This week we chat with Dr. Renae Reinardy!

I have been watching a lot of the TV show A & E Hoarders and was just fascinated by the psychology of these people and their situations. So I decided to look up some of the psychologists on the show and came across Dr. Renae Reinardy and she was from Fargo, ND. So I was thinking "No way! Of course I have to reach out to her!"

She agreed to do the episode and I am happy to release it! Thank you so much to her!

Check out this amazing bio:

Renae M. Reinardy, PsyD is a Licensed Psychologist and Director of the Lakeside Center for Behavioral Change. Dr. Reinardy specializes in the evidence-based treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Phobias, Hoarding Disorder, Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors, Tic Disorders and related conditions.

She is the Program Developer of CourageCritters.com, a skills-focused online and plush animal system. Dr. Reinardy serves on the BTTI Faculty for the International OCD Foundation, and PTI Faculty and Board Member for the TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors.

She has been interviewed on Good Morning America, North Dakota Today and the Joy Behar Show. Her treatment techniques were featured on Dateline NBC and A&E’s Hoarders.

She is an advocate for childhood mental health, the 2019 National Mother of the Year®, and a 2021 delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

So recently, like in the last week. I have begun to watch Hoarders. I started on Netflix which was like a more recent season from 2020 I believe. Then I searched and found the older seasons on Prime and started at Season 1. WOW!

I am just amazed at what these people and families go through. I wanted to know more about it and the psychology behind it! I even searched some of the doctors on the show just tonight before recording this episode and found one that is from North Dakota! So I reached out and hope we can snag an interview! That would really be interesting!

For the time being I just had to put some of this out there. I found some good information at these links: https://adaa.org/understanding-anxiety/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd/hoarding-basics and to help with an intervention : https://adaa.org/understanding-anxiety/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd/hoarding-basics/staging-intervention.

It is quite a disorder to deal with and according to the show upwards of 19 million people are affected. WOW!

Check it out and share your thoughts or do more research or help someone in need! 😁

As always thank you all very much for your support!

Hey oh! It's another solo Steve episode! My lovely partner Kathryn is working VERY hard with our kiddos during 4-H achievement days!

So this past weekend we decided to have a date night while the kids went to a rodeo with their Uncle. So I decided to plan a bit of it out and surprise her. We also had some impromptu fun!

I decided this would be a good subject to tackle again, solo, and share my thoughts.

I pulled from 2 different articles as well which fit perfectly! 😁 Check them out below!

This week's episode Steve took a solo ride.

It's crazy to think that after over a year and a half of therapy, reading tons of positive quotes, and articles. That I could still slip into depression! Well, we have always been about being raw and organic on our show. So here we are talking about my starting journey for looking into an antidepressant with a doctor.

This week this episode is released I will be seeing a doctor to find advisement on what could help me the best. We will then talk it about it more on the shows as they develop.

This episode is packed full of information as if I was (which I was) researching it for myself! So here are a couple of links to check out if you like: https://www.cigna.com/individuals-families/health-wellness/hw/medical-topics/depression-ty6745 AND https://www.rethink.org/advice-and-information/living-with-mental-illness/medications/antidepressants/

So in theory antidepressants help you get that chemical brain imbalance fixed and you can perhaps go off of them! WE can learn together!

Thanks for the support everyone!

This week's episode Kat takes the reigns and discusses one of her life passions, 4-H.

I admit I had a negative outlook on this in the earlier part of my life with her, which I discuss in the episode. I have now grown respect for this organization and how it's positively affected my children!

You can search for a local 4-H organization in your area too! They are even global!!

In episode 68 meet Joe Scarpellino aka Smokin Joe. He's a musician with the likes of Dead Larry, Ironstar, Space Monkey Mafia, part of Galactic Get Down Music Festival, on crowdcast as Parallax TV, and owner/founder of Get Down Enterprises and resides in Minneapolis, MN!

He had an amazing post on his personal page about mental health and destigmatizing it. Especially with men, which is one of my main missions. So I just had to reach out and ask him to be on our show! He's also a recovery alcoholic, sober now for 3 1/2 years. We really appreciated what he had to say about that! Listen for the phrase "lost time".

These are the kind of episodes that really engage my brain and get me thinking of past, present, and future. Thanks Joe!

