I must have recorded this sometime in 2002. I don't think i've heard it since then. I just happened to come across my old cd masters and this track was on one of them. I recorded this on An Akai DPS-12 using a Roland TR-808, R-70, JV-80, & Prophet-5.

Our loving tribute to one of our greatest influences: KRAFTWERK!! It was a tough song to tackle, but we did it anyway. "Numbers/Computerworld" from the "Computerworld" LP (1981), was a seminal track for anyone living in NY or London at the time, and for good reason....
We are offering this track, for a limited time as a FREE DOWNLOAD to all of our fans who've supported SPAZZOID RECORDS/NYC RECORDS over the years.

A Quick demo of the lovely KAWAI SX-240 in action. This 1984-released SSM based DCO synth has been completely overlooked and dismissed in favor of inferior Junos and such, but this might be one of the richest sounding DCO synths ever made. Here it is is dual mode, in which two of the same patch have been slightly modified and panned, producing a very wide moving, stereo effect.
Some chords played on the WALDORF Q, in dual-mode (16-Voice, 1st Generation Yellow Version) with long filter sweeps.
This demonstrates how lush and full the Q can sound. One of the best VA's ever made, IMO.
One hell of an adventure!!!

This 12", cut at 45 RPM has great sonics, and does these extended Confection mixes justice. This is the first time these mixes have been released on vinyl.
Featured here is "Let's fall Back"....A very CHIC inspired song with Nile Rodgers-ish rhythm guitars and Bernard-ish bass. Mid-tempo candy for the ears--here is Reeno's WHOPPING 11-minute + mix.

Back in 1984, the U.K. "Passion" label released a very left-field record. It was called "RUDE MOVEMENTS". It was unlike anything else at the time of it's release. (although it had actually been recorded in 1981, but shelved). When it finally saw the light of day in 1984, it was adopted by many top DJ's around the world, especially Dave Mancuso of NYC's "LOFT", in addition to Larry Levan at the "PARADISE GARAGE".
This was a real late-night "sleeper" track here. Very dreamy, jazzy, & down-tempo. Not a track one would immediately think of as a dancefloor burner, but it's mellow unique-ness sent clubbers to ecstasy...
Well, here we are in 2016 and with have the FIRST NEW RELEASE from SUN PALACE since 1984....
Mike Collins (guitarist & producer) has teamed up with Quadrant 77 to bring you "SEXX IT UP". A wonderfully jazzy, George Benson-esq slab of Nu Disco/Modern Funk!!
Instantly recognizable is Mike's guitar here, making "Sexx it up" the worthy successor to 1984's "Rude Movements".
This vinyl pressing has fantastic sonics and was cut at 45 RPM.

In the film, there is an audition sequence featuring Jon Lovitz attempting to sing "Holiday", and butchering it. I said to myself "I could butcher that song WAY BETTER".

Written & Recorded sometime in 2003 (if I remember correctly) between myself and a young MC named Asha Thompson. I wrote & performed all the music. She performed the vocals (in one take) and wrote the lyrics. (I have not seen or heard from her since)

The 2016 presidential election was something most Americans had not seen on such a level previously. A circus, a sideshow, & a trainwreck of COLOSSAL proportions to say the least.
The biggest casualty of the election was Bernie Sanders, who was cheated out of the nomination due to the collusion of Debbie Wasserman Shultz, the DNC, Corporate media, & Hillary herself in sabotaging Bernie's campaign at all costs--which included weird debate schedules, corporate media blackout, character & policy smears, and a host of other fraudulent activities such as election fraud.
This song was inspired by this.
Love this song to death, but I always preferred the intro on the LP version so I cut that onto the 12" version, replacing the original drum & bass intro on that mix, with the lovely rhodes/bass/guitar intro. (and extended it).

