We receive resurrection life through faith in Jesus. We participate in resurrection living as we are transformed into His image.
The disciples had various reactions to Jesus’ resurrection. Some of their first responses included disappointment, doubt, and fear—if they stayed in their first reactions, they would have missed joy, amazement, and following Jesus in resurrection living.
Our first responses to God’s presence don’t have to define us. The questions to consider: Am I open to the transformation process? Am I open to God? Am I open to changing my responses to God?

Big Idea: In all four of the Gospels, we read a clear command of Jesus to, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation”.
The action word, “go” is in the Bible about 1400 times, but today we’ll focus on seven times when God-followers were given the command to go, each with a slightly variant circumstance.

We live in a season of great despair and hopelessness. Most of our younger generation live in fear that the world, as we know it, will not last their lifetime. Hopelessness is one of the chronic diseases of our day. But thankfully there is hope for you and me in the resurrection of Jesus.

Big Idea: We, the Foursquare Gospel Church, believe that the second coming of Jesus Christ is personal and imminent.
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

We are all on a transforming journey from initial awakening to perfect union with God…progressing further on this journey requires progressing further inward.
Everyone who commits to a faith journey with Jesus will move through four stages in his/her life:
1. Awakening
2. Sanctification
3. Consecration
4. Union
Sometimes God calls us to wait patiently and sometimes God calls us to move quickly; both must be led by faith and initiated by Jesus.
In contrast to the simplicity of child-likeness, we tend to get more entangled in an earthly perspective as we become more “successful”, and that will block our path to heaven.

The Kingdom of God belongs to childlike people. Those who are not childlike will not enter the Kingdom of God.
God made males and females different in body and soul, but similar in spirit.
We are different so that we can complement one another, and also so that we can challenge and sharpen one another.
Life comes with constant changes and challenges, and how we respond determines the course of our life.
We are children of promise, created to live in a promised land…but sometimes we get stuck in our problems.
God has good plans for our marriages. The devil has devious plans. Whom we listen to is up to each of us.
Although our Christian lives may be difficult, it will be worth it all when we move through the veil and see Jesus.

“And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
Failure never feels good, but it can be a good teacher to prepare us for the work God has for us.
God has given to each of his children an assignment. And he has also give us weapons with which we can take the territory assigned to us. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”Genesis 1:28 ESV
Northside Church has completed six, seven-year seasons, and is entering our seventh season. What is God saying to each of us in this new season? It’s time for a fruit tree inspection.
“Blessed is the man (Church) who trusts in the Lord,
Whose trust is the Lord.
He (she) is like a tree planted by water,
That sends out its roots by the stream,
And does not fear when heat comes,
For its leaves remain green,
And is not anxious in the year of drought,
For it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Equipped Believers understand the manner of their calling, the ministry of their calling and the maturity of their calling…are you equipped?
Big Idea: One of the Seven Questions that everyone of us, including moms, asks sometime in our lives is, “Does anyone love me” or “Does anyone see me” or “Does anyone care about me?” The answer is that God sees me, God loves me and God cares about me.
Scripture: Hagar, “Immigrant” was an Egyptian run-away, who became a servant of Sarah. She felt invisible, unloved, used and not valued as a person. She became a mom, and was abused by her mistress, but God saw her, cared about her, and gave her purpose.
What is true religion? What do we have to do to please God and to be accepted by God? "My son, be attentive to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; Keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." Proverbs 4:20-23 ESV
God uses the storms of life to bring correction and to strengthen our faith. We need storms as well as sunshine in order to mature.
Looking at the various references to storms in the Bible helps us understand the journey we are on while here on earth. We are in a life-long school preparing for our ultimate destiny of eternal partnership with God.
We do not have the right to question the way that God disciples us.
We are all sheep without a shepherd and followers without food, but we come to the Good Shepherd and the Bread of Life and He satisfies our soul.
The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest awhile." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they ran there on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. Mark 6:30-34 ESV
“Satan has a tactic he uses against us regularly, and it is effective. He states the trap of offense “imprisons countless Christians, severs relationships, and widens existing breaches between us.” The devil is cunning and crafty. He thrives in deception; he is the master of treachery.” John Bevere, The Bait of Satan.
Big Idea: Jesus loves me.
The Resurrection of Jesus is the most important truth to always remember in our Christian journey.
- God has broken the curse of death and separation that our sin brought upon our world
- If Jesus was raised from death to life, we have hope that we too will be raised to eternal life.
- The resurrection gives us hope of meaning in the greatest of tragedies.
- The resurrection gives hope that Jesus rules in all of life for eternity. He is a living Saviour.
- God’s power that raised Jesus from the dead, is also in us. We are conquerors in him.
Big Idea: God came to earth, as a man, to bring peace. Peace between us and God, between ourselves and us, between others and ourselves, as well as between ourselves and the earth.
Sin separated us from God and destroyed peace:
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. … The way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked; no one who treads on them knows peace. Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we hope for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom. We grope for the wall like the blind; we grope like those who have no eyes. Isaiah 59:1,8-10a ESV
Big Idea: You are a part of an ancient community, chosen by God, blessed by God and called by God to be a disciple of blessing.

