Welcome to the follow-up episode with Paul Endacott, Founder and CEO of Grit Search. Find out today whether the goals he adamantly committed to in episode 17 were achieved but, before you listen to this cast, firstly, check out Part One- Episode 17!

In episode 17 back in the midst of Covid, Paul set up a new search firm specialising in Digital, Technology, and Transformation across Asia. We got to look inside the head of an entrepreneur on the brink of something special. Paul shared his business goals over the next 6 to 12 months, what his hiring needs would look like and how this tech business would disrupt the Asian recruitment industry.

Paul is one of my most favourite people in this industry. He’s an empathetic, visionary leader (which I can back up that claim in the show – tune in to find out how!), and he always makes time for people. I don’t think there’s ever a time I don’t walk away from a conversation with him where I’m personally feeling pumped and full of new ideas for my own business. As always, it was an absolute pleasure to have him back on the show.

My guest is the big-picture thinker, Adil Driouech, Group Managing Director for JAC Recruitment International, the holding company for all JAC ex-Japan operations. Trust me this is a podcast not to be missed.

Adil covers how failure has build resilience in how he has built successful businesses in the past, identifies what characteristics make a successful recruiter, how trust plays a part in being a client-centric business and his dreams for an inclusive JAC Recruitment International.

For those not familiar with Adil, he’s just landed in Singapore from Japan, but this is an episode that will keep you hooked throughout. Adil is originally from Morocco, studied at the prestigious Sophia University in Tokyo, and spent most of his recruitment career in Japan working for Robert Half and RGF. He’s now in Singapore with huge plans to expand the business across all 11 countries under his jurisdiction.

This podcast really surprised me. Adil was brutally honest, and he displayed vulnerability in what hadn’t gone so well in his career and what he sees as non-negotiables when it comes to being successful. It was refreshing to hear such honesty and openness, particularly for someone at a senior level.

Our guest, Jess Deery, is an international, former magic circle lawyer. Jess built her career in-house for ESPN Star Sports and Sony Pictures Television Networks and has worked across the globe for some of the most prominent law firms in the world.

She’s had some extraordinary experiences, one of which was being a runner for the popular TV series such as The Apprentice and The Amazing Race, Asia. This taught her how to make decisions swiftly, take risks and deal with various talented people. This has put Jess in good stead for her current role as co-founder of Horizon Recruitment, where she specializes in sourcing talent in the legal and compliance space across Asia.

We explore what led a successful corporate lawyer to transition into a legal recruitment specialist role and build a business with her husband and how she’s adamant it’s not a sales role!

Jess will share her insights on what typically candidates are looking for from a recruitment partner when switching jobs, how to stand out from the crowd and how her company is expanding into new territories in 2021. Jess comes across as such a genuine, research-driven (listen to the cast!) customer-focused individual. I hope you enjoy the cast as much as I did record it.

Do you want to be your own boss, but not sure how to go about it? This is what Ethan Tan, Director of Annexion Partners did when he reached a cross-road in his life. Ethan graduated from SMU in 2013 (yes he’s that young!) and worked for the likes of Spencer Ogden starting as a rookie consultant and progressing to senior consultant, principal consultant, and Business Leader for the Property and Construction sector. In March 2020, he launched Annexion Partners which aspires to be a premier Built Environment global headhunting consultancy which is backed by the global recruitment firm NextWave Partners (who you would remember we interviewed Adam Wade one of the founders late in 2019) under their "Venture" business.

In this episode, you will hear Ethan’s story of setting up a business under NextWave Ventures, the highs, and lows, and his take on the future of Built Environment, and much more.

What we really loved about recording this cast with Ethan is his down to earth, humble approach to his work, and the emphasis he puts on customer service. We wish Ethan all the luck in the world with his new venture.

We don’t often meet brave people in our life, but when we do, it smacks us in the face and leaves us with an impression that we’ll never be able to shake off. This was my experience at interviewing one of the most courageous people I’ve ever met.

My friend Craig Brewer, APAC Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, and Strategic Sourcing Lead for TW Power based in Melbourne was diagnosed with melanoma, a very dangerous form of skin cancer, in 2018. He looked at cancer in the eye and miraculously beat it. He owes his life to the real SuperHeroes of our time; nurses, doctors, oncologists, and those who help run the healthcare systems we take for granted.

Craig will share his journey with coming to terms with a Stage 4 diagnosis. Returning to work was a welcome distraction, and how a radical treatment called Immunotherapy allowed his own body to destroy cancer cells. We will, at one time in our lives, be affected by cancer.

This topic is very close to my heart, so tune in to listen to Craig’s brave story of how he left his old self behind and now looks at life through a different lens.

Let’s do our part to support those going through difficult times, whether physical, mental illness, or anxieties experienced due to the lockdown.

If you like what you’ve heard, then share the link below with a friend or a colleague, especially if they need a bit of hope and strength during this time and check out the Cancer Council Website link for helpful tools for dealing with cancer:https://www.cancer.org.au/about-cancer/patient-support/working-with-cancer.html.

Have you recently stopped to think about what your strengths are? Do you know how to invest in those strengths to be successful in your personal and professional life? Well, our guest today was fortunate enough to harness his strengths early on in his life and he's reaping the successes of that today. Our guest, James Koh, CEO, and Founder of James Kenneth Koh Executive Search has been recruiting across Asia Pacific for over 20 years for the likes of TMP and Aquent. In 2010 he fearlessly decided to go it alone and has built a thriving recruitment business within the marketing communication industry.

What you'll be struct immediately when you first meet James is that he's not your conventional recruitment leader. He isn't one to don a stiff suit and conform. He's the guy that lights up a room, his positive and contagious energy has you gripped. James found his early passions in the interior design space before venturing into recruitment. Not something that tends to be paired together. He has transformed homes for clients as well as being a regular host on the HGTV channel for a popular show called “Small Spaces”.

In this cast, he will shine a light on how being creative has helped him be the leader he is today and will share why it’s important having a passion outside of work. With his wealth of experience, James has been through SARS, 9/11, and the Global Financial Crisis and will leave you with practical tips and advice that will help you to “ride out the storm” of Covid-19.

This is a highly entertaining cast that should not be missed. If you want to come out the other side of 2020 smiling, then tune in, it's upbeat and inspiring.

Why do recruiters need a Rec2Rec consultant? Surely recruiters can find recruitment jobs of their own, can't they? Well, that is the question that I addressed with two experienced Rec2Rec specialists based in Singapore Justine Bower, Managing Director at Intuitive Recruitment, and Adam Campbell, Director of Paddington Partners.

In this episode, Adam Campbell shares how recruitment firms are becoming leaner and more agile than they were in the past. He’ll share his observations of how some recruitment leaders are shifting towards a more hands-on selling role versus the internal development route and why this shift has arisen. For the researchers or 270 consultants listening to the show, he will impart his expert opinion on how to progress your career further. Lastly, he’ll share what commission structures are available in Singapore from large players to the more boutique and what some companies are doing to attract and retain the best talent in the market.
