Personal branding and PR coach Diane Foy has conversations with thriving multi-passionate artists, musicians, actors, dancers, painters, photographers, and other creative souls on their journey, process, and entrepreneurship.
Solo shows offer coaching drawn from her 30 years of experience as a creative entrepreneur which allows her to draw on her photography, makeup artistry, and fashion background one day and her publicity, journalism, and marketing experience the next.
In part 1, I introduced you to actor Stacey Marie Keba as she shared her journey of Self-Discovery, Confidence & Branding. We talked about the coaching we did together but in part 2 you can listen in as I coach her through her limiting beliefs around money.
Stacey opens up about her struggles with feeling undeserving of payment and the fear of charging for her graphic design, acting and producing services.

Like many aspiring actors, Stacey Marie Keba struggled with a lack of clarity about her brand. As a former coaching client of mine, I invited her on the show to discuss her transformational journey from self-doubt and overwhelm to confidently presenting her value as an actor to the industry.
Stacey recently walked the red carpet in Paris in support of her role in Universal France’s 2022 French-American Comedy Mon Héroïne. Today she auditions regularly, has numerous projects in the works, and has added producer to her multi-hyphenated career.
Stay tuned for part 2 with Stacey to listen in on a coaching session we had around money mindset blocks.

Crystal Energy Recommendations for Courage, Positive Energy & Grounding
Bloodstone is the stone of courage & tenacity. It motivates you to focus on your goals and helps to remove energy blocks
Black Tourmaline repels negative energy. Rubbing the stone creates magnetic electricity that amplifies luck
Carnelian is the stone of motivation & action. It increases courage to overcome anxieties and helps increase creativity
Hematite is a grounding stone that increases mental focus & intuition. It activates creativity and manifestation
Think about your favourite artists of all time. The ones that inspire you deep in your soul and maybe even motivated you to become an artist yourself. Why do you love them?
You most likely appreciate them for more than their talent. It may be their personality, fashion sense, work ethic, values, or beliefs. When they share their vulnerability, struggles and triumphs you may see yourself in those stories.
The most successful artists don’t stress about competition because there is no competition. No one else possesses their exact combination of skills, experience and personality. The same can be said for you, however, most of us don’t take the time to explore and embrace who we really are and figure out what makes us unique.
During my sixteen years in arts and entertainment publicity, the media evolved significantly. An artist with a new project is no longer enough to garner press coverage. I began to witness too many artists and creatives wasting money on PR, radio and social media marketing campaigns before they were ready.
Artists didn't take the time to do the deep inner work of personal branding so the lack of results left them frustrated and defeated.
Personal branding is the key to success, and I realized that I could have a greater impact coaching artists through the process. I created the Superfan Attraction Method and the first stage is authentic personal branding. In this episode I will review the various steps to cultivate yours.

Artists and creatives have the power to heal, transform and elevate lives. But too often, fear or a lack of knowledge holds us back from living our true purpose.
As a personal branding and PR coach, I am going to be sharing strategies from my Superfan Attraction Method via the podcast, youtube, blog and social media.
My mission to educate, motivate and empower you to embrace your story and purpose so that you can make your impact on the world.
This show is me stepping into my purpose. Arts and entertainment has healed, transformed and elevated my life. My journey through photography, make up artistry, fashion, journalism, publicity and now coaching has all been to help artists and creatives succeed.
In my 16 years as an arts and entertainment publicist, I was thrilled to represent talent such as Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farrell, Big Sugar, Punk legends D.O.A., Canada’s Queen of Rock Sass Jordan, South Africa’s biggest selling rock bands The Parlotones, Mackenzie Phillips, Trailer Park Boys Robb Wells, The Walking Dead’s Alanna Masterson and Pretty Little Liars Tyler Blackburn.
I really had the time of my life, however, my main focus was helping up and coming artists get known. PR and marketing strategies have evolved significantly. Today, you can no longer rely solely on your creative talents to have a thriving career.
Sadly, I've seen too many creatives wasting money on PR, radio, and social media campaigns without taking the time to do the necessary inner work of personal branding. The lack of results left them feeling frustrated and defeated.
But here's the truth: media attention alone won't attract superfans. It's first and foremost about finding and embracing your story and purpose, and then having the confidence to share it with your audience.
My Superfan Attraction Method takes you on a journey through personal branding, purpose driven content and media spotlight. Solo episodes will cover all the topics that fall under those categories so that you can take what you learn and apply it to your own career.
I have also created a FREE mini course to go with the Superfan Attraction Playbook. The training will guide you through the method, but it will also get you taking action. You will get to experience a taste of what I coach my clients on with 4 key lessons.
This training is completely free and you can sign up at dianefoy.com/freebie
For special guests I will invite experts from a variety of fields to talk about creativity, mindset and entrepreneurship. And because I’ve realized that in order to achieve our dreams we have to be healthy. So special guests may include experts from health and wellness.

Brian Patacca helps creatives get what they want without suffering. 20,000 creative people get Brian’s newsletter delivered to their inboxes every single week – and when they’re not reading along, they’re listening to his podcast, Brian Breaks Character. The podcast ranks among the top 1% of most listened to podcasts in the world with 5,000 downloads every month and 270+ 5-star reviews.
Brian is the CEO of Team BKP and for the past two decades he’s been helping creatives get what they want without all the suffering. His sweet spot is helping people who proudly walk the path LEAST taken with down-&-dirty marketing and branding advice, all while spilling the tea on how to bring home the bacon (or seitan… He does live in LA after all).
But his secret superpower is his spiritual and grounding approach to the bizniz rooted in his training as a non-denominational reverend (read: Universe, God, Buddha, et al). He proves that when you follow your purpose instead of playing by a tired set of industry rules (read: limiting beliefs), you can skip the drama, generate momentum, and build excitement around who you are and what you love to do the most-est.
Not only does he promise the how-to’s, he has zero doubt that creativity is your divine birthright.

It’s time to talk about what happens after the show. Listen as I tell you about the time I danced on stage with Jane's Addiction and Joe Perry at Lollapalooza and the post-performance depression that followed.
Perry Knoppert is a mad multipotentialite misfit. He says "Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes ... the ones who see things differently…" So obviously, I had to invite him on the show. You’ve heard me say that I help multi-passionate artists, musicians, and actors slide into the spotlight with the impact and income to match, but maybe you’ve wondered what exactly does that mean?
Have you ever thought to yourself:
“If I’m being honest, I fear putting myself out there, being judged or failing. I hold myself back.”
“I know social media is important, but I get overwhelmed thinking about everything everyone tells you that you should be doing with it.”
“If I could just get an agent or manager or hire a PR and marketing pro, my career would take off.”
Gaining clarity on your goals, values, beliefs, and story is what personal branding is about and it is the foundation required before PR & marketing strategies will result in long-term success
Ask yourself: Is embracing your authenticity, creativity, and purpose important to you? If you said YES, I’m so excited to launch the newly updated Fans, Media, and Industry Attraction Playbook!
The 3 Phases of The Fans, Media, & Industry Attraction Method:

