Blaðamúr is a level six evocation spell with a range of ninety feet and a duration of up to ten minutes which requires concentration to maintain.

Bladamur creates a wall of energy which is sharp to touch.  While there is not measure for sharpness, the energy from bladamur can score tempered steel. The approximate dimensions of the wall can be manipulated but the maximum volume is around ten thousand cubic feet.  That can be used to make a wall one hundred feet long, twenty feet high, and five feet thick or any combination there in.

One researcher who studied the spell dubbed it a tornado of razor blades.

If ever you find yourself being pursued and happen to have a tentacle in your pocket, you can summon a twenty square foot area of squirming, ebony tentacles which will ensnare but not crush.  When the spell ends, the appendages drift away as mist.

The spell produces a random number of tentacles from four to as much as twenty, all about three feet in length.  The prehensile strength of each is over one hundred pounds.  The one thing they lack from a living octopus are ink sacks.

Madichon is a level three necromancy spell requiring touch and concentration and has a duration of about a minute.

Madichon clouds the mind, making thoughts and speech difficult.  It has a nasty bonus of causing superficial necrotic skin damage to both the castor and the target at the place where contact is made.

Federal law prohibits this spell to be cast upon humans and there are currently twelve states including Texas and Ohio that ban all spells of this class.  Be sure to check local regulations before casting.

Koorik is a second level transmutation spell with an hour duration which requires concentration to maintain and a handful of tree bark to cast.

Koorik has an Estonian origin and is one of those spells which is more for fun than of any practical use.  It gives the target’s skin the appearance of the tree bark which the castor holds.  This would be useful for camouflage but for a few caveats.    It cannot be cast upon the self and the castor must be touching the target and maintain contact for it to work.  So, unless two people both use the spell on each other the illusion will be broken.

Exilium is a level four abjuration spell with a range of sixty feet, a duration of up to a minute, and a material requirement of a piece of spoiled food.

Exilium is used to temporarily send something or someone to what has been called the Void. Upon casting the target vanishes, leaving a vaccum in their place which cools the air as it rushes in. When the spell ends, the person is returned just as quickly but this time a rush of warm air is pushed outward and a faint popping sound can be heard. While in the void the person is in stasis, unconscious and unchanged. Scientists have studied the Void with probes but found there to be no light, no sound, and no measurable temperature nor pressure. It should be noted that due to the laws of thermodynamics and conservation of momentum, should a person be sent to the void, say while in a moving car, they will exit the void at the same speed, direction, and location but the car will have moved on. For this reason, exilium is illegal to use while moving except in an emergency.

The Navy authorized the use of exilium for ejecting pilots in 1940, but the spell has a more common use in the sanitation industry. Since the spell consumes what is in essence garbage, worker’s across the country use it to send objects in and out of the Void thousands of times a day to reduce waste. The object, called a gopher, varies from place to place but is usually a ball signed by all who use it.

Mea esebon is a level five abjuration spell with a minute duration that is cast upon the self.

The next time you want to add some strength to your swing, cast mea esebon. The spell provides an approximately twenty percent increase of force towards the next thing you touch either directly by the hand or indirectly by a tool already in hand.

If you wish to drive a nail with a hammer in one blow mea esebon will aid you. However, that task can become tedious as the spell would need to be cast for every strike. The spell is most commonly used in the construction and demolition industries.

Boa burbulla is a fourth level abjuration spell that is cast upon the self and lasts for up to ten minutes and requires concentration to maintain.

The discovery of boa burbulla gave a solid defense against the radiation of dark energy as it produces a nullifying effect at a radius of thirty feet from the castor.  The energy field moves with you and is centered around the wand.  It causes no other effect than to protect against possible necrotic damage.

As with most spells concerned with dark energy, this one has little use outside of a battlefield.  Today it is strictly used as a protection for researchers studying the mysterious radiation.

Evulekile is believed to have been discovered in Africa upon the Zulu people. It is a ninth level necromancy spell which requires an hour to cast and a range of ten feet. The spell does have a high cost, consuming both one hundred grams of gold and ten grams of silver. In today’s money that is over four thousand US dollars.

Before you judge this spell’s material requirement to be outlandish, first consider how powerful it is.

Evulekile allows you and up to eight willing people within range to have your minds enter the astral plane. The easiest way to understand this state is to think of yourself as a ghost now able to move through the world unbidden by physics. You may fly across the globe or through it for that matter at the speed of thought. The only limits to you in the astral plane would be a barrier to magical energy such as the one created by tuhinga Magi and an inability to interact with anything that is seen.

While in the astral plane, you will see a silver cord that flows back to your physical body acting as a tether. Should this cord somehow be cut death is instant.

