Having a child before one gets married tends to be a death sentence on the parents (usually the mother) within church circles. She is no longer viewed the same. Her prospects for a future spouse diminish. And then there are comments from church members who should know better.
This goes in the face of the gospel that preaches and promises renewal and restoration but how is this renewal and restoration to play out? What does it look like?

Some books are helpful and while others are scary. It is quite rare to find a book that is both helpful and scary. The Christlike Husband by Willian Gouge is one such book. It is safe to say this book brought mixed feelings from both Pastor Sibale and Mwansa

So much of what we discuss on this podcast comes down to worldview issues. The Christian has to view the world and his engagement with it in a particular way in order to please God. We have to know that there is a right and a wrong way to go about even the smallest details of life which is why we are exhorted in Paul's letter to the Corinthians to do all to the glory of God whether it is eating or drinking. What does any of this have to with hustling? Well we are glad you asked.

God requires us to take the health of the church seriously. In order to do this we must understand what harms the health of the church and how this should be addressed. In this Episode of Footnotes we deep dive Pastor Sibale's sermon titled 'God's Inquisition, Indictment and Ultimatum' and look at what we can learn from Achan's sin and it's connection to the health of the church

The devil loves to keep us at sinful extremes while God calls us to live a life of radical balance. This is why the world preaches the effeminate man who is a male mother in his child-rearing or the man who is aloof and not at all involved in that because it is womanly. When we see the world pushing us in this direction our mindset should be to go to the scriptures and see what our response should be. This is because as we run from one extreme the devil pushes on us, we tend to run to the other sinful extreme which gives him much relish.
Are weddings getting out of hand or do the old folk just have a problem? There have been a lot of comments about modern weddings and the extravagant nature of them. We should be able to determine if the complaints are genuine or simply a bygone generation feeling a little queasy that their tastes are no longer being catered to. In this episode we have Charles Bota, an Elder at Kabwata Baptist Church and Shoprite Deputy General Manager join us to talk about the issue of weddings. What is the definition of legalism and modesty and why are we blaming the victims of the wedding when they have little control over a lot of things that happen at their wedding.

Fear is not a bad thing, in and of itself. The bible teaches us to fear the right things and not to fear the wrong things. This presents us with an interesting dilemma. How do we determine when we are experiencing the right fear. When does our fear become sinful.
This issue becomes even more relevant because of the fear of death that is prevalent in our society. Before writing off one another for our fears we need to have a clear idea of what rational and irrational fear looks like in the face of a real and imminent threat.

Almost everyone is searching for it. Pursuing it because it is the thing that will make life easier. All ventures we enter into are so that we can get more of it. We want it even faster and can get it with so many betting platforms available. We pursue it without thinking what God, the maker of all things meant money to be. What is this mysterious thing and how is it to be understood and used

In a time when most people do not and will not read a manual, Christianity cannot be any more counter cultural since it is grounded on a document. God gave us something to guide us. A book that we can read to know about him and what he requires of us in relation to himself, others and the world around us. Jesus showed us this as he relied heavily on the scriptures.
Pastor Conrad Mbewe preached a sermon on the 1st of November 2020, that showed a reliance on the scriptures from the life of Jesus. He showed from Jesus temptation, after fasting in the wilderness, how the temptations Jesus face are so similar to what we face all the time and prove Hebrews right, in that Jesus can sympathize with us through our temptations. We dig into this message some more in this episode of Footnotes.

Not all help is good help. The book of Proverbs speaks of the value of multiple counsellors but also of the ruin that may come from too many friends. This presents the reader with the problem of determining what constitutes good advice.
With a problem like pornography this is even more essential because if one cannot make this judgement call, they would find themselves on an endless loop heading nowhere. So what does good help look like? We answer this question in today's Coffee In The Library

Christianity says sex is a good thing and yet at the same time claims pornography is immoral. It is not enough to say pornography is wrong just because we do not like it because our morality is not to be based on our likes and dislikes but instead on what the Bible says. And so the question must be answered, what is the issue with pornography and why should Christians stand their ground saying it is wrong even though the whole world says it is okay.

What do we want our families to stand up and be known for? Do the Scriptures have anything to say about our a prolonged vision and desire for one's family played out over generations? You might think it strange that this session is being taken by our youngest speaker rather than our oldest, but it is not strange at all. You will greatly appreciate this session
Bachelors Degree, Masters, Second Masters, PhD, Professional Qualifications et al. This is the environment we have come to know. The constant pursuit of an education has turned into the means to every end. It is the key to unlock all doors and is to be pursued at the risk of loss of everything else. Friendships, family time with spouse and children, love of neighbour, being there for the sick and needy can all be sacrificed on the altar of education. Have we turned to education for what only Jesus can provide?

