The Great British Mickey Waffle show for the 1st June has been edited to be an exclusive show about the Sherman Brothers, following the sad passing of Richard M Sherman on Saturday 25th May. This month, for our Great British Mickey Waffle Mid-month show, the team of Wafflers, led by Claire, made some new friends - or as they like to call their own community - ‘Ohana.

The team of Matt and Krystle from Married to Disney Addict Podcast and community joined us for a chat that, quite frankly, could have kept going for hours and hours and hours!

Claire had joined Matt and Krystle for one of their shows back in December and had a load of fun, so we invited them to join us to waffle about some Disney history, and future.

First of all though, as newcomers to our community we extended the warm and fuzzy hug of welcome, known only as the Carousel of Questions. It’s been a couple of years since this feature was retired - maybe we should bring it back for new guests? Let us know in the comments if you think we should.

After that we chatted about some classic attractions that have long since hung up their offerings to guests, and whether we as a group believe that what has replaced them is better… or worse?

Is Frozen Ever After an improvement on Maelstrom?

Is Toy Story Land a better experience than the classic MGM Studios Backlot Tour?

Could Creations ever be preferable to Mouse Gear?

And the one we found the hardest - is Baseline Tap House an adequate replacement for the glory and oasis that was The Writer’s Stop?

We discuss attractions, restaurants, shopping and even some night-time spectaculars and decide if the newer offerings are a step up, or a step down from the previous inhabitants of that space.

October 15th has arrived very quickly and as we rush towards the Christmas season, we stop off briefly, to have a chat with Sean Lee about his recent return to Walt Disney World.

Claire is in charge, with her glamorous assistants Ben and John, and true to form, she breaks all the rules by bringing back “for one show only”, the Great British Mickey Waffle Carousel of Questions.

Sean is subjected to the classic lines of enquiry, which range from snacks to car parks, and of course - the battle of the Animal Kingdom shows.

We had a great chat with Sean, whom is a regular in the chat on our Wafflers’ Wednesday shows, about his trip to WDW in September, where he stayed in a value resort for the first time; having always previously enjoyed DVC or deluxe resorts. It’s December the 1st 2022 and my goodness, the team may be a little depleted, but what fun they had chatting about some VERY important news, and let’s face it - it’s about quality not quantity isn’t it?

News just in on the day of recording found out that in the Disney company it appears that when one Bob leaves, another appears, or in this situation, re-appears! Exciting discussions about what Bob number 1, who is now actually Bob number 3, should prioritise as his first actions back in the CEO seat.

Ben, Becca and Claire are all going to have the chance to experience EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays this year, and so they chat about the food, entertainment and experience offerings that they are looking forward to testing out, including which is their favourite of this year’s Candlelight Processional hosts.

Finally, Disney + is throwing a load of festive content our way this year, so what’s on the top of our watch list? Some old, some new, and definitely a Bob or two.

Welcome to the October 2022 episode of The Great British Mickey Waffle.

This month we are raising a glass to celebrate the 40th birthday of one of our favourite parks. Whether you think of it as EPCOT Center, Epcot, or just ‘that park with the big golf ball’, there really is nowhere else like it.

Becca takes us back to the park’s opening on 1 October 1982. It was very different from Walt’s original vision of the ‘Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow’, but there were already some attractions in place which we still enjoy today. Any guesses on which ones? And how did the park change over its first decade? (Let’s just say the word ‘Horizons’ features strongly!)

Claire moves us on into the 1990s, and meets a certain purple dragon and his friend. Plus you can find out about a Surprise in the Sky which seems to have had a lasting impact, and also how Epcot marked the millennium with a controversial wand.

Peter picks up the story in 2002 with the introduction of Soarin’ and a drive with some crash test dummies, as well as changes to Figment’s journey. There are memories of the last days of Innoventions, including the Sum of All Thrills and its giant piggy bank.

Finally, Ben is our guide from 2012 back to the present, with a look back at Agent P’s adventure (sorry if you are now singing the theme tune all day) .We go ‘back, back, over the falls’ to Maelstrom, dine with princesses and talk about food and fireworks. It’s the middle of July and we are taken on a very special journey into the sounds in the parks - no not the musical sounds but, the ambient sounds that surround us and remind us of special places throughout Walt Disney World.

