Denial is a problem in our culture. It starts with you. It starts with me. It starts with each one of us. If we are denying that we have issues, we've just added to the mess. Taking responsibility for our actions and owning our mistakes will bring freedom and progress and may even help others find freedom and motivation to deal with the demons within. Take a listen as I talk about Jocko Podcast 217 and things pertaining to denial.

Identity. It can be an uncomfortable conversation. However, it is one that must occur. Where we place our identity directly impacts our ability to help others. It also affects truth and how we define freedom and even our success. Take ownership of where you are and what you need to do in discovering the problem areas and making the changes necessary. No excuses.

We all have a perspective on life, family, work and so forth. At some point or another in your life, something or someone will provide information that may give you a different perspective on either a person, a place or a situation. Perspective can be a flat, one-dimensional view or it can bring depth and detail as a three-dimensional object can. It's all in the information that you allow to come through, be it something that you realize or something that somebody or something else helps you realize.

This episode is about how our perspective may need some adjustments, some tweaking. As we begin this new year, I want you to be able to see your goals, your challenges, your need for improvement with focus, with 20/20 in 2020.

Think about the last time you were cold and had the chance to cover yourself with a warm blanket. Now recall how you relaxed in that moment. Now think about it in terms of when someone we are caring for is given a warm blanket. How does that make them feel in relation to their condition? Does it change the dynamic in how you are able to care for them? Does it add a layer of trust between you and them to where it decreases the stress of their situation and allows you to do what you do well? On today's episode, I am going to dive into the topic of trust and how a warm blanket is more than just...well...a warm blanket.

We continue from yesterday's episode with flight paramedic Joey Loehner. Joey and I start from where we left off in talking about patient advocacy and how we can improve what we do in advocating. Take a listen and enjoy! Also check out the new Motivated Medic Apparel Shop!

Please remember that TODAY, 11/16/2018, my friend and colleague James Boomhower is telling his story at THIS IS MY BRAVE!

From James:

For those of you that don't know; mental health is my jam. I work hard to advocate for the mental health of civil servants throughout the country and have been very fortunate to have many opportunities to do this. This Friday I will be telling my story again with a fantastic group of individuals all who work to destigmatize mental health issues through storytelling. "This is my Brave" is an awesome non for profit that works hard to advocate for these shows all throughout the country. If you can't attend Friday's show please consider sending a small donation there way if you can. I know it's the holiday season and this is when everyone asks for some cash but you'd be directly helping an amazing program whose message is near and dear to my heart.

Fear comes in different forms. Our responsibility as professionals is to dispel fear through education and reassurance. We need to be advocating for our patients and realizing that what they and their loved ones are going through may in fact shake them their core. We have the ability to bring understanding and trust which will enable better care and provide an atmosphere of trust with those we care for.