The spell ends when you actively dismiss it. You do not need to return to your body before doing so.

Special measures should be taken to protect your physical body while in the astral plane as you will be numb to its condition.

The use of this spell for surveillance has been well documented in de-classified documents for decades. But evulekile is invaluable for studies in geology and astronomy.

There are currently twelve states including Texas and Ohio that ban all spell of this class. Be sure to check local regulations before casting.

Gonosz polip is a first level conjuration spell cast upon the self with an instant casting time and duration.

This spell with a Hungarian origin taps into dark energy releasing powerful tendrils around the castor for ten feet. Anything within this radius will develop various forms of necrosis much like what occurs after frostbite or when bitten by a brown recluse spider. The radiation emitted from the release of dark energy causes death on a cellular level usually no deeper than the epidermis of the skin.

Conventional treatment of the damage requires minor surgery to remove the dead tissue; a procedure called debridement.

Gonosz polip is currently banned in all state but Colorado and Illinois.

The spell of the day is animagi spelled A-N-I-M-A-G-I. Animagi is an eighth level transmutation spell with an instant casting time, a range of thirty feet, and a duration that lasts if the castor can maintain both concentration and visual contact.

Animagi allows you to transform others into beasts of any size while maintaining their own minds. This spell is useful when you need to give a friend the strength of an ox or the stealth of a cat. Be careful though as the person receiving the benefits of the spell may wish to disrobe before transforming as clothing is unaffected. Should a large creature be the goal, a few burst seams may be an unexpected result.

The use of animagi was often used on the battlefield to turn an enemy combatant into a much smaller creature which could be easily caught or dispatched. This practice was eventually outlawed with the acceptance of international humanitarian law.

As with all transmutation spells, permission must be given by all parties involved before casting.

Fronstpansler is a first level abjuration spell with an hour duration and can only be cast on the self. About eight fluid ounces of water are need for the spell.

This spell of Norwegian origin places a field around the castor of frozen air measured at seventy-two degrees Kelvin or negative three-hundred-thirty Fahrenheit. The spell does not provide any magical nor conventional protection per say, it only forms a layer of very cold air. The castor does not feel the cold even when touching oneself but if someone else touches them, they could suffer frostbite.

Should someone jump into water with this spell active, a layer of ice will continue to form around them. Once the spell ends, they will be locked into a thick shell of ice. Should you fall into water, it is advised to dispel frostpansler immediately.

One of the best uses of frostpansler was in Finland during the Winter War. The massive Russian army invaded Finland in 1939 and for two months the small Finnish army with the use of frostpansler held back the invading force which was over twice as large.

Today frostpansler is used by workers in the transportation industry to aid in keeping food stuffs from thawing.

Valse wolk is a level two illusion and contact spell with a day long duration. It requires a small piece of silk to be cast.

Any object or creature can either be made to look magical or have its magical nature hidden. While the spell does not change appearance, it can be useful when something or someone needs to be hidden. An interesting note, if valse wolk is cast on an item or person for thirty consecutive days, the illusion will last until dispelled.

During the second world war, many magical items were secreted away from invading German soldiers by way of valse wolk. As an added level of security people would use the spell to make common items appear magical and poorly hide them as red herrings.

Today, there isn’t much use for valse wolk save for the occasional teenager trying to hide something from concerned parents.

Loka malosi is a second level abjuration spell with an instant casting time and an infinite duration. To be cast the castor must be in contact with the item they wish to enchant.

If you ever want to lock something and rest easy knowing it will never be opened until you choose, then this spell is for you. However, be ready to dig deep into your pocket book. The material needed is two and a half grams of pure gold which is consumed by the spell. As of today, that is one hundred and two dollars.

As you may have guessed from the cost, loka malosi is not a commonly used spell. According to record, the spell was used only thirty-two times in the United States in 2019. The reason for avoiding the spell is not only the cost but also the security. For example, the spell can most certainly seize the locking mechanism of a door from working but it won’t prevent someone from removing the door from its hinges or simply cutting through the door itself. With more secure and cost-effective options today, loka malosi has fallen by the wayside.

Paka pantasma is a level five evocation spell with an instant casting time, a range of one hundred twenty feet, and a duration of one minute. The materials required are an egg shell and a snakeskin glove, the former of which is consumed by the spell. The spell requires concentration to maintain.

Paka pantasma creates a floating hand which matches the size, shape, and strenghth of the castor. The hand is visible and solid which can be dispelled if struck with four thousand newtons of force or about nine hundred pounds. The spell will also fail if the hand is exposed to eighty degrees Celsius for more than five seconds.

