I was only able to record 2 1/2 hours of the show this morning due to continuing issues with OBS Studio being stupid. But that is why we do a mainly audio show. Well that plus @thisnewgirl is the only one on the show thats worth looking at for 3 hrs a week. We didnt play any music but the discussion went from personal expectation of privacy and rights to a new contest that was announced before I posted this episode. How we started from a delicate and passionate subject that moved into talking about disturbing memes I will never figure out.
But then again, I never understand half of what we talk about. All I know is we are having fun and thats what this show is about!

Thank you to Mariano, Raymond, Ron, Gabriel,Swoop and Normok for coming on and opening up their microphones to talk. The mood was our normal light and fun until about 1:45 mark. When @thisnewgirl made it on and told us all her terrifying story of this past week. She is now living in fear and has asked for any kind of work. She posted some of the story in chat for ease of translation. So while you are listening there are long drawn out pauses of all of us reading those words. Then she would talk to try to better explain. But we were all very shocked and inspired by the strength that she has in this situation. She is absolutely an amazingly resilient woman. She is handling this better than most men in the USA. We have mental breakdowns to tears if we cant get a cold beer or hot coffee.

Getting Back to Normal, Almost
Things are starting to slowly get back to normal around here. John's had the ability to talk while actually moving his jaw. @thisnewgirl wasn't coughing and feeling good. And Unkle Bonehead, well lets just say he lives up to his name. I mean seriously, who lets this guy have control of the streaming software?

This was a really rough show. Each of us was sick or injured in some way. John had a massive toothache, This New Girl has Covid and I'm dealing with Congestive Heart Failure. Needless to say we toughed it out for at least 2 of the 3 hour show. I think that Clay or Ron got on to entertain the audience for the last hour or so. Thank you to whoever did.
But I do tell the interesting story of my time in the hospital and what motivated me to finally go.
If you experience any of my symptoms please dont be like me and ignore them. Go to the damn doctor!

We actually had the whole gang together for this and we got it recorded!
We originally intended to talk about the 100+ vehicle pile up that resulted in 69 injured and 6 deaths. It happened in Fort Worth, TX on I35 due to icy roads.
But as usual the show takes an extreme hard left and veers into some unexpected, how do you say, "romantic" conversation in the honour of Valentines Day.

What a great night it was last night! For me personally missing last weeks show entirely and all the technical difficulties of the last couple weeks. It was nice to actually do a proper show and have it streamed to the usual places and not just on discord.
We had the full cast plus a few of you jumped in and started opening up.
The conversation ran over everything from anal swab covid testing to female masturbation devices.

I dont honestly now what happened. Either Frankenputer got infected with a gremlin that didnt want me to stream or something borked up some where. But OBS Studio just would not let me stream.
So I fired up Ardour and just recorded the audio. I then edited together a quick video to accompany it so I could put it on 3Speak, BitChute and YouTube.
For the audio podcast subscribers you should notice a huge improvemet in the audio quaility. For you people that like to watch the video so you can see the memes and pics we are laughing at, well, you're out of luck.
An enhanced experience
I did however get the new intro video as well as the music video for the song we played to sync up quite nicely. Plus I added titles and hive/3Speak ID's to the video version.

It was an etremely long day for me and I was tired. Thank god for the fans of the show!
I had around 4 hours of sleep the night before and already been awake for nearly 20+ hours by the time the show started. So needless to say I wasnt all that talkative to start out with and neither was @jgearjammer.Radioman was out getting his computer fixed and joined us later when he got back home and got it set up.
But about an hour in to it I put out the call for some help and @dunstable jumped at the chance. Then Radioman joined in shortly after that. Thats about when the party got started with @thisnewgirl and @hiveqa showing up. @thisnewgirl fired up her mic and joined in and we were finally off and rolling!
I am so happy and thankful to you the listeners.
You are what makes doing Loud and Proud so much fun! John and I have said from the beginning that we are the audience and you guys are the hosts.