Discipleship is not just a discipline, it is a covenant relationship, established 4,000 years ago

God created a national community with Israel, and He extends this covenant to those that believe in Jesus

We are meant to be a source of blessing to everyone we meet
Big Idea: Discipleship is the lifelong process of being shaped by God. Most people don’t realize that discipleship is also the result of being shaped by the people you surround yourself with.
We are SHAPED PEOPLE: Shaped by our family, our upbringing, our culture, our schooling, our friends, our workplace and our church. But more than that, we are shaped by God’s hands and we have distinct roles as disciples of Jesus
Big Idea: In the two stories, of Jairus’s daughter being raised from the dead, and of the woman who’d suffered from bleeding for twelve years, who touched Jesus’ robe and was totally healed, we learn some important principles of healing.
Big Idea:These two stories were purposely placed side by side to show that God does not differentiate between the rich and famous, and the poor and forgotten. He loves us all and wants us to live in perfect health.
Scripture:They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. And when he had entered, he said to them,“Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.”And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. Taking her by the hand he said to her,“Talitha cumi,” which means,“Little girl, I say to you, arise.”And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement.And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.Mark 5:38-43 ESV
Big Idea: Jesus taught us to hold nothing on earth higher than the human soul, which he originally made in His image and likeness.
Scripture: As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. *And he did not permit him but said to him,“Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”*And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.Mark 5:18-20 ESV
Big Idea: Although God is not the author of your storm, He is the author of your story
“God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him”Acts 10:38 ESV
Big Idea: God’s hand is central to all improvement and growth. We must do what we can, but without God’s power, everything will ultimately fail.
Scripture: And he said,“The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground. He sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows; he knows not how. The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” And he said,“With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. He did not speak to them without a parable, but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.Mark 4:26-34 ESV
Big Idea:Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

Big Idea: Jesus’ first parable asks the question “How’s your heart?” Whether is hard, rocky, weedy or good depends upon the care that we choose to give it.
Once again Jesus began teaching by the lakeshore. A very large crowd soon gathered around Him, so He got into a boat. Then He sat in the boat while all the people remained on the shore. He taught them by telling many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: “Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed. As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate it. Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they produced no grain. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Then He said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” Later, when Jesus was alone with the twelve disciples and with the others who were gathered around, they asked Him what the parables meant.

Big Idea: There is one unforgivable sin mentioned in the Bible and today we will discuss what it is and how to avoid it.
“And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness but is guilty of an eternal sin”— for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Big Idea: What does it mean to be religious? The dictionary says, “A particular system of faith and worship”, but God says it means to love our neighbour as we love ourselves.
Scripture: One Sabbath he was going through the grain fields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain.And the Pharisees were saying to him,“Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”And he said to them,“Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?”And he said to them,“The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” Mark 2:23-28 ESV
Big Idea: God began to shift the world from our brokenness to the possibility of becoming whole again, with the birth of a baby. He uses the weak to do great things.
Scripture: And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.”Mark 2:22 ESV
But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written,“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”1 Corinthians 1:27-31 ESV
Big Idea: At the center of our relationship with God and others is the most powerful force in the world: LOVE
“How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them?”Mark 2:19 NIV
Big Idea: We see in this story of Jesus eating with Matthew’s friends, our call to be in the real world as a light.
Scripture: He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them. And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him,“Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.And as he reclined at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and his disciples, for there were many who followed him.And the scribes of the Pharisees, when they saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, said to his disciples,“Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”And when Jesus heard it, he said to them,“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”Mark 2:13-17 ESV
Big Idea: As right and wonderful as it is to be healed in our bodies, God’s priority is the healing of our broken souls. Most physical diseases are caused by or exacerbated by dysfunction in our souls.
Scripture: And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the Word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic — I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!” Mark 2:1-12 ESV
Big Idea: Tri-dimensional healing is physical, emotional and spiritual healing through the power of the Holy Spirit
The Power of Touch We were created for connection. Jesus often touches an individual to heal them.
“As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.” Mark 1:29-31 NIV
Big Idea:When Jesus faces an evil power, as surely as light always overcomes darkness, he always wins.
Scripture:And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching.And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit.And he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.”But Jesus rebuked him, saying,“Be silent, and come out of him!”And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying,“What is this? A new teaching with authority! Big Idea: Jesus’ choosing his first disciples teaches us the importance of choosing, training and releasing other believers to be who God intended and who will multiply the work of the Kingdom.
Scripture: Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them,“Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”And immediately they left their nets and followed him.And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets.And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.Mark 1:16-20 ESV