Don’t get paka pantasma confused with a similar spell, pomicati. Both can be used to move objects and both are limited to the strength of the castor, but pomicati produces equal force around an entire object, while paka pantasma places force exactly as a hand would. This spell is useful when more intricate work is needed or when your work needs to be more visual. It also gives tactile feedback when touching.

Portal is a level six conjuration spell with an instant cast time, a range of five hundred feet and a duration of up to ten minutes. The spell requires concentration to maintain.

While portal is a common word in the vernacular, it was not discovered as a spell until the fourteenth century. It opens two circular gates, five feet in diameter, one near the castor, the other up to five hundred feet away. The gates are always perpendicular to the Earth and can only be created in empty space and must be in visual range of the castor.

The physics of the gates are quite interesting. They are two dimensional and open by fading from a mist, not like an iris as depicted in science fiction. They hover a few inches from the either the Earth or a grounded structure such as a building. One can only enter them from one side and from the obverse they appear as mist and are solid. Should a force of approximately six hundred pounds be placed on the obverse, the spell will fail. Once cast, the castor can rotate the gate horizontally. When the gates close, they fade away. Should an object be in the gate as they close, whichever side has the most mass is where the object will remain.

You would think that a spell such as portal would make security a problem with people having the ability to circumnavigate checkpoints. But, since every wand holds a perfect, unalterable record of every use, the yearly registration along with hefty fines for trespassing, helps to keep people honest.

Occularis proxima is a fourth level divination spell with an instant casting time, a range of thirty feet, and a duration of about an hour. The spell requires a small patch of bat fur which is not consumed during the spell. The spell does require concentration to maintain.

Occularis proxima creates an invisible eye, about one inch in diameter, that hovers and can be moved within thirty feet of the caster. The eye has normal vision and cannot pass through other objects.

This spell is most prevalently used among the visually impaired but it has also found itself in the tool box of engineers whose job is visual inspection. While occularis proxima does grant the blind a way to see, it does not grant them all the rights of the sighted. The transportation safety board does grant the blind drivers’ licenses because the concentration needed to maintain the spell, by definition, causes distracted driving.

Talitha cumi is a sixth level evocation with an instant casting time and a range of touch. Talitha cumi is the most potent know healing spell. With a single cast, it will sweep through the body, mending every broken bone, closing every wound, reconstruct blood vessels, and remove the disease. It can also cure blindness, deafness, and paralysis, but only if those ailments stem from an injury; the spell can not alter genetic conditions. While this spell sounds like the ultimate aid in wellness, it does have substantial drawbacks. Talitha cumi rids the body of all bacteria, including helpful gut flora as well as any antibodies. This makes the recipient susceptible to every disease as previous inoculations are removed. Those who receive today's spell as a treatment must go through a series of new innoculations and an often painful period of quarantine to rebuild immunity.

Talitha cumi has a further cost. Researchers estimate that recipients lifespans reduce by 30 to 50 percent. No recipient over the age of 60 has lived more than five years after treatment. The most prolonged period after treatment for a recipient is 30 years. Floyd Lawson of South Carolina received the spell after he was struck by a car at the age of five. His injuries were beyond mundane medicine, so his parents requested the spell me used. Mr. Lawson died at the age of thirty-five from cardiac arrest.

Further study continues on this spell discovered in Ohio in 1976.

Today’s spell is Tuhinga Magi spelled as two words T U H I N G A M A G I. Tuhinga Magi is a level eight abjuration spell with an instant casting time, a maximum duration of an hour, and can only be cast upon the self. This spell requires concentration to maintain and a pinch of iron filings as material which will be consumed during the spell.

Tuhinga Magi places a ten foot sphere around the caster. Within this sphere all magical energy is nullified. No spells can be cast and those that have been are suppressed for the duration. The sphere does not end a spell, it only stops it’s effects while in the sphere. The spell cannot work against itself so should it encounter another sphere, the two would join, making a larger non-magic area. On the other side of the sphere, no magical items may enter, and enchanted items will have their abilities suppressed. The sphere created by Tuhinga Magi is moble and moves with the caster. Should you attempt to walk through a portal, the sphere will force the portal closed.

Tuhinga Magi is considered the most powerful magical defense spell. It doesn’t, however, provide any protection against non-magical items.

If you’ve traveled through an airport since 2001, you’ve walked through a tuhinga magi sphere. To aid the TSA with keeping air travel secure, agents have been quietly suppressing magical energy while you walk shoeless through the metal detectors. A lesser known use of the spell is during sporting events to prevent magic from altering performance.

