Last the numbers don’t work in order to receive 24 hour “sunshine” a propeller device would have to fly in the troposphere which begins 18 miles above Earth.  70,000 feet equates to just over 13 miles.

A solar  powered device might work well up until September 21st but after that nights will be longer than days. Even at 70,000 ft.

If these drones did log 67 Continous days of flight it was obviously done as a relay no single unit could manage it. The numbers just don’t work!

Seri is a cranky bitch. She doesn’t respect homonyms or synonyms, and every language is loaded with them. For example, there’s a difference, however slight, between a submarine & a submersible.
Hack Number two Using homonyms or synonyms requires human discernment.
Take it away Webster -- Homonym - a word with the same pronunciation as another but with a different meaning, origin or usually spelling. Webster NewWorld second edition (2002) P-304
I know the modern usage is “homograph”, but it’s less precise in definition./Ed note.Synonym a word having the same or nearly the same meaning as another in the same language. IBID.P642

Can you believe it — a “professor” of clinical research said:
“It’s really hard to boil water….. ."
Don’t believe me, read it for your self the WSJ July 1 - 2 p/D-5

No, good coffee requires hot water, just off the boil. I didn’t say it — Alton Brown says so. The writer was touting a $645 machine, which imitates a $7.00 Melitta single-serve device she used in college. Let’s consider renaming news writing ChatGRP - Chat/WTF.
Just because your so-called Barista can pull a handle doesn’t mean he knows coffee! Even if he has an MFAEngLit/Thank You, George Orwell.

*Let me let you with this thought — We live in a country that won’t drink instant coffee, but we are okay with news writing by Chat/WTF.

One wag once remarked that watching a bicycle race on TV was like watching grass grow. Meaning it didn’t happen fast enough.

That’s where the similarity to baseball begins. No matter what you might think professional baseball is slow & deliberate.

Consider these words from Bull Durham the movie

“Strike-outs are boring the fans want action…”

Yes, Seri Can Get It Wrong Again, A cogent list requires discernment

Fault Number Four for spotting AI in news writing:

When AI compiles a list it will include redundancies & conflicting statements.

Seen on Today (Channel Four Nashville) more evidence of AI’s basic flaws —

A story about Summer Savings in the fuel department — I find these two items on the list:

Use a credit card to accumulate rewards points,

Pay Cash,

Buy regular gas,

Of course, the “human” host created the caveat.

(Buy premium if your car requires it)

Here’s Seri’s problem —

Seri was tasked to make a list, she was not asked to eschew conflicting statements — that’s a human attribute.

It might be great Spanish grammar, but it’s a fraud, just like our so-called global warming and sea level rise.
Here’s the 411 — The Pacific weather pattern known as El Niño is a warm flow off our western coast, it is forced offshore, by the Japan Current a cold water flow (south).
The onshore winds, pick up moisture over the warm current but tend to dump it before reaching the coast, which puts California in a drought pattern.
The weather pattern El Niño means child/“boy” in Spanish, because of its erratic behavior, (Spanish words are gender specific) normal pattern is the flow of warm water forces the Japan Current offshore hence more moisture for California….
This is the same nonsense that has given us those wonderful Him-a-canes & Her-a-canes.

Consider this speech from Bull Durham by Kevin Costner.

I believe in three things: The baseball sweet spot, Long slow wet kisses which last a lifetime, and that Lee Harvey Oswald, acting alone, shot President Kennedy…”

Kevin Costner portrayed Jim Garrison, New Orlean’s, DA in the movie JFK, which speculated an assassination conspiracy — never believed anywhere else but in this movie.
Certainly, Christopher might have been better off with a One and Done. After his first voyage, his reward was the title Admiral of The Ocean Sea. It’s not well known he returned from his last voyage in chains. So much for Ollie's assertion that CC plundered those peaceful savages he encountered.

iPhone users were permitted to block calls starting with iOS 7. Before that, if you wanted to block a call you had to add the caller to Contacts. It was all good however Contacts is bottomless. Unlike my Motorola razor which permitted only 40 contacts.

