Today you’re going to meet a remarkable woman who Lives Life by Design. My friend Louise Mackenzie the owner of Mackenzie Design Inc. since 1996, creates timeless homes for modern lives.

Louise Mackenzie designed her first home at just 15 years old and has been collecting industry related awards ever since. After leaving a seventeen year position with a prestigious design firm in Toronto to raise a family in her home town of Peterborough, she has definitely achieved success on her own terms.

Along with the homes Louise designed in the most affluent areas of Toronto, you’ll also find Mackenzie Designed homes in cottage country along the shores of Stony, Clear, Balsam and Haliburton Lakes in Ontario Canada and dotted throughout the surrounding countryside properties.

Louise believes self-care is fundamental to doing the best job she can for other people and that communication is the foundation of great relationships. In her words, “it’s best to speak from your heart and be really, really honest.” As scary as pushing yourself out of your comfort zone can be, she’s never allowed fear to keep her from pursuing her dreams.

Here to share multiple decades of her own heart-centred truths is Louise Mackenzie - A genuine Mentor and Maven.

Welcome to Mentors and Mavens. International Women's Day, March 8th 2021, my guest is the incredible Monika Carmichael.

I’ve personally known Monika as a friend for over 20 years. I’ve watched her become both Mentor and Maven in the city of Peterborough and truly admire her strength and tenacity.

Monika bought her father’s business at just 38years old – the same years she became pregnant with her daughter. As fate would have it, she also became a single mom soon after, losing her husband to cancer when Kate was only 3months old.

The only female car dealer in the city, Monika gives her father credit for father instilling in her an impeccable work ethic, showing her how to live with genuine integrity, how to garner and earn respect, and how to take every opportunity to give and serve others.

Monika prides herself in fostering positive working relationships among her staff of 50, passionately providing leadership, coaching and ongoing customer service training to her team.

The recent recipient of two prestigious awards in Peterborough, she was named business woman of the year in 2019 and in 2018 was inducted into the Peterborough business hall of fame.

As a woman, Monika says she believes we all need to allow ourselves to dream bigger. Nothing is impossible if you’re willing to work at it. She is her own proof of that.

Be prepared to be inspired by this dynamic woman’s journey. I know I am.