Can I be honest? Growth is not always comfortable. In fact, it’s usually not. When I started out as a coach for artists, musicians and actors, I had a lot to learn.
Yes, I had already been in the arts and entertainment industry for 25 years; however, coaching is its own special skill. It took time to develop my unique process in helping artists authentically attract fans, media, and industry so that they can make a greater impact and income.
But as I continue to build my business into what I’ve dreamt it could be, I’ve learned it’s during my biggest challenges that I grow the most. I mean, I had a full-on growth spurt when I got clear on the personality trait of my favourite clients.
Multipotentiality!
I am a multi-passionate artist so it makes sense that I have a special bond with other multi-passionate artists. I love hearing that a singer-songwriter also paints and makes jewelry or an actor also writes and wants to produce their own projects.
I love that I can celebrate my own multiple talents in my coaching when I can draw on my photography, makeup artistry, and fashion background one day and my publicity, journalism, and marketing experience the next.
I tell you this story to get you thinking, what challenges are helping you grow?
Every artist is different, but my most successful clients have the following things in common:
• They are open to explore, share & overcome the fear, self-doubt & limiting beliefs that keep them in their comfort zone
• They are highly motivated and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams
• They know that there is no overnight success, slow and consistent progress is what prepares you for opportunities.
If you can relate, but feel that you are missing the strategy on how to cultivate an authentic personal brand and attract an engaged audience of fans, media, and industry.
I have great news for you. You can get started on your journey right now. I have given myself the challenge to give away 30 free introductory coaching sessions in 30 days. Book your session at dianefoy.com/booking and let’s explore your goals.
You can do this!
My guest today is Mara Girone, a hand embroidery artist, writer, podcast host, and proud owner of the fashion label Mara Girone Simple Sophistication. It is a fashion label of ‘powerful words you can wear’, specializing in sustainable, hand-embroidered, and hand-painted fashion.
At the age of 8, Mara fell in love with hand-embroidery and regularly returned to this artform throughout her life. She could get lost in it for hours and although at the time she recognize it as such, she had discovered a powerful and effective form of meditation.
From a young age, Mara never had just one answer to the ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ question. She would say “I would like to be a writer and artist, traveling the world and meeting new and interesting people.” She was often met with comments like ‘she doesn’t know, she wants to be everything and nothing". But the real answer was that she was a multi-passionate artist.
Today she can say that she has fulfilled and is living her dream. She has owned a publishing house, writes articles, and is working on a book. She is an artist creating for her own fashion brand and having exhibitions locally and internationally. Mara is also a podcast host for which she has the privilege to meet interesting and inspiring people every day. And by the way, she has lived in several countries and continents!
I know that you will enjoy listening to our conversation. For links and a transcript visit dianefoy.com/079

Hello and welcome to episode 75 of Multipassionate Artists.
I am so excited about the upcoming episodes I have in the works for you. Along with interviews with a variety of multi-passionate artists, I’m also going to try out a new format with real-life coaching sessions.
An artist just like you will volunteer to be in the hot seat and you will be able to listen as I coach them to a solution. Topics will include how to choose what to focus on when you have so many interests, how to set achievable goals, how to break through creative blocks and limiting beliefs, and how to show up authentically in every aspect of your life.
Of course, pr and marketing strategies will come up, however, I believe that you can’t be successful without first building a solid foundation with authentic personal branding.
Shoot me an email at podcast@dianefoy.com if you are interested in volunteering.
I want to shout out a new review for the podcast and the first for Multipassionate Artists.

Hello and welcome to episode 73 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
It has been longer than the normal break between episodes this time and honestly, it was because I was not feeling inspired. For the podcast, but also what I was posting on social media and the whole way I have been communicating about what I do, who I coach, and how I help them.
I had a breakthrough idea last week and I have jumped in to make it a reality so changes are coming very soon. Stay tuned for a new name, new focus, and new inspiring content. My purpose is still all about arts, entertainment, and creativity so I’m confident that you will all want to come along for the ride.
Recorded during the Music Pro Summit by CDBaby and Indie Week, today’s episode is a Q&A with artists Quanthem, who is a coaching client of mine, Eli Glenn who goes by Always the Grimm and hosts the Zensational podcast, and Alex Hajjar who hosts the Social Animals podcast.
We had an inspiring conversation about the importance of an artist’s story in attracting fans, media and industry, personal branding, and pushing your comfort zone to show up authentically.
My whole life I have been passionate about arts and entertainment. When I was a kid I was so shy but I was drawn to the worlds that musicians, actors, and dancers created.
In my creative entrepreneur journey, I have been a photographer, makeup artist, journalist, artist manager, publicist, or now coach. The motivation behind all it was to help performers succeed.
As a coach, I help artists, musicians and actors attract fans, media, and industry so that you can make a greater impact and income.
This podcast is another resource I created to educate, motivate and empower artists to stop letting fear and a lack of knowledge hold them back from achieving their dreams.
So today at the Music Pro Summit I invited some artists on the show to ask whatever questions they have about personal branding, social media or publicity.

Hello and welcome to episode 72 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
I’ve been a guest on some amazing podcasts lately so I wanted to shout out some shows that you should check out. Plus I always think I’m much more entertaining and provide more value on other shows than on my own. I think it is because of the great questions the hosts ask me.
To hear how to market your music so that you attract fans listen to the Dare To Be Seen podcast. The importance of knowing your why before marketing what you do is the focus of the All Things Vocal podcast. On the Profitable Musicians podcast, I talked about the importance of sharing your unique story to genuinely connect with audiences. I talk about Personal branding and goal setting on the Art Talk podcast and social media marketing on the Out To Be podcast. I was also a guest on the Actor CEO podcast with today’s guest Mike Moreno where we talked about publicity and branding for actors. You can check out all of these episodes and more at http://dianefoy.com/media
Today’s guest Mike Moreno runs The Actor CEO Podcast and ActorCEO.com, connecting thousands of actors worldwide to industry pros, tools, and resources that help them treat their career like a business filling the gap between training and building a sustainable creative life.
Backstage and Casting Networks have both rated the podcast as a "top podcast for actors.", Mike contributes articles to Backstage, OnStageBlog, and StageMilk and also teaches industry business and marketing classes in drama schools around the country and coaches creative professional online.

There is a new review out of Canada by CJ jellybeansduncken who says
“Diane Foy is an amazing host, she is incredible, every time I listen to her podcast she always interviews the most inspiring artists that help motivate and inspire me in life. I like how Diane talks on her podcast, it’s really clear and professional.”
That right there is the reason why I do this. I want to motivate and inspire people to pursue their passions.
Hello and welcome to episode 70 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Let's talk transformations...By now, you probably know that I am a branding and PR coach for artists, musicians, and actors, but today I want to shift gears to talk about the transformation my coaching can do for you!
I believe that in order to attract fans, media, and industry you need to explore your purpose, identity, and story which is all a part of personal branding. With an authentic personal brand along with social media and communication strategies, you can be unstoppable.
That’s why people like Tamara Maddalen had such a breakthrough and went from overwhelmed without a plan to successfully launching her Mint Green Mercury album.
By exploring her authentic artist identity, she was able to fearlessly pursue her passions and attract loyal fans, media coverage, and music industry opportunities. She is now also 1/3 of country music’s hottest new trio New Moon Junction.
Tamara is just one of my client success stories and I’d love for you to experience this transformation, too. So for a limited time, I’m offering a free introductory coaching session for listeners of this podcast. Visit dianefoy.com/booking
My guest today isDr. Natasha Kassam Paris who is a Naturopathic Doctor (ND) and Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT™) Practitioner. She uses her diverse clinical background, rich cultural heritage, and lived experiences to help women of color transform every facet of their lives and create a new sense of belonging.
Dr. Natasha is a part of the Six Figure Coach Club that I am in as our mindset coach. I have also taken her Embracing the Saboteur workshop which is available for free right now on her website. You can learn how to douse self-sabotage with attention, curiosity, and compassion. You'll be introduced to powerful, self-care practices that can help you leap beyond your sabotage behaviors and reactive post-trauma responses.
As another one of my mentors, Jasmine Star would say “Prepare your heart” because we go deep and I know that it will inspire you.