It is said that he who aims at nothing will hit it every time. A lot of men in the church can say that they should love their wives as Christ loved the church and yet it is so hard to explain what that means on a regular Tuesday evening at home. Previous sessions have shown that it is not enough for a man to know what the text says, but he must think through the implications of it in everyday life. Pastor Chanski gets us past the first mile of this journey in today's session, it is on us to walk it out after that.
We save, we invest, and we build all to have some safety and security but is security really possible. The Bible speaks of a man called the rich fool who was punished for his illusion of safety, and yet we are encouraged by the same bible to save, invest and build. So how do we go about life such that we are secure and yet not give in to the illusion of safety

Teenagers can be difficult to deal with. During that stage so much is changing in the lives of these young human beings and they are dealing with all sorts of hormonal changes. At this time family seems more like a hindrance to freedom and not the blessing that God intended it to be. The world tells us that at this time we should leave the teenagers to be and they will eventually come good and return to normalcy. Instead the God of the Bible demands something else of us.
In this episode Pastor Mbewe outlines ten things that a teenager should consider as they make their way through this difficult phase in life. Watch this, share it with teenagers you know and talk it over with them

The Sabbath was meant for rest and so there is a way in which we find our escape through the worship we carry out on the Sabbath. However, we need to do this right. We do not want to only be active for God at church and neutered everywhere else or active everywhere else and yet neutered at church. We need our Sabbath rest to be done right and for this we have to go back to the scriptures
Pastor Mark has shown that we easily fall into passivity in the pursuit of our vocation and all sorts of work that we need to do as men. Yesterday he showed us how we easily fall into passivity in making decisions, using providence as an excuse for laziness, using peace as a reason to not think, and even calling our hunches the leading of the Holy Spirit. In today's session he will take us through how we can have dominion in the realm of our spiritual lives. How do we grow and rise up to be the men God needs us to be on the field of battle.
For digestion and application - The finest nutritionists in the world know that it is not just about what you eat but how your body digests and uses what you eat. Our consumption and it should be consumption, of the word of God works the same way. God does not just produce heads full of knowledge but hearts that love their neighbour and hands that help them

Big meal to get you through the day The finest armies in the world are the ones that have the most knowledge spread out in their ranks. The troops study history, attack and defensive tactics, emergency procedures and a host of other things. If this is to be done for battles and wars that are here today and gone tomorrow, what more for the battles that affect eternity?

In Session 3 we saw that we are to make something of the earth that God has given us. Not feeling downcast and crippled by fear because of the hand that we have been dealt by God but taking the cue stick and playing rather than being the purple four ball. In today's session we look in particular at the topic of decision-making when it comes to manly dominion
Essential to the start of each day - Certain elements of our warfare can be thought of in terms of food. Prayer is like our big breakfast that sets the tone for the day. How does it do so? What does it mean to live out our prayer life such that we get the resources we need to brave the day and the lions, bears and Goliaths that come with it

An overall view of the tools - Now that we know the nature of the battles we need to become familiar with the tools for battle. The Lord Jesus Christ does not send his army out with poor equipment. The best armies in the world go out with tools of precision that do maximum damage to the enemy. Why would our perfect and all wise Lord and Saviour do less? He most certainly does more
Whether you have heard the term Manly Dominion or not it is important to properly define before we can even think of going out to have this dominion. Pastor Mark starts his messages at this Men's Conference by taking us to Genesis and showing what God made work to be and what it means to have manly dominion.
The nature of the battle? Lions, Bears and Goliath - It is not enough to know that we are at war. We must know the nature of the enemy and the different battlegrounds on which we will be engaged. Any general who sends out his men without such crucial information is a failure and our Lord is a lot of things, a failure is not one of them. So what are these battlegrounds, and who are the enemies?

Did Jesus not come to bring peace? So why all this talk of violence and fighting? We live in a time of peace where solutions can be found if we sit down and have a conversation. This is what the world would have us believe, but it is not reality as the Bible teaches it. So what does the Bible say regarding this monumental issue

Music has become so prevalent in our time and culture that we do not have the time to think through what it is and what it does, let alone it's effect on us. It is interesting to note the special place that music has in the religion of Christianity. This should cause us to take a closer look and see what exactly God requires of us in and through music. In this opening message Mwansa Mbewe shows the vital connection between our music and our worship
Money issues can tear a whole through even the strongest of relationships and a marriage is no different. Two individuals who had completely separate lives are now to live together and share everything but should there not be some sort of safety net? What if the marriage does not work out? The bible refers to the condition in which the first marriage took place as the two being naked and unashamed. This is to be the template of marriage, but what does this mean in the realm of finances?

The book of Daniel begins to sound complicated as we get to chapter seven. This is because the apocalyptic literature begins here. Because we believe that the entirety of the word of God is inspired by God and has much to teach us we should not shy away from such passages. Pastor Mbewe gets back to his series in Daniel after a number of years off and begins in chapter seven with a history of wars and unrest. We have hope you will be blessed by this message.