Seta Utan is a level three necromancy spell with a minute casting time, a range of ten feet, and a duration of one day. This spell requires a drop of living blood, which will be consumed during the spell, and it may only be cast on a target once as subsequent attempts will result in unreliable results.

This spell allows you to animate a dead creature with only enough brain function to walk, and even then, at a very slow pace. Also, this spell only really works on a creature who has recently expired due to quickly deteriorating muscles and brain.

Seta Utan is a spell with a far eastern origin where pack animals were vital to the local economy. Should an animal die on a long journey, the goods it carried would have to be left behind. With the discovery of this spell, a driver would be able to at least get to the next village where a suitable replacement could be purchased.

Federal law prohibits this spell to be cast upon humans and there are currently twelve states including Texas and Ohio that ban all spells of this class. Be sure to check local regulations before casting.

Today’s spell is Amianamus spelled A-M-I-A-N-A-M-U-S. Amianamus is a level one enchantment spell with an instant casting time, a range of thirty feet, and a duration of one day. The spell has a material requirement of a food the animal must eat for the enchantment to take effect. Amianamus lets you convince an animal that you are not a threat. The spell will be broken however if the animal is harmed in any way.

Skill must be employed to reap the benefits of this spell. Since an animal is unlikely to eat after it has been threatened, the caster must first anticipate it’s behavior. Take care too that you feed an aggressive animal a second enchanted morsel before the first fades so to keep it under your spell.

Take note that the one-day duration begins once the spell is cast, not when the animal eats the enchanted food.

Amianamus is believed to be one of the oldest known spells and one of the most popular, being used to gain the trust of animals for centuries.

Today’s spell is Wonimaohw spelled W-O-N-I-M-A-O-H-W. Wonimaohw is a level two transmutation spell with an instant casting time and a duration of one hour. This spell may only be cast upon the self as it is used to alter the appearance, but unlike a glamor spell which only appears to make a change, this spell’s alterations are very real. There are three options for this spell which are chosen mentally when cast. The first is to alter the appearance which includes height, weight, facial features, voice, hair length and colorations and any distinguishing characteristics. The second option is aquatic adaptation where the body is altered for an aquatic environment by sprouting gills and growing webbing between the fingers and toes. The final option is to produce natural weapons like claws, fangs, spines and horns.

As you may have guessed by the sound of the spell, it is of native american origin most notably of the Shawnee tribe of Kentucky.

Wonimaohw is a favorite among children playing dress up and those whose jobs often find them in the water. While this spell sounds like it would be very powerful for deception, it is only as effective at mimicry as the person casting. But, even then, the task of resculpting the body to match every contour and subtle color of another is a monumental challenge that even the most skilled find difficult.

Poplach is a level one abjuration spell with a casting time of one minute, a range of thirty feet, and a duration of eight hours.  This spell has a material requirement of a bell or chime.   Poplach is used to guard against intrusion.  The caster chooses a door, window, or other way of entry and when the barrier is breached the bell or chime used as the material will sound.  While the spell must be cast within thirty feet of the point of entry, the caster may then move up to a mile away and still be alerted.  The spell does not consume the casting material and it may be reused.

Poplach has its origins in Eastern Europe where it was first used to guard religious relics.  Today, it has similar uses at financial institutions but also more pedestrian applications such as for parents wanting to keep tabs on a wandering child.

The spell for the day is Fanampiana spelled F-A-N-A-M-P-I-A-N-A. Fanampiana is a level two abjuration spell with an instant casting time, a range of thirty feet, and a duration of eight hours. This spell has a material requirement ranging from latex to steel. Fanampiana is used to bolster the cutting resistance of the skin and is approved for use by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA. The level of resistance the spell offers is proportional to the type of casting material used. To protect oneself from nuisance cuts such as from handling paper, a one inch square of latex will suffice. However, for more industrial applications such as handleling heavy metal or glass, a steel coin can be used. For maximum protection, diamonds can be used as the casting material but doing so is highly cost prohibitive. The spell is OSHA approved due to its solid duration time. Unlike some spells that fade over time, fanampiana provides a consistent level of protections for a full eight hours then quickly dissipates.

The spell for the day is Kiselina Musev spelled with two words K-i-S-E-L-I-N-A M-U-S-E-V. Kiselina Musev is a level two conjuration spell with an instant casting time and a range of ninety feet. This spell has a material requirement of a small rhubarb leaf. After casting, an illuminated green arrow flies from the wand toward the target. Upon impact the arrow bursts into a spray of acid which is highly corrosive to flesh and metal but does not affect glass nor the Earth itself. Should the arrow miss it’s target and hit the ground, it simply returns to the ether without a release of acid. If there is an acid burst, it quickly dissipates and cannot be stored.

