Central to the faith of believers is the cross of Jesus Christ. That common faith is the core and basis for the relationship each individual believer has with Jesus Christ and with other believers. When the cross of Jesus Christ is set aside or diminished in priority or compromised in any way then divisions come within the church as the core of the bond of unity is broken. -External pressures from the culture and worldly views of believers being impacted by the culture are a constant danger to the church and channel through which the devil works to breakdown and break apart the body of Christ. That external pressure includes the belief that the -word of the Cross is foolishness- driving the antagonism.-The schemes of the devil haven't changed in the hundreds of years since Paul wrote to the Corinthians so today believers too are exhorted to remember. Remember who they were and that it took the supernatural work of God through the Word of God to make the good news of salvation's truth personally believed and applied by the Spirit of God.

A real and significant division does exist in the world today and sadly even in the local churches. That division is between those who are saved and those who are yet perishing.-Those who are saved, called out by God in local assemblies are likeminded in the belief that the word of the Cross is and expression of and message from the God of all wisdom. That belief centers in the person and work of Jesus Christ and the teaching recorded in the New Testament as the foundation and guidelines for His Church. The power of God for salvation continues to be available and offered to the perishing as it continues to be the hearing and response of believing in the heart that saves sinners and provides new life and new power to live out the new relationship with God.

Divisions in the church were a result of people in the church showing their loyalty for particular leaders and teachers and in doing so considering one better than the other. Loyalties were such that there groups instead of a oneness of this local church in their likeminded faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. Quarrels and conflicts not only weaken the ministry of the local church but may then also serve to compromise and distract from the witness, proclamation, and living out of the Gospel.

Ultimately all human authorities the believer lives under are in their position under God's sovereign authority. From the home to the work place there is order and different positions with varying responsibilities. Those in authority in whatever capacity are to be served and obeyed as their authority is exercised. God's word gives the principles for those in authority to be lead by and for those who are under that human authority to serve and obey accordingly. If the commands to obey require disobedience to God's commands then it is the Lord who is to be obeyed and relied upon for how to handle the situation that may develop as a result. The life and testimony of the believer is to be one of consistently living for the Lord and according to His word while trusting Him and HIs ultimate control.

Each individual in the home has responsibilities to others for which they are accountable. Accountability is individual and not conditioned by the treatment of the others in the particular relationships. For believers in those relationships, they are to be living under the control of the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God. In regard to relationships within the family, children are to be obedient to their parents. Responsibility for training and discipline in the home is shared by both parents, mother and father with the father having the final and ultimate responsibility to provide the leadership and oversight of his family in the home. Children are responsible to honor their parents due to their position even in situations where parents are failing to carry out God's standards. One sin never excuses another sin before the Lord and obedience by any and all is ultimately to the Lord to be pleasing to Him or it is disobedience to Him when sin is occurring. The Proverbs provide practical instruction for both parents and children concerning what is the wise and God-pleasing way to speak and way to behave.

-Therefore walk- is a foundational command given to believers with detailed instructions being give as to why that is so important and how it is to be done. By way of explanation the contrast is drawn between the life and lifestyle of the unbeliever with that of the believer. The unbeliever's life is one that is unwise in choices, foolish, and will be under the influence of the world and-or worldly things. The believer's life will be characterized by being wise, careful, and under the influence of the Holy Spirit. The unbeliever is driven to please and satisfy self for self-determined reasons while the believer has the ambition to be pleasing to God and in so doing finds lasting and full satisfaction. The word of God and the Spirit of God are provisions the believer has to pursue that higher ambition and must do so mindful of the nature of the world now lived in. The believer is to be living under the influence of the Holy Spirit, separating from the deeds, ways, and patterns of the old life and the ambitions of life driven by sin, self, and the world. New definitions of old words can deceptively cause confusion and misunderstanding of what was meant by God in revealing truth to His chosen writers of the scriptures. -The nature and purpose of the church being explained by the apostle Paul in this letter as a 'mystery' is one current attempt. The church while not new in God's plan was new in it being revealed by God as would manifest His grace in the salvation of Gentiles and Jews called out and together through faith in Jesus Christ by the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The Church, since Pentecost, has been the focal point of God's salvation in the world today. Gentiles and Jews who become recipients of His salvation are joined together to form the Church. New in God's revelation but not new in God's plan. Being previously unrevealed until God's chosen time, it was in that sense, a mystery. Today as God's grace is on display in the salvation of individuals there are not distinctions between race, gender, social class or other worldly status. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and for all who have sinned God has provided a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. By faith in Him alone the sinner is given the free gift of eternal life.

