Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

I have taken WAY too much time off but I am back with another episode with the hosts of the National Javelin Summit, Flip Courter and Tyler Rathke

Both guys did not necessarily have a heavy javelin background but have developed a great passion for the event and are putting on an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in javelin

In this episode, I interview them about the details of the event as well as their goals for Missouri javelin as a whole and how the idea came to be

The event is happening February 19th-21st and you can sign up at njs.coachesclinic.com

As always, thanks for listening and enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

I kind of broke the top line this week but NOT having a javelin thrower on the podcast, but it was well worth it!

This week I spoke to Lauryn Williams who is the ONLY American woman to medal in both the summer and winter Olympics

She was a sprinter turned bobsled athlete who now works as a financial advisor and helps young professionals organize their finances

I figured that, as javelin throwers, we can all benefit from learning how to be smart with our money to keep us throwing as long as possible!

If you liked this interview and want to learn more about Lauryn and Worth Winning, you can check out her website worth-winning.com and check out her Instagrams @lauryncwilliams and @worthwinning

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I had on Andy White who is one of the top throwers in Canada and had a very interesting journey to get to this point

He was not a highly recruited athlete out of high school, took some time off to work, went to college and developed a ton, had success then did skeleton and ultimately came back to javelin

We love a story about someone finding their way back to javelin! Haha. Andy is an incredibly genuine individual and is someone I have spoken a ton to through DMs. It was a lot of fun getting to know him better and speak to him "face to face"

If you're interested in following more of Andy's journey, you can check him out on Instagram @heyandywhite

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast

This week I had on Curtis Thompson who is someone it was challenging to make a title for. It was challenging because of all the amazing accomplishments he has haha

Curtis grew up playing football and other sports and basically stumbled into the javelin one day. He quickly took to it and went on to be a national champion at JavU (Mississippi State) and is now an Olympian

It was very cool to hear the background of how he got to where he is today and I am excited to see him keep throwing bombs!

You can support Curtis on his website curtisthompson.us and check out his Instagram @curt_thompson! Check out my Instagram @throughthepoint_podcast while you're at it! Thanks for listening and enjoy

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast! This week I had on a good friend of mine, Mike Stein

Mike is one of the top high school throwers in the nation and comes from an uncommon javelin state, Iowa

He first reached out to me in the fall of 2019 with some interest in javelin and since then he has progressed like crazy as a thrower

He is now getting attention from numerous division I schools and is graduating high school this year

His story really shows if there is a will, there's a way. His passion for throwing is unmatched

If you're interested in seeing more from him, check out his Instagram @mikesteinthrowing. While you're at it, check mine out @throughthepoint_podcast!

Welcome to the Through the Point podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

This episode I was fortunate enough to have on Scott Russell who is a 2008 Olympian and holds the Canadian record of 84.81m

His journey was far from easy to get to the point he ultimately reached, including living below the poverty line and near retiring in 2005 when he was convinced by an older couple to continue his career

Scott (him, not me) is an amazing dude and I loved every second of this interview!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I had on (again) Kara Winger who is a good friend of the show

We talked about her coming off her 2021 Olympic season post ACL tear and how she reacted to the results she achieved

She was remarkably consistent but as any athlete knows, you always want more from yourself

She also discusses her plans for her last season and how it felt to be named flag bearer for the USA in the closing ceremonies

As always with Kara interviews, this one was fun!!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I had a very special guest in NEW American record holder Maggie Malone

Maggie has had such an amazing career and accomplished so many things but in this interview she also discusses some of the behind the scenes struggles she faced in between those successes

She had such an amazing year this year throwing 67.40 at Jav Fest, making the finals at the Olympics, and being so consistent

I truly think this is one of the best interviews so far because there were so many good pieces of information while also having many laughs along the way

Thank you again to Maggie for coming on!! You can check her out on Instagram @maggietheaggie and while you're at it check mine out @throughthepoint_podcast

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world’s #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I had on newly earned Olympic Finalist Mackenzie Little

Mackenzie competed for the Australian Olympic team and finished 8th after coming in seeded 30th

One thing I admire about her career is her ability to show up when it counts on the big stage

We talked about what she feels contributes to that as well as her career as a whole and the road to Tokyo!

She has an outstanding attitude and perspective and I think that is something every thrower (and person can learn from)

India is the talk of the javelin world now after Neeraj Chopra's amazing gold medal, so who better to talk to than the founder of Indian Javelin!

