Welcome to the all-Black Women Season running from the 8th of March to the end of May.
It's been a minute, we are glad to be back with season 5, a little emotional because we have been gone for some time.
This season at CHT we will focus on black women, it is important for us to spin a couple of stories on the head.
Season 5 is all about bringing professional women, specifically black women, it is suggested that black women are behind in the corporate world, what we want to do at Corporate Hard Talk is to speak to women who are doing really well in their careers.
Our vision here is to inspire you one podcast episode at a time! Yes, we are aware that there is limited progression experienced by black women in the labor market. The issue is centered around pay, hours, and representation in top jobs.
In this episode, we sit down with Mariam Longe the Author of Vultures to the Rescue. Longe is a strong advocate of environmental conservation and sustainability. Based in Lagos Nigeria, she wears many hats, our virtual sit down was a lengthy one! When not writing/promoting VTTR Mariam runs a healthy lifestyle brand where she supports women to live healthy lives. Also a co-host of one of the popular morning shows (Your View on TVC).
Mariam really wants to get young people involved in the conversations on conservation, to learn more about the book Vultures to the Rescue visit Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Vultures-Rescue-Cleanup-Mariam-Longe/dp/B09P25L86P #SaveVulture
Thank you, Mariam, we love and appreciate your work, you embody the modern African women we used to dream about.

To order click here About Ikoyi Chapman The Ikoyi Chapmans journey started for Mike and Garry Robinson in the late 1960's at The Ikoyi Club in Lagos, Nigeria. Their parents were based in West Africa for over 30 years and during school holidays Mike and Garry would go to The Ikoyi Club to play squash and tennis. After these exertions in the heat and humidity of West Africa, one of the Club barmen would mix the most amazing, refreshing, thirst-quenching drink that was popular with everyone. It had a unique taste like no other drink and to this day they have never tasted anything like it....until now, that is. The Ikoyi Club name for this drink was Chapmans.
In the 1980s and back in the UK, Mike and Garry became professional squash players and they continued to mix and drink Chapmans as both a great thirst-quencher and a great social drink. After their squash years they also discovered that it is a great cocktail mixer, blending particularly well with gin, whisky, rum and Prosecco...truly an all round drink to enjoy.
For many years their dream has been to produce this drink for everyone to enjoy.

This Week’s Episode of Corporate HARD TALK. In this episode, Deborah chats with Kerry North a CSR professional. Deborah states “I met Kerry as a Project Leader of the O2 Think Big an initiative Powered by O2 Telefonica supporting young people with funds for their start-up ideas. We learned on this episode that Kerry is from a STEM background but pursued a career in helping businesses do good through (CSR). Our conversation was very intimate we shared similar experiences of how teachers and the education system would sometimes shut young people down because of their academic strengths. "Talking to Kerry was so fun and real" Deborah
In this episode, Deborah chats with Dele Momodu the CEO and Publisher of Ovation International Magazine. Dele spoke very candidly to us about his background most especially academic strengths in Yoruba and English (literature). He studied at the Obafemi Awolowo University, worked for free as a journalist, built his network, and time away from his home country Nigeria opened an avenue to create a magazine (platform) that celebrates and gives publicity to Africa’s crème de la crème. DCHT listeners, we talk a lot about networking on this platform, our conversation with Dele further explores and truly confirms networking is an art. Deborah states “as a young girl from Nigeria growing up in South East London, Ovation magazine would catch my eyes on the newsstand. Usually at the bottom or at the side of the rack but nevertheless the large glossy magazine would still standout with pictures of glamourous Africans”.
To our awesome listeners around the world thank you, you make doing this worthwhile.

Today we received some analysis on Corporate HARD TALK coverage on Spotify, very impressive in an understatement. According to the statistics we are listened to in 9 countries (US,UK and Canada) we are global !!!!!! What will you be doing to wind down this year? It is very important to take some time out to relax. One way to relax is to mentally switch off, take time off work or even quit your job if you can afford to do so, noting is worth you feeling unhappy during these uncertain times (alright maybe don’t quit) but try and take time out to just relax and absolutely do nothing.