Wow! What a train wreck of a show. Even worse than our normal crash and burn.
We tried streaming to 2 extra sites and something went all wiggy wacky at the restreamer that then possibly fed back to us that caused Frankenputer to go haywire. Then the zombies started roaming the streets, rainging hell fire, cats and dogs playing together! It was literally an apocalypse of biblical proportions!

We asked for an extra hour and for some stupid reason the powers that be granted it us! So we are now on Sundays from 12-3am UTC time! For those of you here in the states that is Saturdays 8-11pm EST until daylight savings time kicks in. Then it changes to 7-10pm DST. I really hate DST and wish it would just go away.
In this episode we only played two songs. First was a cover of Eddie VanHalen's "Eruption" and "This is Halloween" by Broken Peach.
The final hour we kept with now traditional MadLib and it turned out to be a doozy of one.
John and I cant express how much it means to us that you all turn up to listen to us babble about stupid stuff and really appreciate each and every one of you who do tune in to listen to the live show. You are all 1000% awesome!

It was awesome to finally have done a successful show. And by successful I mean we actually completed all 2 hours without any major hiccups or breaking of the stream.
We did a couple of mad libs from Mad Takes and as you can guess they got pretty, ahem, clears throat, they got pretty adult orientated.

Whats happin lately
Seems like here lately I've been plagued with some major production problems. Every time I turn around something goes wrong. I know a lot of it has to do that I'm working with old equipment. The hardware itself is pretty high quality. Such as the mics and audio interface. But the computers I have are low budget. Previously there was one called Frankenputer which is a mashup of some old laptop parts cobbled together and held by literally 2 screws. The other was a decent Dell laptop that was good until a couple of weeks ago decided not to boot. I also have an old Acer C300 Chromebook running InstantOS that I use in the truck for writing Hive posts when I have time during the week.
I got it running yesterday and all was kind of good until show time and all hell broke loose. I was able to salvage the audio so that is what is being posted this week. The audio turned out quite well but the video was so choppy and looked like something from the 90's that it was literally unusable.
Opening song is "My Country" from Watch Them Burn whose singer is @dexpartacus, a fellow hive user.
In this episode I also deleted my BoneheadUnkle twitter account. I am now only @3speakvidshare on twitter that account will only be hive posts nothing more.
This will get better. I promise. I just need to learn how to use what little I have. Lol.
And maybe just make a little extra cash and buy a new computer.

Audio only episodes
I have decided that I will no longer produce audio only episodes. Its not that I dont like to do them but I have found that it is much easier to just produce video and then rip the audio to Anchor. So if you are subscribed to an audio only feed this is why the episode numbers are jumping and there appears to be large gaps between publications. I have published 3 episodes and they were very visual. I'll be honest here and just admit that I will probably eventually phase out the audio only episodes in favor of video. I'm starting to really like to edit and produce the video episodes more and more. And even have an idea to produce a "documentary" about trucking and being decentralized. Prolly just a pipe dream.
I started a new (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4RQU-YGBbDp4JFAHt3LnmQ) and I go over some things that are absolutely absurd that YouTube is doing now because they are clearly only wanting people to start a channel in order to make money off of you. And if you arent already an established creator with a large audience then you will never "make it big" on YouTube. Thank god there is a couple of alternatives where creators are reporting that they are making more money with a smaller audience than on YouTube.
I would give you a nice looking url but since I have to 100 subscribers and be active for 30 days I wont ever get to give you a pretty url to go to. So I will just link my absolutely favorite video sites below.
I still love LBRY and am loving 3Speak more and more each day. I am posting pretty much everything on LBRY and only posting some things on 3Speak. I am hoping to post everything on 3Speak as well but am still trying to get it caught up.
I've been experimenting with different video editors and am even trying out Blender. Which has a huge learning curve. At least for me anyways.

Hive people has written a really great post on how to get started so I'm going to ask you to go read the full post here. But in a a nutshell here is the process if you are brand new and are not coming from Steem as I was.