Michael Musselman is from Peru but has been involved with promoting javelin in India and developing some of their amazing young talents. It was really cool to hear how someone from across the world could make such a big impact in our amazing sport

I really enjoyed hearing his story and it also got me motivated to keep pushing my training!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

This week I had on Marc Minichello who had the furthest throw out of any American college athlete this year. However, he had an interesting situation because he decided to go compete on his own this season due to Ivy League regulations

Marc then finished 4th at the Olympic Trials and had the furthest throw in the qualifying round

He is an outstanding thrower and super smart individual who provided a ton of insight on how he has gotten to the level he is at

Thanks again Marc for coming on!!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I had on a huge Through the Point supporter and old friend, Jake Degenshein

Jake was a thrower at the University of Lynchburg and just recently transitioned into a GA/coaching position there

He had many ups and downs in his career including a number of tough injuries so his story has many lessons

We also dug into the value of being a Division 3 athlete and how that may be the right decision for many people

If you want to follow him on social media, you can check out his personal @deggg_dotcom or at his team page @lynchburgthrows

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This episode I had on one of the most athletic people I've ever spoken to, Chantae McMillan

You could tell how passionate she is about staying active and being competitive in everything she does

She went to the 2012 Olympics as a heptathlete but has recently converted to focusing solely on the javelin (the best event in my opinion ;))

It was cool to hear about the transition and also how she balances being a mother and an extremely high level athlete

Thanks so much for taking the time Chantae and you are always welcome on!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

Today I had on Barry Krammes who wears many hats in the javelin community

He graduated as a 2x All-American from East Stroudsburg University and had thrown about 65m. However, just 3 years later he had the furthest throw at the 2008 Olympic trials

After his throwing career finished, he continued to coach and created the Javelin Factory which creates opportunities for throwers to get quality training

He also is heavily involved with the American Jav Fest which is coming up in a couple weeks

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 javelin podcast!

This week the tables were turned as Mizzou All-American javelin thrower Sophia Rivera flips the script and interviews me, Scott Fuchs

I am the normal host of the podcast so it was really cool and fun to have it the other way

Sophia did a great job as a first-time host and asked a bunch of good questions

For those new to the podcast, I just had a season that was better than I could have imagined (72.12m PR, Olympic Trials, NCAA Finalist and All-American)

I appreciate every word of support I received throughout the season and all the requests to hear more about my story

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 javelin specific podcast

I'm still in Eugene so I used cheap headphones to record this introduction so bare with me

Cyrus had a great idea to take over the podcast and do an episode which 1. was really really good and 2. helped me out during the season haha

The episode features all 3 of the US Men's javelin team who were at the 2012 Olympics: Craig Kinsley, Cyrus Hostetler, and Sean Furey

There are a ton of hilarious moments but also such valuable takeaways about competing on the big stage. I'm biased but I do highly recommend listening to this one all the way through!!

Welcome BACK to the Through the Point Podcast after a long hiatus

It has been a super busy semester with me graduating and also competing but I am so happy to have another interview for you all

This one was so fun because it was a week or two reunion for myself and Bennett Inoff of Texas and Logan Wolfley of Kansas State

Logan was the Big 12 Champ after throwing 73.08m for a PR and K-State school record while Bennett took 6th after crossing the 60m barrier for the first time ever!

We all had great competitions and a ton of fun hanging out. We also had very different journeys to get to this point so it was really cool to see the paths that brought us together

Bennett's Instagram is @binoff and Logan's is @logan_wolfley if you want to check them out! Mine is throughthepoint_podcast while you're at it (;

Welcome back for another edition of the Thrower of the Week!

I was sidelined for a while due to getting COVID so I, unfortunately, missed some great throws 2 weeks ago.

However, I did get on an INCREDIBLY well-deserved thrower this week.

I had on Brett Thompson who is the #2 thrower in DII in the NCAA and is near the top across all levels

He started the season at 68m and has now thrown 76.65 for a new school record. INSANE

I had a quick, fun talk with him about how he has made that progress and how he bounced back from Tommy John in 2018

Check him out on Instagram @bto5 and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast

Welcome to the second edition of the Thrower of the Week Podcast series!

I kept it short again with about a 12 minute interview with Marie-Therese Obst

She is a thrower from the University of Georgia who just moved into the top 5 all-time for NCAA Women's javelin

She threw 61.28m at the FSU Relays which built off her outstanding meet #1 performance!

Check out what she was working on and what she needs to improve as I follow up with her!

Her Instagram is @mt_obst so check her out to follow up with how she does this season

Welcome to my new Thrower of the Week Podcast series!

