The lord is merciful and gracious; He is slow to get angry and full of unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. He has not punished us for all our sins, He does He deal harshly with us as we deserve. For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our rebellious acts as far away from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a Father to His children, tender and compassionate to those who fear Him.
Hebrews 12:5-10
Have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you, His children? He said, “My child, don’t ignore it when the Lord disciplines you, and don’t be discouraged when He corrects you”…as you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as His own children. Whoever heard of a child that was not disciplined?... God’s discipline is always right and good for us because it means we will share in His holiness.

The past ten weeks have proved to us that there's many things we don't know. The future, now more than ever, seems very uncertain. As we celebrate the birth of the church on the day of Pentecost we remind ourselves that the early church was launched into an unknown future (at least, unknown to them). Although there is much we don't know, christians do know that we, empowered by the Spirit, have a mission and purpose on this earth.

40 days after His resurrection Jesus ascended to heaven to take His rightful place at the right hand of the Father where all things were put under His authority. If Jesus is on the throne in heaven, what does this mean for us? We examine the omnipresence of Jesus, the assurance of His power to overcome fear and the work of His sacrifice that cleanses all of us our sin.

We never outgrow temptation. From childhood to adulthood we all face temptation to engage in things we know are wrong or hurtful. Temptation isn't a sin, but it is dangerous. Jesus teaches us to pray against temptation and to be delivered form evil or the evil one. How do we resist temptation and overcome it? That's the topic of the message this week.

Jesus tells us to be carful what our motivations are when we practice good religious things, we want to please God and not seek the applause of others. We expand this to look at the idea of living a life of pretend - a life where our identity is built on others applauding us. Jesus invites us to live a better life. A life of freedom where our identity is found in being a child of God.

Jesus tells us if we get hit on the cheek we should turn the other one. If someone takes our jacket to give them our shirt as well.