The letter to the Ephesians is focused on the uniqueness of the Church in being a new group of people called out by God. God's work of salvation today is focused on Gentiles while some Jews are being saved, nationally and the majority are in unbelief today. Racial identity is not a distinction in the Church that is a matter of significance today. The fact of the matter is that all people have sinned and Jesus Christ has died for the sin of all people so that any of the all who will confess their sin and believe in Him are saved and become members of the Church. -What is characteristic of the universal church is to be true of each individual local church as the manifestation of the Church in the world today. The scriptures reveal that to be the rapture of the Church to be followed by the time of the great Tribulation. As the time nears for which only God knows the day and hour the rebellion against Him builds. The scriptures tell us that God has restrained evil with human government since the time after the great flood of Noah's day. With judgment forthcoming God removes the restraints He has imposed through human means and sin becomes all the more open, shameless, violent, and prideful exposing the depravity of the heart of man. The heightening of evil and overt wickedness is a ripening for judgment as God turns man over to destruction by his own choices and pursuit of sin. The heart of man being exposed proves once again the truthfulness of God's word as He has diagnosed the fatal heart disease of man as being deceitful and desperately wicked.

From spiritually dead to eternally alive is the potential change in status, course of life, and destiny thereafter provided by God for sinners. All humanity being descendants of Adam mean every single person is a sinner and every single person is offered God's gift of salvation. Every single person receives the gift by faith in Jesus Christ. Faith in Him alone because of who He is and what He has done as through Him God has done for the spiritually dead what they were helpless and hopeless to do for themselves. In receiving the gift by faith there is the new relationship with God to live in and the new life He gives as the Master with HIs perfect skills, power, and plans makes the old a new masterpiece. In summing up, God is the source of the new life, he means is grace, the response is faith, and the result is the works done in living the new life.

In his closing comments the apostle Paul emphasized strongly the need the church had and continues to have to be firmly established on the truth of God's Word and hold that position. God's power works through HIs Word. Compromise or diluting the Word with worldly ideas, philosophies, and trendy ways of comfortably doing ministry in a hostile world renders the Word and work powerless, pointless, and missing the purpose. The admonition and instruction to the Church is likewise applicable to each individual believer in the Church.-This message is followed by a brief discussion regarding the question of the death of babies and those with mental disabilities and their eternal destiny.

What and who every person is or was is presented against the backdrop of the salvation God has provided, how, and why.-Being dead in sin speaks the fact of being separated from God and unresponsive to God. Spiritually dead the the spiritual condition every person is born with while being physically alive. As described by the inspired word of God this deadness is not passive nor inactive and is in fact quite responsive the indwelling sin nature, the power of sin, and the devil. Being so is to be living under the wrath of God with HIs judgment forthcoming. Unrealized by most is that there is a measure of choice how to sin and what to indulge in but there is no control or choices concerning the consequences which are under God's control. -But God is the clarion call of man's only hope being helpless and unable to save himself.

Paul's pattern in his relationship with other believers was to pray for them and to let them know not only that he was but what he prayed for them for as well as what he thanked the Lord for because of them. In doing so he let them know they may have been out of sight but they were not out of his mind. He revealed that while he was in this situation in a difficult circumstance, in prison, he was not dwelling on himself and his troubles but on the Lord and the needs of other believers. In his prayer he also revealed that he prayed for what were his greatest concerns for them. Those concerns and needs centered on their spiritual needs, not their physical. Spiritual growth and maturity by growing in their knowledge of God's word and in knowing God by living by faith in the ongoing relationship with Him increasingly realizing the greatness of who God is and what He has for His people. With such a pattern every believer will do well in putting such petitions and perspective into practice for personal prayer for the time at hand.