The goal is to do a short 10-15 interview with someone who had a great performance recently to hear some insight into how it felt, what they thought about, and what they were listening to!

The first thrower is the current NCAA #1 Donavon Banks from McNeese State University

He threw a huge 75.05m throw at South Alabama to take first place and break the school record!

He is also a super fun guy to talk to so it made it even more enjoyable to hear about his competition

This one was recorded in Austin, Texas as I was traveling to my first meet of the year but this guest did not disappoint

I sat down with Nick Howe who is a 2x NCAA Division II national champion and has a PB of 78.41m

Nick is one of the most passionate guests I have had, you can really tell how much he loves the sport

He has had an awesome career and told many stories of success that were both inspirational and hilarious

Nick is the man so I'm gonna have to have him on again soon!

She also represented Team USA at the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships by winning gold

However, she was not always a top javelin thrower. She stumbled upon it in high school and ended up walking on at Auburn University

They recently created a page called Javelin Society (@javelinsociety) on Instagram with the goal of creating training programs for athletes

Both have seen major improvements in the recent years and shared the details of their journey on the podcast. Sebastian Skovhauge has the Denmark U18 record and Sebastian Risgaard recently converted from being a decathlete to solely focus on the javelin

Instead of sulking, he began his career as a personal trainer and in a short time has won back to back trainer of the year awards in New York City

He branched out to other lanes and has become a very successful entrepreneur

He offers some good (and some interesting haha) advice for all interested in life after track

He has an AMAZING story of being pushed away then brought back to the javelin multiple times and why he loves it so much

He was truly insightful into sharing his mindset as a coach and athlete. He has a PB of 75.89m so we are looking forward to see him breaking though the 80m mark soon enough!

Welcome to the Through the Point podcast, the world’s #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

This week I was fortunate enough to have on my FIRST 90 meter guest in the left-handed Estonian, Magnus Kirt

Magnus has a personal best of 90.61m, was a silver-medalist at the 2019 World Championships, and competed in the 2016 Olympics

It was really cool to learn about his background as an athlete in Estonia (a country I knew nothing about) as well as why he decided to not compete in 2020

He also does not think that left handed throwers have any disadvantages compared to righties, so get rid of all of those myths! Haha.

He is a guest who doesn’t need much more of an introduction, so just check this one out!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world’s #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast

This week I was fortunate enough to have on someone who as a former DIII thrower myself, I admired for his amazing performances

That person is NCAA DIII record holder Tim VanLiew

Tim threw 75.55m at a DIII school so we need to appreciate that for a second, completely insane haha

Tim was also a soccer player in college who considered track his second sport. He threw a bit in high school but didn’t even plan to throw at his school of Rutgers Camden

But as with many of my guests, the javelin somehow makes its way into their lives

A crazy fact about Tim is that he said he only threw off a real runway TWICE while training in college

My biggest take away from this was our discussion about the right “fit” for schools and not just focusing on the glamour. So high school athletes, pay attention! Haha

I appreciate Tim taking the time to talk to me, and hopefully you can all learn something from it!

As always, thanks for listening and enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin-specific podcast!

If over the past couple of weeks you have been wondering where in the world Javelin World went, this episode has the answers haha

Javelin World was by far the #1 javelin page on Instagram with over 40k+ followers. It is pages like that which have inspired my work for the podcast

However, it was ultimately deleted by Instagram after allegedly infringing on copyright issues similar to what happened when I posted the Vetter video

The page is, or was I guess, run by Kyler Osborne who is a former Division 1 thrower at Boise State and UConn

Kyler’s passion for the javelin is clear throughout this interview so it’s really sad to hear that a company who will not be named, in writing at least, got his page deleted

We unpack his future plans for Javelin World, why he loves javelin so much, as well as life after javelin

If he brings the page back officially I will be SURE to promote it. I think I speak for the entire javelin community in thanking him for the work he had done with the page over the years

Thanks for listening and as always, enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

I apologize for the slight hiatus, I had a couple of interviews and am just now getting to releasing them

This week we have our FIRST non-javelin thrower guest, but I think he is someone who can help javelin throwers out a ton

His name is Tim Brennan and he is the founder of Torch College Recruiting which just officially launched on Monday

Tim was a thrower at Dartmouth and has been involved in the track and field world his entire life

Torch is changing the game for track and field recruiting, making it far easier to communicate with coaches than ever

This can be huge for my high school/junior college listeners to have a great opportunity to get your name out there

