Scott Lobell, a resident of French Settlement, has been very active at the council meetings lately as we've led up to the moratorium and as we've been working through this moratorium.

Scott kindly took me up on my offer to come on the podcast and discuss his thoughts in more detail on what he hopes we achieve as a parish as we move forward.

Councilman John Wascom discusses his views on the current Livingston Parish Moratorium, the possible Livingston Parish News bias, and he makes his 2023 Announcement on what he will be running for.

Cecil Harris helps bring attention to a significant issue that must be attended to during this moratorium period.

Mr. Harris is one of our Elected School Board Members here in Livingston Parish and currently serves as the School Board President.

Mr. Harris brings to the forefront some alarming issues such as teacher shortages, and classroom capacity issues. They are currently bringing these issues to the Livingston Parish Council so they can work together to attempt to sustain the quality of our Livingston Parish Schools.

At this point, I have invited Gerald McMorris, Randy Delatte, and Jeff Ard to come on the podcast and discuss this as we work through establishing better ordinances to protect the future of the Parish in the context of traffic, drainage, and schools.

Campaign For Sheriff Episode #4

Title: It’s Literally a Life-or-Death Situation

Generally, there are two different groups of voters out there, those who don’t want to hear you say anything “bad” or be critical about an incumbent, and those who want you to give them a reason why they should “not” to vote for an incumbent.

Therefore, it is my responsibility to clearly communicate my ideas on how I plan to improve the service that LPSO provides this community to one group. Then, to the other group, I must also be able to clearly communicate failures and shortcomings of the incumbent, while also maintaining a respectful level of professionalism and humility.

Even though there seems to be some division between these two groups of people on how a race should be run, I haven’t yet been able to reconcile the fact that both groups are likely aligned in the fact that our elected officials should be held to a higher standard and should be held accountable. And the higher the office they hold, the more responsibility they have, and therefore it’s our responsibility as citizens to raise the standards and levels of accountability.

Episodes 1 and 2 were about ideas and ways that I plan to make the Sheriff’s Office more effective in the service that they provide to the People of Livingston Parish. I spoke about how we’re going to get better in the context of transparency & communication to the public, how we were going to mitigate mistakes and shortcomings, and how we were going to build better relationships and trust with the public.

Episode 3 was directly about the current Sheriff where I was critical. I was critical in areas that were justified reasons why there needs to be accountability and severe consequences. And hopefully we can all agree that elected officials need to be held accountable when appropriate.

In this Episode, Episode 4, I discuss an extremely important topic that I consider a LIFE-OR-DEATH topic, which has to do with how we are going to make the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office BETTER and more effective in protecting life. I spoke about how we’re going to improve the protection of LIFE for YOU, our citizens, our children, our schools and improve the protection of life for the LPSO Personnel.

Brandon Browning has a conversation with Eddie Kinchen about his thoughts on Trump, Biden, CRT, and the state of race relations here in Livingston Parish.

Eddie is a Veteran (8 Years in Marines), a passionate and committed coach and positive role model for our youth here in the Parish. He's also a successful business owner.

The ultimate mission for Eddie and I is to be an example, to show that we can at times have very difficult conversations and perhaps completely disagree and still build effective and positive relationships.

We also hope to be a tool to bring more unity, and understanding of different perspectives to the Parish which in hopes will bring more effective teamwork for the betterment of the Parish.

This is hopefully the first of many conversations to come.

In an effort to be as transparent as possible, several weeks ago I asked the public to submit some questions to me via email or direct message related to the Sheriff’s race and I received some great questions.

Questions:

Are you running for Sheriff out of retaliation because the Sheriff didn’t give you job?

Short Answer: Absolutely not. I’m running for office for many reasons, but retaliation is not one of them. To be simple, clear, and concise, I believe that I have effective solutions to real problems that will ultimately provide an improved service to The Livingston Parish Community and the LPSO Organization. See this video for a longer more sufficient answer, and episode one and two which I have already released and coming episodes for more details.

If you are elected Sheriff, will you clean house once in place no matter their tenure? We both know from our time at LPSO that there are employees that are just biding their time until retirement. They have stepped on others to get to a position that they have no business being in.

Short Answer: There are obviously names that immediately come to mind. But I think the correct approach to this is to assume that I am wrong about them and go in and gather more information, facts, and opinions before making any final decisions. I also believe that people can and will change under different leadership and influence and they should be given a chance as long as there are no apparent criminal acts or major moral or ethical issues.

