The Ridge Roundtable Podcast is a ministry of Austin Ridge Bible Church. Hosts Joey Ruyter, Jeff Moore, and Lorri Winkcompleck tackle topics from everyday life and talk through how the Bible and our theology inform our understanding of the world around us. Life is full of questions, and we don't shy away from them.
Our hope and goal is to invite people to ask hard questions, and to wrestle through them together. We take our faith seriously, but not ourselves. We hope you laugh with us and learn with us, too! At the end of each episode, you will have a better understanding of how to talk about, think about, and live out your faith.
Ridge Roundtable Podcast is available wherever you get your podcasts.
In this episode of the Ridge Roundtable, we wrap up our “Threads” series with the theme of God's kingdom.
We quickly we dive into the rich, sweeping story the Bible tells about the Kingdom of God:
📖 What do we mean by “threads”?
Major themes that begin in Genesis, run through the entire Bible, and culminate in Revelation and show a supernatural continuity across 40 authors and 1,500 years.
👑 What is the Kingdom of God, really?
We break down the classic definition: God’s people, in God’s place, under God’s rule, enjoying God’s presence. And we trace that pattern from creation to the fall, through Abraham, Israel, David, the prophets, into Jesus and the early church.
🔥 Why does Jesus talk about the Kingdom more than anything else?
From his first recorded words, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near”, to his miracles, parables, and resurrection, the Kingdom is the centerpiece of Jesus’ message.
🌍 What does it mean for us today?
We explore the “already and not yet” tension, the role of believers as ambassadors, and why understanding the Kingdom reshapes how we see our purpose, our identity, and our place in God’s story.
Whether you’ve been with us the whole way or you’re joining at the end, this conversation invites you deeper into Scripture, deeper into God’s story, and deeper into what it means to live as citizens of a kingdom that is here… and coming.
This week on Threads we unpack the theme of God's covenants/promises.
From Adam to Noah, Abraham to David, and finally to Jesus, this episode traces the entire biblical story through the lens of God’s promises. What they meant then, what they mean now, and how they all point to one ultimate covenant: grace fulfilled in Christ.
If you’ve ever wondered how the Old and New Testaments connect or how God’s faithfulness weaves through all of history, tune in to this episode.
Subscribe for more deep dives into the threads that tie Scripture together!
Welcome to a special bonus episode of the Ridge Roundtable Podcast!
This conversation picks up where our recent episode, How God Communicates With His People, left off. After that recording we realized there was more to unpack around one specific (and sometimes controversial) phrase: “God told me.”
In this episode, the we dive deep into the tension between God’s sovereignty, the authority of Scripture, and how the Holy Spirit leads believers today.
Topics include:
Is it dangerous to say “God told me”?
How the Holy Spirit still moves and guides us
The difference between revelation and communication
Why semantics matter in how we describe God’s leading
Guardrails for discerning if you’ve truly “heard from God”
What to do when two people both think “God told them” opposite things
And how to stay anchored in Scripture while being sensitive to the Spirit
Listen, reflect, and join the discussion!
Subscribe for more Ridge Roundtable conversations about faith, Scripture, and real life.
In this episode of Threads, we explore one of the most foundational questions in faith: how does God speak to us? From His voice in creation to His direct words to the patriarchs, through the prophets, and ultimately in the person of Jesus Christ, the conversation traces the consistent “thread” of God’s communication from Genesis to Revelation.
Together, they discuss the difference between general and special revelation, what it means that Jesus is the Word made flesh, the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding believers into truth, and how to discern God’s will today through Scripture and community.
If you’ve ever wondered how God reveals Himself, or how to recognize His voice in your own life, this episode offers a thoughtful and deeply biblical perspective.
In this week’s episode of The Ridge Roundtable Podcast, we dive into one of the most foundational and misunderstood truths in the Bible: grace.
What is it, really?
Is it just “unmerited favor”? A New Testament concept? Something God gives only when we deserve it least?
We unpack the thread of grace that runs from Genesis to Revelation, from God’s first pursuit of Adam and Eve in the garden, to His ultimate act of love through Jesus Christ. Along the way, we talk about what it means to grow in grace, how to extend it to others, and why grace isn’t just what saves us, it’s what sustains us.
Watch, reflect, and be reminded that grace is not something we earn. It’s who God is.
In this episode of Threads we dive into one of the biggest biblical themes of all — God’s People. From Adam and Eve to Abraham, Israel, the Church, and ultimately the redeemed from every nation, we trace the thread of how God has always been forming a people for Himself.
The conversation covers:
Why studying “threads” across Scripture strengthens your faith
The difference between biblical theology and systematic theology
The meaning of “continuity vs. discontinuity” in God’s plan
How Abraham’s faith set the pattern for all who would come after
What it means to be God’s people today — chosen, holy, and sent
Key Passages: Genesis 12, Deuteronomy 7:6–8, Romans 9, 1 Peter 2:9–10
Subscribe to Ridge Roundtable on YouTube and follow along as we explore the threads that connect the entire story of Scripture.
In this episode of Threads, the team dives into one of the most profound themes woven throughout the Bible — God’s dwelling place. From the Garden of Eden to the tabernacle, from the temple to the incarnation of Jesus, and finally to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, this conversation explores how God has continually pursued His people and chosen to dwell among them.
If you’ve ever wondered how the story of Scripture fits together or what it truly means that God is with us, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.
Welcome back to the Ridge Roundtable! In this season, we’re pulling on Threads that run from Genesis to Revelation and seeing how the Bible tells one unified story.
This week, we start with the central thread: Jesus.
How does all of Scripture point to Him?
What do we mean by “threads” in the Bible?
Is this an interpretive method, or is it something God has woven into His Word from the very beginning?
We explore how Jesus is present from Genesis 3 to Revelation 5, how biblical theology helps us see the big picture, and why every promise of God finds its “Yes” in Him (2 Corinthians 1:20).
Whether you’re new to studying Scripture or have walked with Jesus for years, this episode will help you see the Bible not just as an instruction manual, but as God’s unified story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration all centered on Jesus.
📖 Key Themes:
Jesus as the thread through all of Scripture
Creation, fall, redemption, restoration
How the Old and New Testaments connect
Practical ways to read the Bible with Christ at the center
Share this episode with a friend and subscribe for more conversations as we continue following the threads of Scripture throughout this season.
Welcome back to the Ridge Roundtable Podcast!
After a long break, we’re kicking off a brand-new season and this one looks a little different. Not only do we have cameras this time (yes, you can now watch as well as listen), but the theme of this new series is called Threads.
In this opening episode, we catch up on life changes: graduations, moves, new jobs, even unexpected hardships and share how God has been shaping us through it all. From personal stories of growth and suffering to reflections on Peter’s transformation in Scripture, we dive into the reality that sanctification is both God’s work and our responsibility.
Most importantly, we introduce Threads, a series exploring the themes that run from Genesis to Revelation: grace, law, the temple, God’s promises, and more. Each week, we’ll trace one of these threads through the Bible and talk about why it matters for our lives today.
Whether you’re listening on YouTube or listening on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, we’re glad you’re here. Join us as we explore the threads woven throughout God’s Word and discover how they connect to our everyday walk with Christ.