I produced this a few years ago, literally around 4 years before GIORGIO MORODER made a "comeback" by first being interviewed by DAFT PUNK, then making a terribly bad album, and now touring as a DJ.
Although this track does not sound like Giorgio's electronic productions, it was somewhat inspired by his use of arpeggiators in the late 70's.
Where is the Giorgio that produced "Spring Affair"? "The Chase"?.... Giorgio...WHERE ARE YOU???

This song was written by my good friend, MANO REZA way back in the early 90's. I was the drummer in his band in the mid-90's, and we used to perform this song with him on vocals and guitar, Brock on bass, and myself on drums. In 2004, I started working with a lovely vocalist from San Francisco, CA named GWEN MANN. (The first song we did together was my song "The Dancefloor") I had reconnected with Mano a couple of years prior to this, and I since I always loved this song, that it was about time to re-record it, this time with myself producing, and Gwen handling all the vocals.
I think it holds up remarkably well! I always heard a bit of Prince influence, especially on this particular version. Can't believe we recorded this back in 2006! Time flies....

This was the first of the two tracks on this release that Orlando & Myself collaborated on. I started it off with the linndrum, bass, clav, and other parts. Orlando added his trademark (real) rhodes w/phase shifter, lead synth, and pads.

his track was part of ELECTRO AVENUE RECORDS' "Time" vinyl compilation that was released in 2015.
Each song on this concept album was representative of a single year's musical style along the timeline.
I attempted to create a stark, minimal, and very analog sounding piece along the lines of Kraftwerk or John Carpenter.
I only used TWO instruments to create this piece--An ARP AXXE mono synth and a Roland CR-8000.
(Note: The Axxe was actually built in 1975)
For an even more authentic sound, I printed the mix to 1/4" analog tape at 7.5 ips.

I wrote & recorded this song back in 2004. The female vocalist was Gwen Mann. She had recently moved to NYC from San Francisco, and just happened to have read my craig's list ad for a soulful female vocalist. (This was actually AFTER I had hired the male vocalist to perform the verses. Greg was his name. (don't remember his last name)) Greg did nice on the verse sections, but Gwen really blew me away on the choruses, bridges and adlibs!! Gwen and myself ended up working together on many of my productions over the years. I returned the favor by being her drummer in her band when she was performing her solo material here in NYC.
This song was released on Dominance's "Battle of the Year 2004" soundtrack, as well as my debut cd "Funk it up" the following year.

A little tribute to the early days of House Music. This track has a lot of early Chicago house influences with a smattering of Euro vibes! Inspired by and dedicated to FRANKIE KNUCKLES, MARSHALL JEFFERSON, LARRY HEARD/MR. FINGERS, RON HARDY, LARRY LEVAN, THE WAREHOUSE, RALPIE ROSARIO, TRAX RECORDS, DJ INTERNATIONAL RECORDS, DANCE MANIA RECORDS, & many others!
There is the full vocal mix, complete with vocoders and classic house "chants", A "Stripped-Down" instrumental mix with a more sparse arrangement, and finally a "bonus beats" mix for DJ's who want those lovely drums isolated.
For that ultra-vintage late 80's/early 90's vibe, the track ends with some very familiar KORG M1 presets which are instantly recognizable.

A little demo of the ENSONIQ SQ-80....
This synth was released by Ensoniq in 1987 as a reved-up "MkII" of the ESQ-1, which added many new waveforms, aftertouch, and a diskette drive. Like 1986's ESQ-1, the SQ-80 was a digital/analog hybrid synth. The oscillators were static sampled waveforms, which were fed through CEM analog filters.
3 LFO's, 3 Oscillators, analog filters, very DEEP modulation options, and aftertouch, made this a very complex synth, but easy to program due to Ensoniq's intuitive LED screen/soft button interface.
An overlooked GEM of a synth!!! And it has that FAT American sound...

HERE is a little tribute to the Garage Heads, Larry Levan, & the writer and producer of VISUAL'S "The music got Me" (1983)
I just stripped it down to bass & drums for a video, but people requested the audio from it, so I did a little re-edit of it.