Check out everything about him at www.smokinjoeonline.com From there you can find all his great stuff! Be sure to check out the sweet Facebook he started "Livestream Cover Challenge"! It's totally blown up! He's on the YouTube too!

For me, this is personally a huge honor! I have followed Zane Lamprey since my VERY early retail days selling some of the first HD TV's in Watertown, SD! 😲

There was very limited HD channels back then and I came across the show "Three Sheets"! I just connected with this guy and thought he was funny and it was a very entertaining!

Kathryn and I have followed him ever since!

Zane has had the enviable job of hosting Three Sheets, Drinking Made Easy, Chug and Four Sheets, where he traveled the globe, learning about different cultures by sampling libations with the locals.

Zane is the CEO and founder of Adv3nture, a clothing brand which produces premium travel apparel. The “3” in Adv3nture represents the three trees that the company plants with every product sold.

Zane is headlining his third stand up comedy tour beginning in June of 2021.

Zane and his wife Mel also foster many cats and dogs too! So you can jump on their Instagram and help donate if you'd like as well!

He is very upbeat, has a very positive mindset and gives some great advice to help deal with rejection and adversity!

A huge thank you to Zane for taking time to speak with us! 🙌

Visit www.zanelamprey.com to learn more, find all his social media to follow, and to find the Adv3nture shop!

Thank you for listening! 🙏

In episode 60 we interview our new friend Dacota Muckey!

I originally saw him running around at Harmony Park during the Shang ri La and Project Earth music festivals!

He was running around with his shirt off jamming at campfires! Fast forward a few years later and I snagged him for an interview!

I am quite excited!

Here's a bit of his bio:

Dacota Muckey is a singer/songwriter/jam-band-frontman from Indianapolis, Indiana. He began playing and writing music at about 12 years old. Equipped with an acoustic guitar and a passion to live a life on stage, he immediately joined a local band and hasn’t stopped performing since. Some of his influences range from old school legends such as Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix to newer artists such as Trevor Hall, Alt-J, and Dermot Kennedy.

Through dealing with childhood trauma and molestation, coming to grips with his sexuality, and battling drug addiction that resulted in multiple life threatening seizures, Dacota discovered his gift for music as a coping mechanism along his troubled path. Refusing to claim victimhood, he journeyed inward to reflect, heal, and openly share his story so others who’ve traveled similar paths don’t feel so alone.

From songs like “This Is the Music That Heals Your Soul” to “Life Is Incredible”, you can hear how Dacota has turned his darkness into brightly shining insight through his soulful musical expression. The new project, set to be released in late 2020, helps listeners explore the darker side of life and fully embrace the spectrum of human experience. His vocals are dynamic with a bit of rasp, inspiring one music critic to declare, “when Dacota Muckey sings you can hear a bit of pain being released.” This accounts for the way his voice grips those who hear it, plunging them into the depth of self that gave rise to who Dacota is today.

With a natural propensity for writing, guitar playing, looping, and singing, Dacota combines his talents with keys, sax, drums, and bass to breath life and vitality into the music. This is why he aligned himself with four talented musicians to create “Dacota Muckey and The Trip”. The brotherhood seen on stage is one of the reasons why the band has steadily created buzz in wide circles of music lovers from all walks of life. Consistently referred to as an “up and coming act with no sign of slowing,” Dacota Muckey & The Trip rise to new heights and gain new fans with every show they play.

Since 2016 the band has released multiple projects including Gypsy, This Is the Music That Heals Your Soul, and Problems in a Song Parts 1 and 2. Throughout their burgeoning career they’ve shared the stage with Grammy Award Winner Blues Traveler, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Laith Al Saadi of NBC’s The Voice, Matisyahu, Wookiefoot, and many others. They’ve played music festivals across the US including Bonnaroo, Shang Ri La, Werk Out, Thrive Fest Hawaii, and more.

With the recent purchase of an RV and a fire underneath him, Dacota has assembled a team of music industry professionals to help guide the band further than ever before. As the live music industry reopens and musicians hit the stage once again, you can expect to see “Dacota Muckey & The Trip” in your city soon.

What a dude! This turned out to be a great episode. With plenty of tidbits to get you inspired, motivated, and to stay positive!

John is into many things and over it all maintains FAITH will get him where he needs to be!

John is also a volunteer at DOZENS of other local events. John is also an entrepreneur and has started NUMEROUS small businesses.

