After 5 years of deep depression, anxiety and PTSD, he learned how to walk on his own. Brian now has a paralympic license and shot put disc and powerlifting. The issue surrounding the Redondo Beach Fire Department and LA County Fire Department is complex. Former City Councilwoman Laura Emdee joins us to break it down and help you understand the finances and repercussions of sending the city's first responders to the county. Join us. Less than 1% of all fire departments in the country receive a Class 1 rating.Based on the report, it appears Redondo residents will pay more to get much less we contract with LA County. The County contract is proposing a reduction of dedicated staff located inside the City. In the proposal some staff will be shared resources with surrounding cities. As the Founder and CEO of the Special Needs Network, Areva Martin was recently joined by Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell and St. John’s Community Health for a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting of the Jacqueline Avant Children & Family Center. What was the inspiration and the journey like to make it all happen? Hundreds of Black and Mexican families were forcibly and illegally evicted by the City of Palm Springs, CA from their privately owned houses in the Section 14 neighborhood in the 1950s and 1960s. Officer Lofstrom from Redondo Beach Police Department joins the show to talk about the recent guns found on campus at Redondo Union High School.
What information can the police department share with the public? What is their relationship with the school district and how does it benefit the community? Kyle breaks it down for us. We also chatted about the drug epidemic in the community.
Mariam Butler, resident and community volunteer, gives an update on things to be aware of at City Council. If you want to advocate for the students at RUHS, tap in for the info. And it was no surprise that Councilman Zein Obagi's guilty verdict and suspension from practicing law did not come up at the meeting.
The California State Bar found Redondo Beach City Councilman Zein Obagi, Jr., culpable of two acts of “moral turpitude” for failing to pay $515,000 to a former client after the settlement of a lawsuit. Judge Manjari Chawla recommended that Obagi’s law license be suspended for two years, and that he completes State Bar ethics education and complies with probation.
Why, you might ask did this not even come up at a city council meeting... It would be a good question to get answered.

After nine years as a probation officer, working in a toxic, racist, hostile environment, Lyreshia Bonds filed a lawsuit in federal court. On Tuesday, November 7th, the Redondo Beach City Council is once again trying to ram through having an appointed vs. elected attorney. Given both Mayor Bill Brand and City Councilman Nils Nehrenheim are soliciting residents for funds to pay their personal legal bills (weird and unsettling), they could theoretically appoint their personal attorney who is owed funds as a favor to reduce their legal debt.
If Redondo were to lose our elected attorney there is a risk we could lose Redondo’s prosecution attorney and we may default to the county’s prosecutor (George Gascon). This would impact Hermosa as well, as they have used our legal services. Manhattan Beach tried to do so but was denied by George Gascon. Finally, it is likely this will cost the city money we don’t have.
The City Council Meeting already promises to be a crazy meeting because Redondo Beach employees are protesting being underpaid. This situation does not make things any better. William, "Dub" Anderson is an author, journalist, and advertising man. His newest book is a controversial bestseller, The Price of Perfect.He was born in Athens GA. He received his degree in Journalism as well as his Masters in Marketing at the University of Georgia. Dub started his writing career at Vogue Magazine and later contributed a political column to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Antoine Miller founded The Sounds of Success Community Marching Band to empower youth between the ages of 5 and 23 through music. Under his leadership, the band has won numerous awards while engaging in competitions throughout the United States. One of its most outstanding achievements is being selected as the only American community marching band to perform during London Band Week in the summer of 2023. To afford each child the opportunity to travel to London, Antoine is raising $500,000 to pay for all the travel expenses. Antoine is a saxophonist who has been playing music and participating in marching bands since middle school. He also had the privilege and honor of being a part of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University's Marching 100 band. Antoine is using the knowledge and experience he gained from being in the Marching 100 to teach over 100 children in Riviera Beach, Florida, about music education and marching band fundamentals.

It's a work that reads like a novel. Hazzard relates how a group of African American visionaries, most of whom had been trapped in menial jobs, saw what health-policy experts did not: Pre-hospital care was scarce, disorganized, and the key to survival for common emergencies like stroke, heart attack, and diabetic crises. The urban healers’ reaction was bold, and effective, and shocked the city’s healthcare system. They doggedly obtained the training that enabled them to bring advanced cardiac life support and other technical care to all in Pittsburgh's Freedom House ambulance project, including the chronically underserved of their own neighborhoods. After their new discipline proved its value in saving lives, organized emergency care, like so many arenas in US medicine, excluded the Black men who invented it and effaced the history of what all Americans owe them, but this riveting page-turner brings these medical heroes long-delayed acclaim. Several generations before the Black Lives Matter movement took hold, there was a bigger, more controversial group fighting for civil rights and equality in America. A new book, When Black Panthers Prowled Amerika, offers a unique look at the Black Panthers Party through the eyes of an author who marched in the south in the 1960s under Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is historical fiction, but features mostly real figures from a tumultuous era, and meditates on race relations that offer insights into today’s society. The book has stirred controversy because the author is not a young Black woman, but rather an older white guy.

More than 50% of South Carolina’s African American college graduates come from one of the state’s seven Historically Black Colleges & Universities. A new program, the South Carolina Institutes of Innovation and Information (SCIII), has just been formed in order to help grow student enrollment at the HBCUs and to foster a classroom-to-job environment with the students, schools, and business community. It may prove to be a model program for other states to copy. Senator Scott and Executive Director Gwynth Nelson join us to discuss:
- How SCIII will provide new opportunities for innovation at the university level for Black students.
- How shortages of skilled workers for key industries, such as nursing and health care, transportation, technology communication, and business, can be met by the SCIII.
- How SCIII will increase the number of Black STEM degree candidates, providing a greater pool of talented workers to lead innovation.

Meet the author of Sins of the System: Trauma, Guns, Tragedy, and the Betrayal of Our Children, making a difference in the lives of gun violence survivors and trauma plagued youth. Regina Griego was born and raised in New Mexico and her Hispanic roots go back four hundred years. She is married with six children in a blended family and has seven grandchildren. Regina, an avid gun violence prevention advocate, lost her brother at the hands of his son. Even so, she fights for young people trapped in the justice system. She talks about the failures of our current system and her healing process.
Regina has mentored many young people as a professor, senior engineer, and leadership coach. She is an active member of organizations that support gun safety and juvenile justice. Regina is a Georgetown-trained coach and a Fellow of the INCOSE, the largest International Systems Engineering Professional Organization.
