Unlike most of us during this Covid Era, Jean, as a direct support professional, has been a first responder for those with intellectual and developmental differences in the charitable community she directs.
While the outer Lila has been different, the challenges for us as disciples to “let go and walk in Faith” are clearly relatable as Jean shares how “humbling, heart-opening, and difficult” have been the color of her experience…like most of us!
Jean’s experience necessitated digging deep into her heart with Guruji and ultimately, once again, underscored her belief that “sharing love is important, and it is a healer.” You can hear more about Jean and how she found Guruji on the Chela to Chela podcast in S3E7 “Meet Jean W.”
In this episode Jean shares how the difficulties in the outer world showed her that the only stability is the ability to “let go and have faith and allow Guruji to flow through us, and provide for us, and give us the insight and the strength we need to do what we need to do.”

Brother Anandamoyji, on one of his CD's, tells us of the three categories of disciples: The monastic, the householder, and the (seldom mentioned) single person, serving and practicing sadhana while working in the world. (Brotherji goes on to tell us that they are all the same, that we have all belonged to each of the categories, and that he has observed devotees with varying levels of commitment to the Teachings in all three categories.)
Robert, in this lifetime, has belonged to the third category. In this fast-paced episode filled with the essence of many-faceted gratitude, Robert tells us more about life at Hidden Valley and the significant role it played in his sadhana.

"Seasons of Sadhana" is an apt term that covers the life of the striving devotee, and for Alejandro each season has had a theme of finding the balance with seemingly diverse engagements. Engineer/artist, monastic/householder, sweet meditation/performing duties in the world.
We all have our own version of areas in which we struggle for balance. Sometimes it's helpful to get some objectivity by knowing we are not alone in our quest for balanced living "…being in the world, but not of it…." Inspiration to carry on sometimes comes from the support of fellowship.
One of the deeper areas of spiritual balance is Perseverance vs Rest in God, and we learn that balance is a unique blend of each perspective.
Alejandro shares some of his journey with us as he tells us about his time at the Hidden Valley Men's Retreat, the lessons the sitar brought to him, and some interesting history of the Santiago, Chile SRF Center, the history of the Spanish Autobiography of a Yogi, and a story about Yogacharya Cuaron from the time when Master was in the body.

Welcome to The Chela To Chela Podcast - Interviews and Conversations with Disciples of Paramahansa Yogananda.
In 1968 Robert was an antiquities art dealer when he met someone at an exhibition who introduced him to Yogacharya Oliver Black. Perhaps some of you have heard the story about Mr. Black and Guruji. The short truncated version is that in the early days Mr. Black did not attend the all day meditation because he didn't think he could sit that long. Finally, Master prevailed and Mr. Black came. To his surprise, Master seated him right next to him up on the stage! And during the chants when Mr. Black tried to get up, Guruji pulled him back into his seat! Mr. Black went on to be a trusted friend and helper to Guruji. You can Google his name.
So that was how Robert was introduced to Master in this lifetime. Shortly thereafter Robert made the first of 3 six-month trips to India. And that was the beginning of what came later: the multiple award-winning book "India Unveiled" featuring photos of India, it's land, customs, and people.
Robert tells of his love for India and about another unique experience he had in India which inspired him to write a second book: "Finders Keepers" for children.
Robert serves at the Atlanta SRF Temple and relates the inspiring story of how it came into manifestation. On a more personal level, Robert shared with us the inner perspective that has been his solid tether to Guruji, and what has been the two things most important to his sadhana.

Oya lives in Berlin. Born in Turkey, Oya was brought up in a Moslem family. It's particularly admirable how she respects her family's path of spirituality, truly echoing Guruji's respect for all.
Instead of getting into discussions and debates about religious values and practices, Oya has taken the peaceful approach of respecting her parents freedom to choose (and safeguarding her own freedom as well).
Her plan and effort has been to try to live life of Guruji's teachings; letting her family experience her spiritual growth as she exemplifies the values appreciated by all true religions. This is what has kept her close with her family and understanding even better the culture she was raised in." Being the change we want to see" comes to mind; it's a laudable approach and one most devotees actively aspire to.
Her story of re-connecting with Guruji in this lifetime had more than a little resistance going on but that makes it a perfect cameo of the saying "When the student is ready, the Master appears."

Sometimes being absorbed in the teachings escapes our view. Yes, we know we are dedicated and have much work to do. Yes, we love Guruji beyond words. But there comes a time when every activity, relationship, and emotion is for us an immediate fertile opportunity for spiritual growth. We are no longer trying to live a spiritual life; we are living it. For us it has become as Guruji says in Whispers From Eternity: "When I was blind, I found not a door that lead to Thee, Thou hast healed my eyes; now I discover doors everywhere…."

Welcome to The Chela to Chela Podcast. Most devotees have experienced the angst of feeling misunderstood and alone. In this episode Kirsten shares her story of how, feeling completely misunderstood by her family, she left home at a young age and found the source of her anger was not her parents; it was within herself. Internally "screaming for help," answers came in anciently familiar expanded consciousness experiences. Alone and isolated by her new understandings and experiences, her search began.
From facing and dealing with unwanted emotions, feeling extremely isolated, and being widowed soon after her marriage, to finding Master and having a life of service to Guruji's organization, Kirsten's story reminds us of Rajarsi Janakananda's statement: "What my Master's done for me."
You may relate to Kirsten's personal expression of devotion. And you might find that her working definition of introspection and "letting go" will have a twist to consider in your own sadhana. At the end of our conversation Kirsten shares an insightful, simple, and compelling perspective on "being in the world, but not of it."