Paul is a good reminder of making plans to be responsible with the time for ministry while recognizing the Lord controls the timing, circumstances, and outcome. As became evident, Paul had a driving passion to take the gospel to areas where it had not been heard before. Obviously going to new areas was not his only concern as when he got 'parked' in prison he wrote letters to instruct, warn, and encourage believers in churches. Such believers continue to benefit from as he wrote under the inspiration of the Spirit while his imprisonments were a part of God's plan for his ministry as well.-This message is followed by a commentary on contemporary issues within the evangelical church and seminaries in regard to the authority of Scripture.

God is universally sovereign as well as sovereign over every individual and their personal salvation. As great as the benefit of salvation is to mankind the ultimate reason for it is the resulting praise to God and His pleasure in that salvation. God's choice of who was to be saved was on the basis of HIs will and good pleasure. Before God no individual is more worthy or of benefit to God in their choice. Everyone is a sinner before God who is holy having no personal merit beyond having been created to be in a relationship with God by fact of the original creation design being in His image. God being triune in His being carried out the salvation of those who were chosen to be saved, as He has revealed, before the foundation of the world was laid.

As the local church is gathered together there is to be a unity created by the Spirit with the diversity that individuals will bring. This diversity will have differences in levels of maturity, preferences, personality, and past experiences. Learning to love one another and get along will be an ongoing process requiring all to have an attitude of humility and willingness to make adjustments in the matters that are in regard to personalities and personal ways of doing things. Two practical efforts are necessary for each individual in the local church for the local church to function with the unity of the Spirit. These are discussed as a willingness to deny self for the benefit of others and to accept one another, both of which Christ has done for each one.

As this epistle begins it does so with one long sentence in the original Greek elaborating on God's sovereign work in bringing sinners into a right relationship with Himself. He has revealed that He is one God existing supernaturally as three separate persons all whom had a vital role in the salvation of man. God's choice so save some from the mass of sinful humanity was for His glory with no one deserving of being chosen or having earned His favor. He has no obligation to save any or who to chose as all deserve His punishment being under His wrath. Only by His direct intervention in individual lives by His plan of salvation accomplished by His Son is His holiness, justice, and love without compromise or contradiction.

Personal preferences are going to differ among believers so in the fellowship there must be a sensitivity to the consciences of the weaker, more immature believers to avoid doing what is offensive to their conscience. Concern for the spiritual well-being and spiritual growth of one another is expected by God in the lives of believers in the Church. Preferences, experiences from the past, as well as personal weaknesses as vulnerabilities must be given respect so as to not cause stumbling on the part of the weaker. As believers live in the present while growing and maturing in their faith they bring to the Body of Christ great diversity. Matters of preference, past experiences, personality will continue to allow for differences that collectively make the local church complete. These differences can become a concern when opinions and personal practices become authoritative when enforced as if they were biblical principles and precepts. Personal matters of food, dress, styles, customs and traditions that are not in some way contrary to God's word make for diversity in the unity of the Body around the common faith in Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church. In these personal matters God does not require nor intend everyone to look alike, sound alike, eat alike, and like the same things so then believers should accept one another as God has. The Scriptures stand firm and unchanging as the measure of what is right and what is not for the believers life and conduct.-A brief discussion follows this message concerning altars and the offering of sacrifices in Israel during the Old Testament times.

Paul's greeting begins with the essentials. God's grace and resultant peace are necessary for life and living the new life given as a child of God. The same grace that provides salvation is included in the salvation package as the enabling, empowering means for sanctification. Having peace with God by means of the saving grace then provides for the peace of God as the Holy Spirit is submitted to as the dominating influence upon the believer. Paul then draws attention to the sufficiency of God's grace in providing every spiritual blessing so no believer is lacking anything necessary to live the life of godliness as will be developed as the letter continues.