My question to you is about your real estate career and podcast. Do you see either as a conflict of interest with being in a public office or do you think people would perceive it that way? What are you plans for real estate and your podcast if elected?

Short Answer: No, I will not be actively serving the public as a realtor. My real estate license will be inactive. Regarding the podcast, absolutely, I will continue to podcast as I see this is an opportunity to provide another avenue to transparency and communication to this Parish.

I’m interested to know what can be done to keep a registered sex offender and a drug dealer that has been arrested multiple times and is on parole off the streets? It seems every time he gets arrested, he just ends up right back on the streets.

Short Answer: In the context of what LPSO will do, we will be providing the DA’s Office stronger cases by means of better reports and stronger evidence. This will be one of the direct rewards of being better practitioners at what we do. We will also be more proactive in improving our communication between the DA’s Office and LPSO so we can make certain that we do everything we can to make sure these offenders are prosecuted sufficiently.

Do you think it’s just a coincidence that the Denny Perkins news came out right after Ard’s reelection? I think that someone helped Ard by holding back until the election was over. In your opinion, is the corruption in our State that deep? Did someone do Ard a favor?

Short Answer: No, I don’t think it was intentionally delayed. If you read the AG’s inditement and pay close attention to the dates of the offenses, it seems to be consistent with the typical process in the context of how long it takes to gather enough evidence, get search warrants and so on.

What in your opinion is the number one crime related issue that needs an immediate plan of action?

Short Answer: Obviously every major issue or crime needs an immediate plan of action and will have a plan of action. But if I were only limited to one thing that we (LPSO) could be phenomenal at in the context of “crushing crime,” it would be crimes against our children.

Being taught to avoid talking about politics and has led to a lack of understanding of politics, and The Livingston Parish Young Republican Chapter is getting in the game.

This is a brief overview on what occurred in the Heath & Welfare Committee hearing on 12/06/2021.

The committee voted against implementing the new rule that the Louisiana Department of Heath is putting forth. The rule involves making the Covid Vaccinations as a "Requirement" for students 16 years old and older.

Unfortunately, the word is the Governor is going to rule against the Committee and the parents and veto this which would make the rule active sometime in the next school year.

The good news is, the LDH is making it very easy for parents to file for an exemption but pay close attention to the verbiage in the exemption. The LDH defines an "Outbreak," as only 2 cases.

A 17 year old is raped by someone impersonating a police officer. Are there ways to possibly tell the difference between a real cop and a fake cop?

I have this conversation with Lt. Tim Henderson (Ret) with Baton Rouge Police Department and we talk about some potential red flags to be looking for.

Below are a few of the points we talk about below.

"Flashing a Badge," is not really a normal practice. If you come in contact with someone identifying themselves as a police officer, in plain clothes, they should expose their badge from around their neck or on their belt and leave it exposed.
If they are in an unmarked unit, and they have activated their lights, if it's only one or two lights, that could be a legitimate red flag as most unmarked units now have MANY lights in the grille of the vehicle.
If you decide to run at any point, it's not likely that a fake cop is going to chase you. But if you decide to do this, obviously you've already seen some red flags and you're expecting you're dealing with someone impersonating a police officer.
A real cop is not going to put their hand over your mouth to get you to stop screaming. They don't want to get bit. Also, if you're screaming, a real cop is not likely to tell you to "Stop Screaming."
If you're in a vehicle and an unmarked unit is attempting to stop you, there is nothing wrong with calling 911 in attempt to verify. Speeding up is obviously not a good idea. You can do things like turning on your flashers on, rolling down your window and using some type of hand signal.
Calling a friend or family member is probably not the best idea if you're suspicious. Call 911, you're not going to get in trouble for calling 911.

In this podcast I discuss what I believe true "Teamwork" should look like vs. the typical L.P. Good Ole Boy System way of operations and thought.

Is there a place for real tactful, logical, respectful critiques and constructive criticisms? Why does it not seem to be "a thing" that's accepted and appreciated by most of our elected officials? Shouldn't it be seen by them as valuable to their growth if they aspire to grow and get better?

In the context of this podcast, what's more beneficial for Livingston Parish if the ultimate goal is to advance and get better? A or B?

A. All fluff and praises about those in power.

B. Make an effort to provide more of a balance by bringing challenges and critiques to our elected officials? And bringing awareness to the people.