Kiselina Musev has been around since ancient times with its first historical reference by Galen the Elder in twenty-three A.D.

The use of this spell as a weapon is well documented throughout history but today, this spell is mostly used in the commercial industry as a cleaning agent, catalyst, electrolyte, and in the home as a drain cleaner.

His tevli bibin is a fifth level divination with a range of thirty feet, a duration of an hour, and a material requirement of a piece of eggshell.

His tevli bibin allows two people to create a telepathic link.  Each person casts the spell on the other, and their thoughts begin to meld.  The use of the spell with a new person is often overwhelming, causing headaches and nausea.  With meditation and practice, two people can share any thoughts in their conscious mind.

Today’s spell is ancient, discovered in what is now Iraq around three thousand BC.  Kings would share the spell with their prophets for dream interpretation and force spies into sharing their secrets.  In 1924, the spell was banned from Olympic competition as judges felt it altered the essence of pairs figure skating.

A darker use of the spell began as false prophets would claim to be able to see the future by sharing the spell with someone for a fee.  They would then probe the person for financial information while at the same time implanting visions and thoughts in the victim's mind.  The practice mostly preyed on lower-income, less-educated populations.  In the last few years, this practice has had a resurgence in South Africa, with legislators struggling to stop it while still allowing for religious freedom.

Ruch Umyslu is a fifth level Transmutation with a range of sixty feet, a duration of up to ten minutes, and requires concentration to maintain.

Ruch Umyslu allows one to move an object without touching it.  Items can be lifted and moved toward or away from the castor within the area of influence. There is a limit to what can be moved because this spell has a substantial mechanical disadvantage. First, a person will be limited to lifting an item within their mundane abilities.   Second, the greater the distance, the heavier the object will feel.  For example, a one-pound weight will feel like one hundred and twenty pounds when it is ten feet away.  At the maximum distance of sixty feet, the same weight will feel like seven hundred and twenty pounds.

Discovered in Poland in 1914, ruch umlyslu has never grown to be more than a novelty.

Lux mundi is an evocation of the sixth level, with a range of self, a duration of a minute, requires concentration to maintain, and a material requirement of a transparent sphere like a glass or crystal marble.

Lux mundi opens a type of portal upon the palm of the hands which acts as a window through the earth.  Constellations and the moon are visible by looking through the hands.  If angled correctly, sunlight will flow out of the palms.

Discovered in 1882 in New Jersey by Edwin Scribner, Lux mundi could have changed the world forever.  The industrial revolution ended around 1840, having brought the light bulb into existence.  If today’s spell had been discovered earlier many historians feel America’s technological advancement may have been delayed due to complacency.

Today, Lux mundi is limited to use outside of metropolitan areas and at least five miles from airports.

Gewitterwolke is a ninth level conjuration with a range of sight, a duration of a minute, and requires concentration to maintain.

Gewitterwolke causes the rapid formation of a cumulonimbus cloud above the open ground.  Below the cloud, in a radius of about three hundred and sixty feet, rain may fall, and the wind will blow.  If a second instance of the spell is cast before the first ends, the ph of the rain lowers to about 3.5, which is less acidic than vinegar.  After a third instance, lightning increases significantly.  After a fourth casting, hail begins to fall as large as a golf ball.  The fifth casting will produce freezing rain and winds up to fifty miles per hour, making concentration difficult.  When the spell ends, all water and hail produced fades into mist.

Gewitterwolke was discovered in Germany in 1891.  Since then, nations around the globe have tried to make the spell viable for irrigation.  Australia worked extensively from 1947 to the 1960s, and the United States held an experiment as recently as 2006 in Wyoming to examine the effects on snowfall.  The most massive experiment ever conducted was in February 2009 in China.  With a mix of technology and magic, snow began to fall in Bejing and lasted for approximately three days and led to the closure of twelve main roads.  Later, in October, China recorded its earliest snowfall since 1987.

The most common use of the spell is in the aviation and maritime training industries.

Kevlarbydupont is a fourth level abjuration with a range of touch, a duration of an hour, requires concentration to maintain, and has a material requirement of a pinch of diamond power which the spell consumes.  However, synthetic powder works just as well with less cost.

Kevlarbydupont makes the flesh of a living creature resistant to cutting and piercing while still being sensitive and flexible.

Discovered in 1965 in Delaware by Stephanie Kwolek, the spell has become a staple in manufacturing and law enforcement.  When used with the spell Aakasmikata (uh-cause-mit-kuh), today’s spell will activate the instant the skin is touched.  Kevarbydupont is fast enough to stop a bullet and save a saw operator from losing a finger.