Crucial for the believer to live godly is to live conscious of the return of Christ at any moment. This gives strength in the trying times and motivation to live pleasing to Him all the time and everywhere. The provision made by the salvation God has provided includes the power and transforming ministry of the Holy Spirit to guide and enable right living in all circumstances. The danger for all believers to be humbly aware of is the potential to become distracted and preoccupied by the issues of ordinary life and be caught off guard and unprepared. Getting drawn into the things of the world, the ways of the world, and the intentions of the world will lead one away from the Lord and often the light of HIs word and into the realm of the darkness of the world. That being a danger for the believer and in effect dims the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world desperately in need of God's light.

The child of God will manifest the love of God to others. This love is generated by the Spirit of God and is described in Scripture as being a love of the will rather than being driven and in response to feelings. This love is shown back toward God by means of obedience to His revealed Word. In His revealed Word there are instructions to, and how to love other people. This makes the believers responsibility to love highly significant, a demonstration of living in submission to the Spirit of God, and unconditioned by what the other person says or does. This love is a testimony to the unbeliever and needful in God's family for harmony, support, and the care each one is to show to all others.

As the apostle Paul met with the elders of the church at Ephesus he was convinced he would not see them again. He gave them instructions concerning their responsibility for leading the church to be and to be doing what God so intended. He told them what they needed to do was model their ministry after his that they had been a part of and observed while during his three years at Ephesus. As he was preparing to face even greater opposition so too would they and would need to face it as he was, with the clarity of God's word, with conviction of its truth, and with courage to stand firm and faithful no matter what. How timely that model and message is for the true church of Jesus Christ in these days as the world is increasingly hostile to Jesus Christ and His followers.

While responsible to pay off debts incurred, the believer is never to consider the responsibility to love, particularly other believers who are also brothers and sisters in God's family. This love is like that shown by Christ in giving His life as the sacrifice for sin. This love is generated by the Holy Spirit rather than by feelings and emotions. This love puts the needs and best interests of the other person before self-interests. This love has no room for pride and selfishness which will corrupt the love generated by the Spirit. A lack of love has at its root a lack of love for God and is a lack of submission to the Spirit - so the problem isn't the other person who is not being loved as should be by God's standards.

The more openly and defiantly sin is practice and promoted the more pressure there is on the believer to not come under the influence and compromise as well as standing firm in the face of hostility and opposition. When the word of God is abandoned so goes the moral anchor that provides stability to a people, nation, or culture. Moral standards will ebb and flow, change and be changed to suit the preferences of those in positions of authority. The believer must know and grow in the knowledge of the word of God, keep it at the forefront of heart and mind, and pursue the life of holiness that is pleasing to God and best as His creature and His child. Sin bring judgment and the consequences are not in the control of the sinner but God who also is the one who has provided the only means of deliverance from the judgment to come and from the power of sin that has a death grip on the life. God's intention in His design and creation of man and then woman is for their distinctions to be recognized, acknowledged, and lived out corresponding to His choice for each person. While man can attempt to alter or change the gender a person is born with they cannot, neither physically nor biblically. Neither denial, disfigurement, nor putting on display the desires of the sin nature can change who and how God made each individual. Each individual, every person born into the human race is as a sinner and the expression and demonstration of that sinfulness is displayed in numerous ways. Any opposition and rebellion against God, His word, and His will is sin and accountability is to God. God created men and women as males and females. Those distinctions are unalterable and those who find the gender they were born with unacceptable do so because of the sin nature they were born with. The ultimate need is God's salvation not a change in the gender they want to live out. Opposition to God is always destructive and a forfeiture of the fullness of life that only God and a relationship with Him provides, besides bringing present and eternal judgment.

When given a biblical principle by God to be obeyed the first response is often to think of the exceptions or exclusions. The fundamental principle underlying all of God's word is that it is His word and it is Him who is being obeyed in living out the commanded principles. This brings clarity to the application in each circumstance through all the times of the church through the present day. While He says He puts people in positions of authority and those will include unbelievers at all levels, He has not abdicated His ultimate authority. Government was established by God, after the flood, for the purpose of their being order among mankind. Government is to function as a servant of God over which He holds final authority and He is the one to whom all those in authority will give an account. Submission to civil government is submission to God's authority which makes the believer responsible to live as a good citizen who will answer to God.