California’s electric problems may soon be over — Two months ago (July 25) it was reported that a turbine exploded at Hoover Dam. The report was incorrect — it was a transformer fire.
Generating Turbines are not off-the-shelf equipment, of course neither are transformers, but there are many of them, and they are much easier to repair they are an exterior part, not like a turbine and interior part.
Instead of not charging Tesla’s, perhaps housewives in LA can “line dry” their clothes, go back to hand washing dishes or turn off every other light in their home. Any one of these strategies will ease the shortage.
PS You may not use solar energy to charge your Tesla, it requires 220V & we live in a 110V society.

A token of my appreciation is winging its way toward podnews an online podcast development service from the UK.
A podcast critic from the UK dinged a podcast host for “doing it badly”. Of course, he’s entitled to his opinion.
If you’re lucky enough to have a sponsor, treat them well.
The only thing poor performance can cost you is listeners & they are everything.
Yes, it helps to “separate” commercial content from “editorial” but that’s a function of “stingers”. Those little broadcast squiggles are so beloved of “real” radio.
I am reminded of a comment by Mark Twain “Never pick a fight with anyone who buys ink by the barrel.”
I have changed it to: “Don’t pick a fight with anyone who only goes by initials which includes: IRS, BMI, & ASCAP.”
FYI/Internal Revenue Service (the income tax guys - for the benefit of listers in the UK), Broadcast Music Inc, American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers. You don’t want to get that message “Show us your copyright”.
Fortunately for this podcaster, my Apple is populated with stingers & jingles, “Apple’s” royalty-free music
This podcast critique reminds me of those words of George Bernard Shaw “England & America are one people separated by a common language."

We got hurt & the nation demanded retribution.

We lost the first battle of WW IV and we don’t know it! We don’t even know when it happened. Was it the Marine barracks in Lebanon or the USS Cole? 911 was a wake-up call.

What are we trained to do in an emergency? Dial nine - one - one of course. It’s the one thing you may do from an otherwise locked iPhone.

Our problem is our focus we employed the same strategy as in Viet Nam. We fought an amorphous enemy on his terms. The famous “seek & destroy” found nothing & destroyed the wrong stuff.

We could have played The “Great Satan” card & made Kabul vanish in a cloud of nuclear dust. Sun Tsu would have counseled patience.

Know your enemy & in 1000 battles, you will not know defeat.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

The production from many producers goes through a common gin. Flaw number one, There’s no empirical evidence that organically grown cotton makes any difference. Let’s face it fans, adding the word “organic” to a cotton product is a code word for “it’s going to cost more”.
The My Pillow Guy on TV has got it right. The essential characteristic of cotton is called “staple” and Egyptian cotton is prized for having a long staple.
Flaw number two — “slub” is a technical term used to designate a yarn imperfection, thread yarn is prized for being smooth & slub free, a “slub” has the appearance of a “bump” in the road, definitely not desirable.
I recommend to L.L. Bean, that they substitute the word “cable knit” for “slub”.

My advice is to choose the weather of the local news channel which in your opinion has the best weather personality. I favor News Channel Two, Nashville — they have Davis Nolin the “dean” of Nashville weather — he’s currently the longest-running Nashville personality.
If you want a national weather app try AccuWeather — they have been providing weather services to small market AM/FM radio stations from State College, PA, since before the world ever heard of the weather channel.

If they do something such as “We demand producers justify price increases” — It’s just so much eyewash. Mass Market retailers stopped caring about pricing since the advent of the product bar code
Modern writers would call it posturing!
Retailers “rent” shell space to favored producers — Consider the soft drink aisle. There’s red stuff & blue stuff with a smattering of Green Stuff. Coke & Pepsi pay for the privilege of offering a blizzard of varieties of a single product and we believe we have a choice.
For confirmation peek in at the deodorant aisle and you find Proctor & Gamble owns that section.
Consider Costco, not only do they charge you $50 for the privilege of shopping — they offer only two grades of gasoline. Low-priced regular & high priced premium.

