2024 has been off to a great start so I recruited my best music friends to talk about our favorite releases, so far. We count down notable release from across genres and discuss why they are standouts this year. Artists we cover include Frail Body, Beyoncé, Madi Diaz, Julien Lage, Liquid Mike... and so so so many more. There is overlap, there are far out pick, but all of it came out between January 1st and March 31st in 2024.

Blake Correll is your host, he also has his own band called Broken Left Foot which as of the spring of 2024 if recording its debut record, he is also the one typing this right now.

Jack Tecca is a Chicago-based musician who just released an EP with his multi-hyphenate, 2-piece, genre-bending project, As A Ghost.

Matt Kistler is the patron saint of the Chicago music scene, he also performs in a multitude of projects including Blood Pact Scout, This Page Intentionally Left Blank, Jeff Schaller and the Long Way Home and probably more. Matt also volunteers at CHIRP Radio, Chicago's premier listener-supported independent radio station, 107.1 on your dial and available online at https://chirpradio.org/

Mike (GHOSTBEEF) joins the show to talk about his creative process at his home studio. We talk about the impetuous of the GHOSTBEEF project and the realizations that brought Mike to embracing experimentation in the music he makes. We talk about ambient music and its connotations, as well as some of the personalities that it breed. We also have a lengthy discussion about Wesley Willis and other who have been lumped into the category of Outsider Music. the conversation takes some familiar avenues for LWYL and some not so familiar.

This is the first interview I've conducted at an artists studio and it led to some interesting results. Mainly, Mike and I collaborated on the creation of an original track which you can hear at the end of this episode, or stream wherever you get your music. In this episode you can hear the experimentation that led to the final track as well as hearing mike explain his methods for creating music.

I hope you enjoy!

I am excited to debut the first-ever full band Interview with Cold Gawd. I caught up with the band hours before their showcase at The Belasco in Downtown Los Angeles, California celebrating Dais Records 15 year anniversary. It is exciting to see the growth in the project since my first interview with Matt back in March of 2021. Since signing to Dais Cold Gawd released their sophomore record, played numerous west-coast shows, and played alongside Deftones, Freddie Gibbs and Turnstile at the annual Dios De Los Deftones - All while holding the shoegaze torch high.

Cold Gawd's Sophomore record "Got Get Me The Fuck Out Of Here" has a controversial reputation within the online shoegaze community, namely the r/shoegaze. The band's controversy is not lost on Matt and the band, in some ways they revel in it. Despite detractors GGMTFOOH has found critical acclaim and excitement on sites like Revolver, Cvltnation and New Noise Mag. Matt and his bandmates share a mutual love for shoegaze and their collective vision to be the biggest shoegaze band ever. Cold Gawd's ambitions don't end there... Listen to my interview with Cold Gawd to find out what is next.