As Paul wrote to the believers in Rome it was in many places and at many times a 'deny or die' world towards Christians. Believers then and now must nonetheless continue to focus on living lives pleasing to God, being conformed to Christ, while keeping in view their citizenship being in heaven. Sovereign civil authorities at all levels have been appointed to their positions by God. Only when their will is to disobey the will of God is it right for the believer to refuse to submit. Subjection to the authorities in government is submission to God who put them in their positions of authority. Keeping this mind will enable the believer to be a good citizen while on the earth while living in anticipation of where citizenship, where home is.

Some of the gifts given to the church were temporary as it was a new spiritual entity to whom God was giving new revelation. The purpose of a spiritual gift determined its duration so a look at the historical record of the first thirty years of the church's history clarifies the use of those gifts which were temporary. Gifts to give new revelation were given by God as were sign gifts to validate and confirm the new revelation and those who were the ministry of those through whom God was giving that revelation. Such was the gift of tongues as scripture defines it as being able to speak a foreign language that was unlearned and previously unknown to the speaker. It was the communication of words understandable and identifiable to those who knew the human language. The first redemptive covenant in Scripture is the Abrahamic Covenant found in Genesis 12 and then repeated numerous times to Abraham, his son Isaac, and his son Jacob, as the line of promise chosen by God. Later revelation given by God adds clarity and details to prior revelation but never changes the prior revelation. -In this section the wild olive branches are descriptive of the Gentiles while the nation of Israel is described as being broken off for their unbelief with the Gentiles being brought in alongside individual believing Jews. The root describes the Abrahamic Covenant and the life comes by faith through the promises in that root, the Covenant. A thorough discussion of the Old Testament background clarifies the points the apostle Paul is making in this section of the letter to the Romans.

The manner of speech and the content of their words expose the ungodly and their true nature. The manner of speech and content of the words likewise should reveal the contrast and godliness of believers. Grumbling, complaining, discontentment are sins of the tongue often tolerated and yet have the potential for great destruction and harm to anyone exposed including believers. Even more serious is the expression of unbelief, dissatisfaction, and rebellion against God whom ultimately the grumbling is against. Failure to speak the truth and speak truthfully will also characterize the unbeliever as lying has been a sin from the beginning of rebellion by man clear back to the garden. Telling reminders of the responsibility believers have concerning their speech, both in what is said and what is not said.

The distinction between the nation of Israel and the Church is clearly maintained in the Scripture from the calling of the man Abraham through the return of Jesus Christ at His second coming. A review of the Abrahamic covenant, identified by the apostle Paul in writing to the Romans as the rich root of the olive tree, reveals it to be an unconditional and unchangeable covenant made by God who knows the end from the beginning and is able to make and keep eternal promises.

False teachers serve the devil well as he sends them into the church under the guise of being believers while inwardly serving self and their master the devil. Their motives, their conduct, their handling of God's word will all be revealed over time. The danger is the following of those in the church who listen and are led away from truth into the quagmire of lies and false promises. Their will be repercussions for the individuals and the church corporately increasingly as they are tolerated rather than called out and exposed for who they are. Calling them to repentance instead of giving them a platform to promote their lies is the necessary response needed by the church. Toleration only furthers the deceptions and allows the schemes of the devil a measure of success for which the church will suffer and be responsible for.

Basic truths to be known about the world today come from the Scriptures wherein God has revealed that there is an ongoing evil power and authority asserting great influence over all of creation. The rebellion of Satan has continued in all realms of creation as he attempts to seat himself on God's throne, in God's place. His efforts extend to the realms of politics, government, economics, social, education, and religion in his conflict with God. Causing division and conflict is the nature of his schemes as the fallout is experienced throughout the world. His deception is effective as only believers who have the truth of God's word and the indwelling Holy Spirit can see through the chaos he stirs up and know what is true, right, and real. A timely and helpful reminder of what is going on in our world behind what scene of what is seen.