Join in the fun, as we try to guess where in the World some recordings were made but even more so, remind yourself of some of the incredible sounds that really do take you to your happy place.

We were joined by Jason Canapp of Here with the Magic, who has a podcast called Soundscapes where these special sounds become part of a binaural listening experience, which take you to so many different places across Walt Disney World and Disneyland. It's July 2022 already and at the beginning of the summer season, we enjoy a low-down on Ben and Becca's very recent trip back to WDW.

We consider what has changed since they travelled back in November 2021 and any new experiences they had, including staying at their home resort of Saratoga Springs and also Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind attraction.

Up for consideration is the recently made available UK offer for dining or merch credit for onsite stays and whether it would tempt our hard and fast off-site fans John and Claire to venture to a WDW hotel stay?

John completes his Carousel of Questions (it could be a long one so get comfortable!) and there is so much to talk about looking forward into our 4th year of GBMW!

This month, we keep our waffle sharing a little closer to home and have a chat with Claire about her recent and first solo trip to Walt Disney World.

It’s the first time she has been back to the USA since August 2019 and this was a short trip of only 5 nights at the Gran Destino Tower.

We are excited to have Jason Canapp of Here With The Magic, and Soundscapes by Here With the Magic join us for this chat.

Claire and Jason managed to catch up for the first time in person during her trip and they recount tales of wet seat cushions, petrol stations, exploring EPCOT with lots of friends and family along with some truly fabulous food and drink stories.

Claire talks about what it was like to travel alone, all the things she enjoyed and what’s still left on the list for next trip - there is quite a lot!

It’s December 2021 and Claire takes the anchor role this month as Ben and Becca are still getting over the jetlag, Gill is trying to hold down the roof in Wales and John is busy warming his chestnuts by the fire.

Sadly, Peter is a little under the weather so not coming out to play this month.

First of all we hear about the two amazing Disney Park visits that our Wafflers have enjoyed. Ben and Becca made it to Walt Disney World on the very first day of the boarders being open, and not only met up with many friends of the show that we have all made in the last two years, but also made it onto BBC Radio, National TV News and even Disney UK’s own social channels! They will need their own agent soon to manage their own Meet & Greet!

We talk about crowds, resorts, food and also Disney Genie. It sounds like it was an action-packed trip.

Gill and Peter also made a visit to Disneyland Paris last month and whilst some of the Studios park remains under construction for the exciting Marvel Avengers Campus which opens in 2022, they had a lot of fun enjoying the seasonal offerings in our local parks. It wasn’t even too cold!

Next on the schedule of events, the team talk about their favourite festive offerings in the parks over the years. It’s amazing all the different things that we enjoy and how it all builds together to make it the happiest Season ever!

Finally, we all reflect on what a year 2021has been, and think about what is planned in 2022 for everyone.

Claire, Ben and Becca were so excited to be able to have the opportunity to “Share a Waffle” with none other than Kate Herron, director of the recently concluded season 1 of the Marvel Disney + Series: Loki.

Kate had lots to tell us about her experiences shooting Loki. We discussed her favourite scene to create, what it was like being part of the MCU, and the incredible opportunity to work with the best SFX team in the business.

We also had the chance to probe a little into the clever Easter eggs left around the show, how B15 was originally written as a male role, and also what it feels like for her to be handing the show across to a different director for Season 2 and whatever mischief it will bring.

We even discussed Mobius and his Jet Ski!

We are so grateful to Kate for spending her time chatting to us, joining us in geeking out about Loki and Marvel, and even pondering the concept of Alligator Loki perhaps appearing in a parade one day… stranger things have happened!

It’s June which means it’s time for another episode in our “GBMW Shares a Waffle” series.

This month Claire, ably assisted by Ben, Becca and John, had the absolute pleasure in chatting with the always chipper, cheery and very interesting Zac Brown.

No, not THAT Zac Brown (the one with the band), but OUR Zac Brown - the one who is a part of many of the Disney communities we love to be part of regularly.