Considering my aspirations, what was an easier path for me to take with this podcast? The hard path of providing challenges and critiques to those in power? Or taking easy the path and trying to stroke the egos of those who are in power for future favors and endorsements that my benefit me? I could have taken the easy path, but I would have been being fake to who I really am and fake to you.

I had the choice make. I could have taken the path of what the 99% would have taken. But I felt and still feel like the hard path was the better and right path to take even though there is a price to be paid.

I'm NOT on the team of the good ole boy system. It's the system that I hate, not the people inside the system. It's the mediocrity of the system that the system creates that I am against.

My desire is for Livingston Parish to get better and for us create a culture, a mentality of valuing each others opinions and critiques no matter what.

Do we really a have a culture of a "Good Ole Boy System" in Livingston Parish? If so, how do things play out inside of that?

**Please forgive the fact that I don't say everything perfectly in this podcast. I didn't feel like it was so far off that it deserved me going through the process of re-recording it. My main purpose of this podcast is to point out what I think are real issues that should be dealt with and improved. I think that the system of, "I'll scratch your back and your scratch mine," is so much of the norm that it's perhaps done without thinking twice.

The examples that I use to make my points in this podcast seem to be only directed to one or two particular entities. At least it could and likely will come across that way. Please understand that believe it's a systemic issue and the examples that I share I felt were the best examples to use to make these points. There were more examples that involved other entities, but for the sake of time, I only share a few.

I also recognize that many of you have shared other examples or personal experiences with me that you had that are far better and impactful examples. But I didn't want to bring any other examples in that were not "public" and I didn't want to have to reach out and get permission from anyone to speak about the issues.

To place this in a better context, this is a response to the podcast that McHugh David (The Livingston Parish News) recorded with Councilman Jeff Ard about the situation with the Guerrilla Warfare business.

Yes, this was an emotional one..

This is a recap and “Opinion” of the Council Meeting on June 24, 2021 about the issue with the Parish President’s Office and Guerrilla Warfare Paintball.

The meeting was full of all types of emotions, but it was also very educational in the context of the role of the Council vs. The Parish Administration.

After attending the meeting, my formulated opinion is rather simple. The Business Owner is in violation and could have done a better job. The Parish Admin could have done a better job, and the Council could have done a better job. I think perhaps a resolution was warranted due to some rather uncommon circumstances.

At this time, I don’t agree that an extreme measure of a Cease and Desist should have been issued. I believe that better communication and more proactive education could have and should have prevented it.

But, of course, my opinion is subject to change if I become aware of more facts.

Is there really a better way? Is it time to think outside the box and do things differently in the context of our elections? Is there really a way to save the tax payers money? Is there a way to save the Parish and the State money?

And perhaps more importantly, is there a way to run elections more efficiently and at the same time mitigate campaign "mudslinging" and negativity?

Frank Neelis says "Yes," and the the answer is Louisiana Ranked Choice.

Final Salute Inc., and Veteran Heather Dugas (Ms. Veteran America Semifinalist) are stepping up and fighting for our homeless woman Veterans.

Did you know that the federal government estimates that there are approximately 55,000 homeless woman Veterans in the U.S. and that approximately 70% of them are mothers?

This is very problematic considering that more than 60% of surveyed Grant Per Diem (DPD) programs that serve homeless woman Veterans do not house children.

Upon examining the housing the VA inspector found bedrooms and bathrooms without locks, poorly lit hallways and women house in facilities approved for men only.

Taking all of the aforementioned information and much more into consideration, Heather Dugas has partnered with Final Salute Inc. to help bring awareness and raise money to support these women and children.

Final Salute Inc., is a non-profit who's mission is to provide homeless Veterans and their children with safe suitable housing.

Police Reform. What should it really look like?

Question, how is law enforcement fighting the battle of negative public perception? How are they fighting the battle of negative and unfair media? Are they even engaged in the battle? Are they effectively fighting it, if so how? I talk about that in this podcast.

Another question, what are they doing to pivot to what is happening in today's society? Will they sit back and let big brother dictate what they think "police reform" should be, or will Law Enforcement step up and take the lead and make things happen. It's going to happen one way or the other so let's do it in an effective way rather than an ineffective way which the government will likely implement.

Let's get in the fight and be effective. Here are some below ideas on what I discuss in this podcast.