Pastor Mbewe continues his series of sermons 'A day in the life of..' In this sermon he calls our attention to Jethro and Moses. Moses has successfully led the people of Israel into the wilderness and is overwhelmed with the work before him though he would not readily admit. Jethro advises his son-in-law. What can we learn from this example in the Bible? It is more than just historical fact, there are great lessons in store.

God made a marriage to comprise one man and one woman. Each party in the marriage has roles that have been given them by God. In this episode of Biblical Christianity Reverend Alfred Nyirenda takes us through what these roles are and what success looks like as we carry out God's mandate for marriage
This time last year hardly anyone thought we would have to talk about the reasons to physically go to church and yet here we are. In his Anniversary sermon marking 33 years in pastoral ministry Pastor Mbewe opened the scriptures to Hebrews 10 and taught on the necessity and value of going to church. In this episode of Footnotes we go a little deeper

Pastor Conrad Mbewe ends his sermon series in the book of Romans twenty-two years and 250+ sermons after the first sermon. Paul ends the book in the same way he begins it. Showing that all of life and in particular the Christian life is to be lived to the glory of God. This is a lesson that is lost to us as we live in an age that glorifies self above all.

Pastor Conrad Mbewe continues his sermon series 'A day in the life of...' and this week he takes us through the day in which Miriam lead the women in singing about God's wondrous salvation of the Israelites from the forces of Pharaoh. Christianity is a faith characterized by singing. In fact Christianity is rare in this regard in comparison with other religions and faiths. What can we learn from this spectacular incident in which the Lord displays his mighty power

We are living at a time when children are raised without a father in the home. More and more children are born out of wedlock with every passing generation. It has become so common that the dangers it poses are overlooked and yet the dangers are very real.
In this episode of the Pastors Studio, Pastor Mbewe talks about the real dangers of father absence in the homes. Let us use this to engage the world and bring the truth of God to them

Pastor Isaac Makashinyi of Emmasdale Baptist Church preached this sermon for a seminar in November of 2020. Is there something about Christianity or the Reformed Faith that diminishes romance in marriages? What does it really mean to be romantic between a man and woman and is this limited to marriages? Marriage is hard. If people get into it carelessly they soon find themselves in intense fights that can destroy the vows they lovingly shared on their wedding day. The world offers some tips and insights into what causes this but it all ends up as surface solutions to a deep seated problem. So what is it that causes trouble in marriage?
In this episode Pastor Conrad Mbewe explains one thing people should know as they get into the marriage.

The God who made all things made the institution of marriage as the ministry of health and welfare. Children come from the union of men and women and even as we fight for the world to acknowledge that children matter we know that children do not show up without parents, therefore parents matter as well. In this discussion the men look at why parenting matters and why the bible must be used to fight against the consistent double-speak messaging of the world.

Our culture sends different messages about parenting and children to us at different stages of our lives. Single women are told children are a hindrance to their best life, be your child's best friend, one child is too little but four is too much as well as a host of others. In most of these conversations it is taken for granted that children matter but what about parents? Do parents matter and if they do, why do they matter? In this video Mwape Mbewe, Felistas Mbewe and Jessie Himunyanga talk about this big issue.

There are a lot of prevailing views about mourning and funerals and a particularly common one is that we should not mourn someone's death but instead celebrate their life. As we face this issue more and more in the time of the pandemic that is COVID-19 we must look at what the Bible says about this. So how then should we mourn?

Child loss is hard to talk about but it is important to have such conversations because a lot of people are dealing with this issue. In this special episode we have Chisomo Wakumelo joining us as we talk about this matter and a new project Chisomo has started called A Journey Through Child Loss. We hope you will be blessed.

There is a prevalent view that faithfulness in marriage particularly men being faithful in marriage is a result of a man being weak or bewitched. This view is a traditional one but it is also a modern one as people give excuses for the promiscuity of married men. Such questions should not be thrown aside as obvious because they have ways of affecting our thinking, and we tend to only realize this when the time of premarital counselling comes or when a marriage is on the verge of collapse. So we should ask, what does the Bible say? If God has spoken, then we should listen and obey.

At first glance forgiveness seems like an easy topic. It is only until we look around and see all the relationships that have been broken because forgiveness has not taken place. Parents and children no longer relating. Married couples finding it difficult to get through issues. In a sermon preached at Kabwata Baptist Church Pastor Kayombo showed in the scriptures that forgiveness is an obligation. If someone repents we are to forgive. But should we know whether they are genuine? How can we know? And how can we learn how to forgive. All this and more in this episode of Footnotes

Easter is the celebration of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We tend to place a lot of emphasis on the death without appreciating the meaning and implications of the resurrection. In today's episode Pastor Mbewe sits down with Pastor Sibale and explains how he came to a renewed understanding and appreciation of the resurrection. Another issue he touches on is how the truth of the resurrection can be used to bring the family together in this time of COVID-19 quarantine so that the family can worship the Lord together in light of the resurrection of Christ Jesus.