We're excited to launch our new series, "I Don't Like That." Have you ever read a passage of Scripture or listened to a sermon on Sunday and thought "I don't like that!"? This week, the crew talks about an increasingly hot topic in the church world, “deconstructionism.” The scriptures show that people have been wrestling with their faith since the beginning of time. However, our goal is to wrestle in ways that refine and strengthen our faith, rather than redefine or deconstruct it.
Over the next several episodes, the crew is tackling some of the cultural issues the Church is currently facing. Today, they set the stage by taking a deep dive into the concept of culture. They talk about what culture is, the complexities of secular vs. Christian culture, and how Christ Followers often engage in these different cultural contexts.
Bonus Episode! In the spirit of Christmas and our season, Setting the Story Straight, the crew takes on The Nativity. As they studied the scriptures and the history around the birth of Jesus, they were blown away by the folklore and tradition we allow to creep into our memory of this story. There are some fun and fascinating discoveries, but ultimately we hope it gets you focused on what is important as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

This statement, while true, tends to be used when we want to skip over the discomfort of a painful situation. On today's episode of the EQUIP Roundtable Podcast, Joey, Jeff and Lorri discuss the idea of Karma and the belief that we all get what's coming to us based on what we've done. While there are threads of truth in this idea, it is ultimately problematic from a biblical perspective because, as recipients of God's free gift of grace, Christ-followers thankfully get what we don't deserve.

On today's episode of the EQUIP Roundtable Podcast, Joey, Jeff and Lorri discusses the phrase, “Don't judge me”. While this idea is widely accepted by the world, it can be confusing for Christ-followers. We see some Scriptures agreeing that we should not judge, while others give us guidelines for when and how we should judge. So what does it mean to judge? And when and how should we do it? The team will discuss these ideas and more on today's show.

On today's episode of the EQUIP Roundtable Podcast, the team discusses the phrase, “Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words”. While its so important for Christ followers to live out what we believe, buying into this idea may cause us to miss out on our God-given responsibility and privilege to share the good news of the gospel with those around us. So listen in as the team talks about why it's so important to both live out the gospel and share the gospel verbally with others.

On today's episode of the EQUIP Roundtable Podcast, the team discusses the phrase, “God won’t give you more than you can handle”. This phrase is often said with good intentions to comfort those who ares suffering. But what we find in Scripture is that God will allow us to face more than we can handle on our own, so that we will walk in greater dependence on Him. So whether you’re currently experiencing a season of hardship, or if life is good, this episode has some great truth about living in daily dependence on the One who holds everything in His hands.