The battle of public negative public perception and negative/unfair media. How do you fight it? What about hosting continuous shoot don't shoot scenarios with community leaders, media, and the public? I talk about this in this podcast.

Just as importantly, how do you improve the leadership inside your organization and create a decentralized command where everyone leads and leads rightly? That should be every administration's dream because it would make their job much easier, much less stressful and it would mitigate problems. How do you collectively create an organization full of problem solvers, master negotiators, master desolators and those who abide by the utmost highest standards and principles? That may sound like fantasyland but it's really not and we should not adopt the mindset that it's impossible.

How do leverage today's available technologies to help your officers become smarter? To become real experts or better experts? How do you help them optimize their human gnomes? How do you create a continuous or systematic system of continuous education and have the time to do so. You leverage software like trainual or you create your own software where you have an online library of content. You leverage your experts inside your organization to help your organization grow collectively. I discuss this in the podcast.

Are cops systemically racist?

In this episode, I share some real data that suggest that they are far from it.

"GUN CONTROL"

Ike thinks that more gun control is reasonable and that the 2nd Amendment is not absolute.

I say that more gun control is counterproductive and that neither he or anyone else that is walking the face of the planet knows what type of evil tyrannical government is around the corner 10 years from now, 50 years from now, or 200 years from now. And it's selfish for us as a country to continue to be more restrictive on gun laws. We should consider the rights of protection for our future generations.

As I share these thoughts, I would love any feedback, positive or negative.

I personally think all of our elected officials would benefit from consistent opposition in our elections. As a result, I think the parish will collectively benefit from this as well. I fully believe that competition makes you better. It helps keep you honest. It helps keep you "On The Path." The lack of, can create apathy, laziness, and comfort which I think is counterproductive in many aspects.

As we move forward, is it unreasonable for us to expect more from our elected officials here in Livingston Parish? (No this is not an attack, this is just me applying some critical thinking and foresight into how we move forward and get better together)

As we move into a more dangerous time with the attacks on our freedoms, our 2 Amendment, freedoms of speech, etc., should our local elected officials be pivoting or adapting so we can stay 2,3,4 steps ahead of these leftist agendas? If so, what does that look like? Is it possible?

What can we do better now to ensure that our kids and grandkids get to enjoy the same freedoms and enjoy this safe community that we reside in? How can we make it better? How can our elected officials make it better? How can we come together collectively and work to keep Livingston Parish the parish that we love.

In my opinion, the first step is more transparency, more proactive education, and better communication.

In this episode, Livingston Parish Democrat Ike Hawkins and I discuss what's going on in our Country in regards to "Cancel Culture."

Major Matt Perry is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 2008 with a B.A. in Political Science and subsequently commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. From December 2008 to September 2009, he attended the Basic Officer Course and Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, VA.

In October 2009, he was assigned as Platoon Commander, 3d Platoon, Kilo Company, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). In October 2010, Lieutenant Perry was assigned as 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander, Weapons Company, and deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF. Upon redeployment, he attended the Basic Reconnaissance Course, graduating in September 2012.

In October 2012, Captain Perry was assigned as Force Platoon Commander, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion in Okinawa, Japan. In July 2014 Captain Perry was reassigned to Force Company Commander, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion. During this time, he deployed throughout the Pacific Area of Operations in support of Contingency Operations.

In April 2016, Captain Perry was assigned to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina as the Operations Officer. While assigned to 2d Reconnaissance Battalion, Captain Perry was responsible for the preparation of East Coast based Maritime Raid Forces aboard assigned Marine Expeditionary Units.

In August of 2017, Captain Perry was assigned to 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, where he served as an Inspector-Instructor and Site Support Commander aboard Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Major Perry assumed command of Marine Corps Recruiting Station Baton Rouge in April 2020.

Additional military schools Major Perry has attended include: Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and Staff College, Operations and Tactics Instructor Course, and the United States Army Ranger School. He received a Masters of Business Administration from Syracuse University in 2019.