I had a good time chatting to Emmanuelle about her career and passion as an Interior Architect the importance of networking and what we are both looking forward to doing after Covid-19 (Lockdown). There is the C word again, we also discussed Emmanuelle's experience with the disease which has put the world on an indefinite lock down. Enjoy !
In the next coupe of weeks I will be recording real time episode to keep us all busy and entertained during this current time.
I find it very interesting and equally upsetting that majority of the content we consume is coming straight out of America, if you type in how to make money online , I am sure 99% of the search results is US based. There is nothing wrong with that , we have to give our US friends a round of applause for pioneering online contents. However today I come with a little gift which I would like to title “ 10 ways to make quick cash in the UK” or should I name it 10 ways I have made money….. Here we go and do please take them with a pinch of salt (I have made money by doing the following). I elaborate on this on my awesome podcast click here to listen
As we wind down for the year, I am back with my usual conversational episodes talking about my favourite topic of Networking. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts.
Deborah is bac with a spanking new episode and is exploring anxiety about work and career. Have a listen and get involved in the conversations #DeborahCorporateHardTalk @DeborahHardTalk
Deborah is back with her review of the Apprentice week 5 and 6, discussing the wining and losing team plus the controversial debate surrounding the show .
Week 5 and 6 review episode, so on this episode the conversation about racism on The Apprentice is becoming a little more apparent. Why you ask ... well at first I was all buzzing about the fact and visibility that the show has many diversity from ethnic to social.Week 6 Iasha was fired , making her the 5th BAME to be fired in the space of 6 weeks. I am not here to discuss that but it cannot be avoided, this episode saw the team create their own roller coaster . Okay let's talk about it, I personally don't think Alan is racist , maybe he just doesn't feel connected to the candidates (working with people is all about connection, omg you like a corona , I LIKE CORONA) because they may not share the social and cultural values! oh all is this a bull point of view ? I also feel like he picks candidates that he thinks their business will make him more money. shame about Iasha though because she made over 1m when she was project manager ! Is this a reflection of what BAME go though in the working world (discrimination) I am personally in lala land about not getting opportunity because of my ethnicity, I say you better send the lift down so I can get up , if you don't I will fly up there . don't test me ..... This African girl is not for turning (DEFINITELY WILL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT FLYING UP THERE TO GET WHAT IS MINE) I LOVE A GOOD SMACK TALK :Comment your thoughts below and click on my link to listen to my review.
Deborah is back! On this episode we explore how to cope with changes at work, from people change to system change, how do we cope and keep going on with day to day duties. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts.
Week 4 of The apprentice UK , candidates were asked to create electronic bikes and sell it to retailers. You won't believe one of the team won by selling 1.2 million of deals.
Deborah reviews week 3 of The Apprentice UK, the task was to design toys for 6-8 years old and sell it to retailers. For 250k we see grown adults take a trip down memory lane into their childhood , some ideas and delivery was exactly what was ordered, some completely messed up the order (Turtles as a motivational toy). Huh!
Deborah reviews week 2 of The Apprentice UK, the task was to make ice lollies and make a profit. The boardroom was melting , as they say if you can't stand the heat, get out! Have a listen of my thoughts on the candidate and Alan and his mates.
Welcome back to DCHTPodcast , In this episode I am doing a review of Season 17 of The Apprentice UK , why not as it is all about corporate and professional , I love the show . Have a listen and message me your thoughts as well/
Welcome and happy Autumn ! Deborah's Corporate hard talk is BACK! In this episode DA explored what it means to have extra Co-curricular/ Curriculum Activities . Focusing on coaching, public speaking , attending networking events and involvement in generosity cohort.
Have you ever felt so tired , so tired that you feel uninspired? Everything just feels blank and not your cup of tea.
This episode of Deborah's Corporate Hard Talk Deborah shares how she deals with this feeling and horrible state.