Hello and welcome to episode 69 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
I’m going to start the show with a little-known fact… For most of my life, I tiptoed around in order to go unnoticed. I was passionate about the performing arts, however, I was way too shy to become a performer. As a photographer, makeup artist, journalist, artist manager, and publicist I could remain behind the scenes, but becoming a coach changed that for me.
As a creativity coach, we dig deep into core values, limiting beliefs, and personal motivation for achieving goals. Encouraging my clients to show up authentically, to share vulnerabilities, and to push through their comfort zones motivates me to lead by example and do the same.
Now when I notice I am procrastinating on something I examine the why behind it, what fear or limiting belief am I holding on to? Then I work to push through. And I’m grateful for the change!
Listeners have heard me say before that the reason I got into coaching was out of frustration that too many artists were coming to me for publicity before they were really ready. In order to get media attention these days, you need a professional brand, interesting stories, and an active social media following. Through coaching I can guide you through developing those step by step, however, lately, I’m realizing that in my attempts to give the people what they want which is for me to teach them about social media and dyi publicity that I’ve started to allow clients to again skip over the foundational work.
The foundation is personal branding which is all about expressing your authentic self in all its glory. It is exploring and celebrating your personality, interests, life experiences, core values, beliefs, skills, strengths, and even your weaknesses. It is deeply personal work that I believe strongly that you can’t have long-lasting success if you skip it.
I’m sharing this because it is good to take a step back and remember the why behind your vision and notice if you are going off track. So you may notice on the podcast or things I share on social media that I’m going to return to focus on the foundations more so than giving you social media and publicity tips.
My guest today knows all about sticking to your vision so much so that Stick to your vision has grown from a song that he wrote and recorded to a book to Ted talks to being a major part of his personal and professional brand.
Maestro Fresh Wes is a multi-award-winning recording artist, and the first Canadian Hip Hop artist to have a single hit Gold status on the charts. His iconic 1989 album Symphony In Effect was the first to receive a JUNO Award for Best Rap Recording of the Year, as well as the first Canadian Hip Hop album to go Platinum. A true pioneer, he was also the first Canadian hip hop artist to have a song rank on Billboard’s Top 20 Rap Singles chart, and in 2019 “Let Your Backbone Slide” became the first rap song inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Maestro’s songs “Reach For The Sky (feat. Classified and Blue Rodeo)” and “The Distance (feat. Saukrates)” were featured throughout the Olympics, 2014 Winter, and 2016 Summer, respectively.
As an actor, Williams has appeared on numerous film and television projects, including The Line — for which he was nominated for a Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series — and as the character of Paul Dwyer in the CBC hit sitcom, Mr. D.
He has been inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame, received the 2003 Reel World Film Festival Trailblazer Award, and was a guest speaker for the Governor-General of Canada’s Summit on Urban Arts.
Williams’ paths as both an author and motivational speaker merged with the release of his motivational book, Stick To Your Vision with its foreword written by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, and content long-credited for inspiring fellow Canadian hip hop star Drake.
Canada’s indisputable Godfather of hip hop has just unveiled his newest release — an inspirational children’s book, Stick To Your Vision: Young Maestro Goes to School.
How is that for an introduction…the man is a legend and a super sweet guy too. I hope you enjoy our conversation.

Hello and welcome to episode 68 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
I wanted to start this episode with some gratitude. I’ve been creating this podcast for over 2 years and it is nearing 8,000 downloads. That may not be a lot in comparison to many others out there but I’m always coaching artists about how slow and steady growth is longer-lasting growth. I wanted to take a moment to recognize some listeners who took the time to leave a review for the show. It means so much to me each and every time someone tells me that they either learned something new or were inspired by an episode.
The first one comes from Nella Marina who says about the show “What a wonderful resource to have in your pocket! So many amazing tips from an industry expert. Thank you for all of the amazing free information that you put out there!”
Nella, thank you so much for your kind words and because I google everyone, I know that Nella Marina is an Australian actress from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, who has relocated to Vancouver, BC, Canada. That is very cool. I love Australians and grew up in Vancouver.
Another recent review was from a previous guest of the show. Vocal coach Judy Rodman says “This podcast is a quality audio experience that doesn't waste time getting to the heart of matters of interest to singers, dancers, actors, and other artists. I had the honor of being interviewed and found Diane's experience in the field of the arts made her an insightful interviewer who knows how to dig into the good stuff!”
That is so sweet and I loved my conversation with Judy so if you missed it definitely visit episode 66 and hear all about her 50-year career in the music industry.
I love seeing where people are from that are downloading the show. The number one country now is India. I have no idea why but that is fantastic. USA and Canada are next. I also want to shout out listeners from France, Senegal, UK, Australia, Brazil, and Spain. How cool is that?
I would absolutely love to hear from you all. It would mean the world to me if you could leave a review on itunes. Take a screenshot and tag me @dianefoypr and I’ll be sure to share it and give you a shout-out on a future episode.

Hello and welcome to episode 67 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Are you one to set goals or go with the flow? I lived go with the flow for far too many years. I am most creative when I don’t have a specific plan, but I’ve learned that a goal without a plan is just a wish or dream.
Right now, I’m aiming to fill my coaching practice with 5 more musician or actor clients so that I can help them attract fans, media, and industry and so that the world can experience their talent.
My plan to achieve that is to offer 20 free coaching sessions over the next month. If you are looking to increase your confidence and online presence so that they can book more gigs you can schedule a session at dianefoy.com/booking

Hello and welcome to episode 65 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
2020 did not go according to plan! In 2021, so many things are still uncertain, like when live concerts, theatre, festivals, and other events will return. What I know for sure, though, is why I got into coaching unstoppable musicians and actors in the first place.
I have a real passion for the performing arts and I am committed to helping my clients attract fans, media, and industry so that they can make money with their talents. It is my purpose in life.
I love the descriptive word “unstoppable” because my ideal clients didn’t just wait around last year for things to go back to normal. They were resourceful, proactive, and persistent in educating themselves and growing their audience online.
I can coach performers on the how of personal branding, social media, and PR, but the key to success is taking consistent action.
Does this describe you? or who you want to become?
I announced on the podcast a few weeks ago that I was giving myself the challenge to give away 45 free coaching sessions in 45 days to qualified musicians and actors. It has been fantastic to connect with so many of you during the last couple of weeks.
I will continue the offer throughout April so if you haven’t yet had an introductory session with me, now is the time! Visit Dianefoy.com/booking Thank you so much for your help and I hope to see you on zoom soon.