Researches found that the spell is slightly less effective when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet light, but the effect is not noticeable.  The spell does not protect against heat, and should the skin be exposed to a temperature above 350 degrees, the spell will fail.

If you watch the whitewater slalom event during the Summer Olympics, you will see each athlete cast Kevlarbydupont as it has been a safety requirement since the readoption of the sport in 1992.

Malodor is a third level conjuration with a range of 90 feet, a duration of up to a minute, requires concentration to maintain, and has a material requirement of varying amounts of sulfur.

Malodor creates a 20-foot-radius sphere of noxious, foul-smelling gas.  The more sulfur offered for the spell, the more powerful the stench.  The legal limit for unregistered use is less than a gram, but just a pinch can make the spell thoroughly nauseating.  Once the spell ends, the cloud dissipates, but the smell remains and can persist for days.

The United States Army classified the exact origin of the spell.  But, it has been around since at least World War II.  Law enforcement uses Malodor for riot control and as an area denial weapon.  During the Christmas season, county administrators in the northeastern United States will sometimes use Malodor on public-property evergreens to discourage poachers. The most common use of the spell is to test the effectiveness of bathroom deodorizers.

Schleppend is an enchantment of the third level with a range of one-hundred-twenty feet and a duration of about four minutes.

Schleppend nearly quadruples the processing speed of the brain, allowing one to think and calculate at a super-human rate. However, there is a drawback; the perceived world slows down to quarter speed. People have reported feeling trapped in their bodies as they feel they are moving in slow motion. The spell lasts fully for two minutes, then fades over the next two. But for one under its influence, the experience seems to last for fifteen minutes.

Schleppend was discovered in Germany by independent researchers Friedrich Stolz and Henry Drysdale Dakin in 1904. Even though another independent researcher in Japan, Jokichi Takamine, made the discovery four years earlier, the Germans were the first to file the discovery with their local magical authority, and thus they received the credit.

On the morning of January 15, 2009, US Airways flight 1549 took off from LaGuardia airport in New York City. A few seconds later, both engines became disabled by a flock of Canadian geese. No commercial aircraft had ever lost both engines so soon after take-off, and no pilot had been trained for such an extreme event. Forty-nine-year-old, First officer Jeffrey B. Skiles, cast Schleppend upon himself so that he could work through the problem more quickly. His calculations determined that the aircraft would not be able to land at any nearby airport. He relayed his conclusion to lead pilot, Chesley B. Sullenberger, who skillfully crash-landed the plane into the Hudson River, saving the lives of everyone on board.

Hearme is a third level evocation with an unlimited range and a material requirement of a quarter gram of copper.

This spell allows the castor to send a short message of around twenty-five words to any one person, anywhere on Earth.  The receiver will hear the sender's voice as if they were a few feet away yet it is unperceivable to anyone else.

Hearme was discovered in San Francisco on March 21, 2006.  This time was the beginning of the tech boom when millions of people were opening social media accounts.  The ease of sending instant messages online made Hearme obsolete before it’s first use.  Plus, the cost of copper would make each message cost about fifteen cents at the time.  An interesting note is that mobile phone companies lowered their text message rates to undercut any competition this spell would have offered.

Hearme is mostly used in developing regions by those who do not have access to mobile technology.

One drawback of Hearme is that the receiver of the message has no control overhearing the spoken words.  In the same year of its discovery, the FCC amended the Telephone Consumer Protection Act to include unsolicited uses of Hearme.  Local offices of the Department of Magical Affairs have equipment and personnel trained to track the source of the spell to protect anyone who may feel they are being harassed.

Reparacio is an entry level transmutation with a minute casting time, a range of touch, and a material requirement of two lodestones.

Reparacio mends an item with a break or tear no longer than ten inches.  The spell works on non-organic material leaving no trace of a rip or fracture.

Discovered in Spain in 1930, Reparacio gained fame in 2012 when it was erroneously used to restore a painting in the Sanctuary of Mercy church in Borja, Spain.  An elderly parishioner took it upon herself to restore a fresco on the church wall.  The original paint used had a high amount of organic material and did not respond well to the energy of the spell.  The plaster wall was renewed but the paint shifted color and position.  The painting, originally of a man, took on the appearance of a monkey.  At first, the act was seen as vandalism but became an internet sensation.  By 2016, the number of tourists visiting the town had increased from 6,000 to 57,000 a year.  In addition to spending money with local businesses, visitors have donated some €50,000 to the church. The money has been used to employ additional attendants at the church and to fund a retirement home.

Abug is a second level evocation with a minute duration, a material requirement of a legume seed, and requires concentration to maintain.