In this lastest episode of “DCHTPODCAST, Deborah explores and comments on the recent speech by the entrepreneur /Philanthropist Robert F Smith at Morehouse College Commencement Speech. Word on the street is he cleared over 400 student’s debt please do the maths ! why is this not continuously trending , a question I keep asking myself.. I have decided to listen to his message and comment on it , if you haven’t listened to it , here are the 5 key points/advice he gave the fresh debt free graduands
He said a couple more , head over to my podcast to have a listen! I personally feel Robert did not only relief the students of their debts but he broke the curse of bad stereotyping and re birthed the boys , making them feel brand new , the morehouse graduates, after that speech may have felt like they can rule the world.
In this episode of DCHTPodcast Deborah explore why it is important to push your self to have difficult conversations. What are the difficult conversation , I hear you ask . In this episode has been narrowed down to 3 points (asking for a pay rise, asking for promotions, negotiating) Additionally asking for a change of you work , I believe all the above are difficult conversations to have especially if you don't want to loo forward. Have a listen and let me know your thoughts.
In this episode of DCHTPodcast Deborah talks about feeling sad and less at work. Have you ever been in a situation where your are allowing your job or career define who you are and affecting your self esteem, well it is time to re adjust your mindset and know that you are not your job!
In this episode titled Coping with rejection : Job Application where I talk about how I have coped with rejection believe rejection is an everyday issue in my world, from asking my daughter “can mummy have a bite” and she says “NO!!!!!” (jokes she is still mastering the concept of sharing) Haha really but I am sure this is something we’ve all been through when we apply for jobs. I noticed it happens when you are applying for positions which can put you in a higher position and the ouch rejection is when you are applying for positions you feel overqualified for , and you still get the “Unfortunately” line . Anyway Dchtpodcast should not be mistaken for a professional service, or career coaching but much more relaxed angle when talking about our professional/corporate affair. I am just sharing how I cope , you can go ahead and listen and let me know how you also cope. Until next week goodbye : )
Deborah is back with a spanking new season and episode. This episode of Deborah's Corporate Hard Talk is all about Networking, on the #DCHTPODCAST platform , we believe network is key and it's all about meeting people with a purpose and also realising that when you go around connecting with people, you also have as much to offer.
In this episode of DCHT Deborah is back all by herself. did you miss her ? Well to round off the year we are talking about brexit how to look on the positive angle (don't for one second think this is a time to slow down). Here at DCHT we feel this is the time to have our eyes and ears open for new opportunities. Furthermore let's not let BAD Recruiters pry on us by taking vulnerable candidates on a very sad ride of false hopes, be very vigilant on who you talk to especially about your data as it is gold. Deborah end's the episode encouraging listeners to aim for a result driven year (no mundane to do list ) decide on a vision and align it with actionable list. Additionally 2019 is a year where Deborah thinks we need to unlearn everything in order to find new and developed version of ourselves. Happy New Year DCHT listeners. I LOVE YOU :)
On this episode of DCHT Deborah had a sit down with Olabisi Emenanjo. Talking about work life balance and being mindful of one’s health. Dr Emenanjo also shared with us her career journey so far as ahealth professional. This is the episode for you if you really need to wind down and work smart. From a corporate perspective your body and mind needs to be intact to achieve those goals, yours truly is on this journey it’s only fair to factor that in an episode. Also if you like the episode with @Adebisiifeh on working in pharmaceutical industry you will also find Dr Olabisi Emenanjo’s episode inspiring. Happy New Year
On this episode of DCHT Deborah sits down with Theresa Durrant co-founder of Resource on Demand , Europe’s 1st Salesforce recruitment company. Having been placed in a position by Durrant Deborah feels very appreciative of the opportunity and support. Above all the network “being connected to Theresa has been God sent” always ready to genuinely help and it is so awesome that she has taken her compassion and interest in helping people to the next level as a NLP Master Practitioner (meaning she is skilled to provide both career and business coach). With over 9 years’ experience placing candidates into tech roles Theresa’s insights is worth listening too hope it can inspire you into a new challenging role. Having a sit down with Theresa also opened my eyes to the importance of having someone to help your career, a move that Deborah is looking into to further achieve a career goals, yes career goal ! A lot of us have a job/career but do we have a goal beyond that? A goal that is in line with what makes our hear beat, yes your heart should beat and you should have butterflies towards your job is not only for keeping your head above waters. This is why a career coach is needed, someone to help you connect the dots align your overall purpose to your everyday working life. This episode is for you if you are in that what do I want to do stage in your corporate life, have a listen to the episode and hope inspires you for 2019.