Here we have the first in the series of "SYNTHOPIA". The SYNTHOPIA instrumentals are basically meant to be dedicated synthesizer demos. "Dedicated" in terms of only one synth being utilized for the piece. (not including drums & percussion parts)
For this first piece, I have exclusively used the rare and obscure Italian-made analog DCO synth, the SIEL DK-600.
The DK-600 was released in 1984 and featured two DCO's and 6 analog voices paired with SSM filter chips (yay!) and envelopes.
This synth also sported 3 lfo's, and PWM.
Reportedly only about 2,000 of them were made.

Here is my original 2007 version of "Sex & $$$". I did a "revamped" version for Morgan Khan's "Streetsounds" label in 2010 which featured TIGRESS on lead vocals and MC JLA on raps. While I am happy with that version, it's this more raw original mix/version that I prefer. ENJOY!

Here we have my demo version of "Open your Eyes". This is what I gave Amy Jo Johnson to practice to and to learn.
My vocal is HIDEOUS, but I was sort of going for a Dave Gahan/Depeche Mode vibe here.
This rough mix is better than the Amy Jo mix, mainly because of the treatment of the drums.
This was my very first time in a recording studio, and boy does it show! The year was 1989, and a friend of mine was helping me record a couple of songs I had demos for. This one needed a female vocal and he suggested this vocalist by the name of AMY JO JOHNSON. I did not have much time to flesh out her vocal part, or even get a good take. What you hear on this is what we got...this is not even a "final" mix. I thought she was a decent vocalist, and cute as a button. My buddy was pretty much head over heals in love with her, but he never told her. On top of that, she was getting reading to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Not too long after her departure, I found out that she got a lead role on the "Mighthy Morphin Power Rangers" show!!!!
Neither my friend nor myself ever heard from her again....
I don't recall giving her a copy of this song before she left for California, which means that she NEVER heard this "final" mix!!
Well, I am sending her the link so that she can finally enjoy it in all it's glory! (I plan on getting a prompt "Cease & Disist" from her manager within days...lol.)
I played the drums and the synth parts on this, and a college buddy of mine played bass. (well, but out of tune!)
I have no idea what the synth was, as at the time I was all about the DRUMS! On this song, I was going for a CERRONE "Sweet Drums" vibe, so I overdubbed lots of tom fills.
This song could have actually been something had I put more time into it (and a bigger budget)
Ahh well...it was 1989 after all. We tracked this onto 24-track analog and mixed it down to DAT. Luckily the DAT still played and I was able to get a good flat transfer of it.

Here is a track I did about 5 years ago pretty much ALL on a Korg M1.
Pretty boring ROMpler I must say, but I like what I did with it here. I ended up selling this very M1 to P-THUGG of CHROMEO. I was at a gig in Montclair, NJ, and he picked me up and we drove back to my studio to pick up the synth. It was so kool meeting him!
I recorded this with my band at the time, in a recording studio @ $75/hr. It took 4 separate sessions to get it done, and I think it still stands up today!
Quite funky & humorous. I wrote this when I was very single in 1998, and was having lots of bad luck with the "telepersonals"...as the company was called then. They are still around, but now under the name "LAVALIFE".
I played drums, percussion, & sang lead and background vocals. Marcos Davilla Played Bass & Sang Backgrounds. Mano Reza Played Guitars & Sang Backgrounds. We all did the handclaps...and Marcos' girlfriend at the time also sang backup.

The featured vocalist is Gwenneviere Mann who has a voice very similar to Irene Cara! We've done many songs together over the years. The featured soloist is David Easton on Organ & Rhodes who I've known since 1979, and who is an amazing keyboardist & songwriter.
I did everything else. This track is not available anywhere else digitally!!