In addition, if you sign up before October 1st using the promo code TORCH4EVER you get a free lifetime membership

Just so all of you know, this is not a paid sponsorship or ad or anything like that. I saw Tim’s idea and felt it really aligned with my ideas and is something truly great for the community

If you want to learn more, you can check them out on Instagram @torchcollegerecruiting or at torchcollegerecruiting.com

If you end up signing up, send it to me and I’ll share it on my story! Hope you all enjoy

Welcome to Episode 27 of the Through the Point Podcast

This week I was fortunate to have one someone who it would be hard not to know if you follow javelin Instagram

I spoke with Greg Millar, or @gregthrows, on Instagram

Greg is the #1 thrower in Scotland, is a massage therapist, studies biomechanics, and is amazing with a camera

A fun fact too is that Greg is the first person I reached out to for help when I started throwing the javelin haha

I loved speaking with him because it was great to hear about his career but also awesome to see how javelin is intertwined into his daily life

With those occupations, it’s easy to see the influence javelin has had on him! For a ton of great javelin content, check him out on Instagram like I said @gregthrows

This is the actual episode 26, I made the mistake of calling last episode number 26 haha

This week I was fortunate enough to have on Sigrid Borge, a Norwegian thrower who has thrown 63.28, qualified for the World Championships, and hopes to make the Olympics next season. All at the age of 24!

We had a really fun conversation where we talked about her returning from a torn UCL, how the athletics system in Norway works, what it’s like to be coached by Andreas Thorkildsen and train with Sara Kolak, and lessons she has learned in her short but impressive career

Sigrid was so much fun and I wish her all the best in her recovery period. I know she will be ready to throw far in the Olympic year. Hopefully I can have her and Sara on together sometime!

If you want to check her out on Instagram, her page is @sigbor and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast!

Thanks for listening and as always, enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

This is Episode 25, not 26 so my apologies in the intro haha

This week I had on my first ever coach/athlete duo in Andrew Bloom and Eloise Cappellano

The pair worked together at Whitworth University in Washington which is known as a Division III powerhouse in the javelin

During her time as a coach at Whitworth, El has worked with 21 All-Americans and 2 National champions, one of those being Andrew Bloom

Andrew is a national champion, multiple time All-American, and one of the best throwers in Division III history.

What is crazy about their stories is neither of them expected to be involved in the javelin at all. El was a distance runner for her career and never participated in a single throwing event. Andrew only started throwing after being cut from the baseball team after disobeying the coach’s orders and playing intramural Frisbee.

Stories like these are what make this podcast so enjoyable for me, you truly never know how people found the javelin

If you have any recommendations on other coach/athlete duos you want to hear from, feel free to let me know! I loved this idea and want to do it again soon

Thank you to El and Andrew from coming on and as always, enjoy!

Welcome to Episode 24 of the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

This week I was fortunate enough to host the official retirement ceremony of two-time Olympian and Olympic trials record holder Cyrus Hostetler

I am kind of joking because he hasn’t thrown since 2017 but in the middle he told me he never officially retired so he is doing it on the podcast!

In the interview, we hear so much about Cyrus’ amazing journey. He battled tons of injuries, improved 20 meters in 2 years, went to 2 Olympic games, battled with USATF officials and campaigned for athlete’s rights, and talked about the (sometimes) harsh reality of being an American javelin thrower

I appreciate Cyrus being so open and honest about everything he went through. He gave me great feedback before the interview about how he felt he could best express his story and I’m glad I had a platform for him to do it!

If you want to check him out on Instagram, his page is @chostetler15 and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast

Hope you all enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world’s #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Riley Dallzahl who is a 3x World Champion and 2x US Champion

As is common with many of our guests, Riley has a crazy story with how he got involved with the javelin. He started late in high school and decommitted from a baseball/football spot to go throw at NDSU

He battled a ton of injuries in college but decided he wasn’t done and has now accomplished so much and is still improving. His story is really provides so much value in battling injuries, training for the long term, and understanding what will make you happy in life

You can check him out on Instagram through his awesome handle @spearit241 and check out my Instagram @throughthepoint_podcast

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin specific podcast!

I guess this is technically the start of Season 2 considering I took last weekend off for my birthday haha It has been an awesome time and I’m excited to bring all of you more content!

This week I had on two masters throwers in Michael Ehr and Joseph Greenberg Something I didn’t know about either of them until the interview was that both of them started throwing the javelin in their mid 30s.

