This episode aims at shedding light on the impact of COVID-19 Pandemic in the County Government of Nyeri in relation to Gender issues. There has been a rampant increase of gender based violence (GBV) and teenage pregnancies as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic in various counties and the country at large. It is for this reason, that I sought audience with the County Executive Committee Member for Gender Youth and Social Services, Hon. Esther Ndung'u who gave me insights into how the pandemic has caused not only deaths, and loss of jobs but also an increase in Gender based Violence due to high stress levels among the adults and an increase in teenage pregnancies due to the closure of education institutions for 7+ months. She also went ahead to share what her department through the County Government of Nyeri under the able leadership of the Governor His Excellency Mutahi Kahiga, is doing to mitigate and prevent escalations of GBV in the county. The department has partnered with the likes of the Agriculture and Health Departments (County Government of Nyeri), AMREF Kenya and Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW) among others. When a person loses someone close to them, it is natural to grieve. This process takes time and involves many different emotions and behaviors. The year 2020 has been quite tough whereby we have encountered death of loved ones, illness, loss of jobs, and other forms of losses. These losses have led to grief and in worst case scenarios stress and depression. It is for this reason that I saw the need to have episodes on how to deal with death, loss and grief. Thanks to Madam Esther Gichuki, a professional counselor, who accepted to help us demystify these phenomena so that we are able to know how to cope positively whenever we are faced with death, loss and grief.

If you meet with Peter Muriithi, you will think that he was born with a golden spoon and that his life is a garden of roses due to his jovial nature and his great stories. He reminded me that though life is a beautiful garden of roses, the stems of these roses have thorns too. Muriithi's parents divorced while he was in Std 2. The person he thought would be his refuge turned out to be an oppressor who would beat him and through him out of the house at night and he would have to sleep in hedgehog burrows. He dropped out of school to look after his cousin's sheep and if they got lost he would pay the price by being battered mercilessly. From being discriminated upon by his maternal grandma since he was named after his Father's lineage, to sleeping in city council toilets for 8months, being falsely accused of being a thief and remanded in Prison; his is a story of resilience and unwavering faith in God. He passed through trials and tribulations which most were man made and many would result to suicide or use of hard drugs as a solution but he believed that God was not yet finished with him and as gold passes through fire, so was he for God had great plans with him. Mr. Muriithi agreed to give me an exclusive interview of his trials and tribulations and how his faith in God enabled him to overcome all those challenges. He also shared with me how some of his oppressors asked for forgiveness which he did even before they asked. Matthew 18:21-35
21Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" 22Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven. 23"Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. 24When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents; 25and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.' 27And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. 28But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said,Pay what you owe.' 29So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, Have patience with me, and I will pay you.' 30He refused and went and put him in prison till he should pay the debt. 31When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. 32Then his lord summoned him and said to him,You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; 33and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?' 34And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt. 35So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart."

Forgiveness is the greatest healing. Forgiveness is not a failure but a real powerful instrument invoking the intervention of God. Forgiveness is the real revenge. Keeping unforgiveness in our hearts is tantamount to killing. Forgiveness has three aspects to it:
- Forgiveness towards God,
- Forgiveness towards Others,
- Forgiveness towards Oneself,
When we have unforgiveness towards God and to ourselves, we kill both our bodies and our souls. When we have unforgiveness towards others, we silently kill them and ourselves, Many of us are able to forgive others the wrongs they do to us. However, forgiveness towards God and ourseselves are somewhat difficult.

When someone does something to upset us, it can be hard to let that go and move on. But harboring frustration or ill will towards someone else is actually just a punishment for ourselves. Luckily, there are Bible verses about forgiveness to help you through that very situation. A majority of them are about how we must forgive, lest we not be forgiven. But, we must also forgive, because God forgives us no matter our transgressions.
Forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean that the person is not guilty of whatever they did to upset us. Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting. Rather, forgiveness means letting go of the pain the incident is causing us. We forgive to give ourselves peace of mind, and in hopes that one day someone will return the favor if we ever offend them.
So whether a family member starts an argument, a child throws a fit, or a friend isn't there during a time of need, the Bible helps us to see the importance of forgiveness for transgressions small and large. Rely on these passages whenever you need a reminder that holding a grudge doesn't serve anyone, least of all ourselves.