This is my little mini-tribute to legendary radio personality/DJ/Spoken Word Artist WILLIAM ROSCOE MERCER.
Anyone listening to WNEW in the 70's, or (more importantly) DISCO 92-WKTU from 1978-1985 will immediately recognize that velvety-smooth voice of his. I have lots of fond memories of listening to Rosko (and the other dj's) on WKTU in the early 80's, discovering all that amazing music! (yes, radio actually played GOOD music back then!!)
My wife actually met Rosko a few months before he passed, as she is friends with his (now) widow. She granted me access to his tapes, which nobody else has copies of (to my knowledge). These tapes are what I used to put together this track. All of the recordings I used were from 1985...most likely recorded on the radio (WKTU) the same day he resigned on the air. I actually used that resignation portion for the outro of the track. If you'd like to hear that, you will have to download the song!

Here is a brand new recording I co-produced with my long-time Collaborator Mano Reza. Mano was going for a CHIC vibe here..complete with the Nile Rodgers-ish rhythm guitars and the "Good Times" like piano chords.
All the vocals were performed by Debbe Cole (Of Malcolm McClaren's "Madame Butterfly" fame)
Mano played the guitars, bass, and keys. I played/programmed the drums, hi-hat, percussion, & additional keys.

I must have recorded this around 2005 or so.....Here is the story of this sick track:
My buddy DJ Creole & I were supposed to meet up in the West Village one afternoon to go record shopping. I got delayed somehow, and Creole was down in the village waiting for me, for what must have been well over an hour. The voicemail messages you hear in this track are of Creole, calling me to let me know that he was waiting for me, and letting me know how upset he was! He called multiple times, as you can guess by the sound snippets.
We are still kool though...no worries.
Here is something not in my usual style... I threw this track together in about an hour on my Samsung Galaxy Tablet 2.0. I used a free application that emulates an 808 & 2 303's. I am dedicating this track to the legendary Chicago House label, TRAX RECORDS, which was responsible for bringing the acid sound onto dancefloors all over the world. (But of course, this sound was FIRST heard at the Chicago "Warhouse")
As you all know, legendary musician George Duke passed away this week. I was so shocked and saddened by this news, as we all were. In fact, I was more shocked than most, because I had tickets to see him perform the same week! My heart goes out to his family and friends...His music will live on!
Thank you for the music George! Thanks for the writing, arranging, producing, and PLAYING your instrument so well. You were one of the greats, and will be mentioned along with all other greats.
I know you are playing your ARP ODYSSEY in heaven right now!

Here is part two of my tribute to Super Producers W. Michael Lewis & Laurin Rinder.
These two gentlemen were disco-funk pioneers throughout the mid to late 70's, and virtually played all the instruments on their records. They released about 30 albums in a 5-year period under the aliases EL COCO, LE PAMPLEMOUSSE, SAINT TROPEZ, CHEETAH, and others. Keyboardist Lewis was extremely funky, and was obviously influenced by artists like Herbie Hancock. Lewis' trademark clavinet with wah-wah set the tone for all Lewis/Rinder productions..coupled with his tasty rhodes work and amazing work with his Arp Oydyssey synth. Laurin, the drummer and percussionist, was the driving rhythmic force of the team with his relentlessly solid drumming and tasty conga work. The team also played all other instruments on their albums..including bass guitar and horns.
Together, the team's work can only be considered groundbreaking and ahead of it's time.....and extremely FUNKY!
Rick Gianatos did some very nice mixing work on some of these records.

From the same 1989 sessions as "Open your Eyes" comes this kool instrumental. Originally, Amy Joe's buddy Matt was supposed to sing it, but during the tracking of his vocal, I decided that this would be an instrumental. Matt was quite upset about my decision!
I played the drums and tambourine, my college buddy at the time played bass, and ALL the keyboard parts were arranged and performed by the engineer on the session. Both the engineer and myself were going for a sort of PHIL COLLINS arrangement and mood with the keys.
The original title of this song was "Love", but after playing the final instrumental version for people, all I heard was "this sounds like a new theme for ROCKY"...hence the new title!