Major Perry has received the following personal awards: Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with combat distinguishing device; with two gold stars in lieu of third award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Major Perry is married to the former Brandi Wright of Houston, Texas and together they have four children

The primary mission of The Arc of Livingston is to help provide vocational, recreational and educational/rehabilitation opportunities for mentally challenged adults. Our vocational program participants work a variety of jobs both on site at The Activity Center as well as at various job locations. While undertaking vocational tasks, our members are accompanied by both supervisors and peer workers. The Activity Center has a wood shop on site, which specializes in the production and sale of survey markers.
Off-site vocational activities include such jobs as grounds maintenance and facility custodial services. All of our vocational members are compensated for their work production. An honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay!Our education/rehabilitation members spend their days at The Activity Center with one another and with our staff, engaging in educational life skills and recreational activities. Quite often, all of our members will go on field trips together, spending time exercising at the fitness center, enjoying music at local churches, and engaging in many other fun and exciting outings. Holiday and birthday celebrations are always a fun time at The Activity Center!
The Arc of Livingston (The Activity Center) was founded in 1961. We are organized under section 501(c)(3) of Title 26 of the United States Code. Located at 10494 Florida Blvd., Walker, LA 70785, The Activity Center exists solely to enrich the lives of mentally challenged adults, who after having aged out of the public school system may have few other alternatives for vocational, educational and recreational opportunities.

HIGHLIGHTS

Teachers attempt to form a committee which was proposed to the board and rejected by the board.
The Central Office and School Board continues to strategically use meeting rules in order suppress public comment.
A Central Office non-board member strategically makes pre-prepared “counter offer,” to the board, which was equivalent to a substitute motion that a board member would make, to form their idea of a committee which WAS NOT on the agenda. This non-agenda item was passed by the board even after hearing from the teachers who clearly articulated that this was NOT what they wanted.

So I’ve had someone that I respect reach out to me and tell me I’m wrong on my last podcast about the principals.

And I may be. But this is the consistent word that’s been relayed to me by people who know much more than I.

And I’m sure it’s “true and false.” It’s not going to be 100% true or false either way because I think it’s a safe bet that some principals may have different opinions and have had different experiences than others. And I said that in the podcast, just in a different way.

There are far too many involved for everyone to have the same opinions and feelings.

And if I’m later proven that I’m wrong, I’ll own it and admit I was wrong.

I’ve strived to be as accurate as possible. So much so that I’ve asked the superintendent to meet with me and I was ignored.

What would happen if we as a community in Livingston Parish came together with a common goal of all striving to get better? If we could create a culture of personal accountability and self reflection? A culture of looking in the mirror and intentionally grading ourselves. A culture of identifying problems in our own lives rather than someone else's. Then, we were to get practical like a sales organization, or a Seal Team and sit down and create a mission, a goal, and an objective to accomplish.

Then we were to sit down and identify the code and the path to follow to and meet that mission, that goal, and that objective. What would happen to us if we became proactive in attacking our problems, and our areas of falling short. What could we become?

Would you agree that type of mindset would benefit your character? Could that attitude and mindset then become infectious to those around you, those who you care about most which in return will benefits everyone collectively?

Ask yourself, what is the opposite of the aforementioned mindset? Mediocrity or worse? Let's not settle for that. Let's get 1% better every day.

Why did the majority of the Denham Springs Council Vote Against the Denham Springs Police Department Receiving a 2% Raise?

A lot of people are still confused on how things will operate once schools open back up here in Livingston Parish. In this interview, I speak with the Assistant Superintendent Jody Purvis and School Board Member, Kellee Hennessy and they help give us some clarity.

What things are we implementing NOW as a community here in Livingston Parish, and in the State of Louisiana to protect our children and grandchildren in the context of their freedoms and safety?

Have you sat back and really taken good and hard look? Actions speak louder than words right? What do you think we are seeing? Is there an argument that there aren't really many actions, only selfish reactions and the majority is staying silent?

So what does "no actions or words" produce? Is there an argument that could be had that we are acting in a very selfish way considering there will be people, i.e., Americans, your children, your grandchildren, your loved ones living on this land long after we are gone? Are we making moves to protect their freedoms or allowing things to happen that will remove their freedoms.

Considering what we are seeing in todays world with a generation that seems to be okay with Socialism, Communism and Marxism, what steps are we taking now to correct that? What are we, the parents and teachers, teaching our children about these topics and issues? What are our school systems teaching them about these things? Are we holding our schools accountable to making sure they educate them in a sufficient manner on these specific things? Are we taking a close look at the curriculums? Are they currently sufficient?

To sum this all up, are we proactively identifying the threats, the problems, the issues and potential coming issues, and working HARD to leave this place better and just as free or more free than when we left it? Or are we being lazy, weak and afraid motivated out of self preservation?

These are the things I ask myself in my own life and I'm not happy with my own answers.