God has revealed Himself through His word and in so doing has spoken clearly. God has eternal purposes for the nation of Israel, as a nation, unlike any other nation. They are the physical family of Jesus Christ who through them has the connection back to Adam to thereby be the Savior of the world, the whole human race. God has revealed His plans for Israel and being omniscient, omnipotent, and immutable what He has said is done. He is eternal so timeless and working out all the details of His plans and promises on the timeline of human history. Even the nation of Israel's present rejection of Jesus Christ as their Messiah is used as a part of God's purposes to bring about the salvation of the Gentiles. While individual Jews come to saving faith in their Messiah during this time of the Gentiles, the national salvation is yet future. As God said, Israel has stumbled but not to fall. To deny that God has a future for Israel for their unbelief is to fail to take God at His word as one must the very Gospel of Jesus Christ to be saved. The truth will stand and come out as God brings all creation out from the curse of sin and into that right relationship with Him and restored to perfection. As goes the saying, time will tell the truth.

Apostates who never did believe the Gospel and their influence can corrupt the truth genuine believers have professed and committed their lives to. Corrupted truth has the potential to spread and permeate the lives of individuals as well as the corporate local body of Christ. The lies and deceptions can cause fear, doubt, and confusion that distracts from the ministry and stunts the growth of all so infected. That being the nature of unbelievers posing as believers the church must be alert and realize the unbeliever is in rebellion against God and His enemy. There can be no tolerance, acceptance, or compromise to make these people comfortable and accepted in the church. Life, lifestyle, and, attitudes will serve to expose the nature of the faith professed of one and all.

Fulfillment of the promises God made to Israel will happen when the remnant of surviving Jews all come to believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah. Then all Israel will be saved. The future of the nation, while presently living in unbelief and under God's judgment, is secure because of God being faithful to His character and His word. For now Israel's problem is self-created, their unbelief. There is a divinely appointed day on the timeline of God's plan when all that He has said that is as yet unfulfilled will be and that includes the salvation of the Jews as a nation. For now individual Jews are being saved with the focus of God's salvation plan is on Gentiles. In the coming day of the Lord, the focus will be on Israel's salvation with a few Gentiles. Any and all saved, now and then, as always is by and because of God's grace. All have sinned. All deserve the wages of sin. All saved are by receiving undeserved favor, not by any personal effort or merit. Such is the power of the good news of Jesus Christ.

If life is brief then so to is the suffering that occurs in this life. Remembering that God is eternal and sovereign over all the times, circumstances, and details of life is the truth to bring to mind in response to such times. Biblical counsel learned from the inspired pen of the psalmist as he wrote having experienced the challenge of his trial is timeless in its application for God's people. -In times of suffering we must guard our tongue and remember that first and foremost we need to talk to the Lord. We must remember this life is brief and our hope is in the Lord and His promises. We must recognize His sovereign hand in having caused our suffering and it is likewise only His hand who can remove it. We must seek mercy from Him and trust His perfect will do do what is right and good and best.

When unbelievers come into the church under the guise of being believers, their influence can be very detrimental to the health and growth of the church. Their unbiblical beliefs and practices can easily be accepted and allowed to shape those of believers. Characteristics of such people and the dangers they present are given in scripture to be taken seriously as warnings for believers to be on guard. The compromise, mixing, adjusting, and redefining of the truth of God's word soon diminishes its transforming power and leads people astray or leaves them lost. The changes are often subtle, disguised, and over a long enough time that the drift isn't realized until there is great danger and damage. The church today must be aware and beware of the tendency to drift way from the truth of God's word as it is increasingly at odds with the world the church is in.