Michael is now in his early 40s and Joseph 70 and is throwing near the world record for his age group It was awesome to have on two people who were so passionate about the javelin and to hear about their experiences, what it’s like being a masters throw, and how they manage their training with their daily lives.

If you want to check them out on Instagram, Michael’s page is @ehr.michael and Joe’s is @meteorinnov8. You can also check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast! Thanks so much for listening and I hope you enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin related podcast!

This week I was fortunate to have on the incredibly accomplished Kim Amb

For those of you who don’t know, Kim is a Swedish thrower who has already been in 2 Olympics, multiple World Championships, and many more major meets at only age 29

This was an incredibly fun interview because I got to learn so much about the Swedish system for track and field, his experiences competing in these major meets, and a bunch of advice for throwers looking to reach that level.

Kim has had a great start to the season so far and is throwing in Germany next week and I’m sure we are all rooting for him to unleash a massive throw so best of luck Kim

If you want to check him out on Instagram, his username is @kimamb. If you want to check out my page, it's @throughthepoint_podcast

Welcome to Episode 20 of the Through the Point Podcast

This week I actually brought back two guests from earlier episodes, I had on the outstanding duo of Kara Winger and Ariana Ince

It was fun to catch up with them as they have been living together in Colorado and training for the past 3 months

The focus of this episode was “things they wish they knew” and “transitioning from college to post-collegiate meets”

We talked about getting sponsors, finding meets (and being nice to the meet directors), as well as best way to fall asleep on long flights plus much, much more!

Its always fun to talk to these two and I’m looking forward to seeing the results from their potential 1 on 1 meet soon!

Check them out on Instagram @karathrowsjav and @arianaince and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast while you're at!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin related podcast!

This week I had on the legend and 2x Olympian Sean Furey

Sean shared many amazing stories about his journey and progress as an elite level thrower

One of the main things that resonated me was his true passion for throwing and his commitment to train for 8 straight years after college to ultimately make his first Olympic team

He is super intelligent and overall just an awesome guy. I appreciate him taking the time to talk to me and wish him the best of luck with his training going forward

You can check him out on Instagram @sean.furey and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast! Let us know what you guys think, enjoy!

Welcome to the Through the Point podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin related podcast!

This week I had on Grant Benzel who many of you will probably know better as Memes4Throwers

It was actually very random how the interview came about but I could not be happier with having talked to Grant

He was a shot and disc thrower himself who ultimately stopped throwing early in his college career to transition into the coaching realm

So despite not throwing javelin himself, he has worked with many javelin throwers and his page is a focal point of the throws community

He was hilarious, genuine, and just overall awesome to have on.

I appreciate him keeping us all laughing during these tough times!

Check his page out @Memes4Throwers on Instagram and check out my page @throughthepoint_podcast!

Welcome to the Through the Point Podcast, the world's #1 (and only) javelin related podcast

This week I had on not only a javelin thrower but decathlete as well in Carl McCargo

Carl was introduced to the javelin at Riverside CC and went on to have a successful career as a decathlete and thrower at Central Missouri

Carl currently works for the track and field brand ESSX and is the CEO and Founder of TrackBarn

A really cool fact about Carl is he is the only African American in a leadership and sales role at a track and field manufacturer in the US. Additionally, Track Barn is the only black owned track and field company in the industry

He touched on it a bit in the primary part of the interview but we also dug deeper into lessons and advice he has from that experience after his favorite thrower. I normally give a question prep sheet but our conversation just flowed and I got caught up but I’m thankful he reminded me because I think it’s a really important topic and he gave awesome insight

Welcome back to Episode 2 of the Through the Point podcast, the world's #1 Javelin podcast. This week I spoke with Liam Christensen who is a thrower at Stanford University. He holds their school record at 74.78m and was also a multiple-time New Balance Nationals champion in high school. Outside of his success, Liam was also interviewed by NPR in 2016 for his work to get javelin approved as a high school event in South Carolina. He ultimately succeeded and it is now contested within the state. We shared a few laughs over different javelin stories and ultimately had a great discussion of why javelin should be everywhere.

Hello everyone, welcome to Episode 0 of the Through the Point Podcast. This is the world’s #1 and only javelin throwing podcast to my knowledge. My name is Scott Fuchs and I’m currently a thrower at Iowa State University. The goal of the podcast is to promote the event in both the United States and around the world. The format is going to be primarily interview based with people involved in the sport. We’re going to limit technical/training talk and focus on how the sport has impacted their life positively. Please share this with anyone who loves javelin or you think could be interested in starting to throw! Song: Coast to Coast by Galassie ft. Pmbata
