Sermon for Easter 5, 2021. This sermon looks at the way Christians can too often become cynical or pessimistic when we, in fact, have very good reasons to be optimistic. View Details

The Gospel lesson did not make it into the recording, so I'll type it in here. The basic theme - given Jesus' calling of the fisherman disciples - is that the basic message of Christianity is really quite simple, even though we try to make it more difficult than it is. It's so easy, even these fisherman got it, and so can we.

14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

View Details

This is the second class on the topic of evolution. If you notice what seem to be skips, there are times when I cut out audience conversation because it is hard to hear.

View Details

This is the first class on the topic of evolution. If you notice what seem to be skips, there are times when I cut out audience conversation because it is hard to hear.

View Details

This sermon looks at the parable of the talents and the incredible value of hard work. Perhaps we don't say that often because we do not want to confuse it with our message of salvation by grace apart from good works?

View Details

A look at confronting sin and asking which should win out, grace or truth?

View Details

The main text for this sermon is Exodus 3 when Moses encounters God in the burning bush and gives his proper name. What does that have to do with Jesus? A lot!