2020 reinforced for me that we in the entertainment industry need community, we need to ask for help, and we need to offer help when we can.
My offer to help:
As a PR & marketing coach,I help musicians and actors attract fans, media, and industry so that they can book gigs and make money with their talents, without feeling overwhelmed or doubting themselves.
After 16 years as an entertainment publicist, I’ve made a milestone decision for 2021 to no longer offer publicity services and go all-in on coaching because that’s where I can have a deeper impact.
This is why I’ve set a goal to give away 45 FREE coaching sessions in 45 days so I can truly be of service to as many people as possible.
If you haven’t yet had an introductory session with me, now is the time! You will gain some clarity on your goals and the challenges that you face in achieving them.
It’s totally free to book your session– no catch, no strings attached. I’ll tell you more about how to work with me moving forward if you are curious about that, but at the very least, you should jump on the free session.
Dianefoy.com/booking
My asking for help:
I’m asking you to help me meet my challenge. Can you think of 2-3 other musicians or actors who want to attract more fans, media, and industry attention but lack a strategic plan? And if you can, I am asking if you could share this episode with them.
My challenge kicks off March 1st. Thank you so much for your help and I hope to see you on zoom soon.

Hello and welcome to episode 61 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Ever hear of the 5 W’s and 1 H? People often ask me how…. How is my pr and marketing coaching for musicians and actors different from other coaching or training out there? And it's a great question.
At the core, I believe in exploring the 5 W’s before we get to the H. This means my clients explore:
WHAT they really want and what they have to offer (recordings, live performances, acting for film/tv, merchandise)
WHO they truly are and who is most likely to appreciate their talents and what they offer
WHEN will they share their talents and offerings
WHERE will they share their talents and offerings
& WHY they want it, our why motivation is what drives us to keep going no matter what obstacles come our way
Only then can we be successful with the HOW of marketing, social media, and publicity.
I truly believe that how I approach helping musicians and actors attract fans, media and industry authentically is what gets the results they desire.
If you want to learn more I have a free resource called How to Attract Fans, Media, and industry for musicians and actors. The 6C Phase Roadmap to Book Gigs & Make Money that you can download at dianefoy.com/freebie

Hello and welcome to episode 60 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Are you a performer or creative who just wants to feel your best on-the- daily? Yeah, me too. Great minds think alike!
As actors, musicians and creatives, we want to make an impact on the world around us. That means bringing the best of ourselves to everything we do. And we often miss the fundamental link between performing our best and feeling our best.
It is just a hard fact of the entertainment industry that our energy, our confidence, and the way we look (whatever amazing way that is ;) are huge parts of booking any job. And how you are taking care of your instrument is the biggest contributing factor in your appearance, your energy, and your mood. Your instrument is the only thing you truly have control over in this business!
Today’s guest is my friend Moniqua Plante, who is an actor most known for her guest-starring season-long arc on ABC's Nashville, and recurring guest-starring roles on shows like Drop Dead Diva, Banshee, and Southland.
Moniqua is also a Certified Health + Confidence Coach for Actors and Creatives, and she truly believes that our health and wellness directly affects everything else we do in life—especially as creative beings.
We had a wonderful conversation about her acting career, how experiences in the industry lead her to take control of her health and how she helps creatives feel good in their bodies no matter what size they are.
Be sure to click the links in the show notes to grab the amazing free gifts she has for you including the Feel Good in Your Body Book and I highly recommend that you take her up on her offer of a free coaching session for our listeners.

Do you choose a word or slogan each year? I’ve chosen “Breakthrough” as my word for 2021.
If you ever feel like your progress suddenly just slams into a brick wall, I promise you, I’ve been there! In fact, the harder I work the more frustrating it becomes when I still don’t feel there yet, wherever there is.
But I want to tell you that you only hit walls when you’re moving out of your comfort zone. And if you’re hitting walls, you’re still going.
If you’re committed to breaking through, be sure to download the free resource How To Attract Fans, Media, & Industry for Musicians and Actors. The 6C Phase Roadmap to Book Gigs & Make Money at http://singdanceactthrive.com/freebie
Elisa Di Napoli is the best-selling author of the book, online course, and podcast Dare to Be Seen which helps artists command the stage, magnify their presence, and defeat stage nerves so they can share their gifts with their audience and shine their light on the world.

Hello and welcome to episode 58 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
How is everyone doing with the ending of 2020? For me, I’m trying to work on my mindset for the changes I want to make in 2021 and all that I want to accomplish.
I’ve hit a point in my life that I’m not letting anything stop me from achieving my goals. And by anything I mean myself.
We stop ourselves in so many ways, don’t we? We don’t always acknowledge it as such though. Often the things that we procrastinate on, dismiss as not important, or avoid altogether are the very things we should be facing head-on.
Before we get to the interview with Mel, I share some vulnerabilities I have and am working on with the help of fabulous coaches to inspire you to look at your own issues that may be blocking you from achieving your goals.
If you are an actor, maybe setting yourself up to self-tape auditions is something you are procrastinating on.
I was excited to interview Mel Mack, Casting Director and Founder of Mel Mack Acting Studio in New York City… WOW we had such a great conversation on how the Acting Industry has evolved this year.
You may have had to submit your audition as a self-tape occasionally in the past, but now lit’rally ALL your auditions AND callbacks are being handled remotely via self-tape. Even if you’re not an Actor, I betcha a basket of cute kittens that you’re spending a lot more time on camera, eh?
Having a killer self-tape that looks and sounds professional reflects right back on your personal professionalism, and boy has Mel seen more than her fair share of disappointing self-tape submissions from Actors who she knows are so much better than their self-tape would suggest.
📥 Mel has created a guide for you, and it’s soooo juicy, I am so thrilled to share it with you! Mel's 6-Pillars to Self-Tapes that Don’t Suck Ebook is now available f’free baby! 📥
If you’ve been wondering how to…
💭 Step up your game on camera
💭 Know exactly what you need to invest in
💭 Stop wasting time and energy on materials that don’t reflect your best, profesh you

Hey, remember my guest from episode 49 Broadway Actor Bret Shuford, also known as the Broadway Life Coach. Bret has created this really fun and creative way to add more positivity to your life.
The Actor Mindset Reset is a FREE 14-day video series where Bret shares a daily inspirational video highlighting a different aspect of mindfulness, as it relates to the performing arts. Sprinkled throughout the training are seven unique coloring pages created in collaboration with Coloring Broadway to help release anxiety and solidify that day’s training. Inspiration, Musical Theatre, AND coloring? Does it get any better than that?
Why coloring? Coloring is a non-cognitive, artistic activity- meaning it both calms your mind and frees your creativity. Coloring is known for lowering cortisol levels, calming nerves, and reducing stress. Damn, I’ve got to revisit those coloring pages and do them.
Plus, the act of creating without thinking puts you into the flow state where you are allowing ideas to come and go without forcing them. You become more receptive to the here and now. And regardless of what is happening in our minds as we try so hard to predict the future, the here and now are always beautiful.
It’s no surprise that coloring is a favorite backstage activity on Broadway. Kids, adults, especially swings and standbys! Amidst the energy and sometimes chaos, they feel that urge to free their minds and create, create, create.
The Actor Mindset Reset is not limited to a specific time period. It will begin whatever day you sign up and continue for two weeks. Visit http://singdanceactthrive.com/057 for the link.
Today’s guest is actor, filmmaker, and podcast host Ashley Tabatabai. After growing up in Spain and then attending University in the UK, his focus gravitated towards an acting career. As I’m sure many of you actors can relate, an actor’s life consists of numerous auditions and rejections. Ash wasn’t going to let that stop him so he began to write and produce his own content and went on to premier an award-winning short film at the LA International Short Film Festival.
I wanted listeners to hear about his experiences with creating his own content as an actor and about what he has learned from interviewing casting directors on his podcast The Ash Tab Show.