Now for some reason or another eSteem was having issues that day but I was able to sign up through an @Engrave account by going through a link on https://signup.hive.io/ Just what ever you do dont give up. You will get in. Keep in mind these are real people and not some random bots that approve your invite.
The Process was simple enough.
When you clik on the big sign up button it takes you to a page that has list of users offering invites, whether they will hive delegated, any requirements to prove you are real and not a spammer. An estimated response time from them and how many invites they have remaining. Just choose one and click on the claim link on the far right and follow the instructions. Like I said pretty simple. By the way my invite said to expect 72 hrs for a response. I got in within 3-4 hrs. Thats pretty damn quick in my book.
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
Save your private keys! NOBODY CAN SEND THEM TO YOU AGAIN, EVER! If you loose them they are gone forever. You will have to start over with brand new keys and new identity. They are randomly generated and not stored in any database. These are not passwords. You have to think of them as a physical metal key to get into your house. Save them on a usb stick, sd card or print them out on paper! It can not be stressed enough. SAVE YOUR KEYS!!!!!

How I post
When I'm at home or on the laptop on wifi. I use PeakD through the Brave browser. I also tend to switch hit and use the eSteem desktop app as well. While I'm on the browser subject you can use a couple of extensions on Brave. There is HiveSigner and/or Hive Keychain. I'm currently running Hivesigner on the Frankenputer big dog computer and Hive Keychain on my Chromebook C300 running GalliumOS.And both work beautifully. I honestly cant decide which one I like better. It does seem to be that Hive Keychain is just a tad faster on the C300 than the Frankenputer.
When I'm on mobile, which is 80% of the week I currently use 2 android apps. I use Hive Wallet and/or eSteem's android app. I admit that eSteem is my go to android app currently. Because it just works. But HiveWallet does have a browser that lets you use other hive apps such as PeakD. It is honestly a little clanky at the moment but it is still ver, very new as with everything in the Hive ecosystem. But that is what is making this jouney so damn exciting!

I'm a dad to the best girl in the world!
Yes I know every parent says that but I call bull shit on most. There are truly only a handful of remarkable people out there in the world. And I believe my little Peanut is one of them. She has grown up dealing with extreme anxiety and shyed away from social interactions for most of her childhood, And having a truck driver for a dad she basically grew up with a part time dad. Now whether or not me not being there all those years was the cause of that anxiety I dont know. I just know she is a very talented artist and is most happy with colored pencils and paper or paint and a canvas. She can create some of the most amazing images in just about any medium you can think of and she never ceases to amaze me. I do feel very bad for her because she was just starting to come out of her shell and got a boyfriend, was making friends at school and then the world went into lockdown and now she cant see anyone. Talk about feeling like the world is aligned against you. The poor kid is so stressed right now. I cant imagine what its like for her.
I love my dog
This really is no secret to anybody that follows me on social media. I have posted many pics of my dog Cinnamon (Minnie). She is a Mini Austrailian Sheppard that we paid around $400 because she was my wife's birthday present. Turns out Minnie bonded with me the minute we got her. She is my little hemorroid because she is constantly up my ass. When I'm home she will not leave my side and will go bonkers if I'm in another room
I have type 2 diabetes
This is somewhat important since I am a truck driver. I'm treating it with a once a day insulin shot, a handful of pills and diet. But iI may have a problem that will disquilify me as a driver. My A1c will not stay down low enough. Meaning that I may be developing a resistance to the insulin. Which means that I will most likely be switched to a diagosis of type 1 diabetes melititus. And that form of diabetes is not allowed by the dot.
Religon is the problem not the diety.
Humans are the dumbest form of intelligent life that has ever been created. Whether you belive that it evolved from a soup of proteins or an omniscent being snapped it's fingers. We let our emotions control us way too much. We put our beliefs in what we each think is right in our own minds. And then we only associate with others that agree mostly with what we ourselves think. Then we oppose all who disagree and label them as evil. All religons are a cult of some kind. Even the lack of one is a cult. What people should be doing is to just have faith. Faith isnt religon, religon is a sinking ship that people jump onto simply because they need a purpose in life. Faith is a vehicle moving forward, towards a destination. Whether your destination is to replicate the life of a diety or to simply exist in a life of peace. Humans need a reason to exist. A reason to live. We need to feel like we are here with a job to do. People have used religon as a weapon to try to get what they personally wanted throughout history. Whether it was the christian crusades, or the jewish holocost. The vast amount of wars through the centries and the slaughtering of billions of human lives have been over religon. Religon has never been about God(s) or dieties, It's always been about one humans power over another human.
Why I dont talk about politics
They are devisive, Just as much as religon is about power, politics is the same. In fact it so much similar that we have cults here in the USA, they are known as Democrats and Republicans.