Zac’s own podcast - The Zac Brown Show - has been around for about 18 months and it features him having some really fabulous conversations with a huge variety of guests. Some of the most notable are Trader Brandon (Brandon Kleyla) who was an Imagineer working on Trader Sam’s; musician Corey Jess, and some well known friends of the GBMW - Jason Canapp, Carlos Silva and of course Lou Mongello.

Zac proved to be a superb guest - he faced our Carousel of Questions and told us about his dinner party plans. We talked about our excitement for the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Coaster and he discussed with us what motivates him about leaving a legacy (not the EPCOT tiny photo version) and why music is so important in his life.

We had so much fun with Zac, and it’s highly likely that he will be back - there was so much more to talk about!

We love it when a guest has more to say than we do (and this is pretty difficult when John is in the team) - this was definitely one of those shows!

Disney Dining Plan – to do or not to do!! Sounds simple or sounds daunting, hope we can help!

Claire takes the anchor duties for the first time in quite a while, joined by the whole team of John, Sammie, Gill, Peter, Ben and Becca to continue that discussion from the past few months. Food…. and especially trying to ascertain “Is the DDP EVER really free?”

Unfortunately the Millennium Falcon was being repaired after we managed to crash it during Smugglers Run. Once we had recovered by riding Rise of The Resistance it was time to take on a challenge set by one of our listeners.

We attempt a bar crawl from Hollywood Studios to Epcot, stopping at all Skyliner Resorts for 1 food item and 1 drink. Some very interesting choices were made and some were easier to pronounce than others.

Once we had recovered from our trip we delved into the options available and what to consider when staying offsite. From the delights of the expansive hotels on International Drive to being close to Disney Springs by staying in Lake Buena Vista.

In this special episode, Claire, Ben, Becca and John had the chance to chat it up with Carlos Eduardo Silva who is the creator of Ponto Orlando and Ponto Miami - two Portuguese language online Florida content channels aimed at our Brazilian Disney-loving cousins.

Carlos also hosts the regular weekly “After hours - Let’s Talk Disney” live Facebook and YouTube show on a Thursday night with his friends Jason Canapp (whom we interviewed back on show episode 15) from Here with the Magic and Collin Kendall from Guide4WDW.

We had so much fun talking to Carlos - we covered all sorts of topics- from WDW to his previous trip to DLP, a very special Disney dinner party, and also Formula 1 racing, football (yes - Football, not soccer) and even some stellar music from the 1980’s that John particularly enjoyed.

And of course - as is now traditional with our interviews, Carlos faced the GBMW Carousel of Questions!

Despite being born thousands of miles away from the UK, we certainly found that there were more similarities in our love for Disney and connections with friends than there were differences.

Some of us Wafflers are hoping to get over to WDW as soon as we are able to fly again and a Caipirinha (or 6) with Carlos is definitely on the list of priorities.

We may even let the other 2 join us.

In this episode Lloyd takes the reins as we virtually get together for our 1st Birthday party. As the sun rises on the parks once again, we feel a wave of positivity for future visits and all agree it’s the right time to talk about what we miss the most, or in brighter times what we look forward to the most.

We have the last Carousel of Questions in our quick fire decision series. This time John takes us through his answers. You will all have seen the Guardians of the Galaxy refresh to the Tower of Terror over in Anaheim. Some love the change of theme to what is in essence the same ride. This gets the team thinking about which rides would suit a new theme. Anything is up for grabs, even IPs within the Marvel and Star Wars galaxies. Some of the Wafflers are in the wrong job, imagineering here they come!

We have the usual ‘Mickey Mentions’. Not so many trip announcements this time, but plenty of birthdays and anniversaries for the team to send a well timed “congratultions” to. We also learn that Lloyd was tricked into filming a cooking show with Peter. That video is now available on our YouTube channel.

Round three of the, It’s a Disney Knockout competition is another tough one. The Wafflers are forced to choose entertainment and centrepieces for the Birthday Party. With Valentine's Day not too far away and budgets being stretched by our many trips to the Mouse, we try and spend less than $50 for a romantic evening at Disney.