THE CONFIDENT CREATIVE ACADEMY a Free Virtual Training event that brings the World’s Top Creative Experts and Transformation Leaders together to teach you how to build your self-confidence to move forward with the creative career you know you are meant to have.
Hello and welcome to episode 53 of Sing1 Dance! Act! Thrive!
You know those moments where the world seems to crack open and you never see things the same way again? ⠀
⠀
Mine happened when I discovered coaching as my next calling almost exactly 3 years ago and it restarted my passion for helping musicians and actors succeed by creating new solutions for artists to overcome their challenges. ⠀
⠀
The real key though was my hiring coaches to overcome my own challenges. ⠀I just signed up for another year-long coaching program so bring on 2021 with my 3 coaches!
⠀
It is a huge shift in mindset and motivation to go from semi knowing what you want in life, but having no idea how to achieve it to know exactly what you want in life and have the confidence that you have the resources and coaches that will ensure that you will achieve it. It is no longer a question of “if” it’s “when”.⠀
As you reflect back on the past year, are you happy with your creative career? Do you feel that you are reaching the level of success that you dream of experiencing?
It’s funny how we dedicate so much time, energy, and effort to perfecting our craft, but when it comes to the next steps to get our work out into the world, there doesn’t seem to be a clear path.
The truth is, during our formative years we are taught many valuable skills, but most of us are not taught how to build self-confidence, stay inspired, motivated, and follow through with our goals and dreams.
My guest today, Karen “Cricket” Garratt, is on a mission and her mission is to inspire and guide creatives to share their gifts with the world. This is why she created THE CONFIDENT CREATIVE ACADEMY, a Free Virtual Training event that brings the World’s Top Creative Experts and Transformation Leaders together to teach you how to build your self-confidence to move forward with the creative career you know you are meant to have.
I will be one of those creative experts and will be giving a talk on how to attract fans, media, and industry for musicians and actors. The 6 C phases to cultivate a thriving career in the arts.
Karen is a certified Life Coach and inspirational singer-songwriter based in Sonoma County, California. As a lifelong musician, her passion for personal growth led her to writing and performing songs that inspire and encourage others to follow their dreams. In 2018, she discovered life coaching and found it to be the bridge that connects the message of her music to the fulfillment of dreams.
Now Karen helps artists and creatives gain the confidence, clarity, and motivation they need to create financial abundance with their passion, while living their joyful purpose doing what they love.
Do yourself a favor and visit THE CONFIDENT CREATIVE ACADEMY to get your free scholarship to up-level your confidence and become the confident creative you are meant to be!
Also be sure to join my newly re-named facebook group - Unstoppable Musicians & Actors because I will soon be facing another challenge that has been holding me back by going live on video inside the group to offer tips and tutorials to help you attract fans, media and industry. https://www.facebook.com/groups/unstoppablemusiciansandactors

Hello and welcome to episode 49 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Can I share a secret with you? I can’t do what I do without the guidance of my previous and current coaches and mentors showing me the way. Until a few years ago, I was 100% DIY and that is a respected way of doing things as I’m sure many of you are currently trying to build your career all on your own. However, since I discovered coaching I have seen that life is so much easier when someone with more experience than you in an area that you lack shows you the way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is why I show up for my musician and actor clients. Although I am passionate about arts and entertainment, I really do what I do because it allows me to connect with other creatives on a personal level. I am able to have an impact on their lives by helping them build confidence, grow their audience and achieve goals so that they can build a thriving career in the arts without feeling overwhelmed or doubting themselves.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That is what my coaches do for me and I’m very grateful. I still hustle but now I hustle with a clear plan of action to achieve the life of my dreams. There are a million reasons why I love my job, but this is what really lights me up.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Who is your supporter?
This upcoming month I am offering free coaching sessions to qualified musicians and actors who are driven to succeed but lack a strategic plan. If you want to stop letting fear and a lack of knowledge hold you back, I can guide you with strategies to propel you to the next level. To apply visit dianefoy.com/thrive

Hello and welcome to episode 47 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
What are you waiting for? This season, I’ve found myself longing for the completely booked coaching practice that I had planned for at the beginning of this year and although patience is not my strongest virtue, I keep reminding myself that good things take time and I’m enjoying helping the clients that I do have to build confidence, increase profile and achieve goals so that they can build a thriving career in the arts without feeling overwhelmed to doubting themselves. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The same goes for you: We couldn’t plan for this global pandemic that instantly took away most of your performing and side gig income! This season won’t last forever, and when it comes it will be better than you could have imagined!
What action can you take today that will lay the groundwork for success when this quarantine is over?
Okay, I also get it that you’ve put so much time and effort into your music or acting career. Your mind starts to wander, and you catch yourself comparing yourself to others. You wonder why your career isn’t as big as theirs. "Why don’t I get those opportunities?" STOP!
No matter your niche, your talent and personality are unique to its own. Don’t get distracted. It’s okay to take your career at whatever pace fits your life. Be patient and stay persistent. I’m telling you; you will be amazing!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I will even help you by offering a free coaching session, so if you want to stop letting fear and a lack of knowledge hold you back I can empower you with strategies to propel you to the next level.
To sign up visit Diane Foy.com go to the thrive coaching section and you can apply for an appointment to see If I can help you on get on track to achieve your goals. Let’s set you up to rock 2021.
Now onto today’s show. My favourite story to come out of this pandemic is the Pandemic Pie Project by Bradley Harder. Bradley is a multi-passionate and talented creative entrepreneur who has had careers in animation, fine art, film production, music, restaurants, bars, construction, and many more. I can completely relate to managing multiple careers at once or changing careers often.
During this pandemic, he started to bake pies for his friends and neighbours and before he knew it he was baking pies and giving them away to anyone who wanted one in Toronto. How amazing is that? I’ve tried the blueberry pie and it was fantastic!
Along the way he has been featured on CBC news, Breakfast television and various other media outlets and many people and brands have donated money and supplies so that he can keep this generosity going. And maybe when this pandemic Bradley will open up his own bakery.

Today’s guest is the author of The Enneagram & You: Understand Your Personality Type and How it Can Transform Your Relationships, Gina Gomez. I am fascinated by personality type systems so it was great to learn from an expert on the enneagram. As a relationship coach, Gina shows us how using the wisdom of the enneagram can strengthen your personal, professional and romantic relationships.
The enneagram is an effective personality classification system that describes the characteristics, behaviors, and core values of nine different personality types—enneatypes—each identified by a number. The Enneagram & You helps you identify your personality type so you can discover how to best interact with your family, friends, coworkers, and love interests. You’ll also learn about each type pairing—from Type 1 with Type 1 to a Type 9 with Type 9 and every combination in between—as well as the harmonies and challenges each pairing faces and advice on how to effectively communicate and better understand what each personality type needs to feel fully engaged, known, and valued.
Armed with this knowledge, you’ll begin to anticipate your reactions and responses to the various people in your life. And you’ll also be able to better comprehend their reactions and responses to you. By understanding your own strengths and recognizing areas for growth, you can improve your relationships in ways that might have previously seemed impossible. Applying the wisdom of the enneagram-based personality types can lead to better connections and a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you!
Gina is also the co-host of the Modern Enneagram Podcast and you can find links and a transcript at http://singdanceactthrive.com/043

Hello and welcome to episode 36 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
As we are at the beginning of a new year and a new decade I thought that it was a good time to talk about future visioning. In episode 33, I talked about vision boards with Andrea Hendron who is a mindfulness practitioner, reiki master and life coach so definitely go back and check that out if you missed it.
By taking a moment to really visualize what you want your life to be like in the future you can better determine the steps required to make it happen. 10 years in the future is a good time to think about because it is long enough away that anything is possible.