I hear rumors that Lbry is working on a Lbry to YouTube sync. I could get behind that.
You may notice some changes here in the podcast. For instance, no music. No more fluff. No more flashy pizzazy stuff. And here is why. I'm making a more concerted effort to produce videos on Lbry. I know that in this crazy, fast paced world we live in people dont have time to listen to same crap repeated over and over. Every damn episode. So I'm gonna cut the fluff and just get into it.
Especially since I am planning on doing 3 frickin podcasts this year, lol. So if you want to hear music and fluff listen to NTROradio. I'm hoping this will allow me to do more episodes per week rather than just one every week or two.

I was surprised that Googles invidual apps trackers were quite low. But collectivly they are huge. Pilot and Loves had no trackers just blew my mind. But Trucker Path, one of the most popular trucking apps around has *32 trackers and 20 permissions! WHY??? I am recommending all of my trucker friends to uninstall this app immeadiatly!!* Even iHeartRadio, an app I use daily has as many trackers as it has permissions! DLive joins Bit Torrent
BitTorrent announced today that DLive, the popular blockchain-based content sharing platform, will be joining the BitTorrent ecosystem and begin the migration to the TRON blockchain. This is not a normal episode!
This is a replay of my last Christmas show. It originaly aired both in the feed for The Unkle Bonehead Show and on UBSN.net. My first radio station that was all me. In it you will here me reference. Linux for the rest of us training videos. They are still available but pretty dated since this was recorded 2011-12-24.
I also referenced that I was making a distro that was specificly for streaming audio to an internet radio station. Dont look for it because it never came to frutition. I had only been using Linux for about 9 months at this point. And as with most noobs who find Linux I wanted to do everything right then not thinking of how hard it is to do without knowing the tech and just how practical the final distro would be. Lol.
Some of these songs, while not performed by Creative Commons artists were released originally on a Christmas album back in the early to mid 90's and was then released on The Podsafe Music Network (Meevio) back in 2008 by the record label. It of course had many more artists than I played on this episode but suffice it to say it was all hair bands. I am making it available in this feed just as a bonus episode. Internet Archive could use your support! Housekeeping I got a new Yunohost set up. My old computer didnt die like I thought it did. It was just the hard drive and I have plenty of spares. So I just downloaded a new iso stuck it on a thumb drive and BOOM! It’s back up. I’m gonna keep it light this time. Only using it for my Funkwhale Pod, FreshRss and Firefox sync.

She describees herself as a 34 yr old unemployed person with Multiple Sclerosis among other things. She used to have a Paypal tip jar but they blocked it for some stupid reason. So if you can please go and get something off of her wishlist on Amazon. These are items that she needs mostly for her health. But there are some things that she just cant afford anymore. The reason for two lists is the one in spanish costs less since it wont involve extra costs with shipping and customs fees. The USA one is for those who have problems with the .es one. She says if you can and want to help please do, but only if you can afford it. Incidently she is also the organizer of #wearenameless where a group gets together online and watches old sci-fi movies as well as the LollipopCloud’s Community Manager.