Tech News is more important than the weather!
Jamey Tucker WhatTheTech TV —
Not at USA Today

Tech writer WhatTheTech/TV Jamey Tucker told me that nine years ago. He was a reporter for Channel Two News Nashville Tennessee.
I have been buying the weekend edition of USA Today to access another of my “favorite” tech writers Kim Komando & paying an ever-changing price to do it. Today's issue was a disappointment KK wasn’t there and I paid $3 for the privilege of not reading her advice.
Perhaps the solution should be to open the paper & look for KK before I commit to purchasing.
Instead, The USA is telling us how our leadership is putting “baby formula” on a wartime basis. It’s a crock.

FYI/in the program Horsepower the generating capacity of Hoover Dam is estimated at 200,000 KW The city of LA uses 24% of that power to provide drinking water, that’s before the first Tesla leaves the factory.

You may be startled to learn an electric vehicle requires between 1500/20,000 kW to charge or about four times the power required by your clothes dryer!

See the site calculator.net under electricity calculator.

I accèssed this site looking for information regarding statements which didn’t add up in a recent program talking about power requirements for the LA Lift plant,

So-called hybrid electric technology is like driving the wrong way on a one-way street because it relies on steam technology for recharge.

Widgets were prototypical apps and could be managed by visiting Settings and toggle your selected widget on/off, they could not be deleted.

Widgets were by design to be always running, displayed when touched.

My usual recommendation for a weather app is your local TV station has the best local weather personality.
FYI/if you live in the greater Chicago area you can’t do better than Tom Skilling. America’s best-known weatherman — he doesn’t use “the flawed European model”. He’s got more experience than anyone else. Clime’s best graphic is NOAA weather radar. Accuweather also permits a download of NOAA Radar which I eschew. I prefer Accuweather Radar on my smartphone. It pins my location, not the airport as NOAA does. Don’t be fooled by the phrase “Doppler Weather Radar” every Radar is a Doppler device. Storms are either moving toward the Radar or away from the Radar. Radar is an anachronism for radio ranging & detection.

To paraphrase Mark Twain:

“Everybody complains about ‘time’ but nobody does anything about it….”

There’s nothing anyone can do about it. Time is how we measure our lives.

How do I know? Each year I buy an almanac. It knows stuff every writer needs to know.

In one of his most famous cases, Abraham Lincoln was able to discredit the testimony of an eyewitness.

The witness claimed he had seen the crime by the light of the moon. Lincoln produced an almanac that showed the moon had not yet risen.

Our concept of Daylight savings dates from WWI. Since that was more than a years ago it may be considered a historic event. It’s never been popular, particularly in rural communities. This is strange because it was envisioned as a “grain saving measure”.

Our main problem with so-called DST is twofold first is feature creep we have extended DST on each end. Starting in March instead of April & extending on the other end until after Halloween.

I had one hell-of-a-fight when I had cellular service with ATT — they kept billing me $25 monthly for Safari on my iPhone. I finally settled their hash by switching carriers.

As with any government entity, we must use the term service in a guarded manner.

Direct rail between Knoxville, Nashville & Memphis is a nonstarter! There is no right of way. That’s a technical way of saying, “there ain’t no tracks”.

Not so many years ago a member of the state legislature pitched a HiSpeed rail connection but the Cumberland Mountains are a barrier.

The Hoosac Tunnel (Massachusetts) remains our nation's longest rail at just over a mile.

Yes, I know The Chunnel is longer than the Cumberland Plateau is wide. It’s also built-in softer chert unlike the more solid limestone of our modest mountains.

Yes, we have the technology all we lack is the need, the will, and the dollars.