Hello and welcome to episode 35 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Today’s guest is widely considered one of Toronto’s Hip Hop legends, Solitair’s many contributions have made an indelible impact on the Canadian urban music landscape, and the music industry as a whole.
In 1999, at the age of 23, Solitair made his mainstream musical debut on Choclair’s first major label album, ‘Ice Cold’, producing 4 songs and featured on several others. The album went Gold (50,000 units sold) in less than 30 days. Though he saw great success in his previous releases, Solitair’s breakout came in 2001 when he released two iconic Canadian Hip Hop songs: “Bakardi Slang” by Kardinal Offishall - produced by Solitair with his unique style combining island music sensibilities with Hip Hop’s gritty urban soundscape and ‘Easy to Slip’ by Solitair - a song he wrote as an ode to fallen friends, which continues to be hailed as one of Canada’s greatest Hip Hop songs and received a Juno nomination for Best Rap Recording.
As Solitair came into prominence as a highly sought after producer, he worked on albums by a number of Canadian heavyweights, including: Choclair, Kardinal Offishall, Jully Black, k-os, Maestro Fresh Wes’ and The Rascalz. With Kardinal, he has travelled the world performing as part of his world renowned stage show.
In 2014 Soliair and three other producers partnered up on the recording studio, 4Sound Media. Since taking the reins, he’s been recording, mixing, mentoring, and collaborating with many of Hip Hop's most talented emerging artists, and continues to work on adding more great songs to his musical legacy.
After 20-years in the music industry, Solitair gives back to the community of Toronto by speaking to at-risk youth in high schools and has recently been working with F-You: The Forgiveness Project who are working with young men currently serving time in the Canadian prison system. With the founder of the F-You project, Tara Muldoon, Solitair is working on a podcast and that is how I came to meet this wonderful talent and invited him on the show.

It was so great to hear from Solitair, he is so nice and humble. I am a big fan of our Canadian hip hop pioneers and Kardinal and Maestro are also on my list of artists that I have to get on the show this year. I’ve met Kardinal quite a few times and he is also very nice and humble. Oh and Michee Me, I met her before too…oh maybe this is my new thing. I’ll call out people I want on the show on the show. If anyone has a connection to Questlove, Jimmy Jam or Ice-T hook me up! I have a ton of others but I’ll stick with hip hop for this episode. Oh and I meant to have Doodlebug from Digable Planets on the show since before this podcast even started so I’ll reach out to him again.

Hello and welcome to episode 33 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
I have a special guest for you today. Andrea Hendron is a Life coach, Mindfullness Practioner, Reiki Master, and the Creator of Andrea's Soul Chats. My plan was to do a solo episode talking about future visioning and creating vision boards and as I was preparing I began thinking about my friend Andrea. She took the idea of vision boards and expanded on it to develop intuitive Oracle Board coaching sessions, workshops and retreats. Her approach goes deeper than mine ever will so I knew that I had to invite her on the show to share her experience in this area.
For those who may not know what on earth I am talking about, a vision board is a collage of images, and sometimes quotes or affirmations that represent your future dreams or goals. It became all the rage after the documentary and book The Secret. I did one back then and filled it with everything that I thought I wanted, but no real soul searching was done to figure out if I really wanted those things and I didn’t really know how to set achievable goals to get the things I thought I wanted so my life today is nothing like I pictured and I am thankful. Lol
I’ve come a long way and learned a lot about future visioning and goal setting so I created a vision board last year full of what I actually want and I have goals and action plans in place to achieve it all. One year later, it is still my future vision and I have accomplished many goals that I’m working towards the life I want. Anyways, let’s hear from Andrea and at the end she offers us a beautiful guided meditation. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello and welcome to episode 032 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Today’s guest is Robert Carli, who is one of Canada’s busiest and most in-demand composers for Film & Television. His music has received numerous industry awards and nominations, including 20 Gemini and Canadian Screen Award nominations, 5 Gemini Awards and 3 Canadian Screen Awards. He is the recipient of several SOCAN Awards for domestic television.
He is currently working on his 13th season of Shaftesbury Films’ MURDOCH MYSTERIES (CBC), and his 3rd season of FRANKIE DRAKE (CBC). Recent work includes the critically-acclaimed documentary TOXIC BEAUTY, his 3rd season of WYNONNA EARP, and the NETFLIX mini-series TOKYO TRIALS, while recent dramatic film work includes THE EDUCATION OF WILLIAM BOWMAN and SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD.
I talk to Rob about the process of composing music for film and television and the advice he has for musicians wanting to get into it.
Rob is also the co-author of a new book called The Awesome Music Project Canada: Songs of Hope and Happiness which brings you behind-the-scenes glimpses into the musical lives of a diverse array of Canadians. Singer-songwriter Michael Bublé celebrates the way music cemented his bond with his grandfather, renowned astronaut Chris Hadfield turned to music for comfort through the loss of a close friend and Grammy-award winner Sarah McLachlan used it to escape the torment of high-school bullies.
These and other inspiring tales fill this beautifully illustrated tribute to the songs, musicians, and composers that comfort us, move us, and lift our spirits. Rounding out The Awesome Music Project Canada are descriptions of the neurological research confirming the ways in which music is good for us. It improves our mental, emotional and physical health, wards off loneliness and depression, and even delays dementia. To put it simply: music makes us feel good.
Thanks for listening and if you are enjoying this podcast please share it with your fellow performing artists and entertainment fans. For a transcript visit http://singdanceactthrive.com/032
Today's episode is about why do some performing artists thrive while others spend years struggling to breakthrough. I've worked with hundreds of performing artists and the competitive edge for many has been that they have a clear message of who they are and what they stand for. And they know how to communicate that to connect with people. Talent is not enough. If you think about your favorite musicians, actors, dancers, I'm sure that you love them for more than just their talent. You are attracted to their image or personality, or you connect to the personal stories and experiences that they've shared.
For example, I have been a fan of Janet Jackson for as long as I can remember. I watched her acting on Good Times, Different Strokes and Fame, all before her recording career took off with Control. Even when she was too shy to express herself through words. She told us who she was with every song and performance. She's a strong, independent woman who gives the best “Don't mess with me attitude” in many of her songs and performances.
I admire her for being open about struggling with self-esteem issues, her weight and experiencing depression and domestic abuse. And whenever people started to count her out, she would come back stronger than ever. She gives an incredible acting performance in Why Did I Get Married Too? where she was open about the fact that she was filming that movie. When Michael Jackson died. She said that when she returned to set that she still hadn't really had the complete breakdown about losing her brother. But she brought all of that built up anger and emotion out in that scene. And again, she told us who she was through her art.
And look at her now. In the last few years, she's won every Legend and Icon Award out there, including being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. All while becoming a mother at age 50! And touring the world was sold-out arenas.
Of course, I love listening to her music, watching her sing, dance and act. And I've been known to study and attempt to dance the choreography from “Nasty,” “If,” “All For You,” “Feedback,” “Made For Now” and more. Recently I commissioned an oil painting of her to have on my wall for inspiration. It is a strong beautiful image of her in a simple white t-shirt, sparkling diamond choker necklace and long leather gloves with the word power on them.
That is Janet to me. Strong, beautiful and powerful. I look at it and say, “You're right Janet, I'm going to go kick ass in my T-shirt and Swarovski jewelry. [Okay, I don't have the diamonds yet whatever,] and nothing's gonna stop me.” She gives me strength.
As a performer, I'm sure you desire to have an audience that feels that way about you. But how will you express all of that? How will you express all that you are to attract loyal fans and industry supporters. There are many books, courses, consultants and resources available on the entertainment industry. However, most skip the foundation work of connecting to your true identity and life's purpose. In my 15 years as an entertainment publicist, I saw countless artists and performers struggling to build a career in the arts. I was inspired to become a certified life entrepreneur and creativity coach so that I could walk artists through the process that I knew was the missing link in their plans.
So now, through coaching, I help musicians, actors, and dancers create and grow and authentic personal brand in order to attract loyal fans and industry supporters, without feeling overwhelmed or doubting themselves. If you want to generate bigger opportunities, I can guide you and communicating your skills, values, and personality to propel you to the next level.
I've developed a three-phase 12 step process that I utilize to coach artists and performers to thrive in the arts. I'm going to tell you about the 12 steps and explain the benefits of each and if you're interested in having a free coaching session with me to see if we're a fit to work together, I have an offer for you at the end.
Full details at http://singdanceactthrive.com/031
So to my offer, I have given myself the challenge to give away 30 free coaching sessions in 30 days to be of service to as many artists as possible. It's a chance for you to pick my brain on any questions that you may have. And we'll do a little exploration of what you really want. So if you're interested, visit Diane foy.com/bookingand grab one of the spots.
My challenge ends on December 12. So if you are listening to this at a later date, you can always contact me to be on the waiting list for the next time I have openings.
030 Global Superstar Akon on Releasing 4 Albums at Once & Why Women Should Run the World
Hello and welcome to episode 030 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Today we have global superstar Akon. The American born Senegalese artist has sold over 35 Million albums worldwide, received 5 Grammy Nominations and collaborated with an array of A-list artists from many genres including Lady GaGa, Eminem, Gwen Stefani, Daddy Yankee, Lil’ Wayne, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg and many more.
In addition to having two multi-platinum albums, Akon has had 27 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the first artist to accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.
Akon’s global vision is rooted in music, but has expanded to include renewable energy. His “Lighting Africa” initiative put him at the forefront of the Sustainability Movement- an issue that profoundly affects citizens all over the world.
At the Collision Technology Conference, Akon was on various panels talking about Akoin, the cryptocurrency with a vision to stimulate and innovate, revenue-generating opportunities that support and empower youth entrepreneurship, economic stability, and growth across Africa and the world.
Recently, Akon announced the formation of Akonik Label Group, distributed by BMG. The unprecedented artist-founded label group is comprised of four distinct record labels: Akonda (Afrobeats), Akonik (U.S.), Jamakon (Caribbean) and Ke Lo Ke (Latin America). This is the first time an artist has established a global record label group dedicated to multiple genres.
This explains why he is releasing 4 albums this fall with various genres. The release dates have changed as you will hear him say Aug 30th for all, however, 3 of the albums were just released in October and the 4th is set for December
The audio is from the press conference at Collision. In addition to Akon you will hear the voice of Akoin COO Lynn Liss and President Jon Karas talking about Akoin. I asked Akon why 4 albums at once and you will also hear a question from Sharon Fletcher from Blacks Inspire and then at the public Q&A Akon goes on a wonderful rant about how the youth need to get involved in politics and how women should rule the world. Enjoy.