LollipopCloud and the Funkwhale Podcasters meeting LollipopCloud
This is similar to the Freedombox and Yunohost’s Internet Cube. But I think it’s a little more different. They have listed in the downloads section armbian, borg and raspian images. I’ve wanted to have my own “cloud” here in the truck so that when I didnt have a data signal I could still have access to media to watch or listen too. Some maps to use get directions on, something like CodiMD to write up show notes instead of on the laptop, etc. But I’m gonna have to get a RaspberrPi to do it because it’s only ARM devices.
Funkwhale Podcasters MeetingEliot Berriot has posted the minutes for the first meeting and I was lucky enough to have been able to attend for most of it! It didnt last all that long since everybody was pressed for time. BUt here is the gist of it. We’ve got 3 podcasters in the publishing testing pool and 4 people in the listeners testing pool. We discussed some tasks and are working out schedules for regular meetings as well as working out all the logistics. Dude I am stoked and know the others are as well. This is ground breaking and I think it has the potential to turn the podcasting world upside down.

Funkwhale 0.20.0
And now for the exciting peice for me. Their current proposal is to focus the 0.21 release on audio publication, by bringing support for podcasts and channels in Funkwhale. The 0.22 release would be focused on stabilization, enhancements, bugfixes and could possibly be labeled Funkwhale 1.0.
Did you catch that? PODCASTS and CHANELLS in Funkwhale! This would turn it into a kind of mashup between PeerTube and Spotify. This leads into the next part of Funkwhale news.

Housekeeping A YouTube Channel? On the Fediverse earlier this week I asked about starting a YouTube channel for the podcast. Just to look for exposure to the apps and Fediverse that I am trying to evangelize. How easy it is to actually use them, host them, blah, blah. You know the speil from me by now. Now I'm not talking about abandoning PeerTube. I love me some PeerTube. But this YouTube content will be centered towards the average everyday "I got my coffee and I'm sitting in the break room watching YouTube on my phone at work" person. Again I want to show these people that if a guy like me can do this so can they. I am anything but an educated indvidual. I tried to go to tech college for electonics, I hated it. Ya know, I think I'm gonna have to let you all in on a little secret right here, right now. I've never told anybody this. And most people outside of my immeadiate family dont know this. I dont think I've even told one of my best freinds of 20+ years.
I dont have a high school dipolma! Hell, I dont even have a GED. Thats right you are listening to a high school reject. Not to toot my own horn but I think I've done pretty good for myself over the years with out a little peice of paper that says I know how to do things. For you older people my age dont ever think you ar to old to learn something. You have an advantage that these young kids dont. You already know how to learn. And for you young kids, and by kids I mean anybody from the age of 49 all the way down to just starting to go to school. Dont ever let anybody tell you that you cant learn something. You first steps, just like when you were a baby was to crawl before you learned how to walk. So keep trying and dont ever stop learning because somebody told you to. And that really goes for anybody. Never stop learning, never stop trying and never, ever give up!

I do plan on implementing ads on this channel and will start live streaming the recording of this podcast (which is usually Sunday mornings) plus random streams from my phone through out the week. The main reasons for the ads are..
- Revenue to cover the cost of production

Yunohost 3.7 Testing asking for feedback
We just released a new testing version for YunoHost and would be happy to receive feedback before releasing it as a stable version :yum:
This release includes quite important changes in YunoHost’s internal, and therefore requires careful validation to minimize the amount of remaining bugs.
Major changes are:
- Group and permission mechanism
- Improvements to detect app installs that broke critical parts of the system.
- Scarier wornings for dangerous app installs
- Message imporvement, string cleaning and a language rework
- Removing etckeeper
- Improved translations for Cataln, Occitan, French, Esperanto, Arabic, German, Spanish, Norwegian Bokmal, Portuguese and Swedish.

Debian released sudo v1.8.28 that fixes CVE 14287, the vulnerability that allows users to run applications as root without permission. It really only affects you if you’ve configured sudo improperly but I still recommend upgrading as soon as the update hits your mirror. - H/T Amolith

The easiest way to accomplish this is to host the services I use. I make them public and and maintain them simply because I want to. The Linux and FLOSS community has completely changed my life and I feel like this is a small way I can do my part and give back.

