The Montgolfier Brothers, Mark Tranmer (GNAC) & Roger Quigley (Swim Two Birds) initially released “Seventeen Stars” on the Salford-based Vespertine label in 1999. Much critical acclaim & appreciation from pop dynamo Alan McGee led to a 2000 re-release on his nascent post-Creation Poptones imprint.

Originally released on the forward-facing & unique Make Mine Music label in 2004, Dusted Blog wrote at that time of The English Cold :
“the album sketches out the sound of the skies”. The work takes inspiration from an imagined wartime pastoral English village life, soundtracked by landing Lancaster bombers after a sky-borne recce.
As Dusted continues:”The album succeeds marvellously in painting some kind of portrait of life in wartime England from a great distance”.
Striking release artwork is by Martin Anderson who worked together as part of v23 alongside Vaughan Oliver, creating iconic design work for 4AD Records.

Following the highly acclaimed recent release on CTR “Perfect Motion”-Jon Savage's Secret History of Second-Wave Psychedelia 1988-93 (A Lauren Laverne BBC 6Music Compilation Album of the Week) comes a limited vinyl version of another previously very well received compilation on CTR. However, this album is cut from a different musical cloth, rooted firmly in the late Seventies/Early Eighties Manchester Post-Punk scene.