Hello and welcome to episode 29 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
I am so excited for today’s guest, Canada’s Punk Rock Queen Bif Naked! I have been a fan of hers since her 1996 self-titled debut album and her follow up I Bificus with the hits “Daddy’s Getting Married,” “Spaceman” and “Moment of Weakness.” In 2001 her album Purge produced by Desmond Child had even more hits including “I Love Myself Today,” “Chokin on the Truth” and one of my favourites “Tango Shoes.” The albums and tours continued and in 2011 she released BIF NAKED FOREVER: Acoustic Hits and Other Delights and in 2016she released her autobiography I Bificus.
In the book, she shares her journey from being born in secret to a teenager living in India, the product of a Canadian girl and a British boy. She was rejected by both families, hidden away in a mental hospital and adopted by missionaries and then moved to North America. She began what she recalls with ironic humour as a “charmed life.” Targeted by girl gangs and facing other abusive situations, she escaped this early life by joining a punk rock band and leaving on tour, where she married the drummer and hit a downward spiral that found her on the floor of a Vancouver drug den.
Through it all, her creative personality and unstoppable humour were her weapons of self-defence. Bif showcased her life’s journey in tattoo ink across her body and, with her unique ability to transform her true life stories into song lyrics, she found her voice as a solo artist, started her own record company and at twenty-three years of age became an international recording artist.
Throughout her remarkable career, armed with her singular talent and instantly identifiable look, Bif would captivate the imagination of audiences and media alike, releasing nine albums and twenty-one videos. She embarked on seemingly endless international tours, several feature films and multiple television roles, only to be struck down with breast cancer at the age of 37. Bif would discover her passion for advocacy, as a triumphant survivor and someone who helps others first.
When I started this podcast she was on my wish list of people I wanted on so when I got the opportunity I jumped at it. She now lives in Toronto so her publicist Eric Alper asked if I wanted to go to her house for the interview. Um, yes, yes I would like that very much. Lol. I love her.So of course she was fabulous and we are best friends now so I know that you will enjoy our lovely conversation.

As the audio was taken from the press conference and Q&A at Collision tech conference that happened in Toronto in May, many of the questions are about technology and how it relates to music. I had the opportunity to ask a question at the press conference, however, the rest were from others so I will pop in to let you know what was asked.

Hello and welcome to episode 27 of Sing! Dance! Act! Thrive!
Today we have Broadway and Symphony Star Capathia Jenkins. I love this line from her bio that says “This woman who grappling with two dueling passions each with a strong grip: acting and music, yet she refuses to pick one because they both represent her soul. Capathia approaches a song the same way she approaches a script, like an artist. She looks for the nuances, the secret hidden within the notes or text. She seeks the melody, harmony and rhythm. She asks herself: what am I trying to say? What do I want my audience to experience with me? She wants to take her audience on a journey.
Her Broadway theatre credits include Newsies, The Civil War, The Look of Love, Caroline, Or Change and Martin Short-Fame Becomes Me.
Her Television credits include 30 Rock, the Practice, Law & Order SVU, the Sopranos, Law & Order. She can be seen in the film ‘Musical Chairs’ and heard on the film soundtracks of Nine, Chicago, and Legally Blonde 2.
An active concert artist, she has appeared with orchestras around the world including the Toronto Symphony where she is a featured performer in James Bond: The Music Oct 15th and 16th. Next she performs a tribute to Aretha Franklin with various orchestras across the US.
I hope that you enjoy it, she has a lot of great advice for up and coming performers.

Joe was very generous with his time, shared valuable advice for musicians and told some great stories of some of the talent he has worked with.
During CMW, I sent some artists to different panels and workshops to report back on what they learned and how they will incorporate it into their career. Canadian singer songwriter Tamara Maddalen attended Joe’s Ask Me Anything panel so I will let her tell us what her takeaways were.