Housekeeping Yunohost has been upgraded to 3.6.5.2 along with Yunohost Admin panel. It is now at 3.6.5. Nextcloud-ynh has also been updated to 15.0.11. I ran into an issue just after upgrading. I was getting an “api not responding” error and ended up logging out and doing something else for about 10 minutes. When I logged back in everything was working so it seems to have fixed itself and all is right in the world of the bonehead. It turns out that this is normal. Some apps will need to restart nginx which during this time the admin panel cannot access it. So just be patient and it will fix itself.
Yunohost is looking for help in translations.If you can help by doing some translations please go here.I got an email from one of the devs and they say that they need the most help with >When running YunoHost in any locale, (even English) it still remains the case that the stringbase is lacking, or flat out erroneous.
Dont know if I should let this cat out of the bag yet but I’m going to. Yunohost is going to start a blog for news and updates. You can help with this if you like by folowing the repo on github.
Critcial Know ErrorIf you subscribe to the feed in the upper right corner of the site https://boneheadmedia.com/index.xml in Nextcloud News you will get an error. I can not reproduce this on a desktop or mobile app but I know what the problem is. That file is generated by hugo and it prints out lacking a closeing tag. I will try to solve this issue but since the site is generated by netlify and github using hugo everytime I fix it on github it regenerates the screwed up file and I go in a vicious circle.

Hubzilla is a social networking platform built with control of your privacy at center stage. Your online communications can be as public as you wish or as private as you require. Private conversations, private photos, private videos. Your media isn’t hidden behind an obscure URL which can be guessed, it is protected by state-of-the-art cross-domain authentication. What this all means for youis less drama.
It does require a dedicated domain so if you are using a domain from Yunohost you wont be able to install it. If you have your own domain such as boneheadmedia.com you can intstall it in a subdomain such as hub.boneheadmedia.com. It also requires that you have an ssl cert.

Housekeeping My laptop broke. Thats why I’ve been silent. But I was able to jerry rig it enough that its usable. I’ll post pics or you can go see them on Mastodon. I’m using KDENeon and I am loving how easy it is on the ram. It really quick and light. Plus I’m on a newer kernel instead of using a low latency 4.xx on Ubuntu Studio. I may just keep this and be rid of US forever. But I do want to try Manjaro really bad. I used Arch once before but I borked it and decided it was not for me. But I hear nothing but good reviews for Manjaro for the last couple of years now. Plus its what Unfa uses. And if its good enough for Unfa to create the beautiful music he does with it why wouldn’t it be good for a podcaster? Some quick stats about you from Anchor. As you know these are only tracked if you are using an app on your mobile or listening to it on Anchors website. If you manually download from the show notes I have no idea who you are or where you are from. As of this recording 603 plays. And there is estimated to be at least 50 of you that listen to me every time I put out an episode. Thank you and I hope you are getting something out of this. 59% of you use Android while only 17% of you use iphone. 24% of you are listed as other so I am guessing that is on the web. I also know that 51% of you are in the US with UK, Germany, Australia and Canda rounding out the top 10. In total this podcast is being listened to in 26 countries around the world. Yunohost App highlight FreshRss A free, self hostable aggregator I have fallen in love with it. Its clean and easy to read and use. Looks and works good enough on mobile that you dont really need an app. Has two different api’s. Greader and Fever
News How to avoid being banned by fail2ban forever! So a user by the name of “Mad” over at the Yunohost forums has posted a pretty awesome tip. To be honest I havent tried it out yet but I plan to as soon as I get my laptop situation straightened out. It’s a two part solution if I am understanding this. 1. Always allow ssh from another fixed ip address. What this is ssh into a vps and then through that vps you ssh into your Yunohost. So on your Yunohost you need to set fail2ban to always allow a connection from the other vps. Pretty simple and quite interesting concept. 2. But when your not in that specific vps and you need to access your Yunohost. So he has posted a script that uses dyndns so you can do the same thing from home. I’ll put it in the shownotes. Aleks noted in the thread that in Yunohost version 3.7 they are increasing the max retry to 10 on fail2ban to help aleviate the problem of there being only 5 attempts allowed currently.

