Mamahood podcast is about everything motherhood. Safe space for us mothers to come together to connect, to talk and listen to each other
growing up the idea of a perfect family has always been being married and then having children , but this has not always been the case for everyone. i.e myself, I had a child out of wedlock let alone a relationship and that’s okay. My child is happy, healthy and she is striving and that is the goal. There is so many people that are either lone parents or have gone to marry after having children or are in blended families and that’s okay too. There are cultures and religions that really frown upon having children before one is married and on this episode I talk to a mama that has experienced shame and guilt from this. Not only from having a child out of wedlock but also coming from a Nigerian family that are pastors in the church.

Trigger warning: this episode is amazing but also could be triggering for some people. This mama was brave and kind enough to share her story with me and you guys about how she lost her children to the system (social services). More times I think people are so quick to assume that losing your children means that you are not a good parent. This narrative is very false, I hope this episode will prove that. There is so many gems on this episode. We touch on domestic violence, alcoholism, addiction and obviously how the system works when it comes to removing children.

As a parent you want to be able to protect your child from everything but you really can’t, and that’s okay. It is better to deal with how you feel.

On this episode I talk about co parenting. I wish i could say that it was going well for me, but then again this is not the case for everyone. I applaud everyone that is doing this co parenting thing properly and effectively. I have my really good friend Sophia on this episode who shares her journey so far on parenthood. We talk about how co parenting is going for the both of us, which happens to be two extremes mine being the ghetto.

“It takes a village to raise a child”is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must interact with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. On this episode I talk about being very open to getting support and help from trusted friends and family. A little time away from these little ones is good for us parents.

between the raging, confused hormones, the sleepless nights, the sore nipples, the endless changing of nappies, bibs and vests, the healing of your flower(vagina) and body. honestly I don’t know what’s worse between all of those things. motherhood is like being thrown in the deep end. you either choose to sink or swim especially if you are a first time mother.