Upon casting, a strong blast of wind flows from anterior surface of the body.  The continuous airflow has been measured at over eleven thousand cubic feet per minute.  The castor will feel the negative pressure of the wind, but the force is slight.  Don’t get the impression that abug can be used to unleash your own tornado.  The airflow produced is only as strong as a powerful fan.

Ventilation is an obvious use of abug.  Another is to turn yourself into an economical and green leaf blower!  With some practice fallen leaves and grass clippings can be efficiently gathered.  Another novel use of abug is during the pre-flight phase of a hot-air balloon.  Before the heated gases that give a balloon lift are injected, cool air must be used to increase the interior volume.  A pilot standing at the mouth of a balloon can complete the job with ease.

Cadarnle is a sixth level abjuration with a ten-minute casting time, a duration of twenty-four hours, and a list of material requirements, which include burning incense, brimstone, oil, blood, and silver.

Cadarnle is used to make a house or small building into a stronghold.  Outer locks are magically secured, windows and doors are covered with an illusion to make them appear as plain sections of wall.  If someone can enter, another illusion makes the interior heavily obscured with thick fog.  The magnetic field inside is scrambled, confusing any sense of direction.  For an intruder, the floor becomes highly adhesive, making walking nearly impossible.

In 2010, the Prince of Wales made a stir when he invited members of the press to Highgrove, his home in Gloucesershire.  He spoke of his extensive training of cadarnle and how, at any time, he has enough provisions to last a fortnight.  In 2004, he made similar statements about his London residence. But the royal does not rely on magic alone.  The home also has a steel-reinforced safe area with a telephone with a direct link to royal protection police stationed elsewhere in the building.

Here in the United States citizens can use cadarnle freely.  If, however, the spell is used during the commission of a crime, the penalty is a felony.

Chekinai is a first level conjuration with a range of sixty feet, a duration of one minute, and a material requirement of a few ounces of oil or grease.

Upon casting, the ground within a ten-foot radius circle becomes exceptionally slick.  The molecular adhesion of the surface material breaks down causing the coefficient of friction to drop to nearly zero.  Even coarse material such as concrete or sand will become smoother than polished ice.

Chekinai is a newly discovered spell from 2015 out of the Institute of Magic in Canada.

Chekinai is a useful aid in moving large pieces of machinery across factory floors and positioning aircraft at passenger gates.

During the 2015/2016 season, The World Curling Federation temporarily banned the spell, and subsequently made drastic changes to its regulations to address a growing concern among players.  It’s not that the players are opposed to magic in general; they’re just worried the spell is altering the fundamentals of the sport in troubling ways by drastically reducing the level of skill required.  As of today, the spell is banned from the sport.

Sårbarhet världen is a sixth level abjuration that is cast upon the self with an instant casting time, a one-minute duration, and a material requirement of a crystal bead which is consumed by the spell.  This spell does require concentration to maintain.

Upon casting, a ten-foot radius sphere surrounds the castor which is transparent but shimmers like the surface of a soap bubble.  The sphere creates a magical barrier that blocks any 5th level spell or lower.  It also shields from radiation including heat.

The spell is often employed by firefighters when temperatures may suddenly raise beyond the limits of their equipment.  The major drawback of the spell is that the sphere created is immobile.  So, the spell is only used as a last resort.

A high concentration of recorded use of Sårbarhet världen occurred during 2016 in Russia.  A new safe containment shield was constructed over the ruins of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor and workers used today’s spell as a shield from the still deadly radiation.

Poisk loshadey is a second level divination with a casting time of ten minutes, a range of three miles, and a material requirement of a horse hair and some standing water.

This spell can locate the nearest horse, within range, matching the type of hair used.  The hair must be atuned for ten minutes, then cast onto the surface of water where it will act as a compass with the root end as the pointer.  The hair will retain its pointing ability indefinetly and can be used repeatedly.

Poisk loshadey was discovered in Russia in the late eighteenth century but has had little recorded use in the twenty-first.  Modern identification devices are much more precise and efficient for finding a desired steed or mare.

During the expansion of the American west, lawmen would covertly remove a hair from the horse of an unknown traveler, just in case they needed to be tracked after the commission of a crime.

Zachovat is a second level necromancy spell with a range of touch, a duration of ten days, and a material requirement of a pinch of salt.

Zachovat stops the rate of decay of once-living things for the duration of the spell. You may be surprised to hear that a spell from the necromancy class would be used to stop decay since they more often than not cause it. But, a closer examination of the process reveals the truth. Zachovat focuses dark energy to render cellular proteins unable to be consumed by bacteria, thus preventing overall rot.