I'm trying to get NTROradio back up and running. I want it to be a 24/7 station that I can go live with anytime I want to. I would eventually like to have it so that other people from other staions can either jump on live or syndicate their shows on. I already have the site up but it only streams when I am live. I cant seem to get any player to work but you can at least listen to the link in VLC, Rhythmbox, Clementine or any app that supports a stream link. The link will also play in a seperate tab. It's going to have a podcast to go with it.

It seems that this podcasts goal has already been achieved. It has inspired 2 people to start self hosting. I got a couple of notifications on Mastodon that one is researching on how to self host on bsd and the other actually installed Yunohost! Thats frickin AWESOME!
CONGRATS TO BOTH OF YOU! And I sincerely hope it works out for each your situations. Especially the one doing it on bsd. I want to know how you end up doing it!

Additional Security points from a Yunohost Dev
Alek, one of the main dev/contributor on Yunohost's core and project managment team sent me some additional points to remember about security. The emphasis is mine.
One of the key point of security is to limit the attack surface. Don't install apps just for fun or give access to the user "because it's convenient and might be useful later"
Don't get too crazy about using the top-notch security ciphers with 4096bit keys or whatever. It doesn't matter. Usually the weak link of the security is elsewhere - either human or technical.
Last but not least, there is no such thing as "being secure". Security is a process, and is always a tradeoff with usability.
For ex, in the context of Yunohost, we have fail2ban configured to ban after 5 failed auth attempt. We see that it triggers a lot of false positive (legitimate users trying to login and getting banned for misc reasons).
But point is, even if you get to some perfect "technical" security, the human part of security is not to be neglected
I know that this is'nt something new. Framasoft and other people have already launched a similar campaign a year or so ago. So I admit that I am riding the coat tails of some big peeps. But since I've joined the Fediverse and really embraced it and the whole "control your data" movement I've noticed that there are an awful lot of, I dont know what you call them, bot accounts? It looks like its a bot that is just reposting crap from Twitter accounts on Mastodon. Somebody is prolly just being lazy and wrote a script that will copy/paste something to Mastodon. But I ask why? Why stay on Twitter and bitch about Twitter? Why stay of Facebook and bitch about Facebook?
So far I have deleted all Instagram, Twitter, Apple, Amazon and Microsoft accounts. I have 1 google and 1 facebook remaining.

I just recorded episode 4 of The Self Hosted Vidcast. I uninstalled Wordpress and showed how to install a static html site on Yunohost.
Bonehead Media is back to being a simple static html site. It's only got 2 pages that I built in Bootstrap Studio. I'll flesh it out more in the future.
I would like to turn it into a theme for Pelican or Hugo and post the shownotes to the front page. But that will require more effort on an ongoing basis for me. Plus I already have my stuff posted to the Fediverse. The reason behind that is three fold.

It has the coolness factor that you can subscribe through Mastodon (and the rest of the Fediverse) or the RSS feed.

Just in case something catestrophic happens to my home server you will still be able to get updates.

It will drasticaly reduce the traffic to my home server.
I'm looking for a better Markdown editor for Ubuntu. I'm currently using Remarkable and it works good but I would like to try something new.

YunoHost has been developed to provide the best security without too much complication. Every protocol used in YunoHost are encrypted, only password's hashs are stored and by default each user is able to access to his personal directory only.

To truly get rid of Google you will need to replace your Android phone! More on this towards the end.
These can all be covered using some ethical and free companies such as Framasoft. But then again its your data on a server (cloud) owned by some company ran by real people you dont personally know. So your options are to purchase a VPS from a reputable, privacy concious company or host your own server in your home. Both of these options can solve all 7 of those pretty cheaply. And it will all remain in your personal control.

I'm gonna be totally honest with you. I didnt really think the course of this podcast through before starting it. I got excited when I found out about Yunohost and went totally ADD thinking that people have to know about this distro!
I just hit record and started talking without thinking. I didnt put any kind of structure into it or really any kind of planning. Looking back over the last 4 episodes and the 2 videos I can see that I made some assumptions during those episodes/videos that you would know what I was talking about. So the next several episodes will be way less technical and less fan boy-ism about Yunohost. Not that it doesnt need it but more as to why you need it.