Big Idea:The theme of Jesus’ ministry is always the Kingdom of God. As Jesus begins his preaching a new day is dawning. “The Kingdom of God is at hand!”
Scripture:Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying,“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”Mark 1:14-15 ESV
Big Idea:It is essential that we have a plan for times of temptation and that plan includes understanding our identity and knowing the Word of God.
The Spirit sent Him out into the desert, and He was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended Him.”Mark 1:12 NIV
Big Idea:“Crossing Over” is an ancient and historical story about a chosen nation but it is also a modern and prophetic story that we all find ourselves in.
“Behold my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen, in whom my soul delights; I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry aloud or lift up his voice or make it heard in the street; a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth; and the coastlands wait for his law.” Isaiah 42:1-4 ESV
Big Idea: The Gospel of Mark explains and illustrates the Good News that Jesus is God, and he has come to give us forgiveness, freedom and purpose.
Scripture: The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.As it is written in Isaiah the prophet, “Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way, (Isaiah 40:3-5)the voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord,Make his paths straight,’” (Malachi 3:1)John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.Mark 1:1-4 ESV
Big Idea:Humble gratitude to God for his gifts of love, acceptance, forgiveness and healing opens the door to wholeness in our spirit, soul and body.
Text: As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, He reached the border between Galilee and Samaria.
As He entered a village there, ten lepers stood at a distance, crying out,“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”He looked at them and said,“Go show yourselves to the priests.”And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting,“Praise God!”

Big Idea: Meeting Jesus is life changing! That’s what happened to Mark — his entire life direction and purpose was altered after his encounter with Jesus.
A wealthy young man approached Jesus. As He was setting out on a journey, a man ran up to Him and knelt before Him, and asked Him,“Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”And Jesus said to him,“Why do you call Me good? Our study of Joshua provides a telling illustration of the Principle of the tithe.
The first city that God gave to the children of Israel, after 40 years in the Wilderness, was Jericho. It was a walled city just inside the border of the land which God had promised to Abraham and his family. The plan of attack that God gave to Joshua was as follows.
Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valour. You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus, shall you do for six days. Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, when you hear the sound of the trumpet, then all the people shall shout with a great shout, and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people shall go up, everyone straight before him.” Joshua 6:1-5 ESV
There were several very important lessons to be learned from the Battle of Jericho; one of them was about our income. Normally, in ancient wars, the “booty” was to go to the warriors and their families as their pay, but in this first of ten battles, the “booty”, which was their tithe, was to be set apart wholly for God. All the valuables were “Devoted to destruction”. The Hebrew Word was “Cherem”- something banned; devoted to destruction. If they were to take it for themselves, it would bring ultimate destruction.
Taking the tithe from God sets us up for ultimate loss
But you, keep yourselves from the things (Cherem) devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted them, you take any of the devoted things and make the camp of Israel a thing for destruction and bring trouble upon it. But all silver and gold, and every vessel of bronze and iron, are holy to the Lord; they shall go into the treasury of the Lord.” Joshua 6:18-19 ESV
Sadly, a soldier named Achan,“Trouble”, didn’t believe God meant what he said, and after their attack on Jericho, he secretly stole some clothes, gold and silver, worth about four years’ income. No one knew what he had done, but he had taken what belonged to God.
The “trouble”, that followed, caused Achan and his family their lives. Israel was sorely defeated in their second battle with Ai and lost and 37 men. Joshua was deeply grieved, and didn’t understand what had happened, but God explained to him that Achan had stolen from the tithe, which belonged solely to God.
Main Point:Our love for God is like a flame; it can be extinguished or enhanced based on the way we live.

Big Idea: Although we tend to think our enemy is
the government system, our employer, a family
member or even a disease, in reality our enemy is
the devil and his minions. He is set on destroying
us in any way he can. But we have the upper hand.
The story of the Kingdom, for us, begins in the beginning of time and space, at Creation. First, we meet the Holy Trinity, God the Father, King Jesus, our Creator, and the Holy Spirit.
Big Idea: God created a natural rhythm to life on earth. Because of the Sin Cycle, we usually experience failure and loss in the winter seasons. To help us through the darker seasons and to enjoy the Blessing Cycle. We must maintain an attitude of thanksgiving and generosity.
The language of the Holy Spirit,
referred to as Speaking in Tongues is a genuine
indwelling and outworking of the Holy Spirit in us
and through us.
The story of the Kingdom begins with the
ending in mind, because God always leads us from the
future.
Jesus taught, modeled and commanded the prioritizing of the Kingdom of God. We are called to be partners in King Jesus' eternal Kingdom.