In the latest episode of DCHT Deborah had a sit down with Esther Abodunrin a BA student, Youtuber and professional singer who manages to have unconventional side hustle all while bagging a degree at the university of Leicester. This is the best episode for students who may need a few inspiration in juggling a number of corporate hats.
In this episode Deborah had a sit down with Adebisi Ifeh a biomedical professional with strong academic background in Biomedical Science (BSc) from Kings College. Having grown up with Bisi since primary school , Deborah states "Bisi is my personal Abert Einstein" Deborah's way of acknowledging and appreciating Bisi's academic skills. This is the episode for anyone who wants to get into the pharmaceutical industry Bisi's experience and take can really help the next person while they make their career decision . By being flexible and branching out Bisi found a career and love. :)
On this episode of DCHT Deborah talks to the Co-Founder of Spin Brands (No.73 on the Star Ups.co.uk). I have connected with Max on a number of occasion via email, phone and in person. Max's corporate profile is not one I would say is relateable as he is a serial entrepreneur however his personal story is most definitely relateable . I enjoyed talking to Max because he is so real and very motivational.
In this episode of DCHT Deborah had a candid sit down with Reggie Haynes a filmmaker all round creative entrepreneur based in Houston Texas…. The episodes allows us to speak to someone in the other side of the world to explore both corporate (corporate America) and social issues. Reggie shares with me the reality of working 12hrs shift while working hard on his own individual dream, learning the daily struggles of growing up in America. If you currently in the hump where you don’t know how to juggle day to day work and also building your own individual dream, the episode would be a great fit. It was very interesting talking to Reggie about the challenges; what makes it even more worthwhile is that the outcome is already visible; his web series is available called “The House of Reggie's aka T.H.O.R, yes Reggie talks and definitely put’s his money where his mouth is (my kind of guy). Read a his IMDB HERE : Reggie Haynes is Actor, Writer, Producer, Videographer, Video Editor, and Musician from Houston, Tx. While growing up Reggie Haynes was a very talented football player landing multiple scholarships after high school, but after a minor stint with the Houston Texans Reggie decided to hang up his cleats and focus on video production and music. Reggie told his life story through his music and before you know it many people started taking him seriously. Many people however did not take him seriously with his video and acting skills. This led Reggie to form his own web series titled "The House of Reggie's or T.H.O.R". Reggie felt that the best way to do something right is to do it yourself. The web series features four identical brothers, portrayed by Reggie Haynes, who use their talents of Radio, Music, Comedy, and Super Powers to make the world a better place. Reggie has built his own brand and has found himself turning down multiple acting roles seeing that he is focused on his franchise.
In this episode of DCHT Deborah had a candid sit down with DR Didar Sohia a Security Consultant and all round tech enthusiast. In the episode we had a lovely chat about his diverse career and academic background in the UK and US. This one in my opinion is great episode to listen check out, especially if you are into challenging status quo and evolving academically and in the working world. The strongest take home from Didar is his wealth of knowledge in the tech industry, turning down studying at Oxford University, gaining scholarships to study in the US and changing his course form Architecture to Electrical and Computer Engineering. Didar’s interest is also in getting minorities and women into tech and really advices that communication is key to help you get from A to B and on how to navigate your way in a conversation where you will command lucrative actions. On DCHT Didar advocates and encourages listeners to invest in self learning, using YouTube to get the basics and to learn, that you don’t need certain traditional skills that may deter you to take the leap into tech. It is about pushing yourself and learn, learn even if means allocating 1hr a day on learning about a specific topic. Didar suggests that attending university in Nashville to study (academic as a whole) aided him to be much more confident and developed his social skills.
