her neighbors. Her capability to commit these horrendous crimes was said to be predicted by two different fortune tellers as a young woman.

Sharon Elizabeth Hall. Our murderess of the week. Also known as “La Pistolera” and "Jeanette Pugliese", she currently holds the longest standing arrest warrant in Missouri and the longest standing felony warrant in the United States.
You guys voted, and "Battle" Annie Walsh won. She was one of the more notorious female gang leaders who was active in Hell’s Kitchen, New York in the late 1800s.
I couldn’t find too much about her early life. In fact, a lot of the information that I was able to find was more related to the gang that she was a part of then Annie herself. So we’re going to do a little trip down history lane and see what, exactly, this gang she was a part of was up to in the late 1800s.

Happy Quarantine everyone. Like many others during this time I've gotten sucked into the world of the Tiger King.
I think that one of the zoo workers named Reinke had the best summarization of the whole series, “Lots of drama in the zoo world.”
But, it did give me some inspiration for this week’s episode. So, let’s take a break from the Tiger King for a minute, and talk about the Tiger Lady, Clara Phillips.
Why is she known as the Tiger Lady?
Well, for the brutality in which she killed her husband’s mistress.
Marie, also known as “Maria” according to some accounts, was born Marie La Roux in Switzerland, 1821. Her parents died sometime around the 1840s, and she emigrated to Britain to work as a servant. She began her work as a maid for Lady Anna Palk of the Haldon House in Devon, which was a gigantic country estate that was mostly demolished later on in the 1920s. After some time working there, she then began working as a lady’s maid for a woman known as Lady Blantyre. Lady Blantyre was the daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Sutherland, and was extremely wealthy. Queen Victoria was known to make stops at the house, and Marie was able to enjoy a life of luxury and status that was enormously higher than a majority of other woman at the time.
It was on a trip that she was taking with the Lady Blantyre that she met Patrick O’Connor-the man who would be both her lover….and her victim.
This week, I’m talking about Judy Moran, the matriarch of the Moran crime family in Australia. That’s right, we’re talking about the mafia, and if I disappear after this episode then it’s been a pleasure talking murder with you all. Hopefully my possible death would be covered by Karen and Georgia on MFM. That is my final wish so, y’all, make it happen
Valentine’s Day is this week. Let’s celebrate the commercialist propoganda holiday by talking about a cult leader who murdered multiple members of her parish.
Her name was Sachiko Eto, and she’s also known in Japan as “the Drumstick Killer.”

We're talking about not only the mysterious Cleveland Black Widow, but Captain America: The First Avenger actress Molly Fitzgerald, who was charged this week with the murder of her mother Patricia Fitzgerald. Happy New Year, people are still awful.

Patricia White is probably one of the worst murderesses that we've had on this podcast, simply because the murder she committed was so stupid and selfish. She is the first of 3 murderesses that we'll be talking about this week, all of whom committed murders during the holiday season.
This week we lean a little more into the women known for "mayhem" versus "murder". Let's talk about the 40 Elephants Gang, a group of roughly 40 women thieves who ruled London and other British port cities for almost 100 years.
Jannetje Johanna Schaft, The Girl With Red Hair. She is the young woman who I talked about last week who tragically died three weeks before the end of World War 2, the third in the Dutch resistance trio who helped assassinate Nazis and sabotage railway lines. Let’s talk about her.
This episode was absolute chaos to upload. But, technical difficulties aside, it's probably one of my favorite episodes to date. Let's talk about Freddie and Truus Oversteegen, sisters who were the youngest members of the underground Haarlem Council of Resistance during World War II. Their missions? Seduce and murder Nazi commanders, sabotage railways, and free Jewish people from concentration camps. All while they were 14 and 16 years old.
Let’s talk about our murderess of the day, Elisabeth Betty Broderick. This one, I actually have a little bit of a hometown tie in to. Also, there is a movie that was created called A Woman Scorned which tells a version of what happened with these murders. Let's get into it.

Alright, that’s a bad joke, but her name is Patrizia Reggiani, and she’s also known as Lady Gucci, because the man she had murdered was her husband who was the heir to the Gucci fashion label!

Our mythology is a woman who’s considered to be just as bloody, the legend of Bloody Mary. Yes, I did pair them up for the sake of that pun. Let me have my fun!
This episode’s theme is brought to us by the tale of Baba Yaga. And, imagine my surprise, when I found out that there is actually a Russian serial killer who is nicknamed Baba Yaga! And she was 68 years old when she was arrested in 2015, which makes her close to 72 now. Also known as The Granny Killer, her real name is Tamara Samsonova, and her story is one that is also full of mysteries. For example, did she really cannibalize parts of her victims?

This month, in order to celebrate everything mythical and spooky, I thought we’d talk about women from myth and legend who are known for mayhem and murder. Still keeping the “murderess” in “A Murderess Affair”, but changing it up a little bit just for the month.
This time, we’re making our way up north, to Canada, where the name Evelyn Dick has quickly fallen into local legend. A trial that resulted in a conviction, an appeal, and then a verdict of not guilty that took the entire world by storm. Let's talk about it.
This week we are covering the story of Catalina de Erauso, also known as the Lieutenant Nun, and how her magical virginity saved her from being prosecuted for two decades of murder. That’s right, you heard me. And for this episode, we get to hear the story from Catalina herself, via her memoir.
Julie d’Aubigny, also known as La Maupin and Mdsll Maupin, was a 17th century celebrity. She was bisexual, and a whirlwind of fencing, seduction, and arsony. Lavinia Fisher, well known as America's first female serial killer. Her legend says that she and her husband John Fisher killed an unknown number of people, using her seductive wiles, poisoned tea, and trapdoors built in to their hotel. Or did she? Historians are now questioning the validity of the legend that Lavinia Fisher has left behind, and in this episode we dive in to both the truth and the fiction!
Short and sweet episode! All about the infamous Catalina de los Rios y Lisperguer. Born in 1604, La Quintrala" grew up in a family of rich landowners, and had a cruelty in her that would expand to the slaves she owned, the tenants on her land, lovers who spurned her, and anyone she felt was beneath her.
"Lady Bluebeard", "Hell's Belle", and the "Black Widow" are a few of the names that the horrific serial killer Belle Gunness is known by. Born in 1859, Belle Gunness has a confirmed total of 12 and may have as many as 40 or more victims. She's considered to be one of America's first Black Widows, and the mystery behind her story is one that has perplexed historians and true crime fans alike.
The murderess of the week is Locusta of Gaul. Fun fact, historians actually believe that she is the first recorded serial killer in human history. Locusta of Gaul had a really fun nickname, “Locusta the Poisoner.” She took her calling really seriously, and created hundreds of poisons to help dispatch enemies of her clients in new and interesting ways.
If there is anyone who could be classified as "winning" at being a pirate, then I think it would definitely be Cheng I Sao. I'd love to see a movie about her life, because it was epic. She was the commander of an estimated 70,000 people, and she had the government completely under her control. This is the amazing and often unheard of life of the Pirate Queen Cheng I Sao.