What is it? - It's a box similar to Freedombox. The idea is to have your own wifi to connect to the internet and be free, neutral and decentralized. Looks like it is a joint venture between FFDN(https://ffdn.org/en) and Yunohost

I love the artwork for this episode! And I just had to use it when I saw it. It was created by Aleks. I've also ran across a couple of memes that I cant stop laughing at. I'll be using those in future episodes as well. The cat is out of the bag and people are discovering the podcast. So if you are new, well I guess at this point everybody is new, lol. This podcast is all about my journey into hosting my own data, getting away from the big tech corp and entering the Fediverse. And let me tell you, it has been an eye opening experience. But projects such as Yunohost is making it extremely easy to embark on this journey. I have to say that they (devs and community) are some of the friendliest, kind and helpful people I have found on the internet. Let me just say that my experience into self hosting and the Fediverse has been very, very pleasant and I think that it is the future of the way we interact with each other online.

What it is
If you've ever messed with Linux you have undoubtedly experienced the dreaded (but fun) thing called "distro hopping". Where you constantly download and install tons of different distros and use them to see what they are like and how well they run. Hell you may be running 3-4 of them on a pc at any given time. Wait, what? You dont know what a distro is? Well then...
Distro aka Distribution - An operating system that is comprised of a collection of software packaged around the Linux kernel. There are many. Quite possibly thousands of distros out there. But there are some big ones that have been around for a long time that you may have heard of. Debian, Slack, Red Hat, Arch, Gentoo, etc. There are even some you may even be using currently and you dont even know it. Android is essentially a distro. The widely popluar Chromebooks and Chromeboxes run on ChromeOS which is derived from Gentoo. So now that you know what a distro is lets continue. Yunohost is a Linux distro that you can install on a vps remotely or an old desktop or laptop that is just laying around the house. It has very low system requirements so it can even be installed on something as small as a RasperryPi. Put simply it turns your old computer or a vps into your very own server just for you. It gives you an admin panel to run install/remove apps, check on network and hardware usage, download backups, etc. You dont even really have to get into a terminal if you dont want to.

Who am I?
Greetings! If this is the first time you've ever ran across me I am Unkle Bonehead and welcome to the Self Hosted Podcast, a journey into taking control of your data and entering the Fediverse. It's not only my journey but it just might be yours as well.
Why?
Because large corporations such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, etc have your data in their control. And that means they have successfully turned human beings into a product. Back when I was in high school and computers were just getting started I kept hearing over and over that "Information is the way of the future." I didnt understand it until now. The information they were talking about is you and me. Our personal data. Your personal information. They have successfully, and we have willfully let them, turn our very existance into a product that can be sold to advertisers. A phrase I hear a lot now adays is "If your not root, you dont own it." And that is more true now than ever before.
What is this podcast about?
This podcast is about getting away from all that. Getting away from being hitched at the hip to large conglomorate corporations that dont care about you or your privacy and may even want to keep your personal opinions quiet.
Where can you find it and more info?
Over the first couple of episodes I'll talk about how to go about taking back conrrol over your stuff and getting back to being root of your life. I will talk about how easy it is to host your own server, whether its on a remote vps or right in your own home. Sync your pc, phone, contact list, music, movies, ebooks, email, etc. All in your control and not in someone elses. No one sniffing your broswer history, reading your direct messages or emails just so they can show you better ads.
When can you get new episodes?
I'm going to try to publish them as weekly but some may come as early as every other day.It depends on what I may run across and how exciting it is. You can get them right here on this website and I may mirror tham on Archive.org. There is an itunes button to subscribe to the show but it isnt on it. I may, sometime in the future, decide to submit to itunes but for the immeaditate future no. If I run into problems with the download speed or some other technical issue I may use Anchor.fm as I do with my other podcasts. But I really want to keep with the self hosting scheme.