I recently attended Collision, North America’s fastest growing tech conference now making Toronto home for the next few years. As media I had the opportunity to be a part of some press conferences and Q&A’s featuring talent such as mega producer Timbaland, global superstar Akon, Christopher Leacock aka Jillionaire from Major Lazer, and actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will all be on upcoming episodes.
They are all involved in various tech companies that you will hear about soon, but I decided to begin with actor comedian Damon Wayans Jr. and his business partner Kristopher Jones because their Special Guest App will interest all you performing artists.
Damon is known for acting roles in shows Happy Endings, New Girl and various movies and as part of the legendary comedy family the Wayans.
Damon was saying that he was frustrated seeing a lot of his performer friends struggling to make a living because the traditional talent booking process is so difficult. He wanted to provide a platform that made it easier for talented people who were underrepresented to find work.
Special Guest is 100% FREE for Talent. You get 100% of your booking rate. They are the world’s largest talent buyer and get paid by bars, restaurants, clubs, private parties, corporations, and other event planners to book talent.
As this was a public Q&A I wasn’t the one asking the questions, however, I will pop in a few times to explain what the question was that was asked. I didn’t want to use anyone’s name or voice without permission so I cut them out except for Sharon Fletcher from Blacks Inspire and and Melissa Rolston from Breaking the Stigma who both received great feedback from Damon, Kris and the audience for their hustle.

Canadian Music Week Review Part 1 with guest artists Angela Saini and Denver Haylee. I share all of my CMW experiences from live shows, awards, panels, and interviews and then pass it onto some artists to report on their CMW experiences and what they learned from the various workshops.
I have such a good fun show for you today with the fabulous Sass Jordan. This episode is really what I hoped all episodes would be like, a fun and casual conversation about life in the arts. It helped that I have known and worked with Sass for many years so I was comfortable. With others, I’m still learning how to build that rapport so it becomes a conversation and less of a question and answer interview.
Anyways for those who do not know Sass Jordan, she is Canada’s Queen of Rock. In her 30 years in the spotlight, she has gotten to work with many of her influences including Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Cheap Trick, Santana, Joe Cocker, Styx, Rodger Hodgson, and countless others. She has won various awards, including Juno and Billboard, and has sold over a million records world-wide.
She also had a short-lived acting career playing Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway hit, Love Janis and as a featured character in the television series Sisters. She tells a hilarious story of how she auditioned for a role on a Die Hard movie and shocked everyone on the set by walking out because she didn’t want to die on screen. And she was one of the judges on Canadian Idol.
Today I wanted to talk to you about core values and beliefs and how taking the time to figure out what yours are can help you achieve your goals.
As a performing artist you may think you want to be world famous, however, your core values and beliefs may say something else entirely. Limiting beliefs may be holding you back or ignoring your values may have you chasing goals that are not aligned with who you really are.
For example to become a world famous musician, you may have to be on the road constantly touring and make next to no money for a long time. If your core values are family and financial stability, that is a clear mismatch. Knowing this in advance will save you a lot of time and energy.
Today's episode is a bit of a lesson so you may want to listen to it when you have the time to take notes and really pay attention and do the work. Or it's definitely an episode you may want to listen to more than once so if you're on the road or traveling, listen, but then come back to it when you're ready to do the work.

With numerous ASCAP, JUNO, SOCAN and Smooth Jazz awards to his credit, Marc Jordan’s work has appeared on some 35 million+ albums. He’s written for and with Diana Ross, Chicago, Kenny Loggins, Bette Midler, Natalie Cole, Olivia Newton-John, Joe Cocker, Bonnie Raitt, Josh Groban, Cher, Rod Stewart — including the #1 hit, “Rhythm of My Heart” and currently for Stewart’s upcoming album — and wife, singer/songwriter Amy Sky.
Marc has just released his first album in six years called Both Sides with a collection of chilled out romantic contemporary jazz arrangements of popular songs by some of his favourite composers, along with previously unreleased original compositions.
We had a lovely conversation about songwriting, the music industry and his other creative outlet of painting.
I was fascinated talking to Marc and could listen to him for hours, however, I kinda ran out of things to ask him. Maybe because I'm not a songwriter but a fan so I would ask what is Olivia Newton-John like? and that's not the show, lol. I’d love to have him on again sometime and maybe I can invite questions from you aspiring songwriters.

My guest today is Juno nominated Canadian Inuk singer-songwriter Kelly Fraser. Originally, from Nunavut, she has attracted a large fan base with her blend of traditional Inuit music and modern pop EDM and hip hop.
We had a fascinating conversation about what it was like growing up in Nunavut where her parents suffered from the colonization of their land. They were forced into residential schools where her mother was abused from 5 years old. The cultural genocide resulted in a lot of trauma for her community and her own father committed suicide when Kelly was only 16 years old.
Through her music and advocacy, Kelly is on a mission to educate Canada and the world on the realities of what happened and what is still happening in her community today.
She shares the Legend of Sedna the Sea Goddess, who was the inspiration for her second album Sedna and tells us about some of the songs on Kelly’s new album called De-colonize. The first single “Rebound Girl” is out next week and the video April 15th.

My guest today is makeup artist Lucky Bromhead who spends a lot of time with the gang from Schitt’s Creek, as the personal makeup artist to Catherine O'Hara and Annie Murphy.
Lucky and I used to work together many years ago at MAC Cosmetics where she was a trainer. She has worked backstage at Toronto Fashion Week, Fashion Cares, the Sundance Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and as head of make up at MTV Canada. Lucky has had the pleasure of working with Bono, Kanye West, Elvis Costello, Cyndi Lauper, Alessia Cara, Daniel Levy and many more.
During our conversation, she gives valuable advice on makeup for actors on auditions and for headshots and for musicians about being authentic. She shares her journey as an entrepreneur in the arts. We have a great discussion about creativity, and following your passions.
Takeaways:
Treat every single person with kindness and respect.
Auditions - Depends on where you are in your career. If you are starting out you want to be a blank slate. You want to show them that you are easy to direct. You can add a little flavour of the character you are going out for but keep it subtle.
Musicians or performers – her advice mirrors mine in that it is important to be authentic with who you are as an artist. Be vocal with the image team about what you want and don’t do anything that you are uncomfortable with.
Building a community, not just with clients but more so with your fellow artists, although they may be your greatest competition they are also your greatest allies.
What freelancing has taught her is that the future being unknown is a gift. The future being unknown can take on any shape and the potential for that is astonishing, terrifying and exhilarating. Freelancing taught her to embrace that.

My guest today is the actor, producer Glenn Scarpelli who is best known for his role in the original One Day At A Time produced by the legendary Norman Lear. He made his Broadway debut at age 10 in Golda with Anne Bancroft followed by another Broadway show, Richard III with Al Pacino. He also played Audrey Hepburn’s son in the film They All Laughed. Glenn shares the valuable lessons he learned from all of the incredible talents he has worked with including how director Martin Scorsese encouraged him to go to New York film school when he became disillusioned with acting. The truth was that Glenn felt disillusioned with the fact that he had to lie about who he was to be an actor because he was gay. It was the 80s and he was a teen idol.
Glenn now lives in Sedona, Arizona where he established the Sedona Now TV Network and creates shows that spotlight all that Sedona has to offer. Recently he returned to acting with a film he produced, Sacred Journeys, which also stars his best friend Mackenzie Phillips.