The problem for the Jews, the nation of Israel, is their unbelief. The cause of their unbelief is not that they have not heard. Israel's problem is they have heard and refused to believe God and His message of salvation. Today they as a nation remain under the judgment of God in their unbelief. Revelation rejected results in revelation withdrawn and along with that, the opportunities it offers. God's plans, purposes, and work involving the nation of Israel have not changed. The future He has planned for their national salvation will come exactly when He has planned and when He has determined. Today individual Jews are being saved by faith in Jesus as their Messiah and Savior joining in the church, the body of Christ, and becoming the light for their fellow Jews to see whom God calls to save through the good news of the person and work of Jesus the Christ.

When the reality of the consequences of sin gets glossed over or pushed into the background the the salvation God provides loses its significance and importance. In the immediate circumstance sin not dealt with grows worse in power and perversion of the life of the sinner. The unbeliever knows nothing different and will continue along in their life in the darkness making their way along the treacherous path with the dangers not seen for what they are. God has intervened with the Light of the world for those who will come to the light and find deliverance. The angelic realm of God's creation has no provision of salvation for those who rebelled and will join the devil whom they chose to follow in the final destiny of hell.

The spiritual condition of the nation of Israel is being explained and who they fit into God's present work in the world. Old Testament citations confirm God's unchanging plans, works, and word giving explanations and clarity to the progressive revelation in the New Testament. Israel does not need something or someone else to give them further truth, more information, or proof. Faith in God is what is missing as revealed by their unwillingness to believe the word of God they have been given. Confession of sin and recognition of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are the saving response to the word of God from which a life is built upon and submitted to in then following not self-will but the will of God as the authority of Jesus as the God who is Savior and Lord must be believed and lived according to. The problem for Israel is not lack of knowledge but the unwillingness to believe what they know, a fatal problem for many in the professing church today as well.

Truth to be had, known, and believed is God's word. That truth must be front and center of the believer's life. That truth, being what it is and the potential it has to transform, guide, and empower the believer, will be constantly attacked, assaulted, maligned, and corrupted. Unbelief of the truth is rebellion and disobedience against God. Those who live lives in disobedience to the truth while making a claim to be a believer are proving their claim false and as Jude presents, facing God's judgment. He has brought the consequences of sin and rebellion on the disobedient in the past and while being gracious and ready to forgive the repentant, will punish the sin of those who do not.

The nation of Israel, while chosen as a nation by God is under His judgment for their unbelief. As a nation, the Jews are not God's focus today, but individual Jews are being saved by believing in Jesus as their Messiah. God has revealed He has in His plan an appointed time for their national salvation. He has not forsaken or replaced them as a nation and will resume His rescue plan for their salvation and then their occupation of the land He has given as their possession. The means of their salvation will be faith in Jesus Christ while He is the only object of their saving faith. Faith in Him will result in their being forgiven of their sin and credited with righteousness. The perfect righteousness of God which they nor any one else can never attain by keeping the Mosaic Law because no one can keep it perfectly. Christ alone did that demonstrating who He was, is, while authenticating His claim to be Israel's Messiah and the Son of God.

The ministry of God's word by the people of God has always been carried on during difficult times as the world with its politics, societies, cultures, and governing authorities are in turmoil. The ministry centers on the proclamation, teaching, and application of the Word through all the times and changing landscapes of the day as worldviews shift gaining dominance or diminishing in influence. God's truth is eternal, right, and unchanging in what it says and what it means coming from God who is unchanging, perfect, and all-knowing. Those who seek to learn it, live it, and let it out for others to know it will find calm, peace, stability, and wisdom to live God-honoring lives of obedience and service. The need to continue to stand firm, unyielding, and faithful to the Word of God is every believers responsibility and an ongoing necessity.

God's plan for the salvation of the nation of Israel has not changed. God's salvation plans have always included the Gentiles who do not take Israel's place in God's plan. God's promises to Israel are settled and secure based upon His character. God will not and cannot fail to keep His promises and to do what He has said. Not all the details of His plans have been revealed so matters of when and the ways He will accomplish them are to be seen. As He fulfilled many of His prophecies concerning the Servant of the Lord who was Israel's Messiah, literally so too will be those yet to be fulfilled. Some as concerns Israel as a nation, some as concerns the Church as the body of Christ, some as concerns the restoration of the earth and heavens.