He's been blessed with the "gift of gab" as his loving mother puts it. John has never been afraid to speak in public. This has been a big help in his chosen path in life. John has been able to be Master of Ceremonies (M.C. or Emcee) or a guest speaker at numerous events including the Project Management Symposium (2 times), Brandon Valley Chamber Annual Dinner (5 times), Auction Amore MC (4 times), Pierre Chamber of Commerce and KCCR Event, Powell Broadcasting in Sioux City event (3 times), Riverfront Broadcasting in Yankton (2 times), Riverfront Broadcasting in Mitchell (3 times), Plumbers Success International Expos in Orlando, LA, Dallas.... (They sent John a request, thinking it was a joke, John replied with a ridiculous reply and the Chippendales loved it. When they offered him the job, John didn't have the heart to say no)

In this fancy #40 episode we talk with Ryan Keel owner-operator of College Smart. Generally he specializes in helping you as a parent and as a student to properly plan for college. Not just monetarily either, which we get into and it's quite interesting!

We did have a little technical difficulty, but hey we are raw and organic!

Check out more from them online at

www.collegequickplans.com

Not to mention our kids are full of stress and I don't think we realize how much it is. I discuss a survey of 1,018 teenagers ages 13 - 17 by Harris Interactive on behalf of the American Psychology Association in August 3rd - 31st, 2013. These numbers have increased since then of course. So let's keep that in mind and learn how to have positive conversations with our kiddos!

I might say this a lot, but this turned out to be a great episode!

We hope you enjoy!

This is the story of Lane Logan. He lost his battle with PTSD in April of 2015. He is more than just a statistic and his family is seeing that he is honored. They have started the Lane Logan Memorial to help Veterans suffering from PTSD to receive a service dog. This dog is specially trained to care for Vets suffering from many different symptoms of PTSD.

What an amazing way to keep the legacy alive of Lane Logan.

His sister Heather Wipf tells us Lane's story and how they help other Vets!

We cannot thank her and this organization for what they do. Also, for sharing Lane's story with us.

We hope to inspire others through this story and show people what you leave behind. That there is help available and people who are dedicated to helping you overcome!

They have decided to take their grief and help others.

Every June is PTSD awareness month and on the 1st Saturday of June they host a bike run to help raise funds!

Please check out their site at www.laneloganmemorial.com and follow their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Lane-Logan-Memorial-145532599198464/?ref=page_internal

Super Duper episode with one of our original supporters! Wayne Hintz reached out to me and said he would love to do an episode! I am touched and humbled! What a stud! In this episode we talk a little about his perception of his own experience with PTSD. Some background on what it took for him to overcome, how he pushed himself to the next level and went back to school as a non-traditional student, and people can find help. We love to wrap it all up with positivity! A quote he laid down in the episode I have always loved: "Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

She's from the Midwest and hails from Scranton, ND and resides currently Minneapolis. In 2014 she partnered with the "Positive Social Media Tour" to visit schools across the US to discuss social media with students and do live performances! She currently plays live shows and also does motivational speaking! I am so honored to have had the privilege to interview Melanie Weiss and her husband Paul Frank Weiss. Those that know her story, know that she is sharing this with others to try and help and inspire. I feel we really need to reflect on that. For someone to relive that experience over and over again can be troubling. You may hear some of that in the episode, but there is healing in that process. Especially when you know you are helping others. For those that are not familiar with her story. She had a scarily amazing story with her bout of prescription drug addiction. How she has also turned this experience into a way to help others. This was an emotional episode for me as well. Since I have dealt with alcohol abuse in my life I can see it from the parent and the child's point of view. It's inspirational, raw, and organic. Talk about making the most positive out of a situation! WOW! I hope you enjoy this episode and can feel our passion. A huge Thank you from the bottom of my heart to them both for doing this for us! Paul is quite the inspiration too. He plays a difficult role during this journey.

Props to my wife Kathryn Thyen Jurrens for taking pics of our interview.

In this first episode I talk with Brittany Petrik. My wife and I met her in April 2019 and she have become a positive and great influence in our family! I felt like she would be great as one of my first guest. She has went through some trauma in her life and tells us how she has taken control and decided to make it a way to help others! What an inspiration! We are hopeful you can take something from this and find light in the darkness. I can't thank her enough for having the courage to help others. Please enjoy and subscribe for future episodes.