Zachovat was discovered in 1878 in Bohemia, which is now the Czech Republic. It was used to prepare bodies for funerals and to keep butchered meats preserved. Studies in 1990 found that the altered cellular proteins had a 72% chance of becoming cancerous. The food industry immediately ceased using the spell, and over the next decade it was phased out of the mortuary industry. Unfortunately, millions of buried bodies have entered the groundwater, which has affected the water cycle. As a result, the harmful agent content in precipitation can range from 110 to 1380 micrograms per liter. The carbon in the zachovat-affected molecule bonds with nitrogen groups in plant and animal tissue, which causes dysfuntion in proteins and DNA. Further study is needed into the long term effects.

A side note, Séta Után (sh-ay-tah oo-tan), a spell used to reanimate recently deceased animals, will not work on a creature if zachovat has previously been cast.

Miduma vlakulu is a first-level conjuration with a range of one hundred twenty feet, a duration of up to an hour, and requires concentration to maintain.

This spell creates a twenty-foot radius sphere in which the barometric pressure increases until the dew point matches the ambient temperature.  This process will raise the humidity and saturate the air causing dense fog.  The sphere will dissipate if subjected to winds greater than ten miles per hour.

Miduma Vlakulu was discovered in Sri Lanka in 1972.  Medical doctors immediately found the spell useful in humidity therapy, where it aids in numerous respiratory care modalities.  Mechanical engineers also find the spell helpful in testing the durability of instrumentation used in the marine and aviation industries.

The spell made headlines in 2005 when it was used in Brazil during a bank heist.  The robbers cast multiple spheres of miduma vlakulu in the bank and used infrared goggles to see.  Witnesses were unable to give descriptions and security cameras recorded nothing but a white haze.  The bandits would have gotten away with the crime had one of them not tried to purchase three cars with cash the next day.  All four were eventually arrested and sentenced.

Tha sa a nte t is an entry level conjuration, with a range of thirty feet, a duration of an hour, and a material requirement of a drop of mercury.

This spell creates a circular disk, three feet in diameter and one inch thick that floats three feet above the ground.  The disk can hold up to three hundred pounds.  If any additional weight is added, the spell with fail.   The metal plate is unmovable unless the ground beneath it is removed or the castor moves ten feet away then the disk will follow.

The disk will continue to follow the castor over uneven ground and even up stairs but is limited to a height differential of six feet or less.  For example, if the castor jumps over a seven foot deep ditch, the disk will not continue.

Turning sharp corners is also a challenge.  The castor must walk past the corner until the disk is in position, then walk back to the disk to make the turn and continue.

Tha sa a nte t has a discovery date of 1883 in Cambodia.  The spell has been used to evacuate the wounded in the first world war and is still used as a transportation aid around the world.

Researches have not discovered how exactly the disk is able to float but the hypothesis is that dark energy repels the force of gravity like similar polls of a magnet.

The television and film industry widly use tha sa a nte t as the disk creates a stable, perfectly level platform on which to mount a camera.  Before the invention of the steady-cam harness, a little more than movie magic was used to create smooth tracking shots down stairs and across uneven ground

Itburnsus is a third level evocation, with a range of one-hundred-fifty feet, an instant casting time and duration, and requires a few grams of sulfur to cast.

Itburnsus projects a golf-ball-sized flaming orb from the wand. The sphere releases a burst of super-heated air upon impact. The initial temperature is approximately four-hundred-seventy Fahrenheit. The rush of gas has been measured as high as eight-hundred degrees. The burst lasts only an instant, but it is hot enough to ignite flammable materials. Before impact, the small conflagration is vulnerable to being extinguished if doused with water or suffocated by chemical or conventional means.

This spell has been in use since ancient times as an ignition source and offensive weapon. It is said to have been discovered by by Kallinikos of Heliopolis, probably about the year 673. Used primarily at sea, the spell gave the Byzantines a substantial military advantage against enemies such as members of the Arab Empire. An 11th-century illustration of its use survives in the John Skylitzes manuscript. Itburnsus has been used in every American conflict except the Civil War where both sides agreed to avoid potential collateral damage.

Itburnsus is not restricted by federal law and it is legal for use in a forty-eight states except for California and Maryland.

Vermingone is a level five conjuration with a range of one hundred twenty feet, a duration of ten minutes, and requires concentration to maintain.

Vermingone creates a twenty-foot radius sphere of poisonous gas.  The gas is yellow-green and heavier than air, which entirely dissipates at the end of the duration.  It is a pulmonary irritant which causes acute damage in the respiratory tract.  The gas itself is harmless, but when it comes in contact with water, it becomes highly acidic.  Immediate exposure will cause blurred vision, burning pain and blisters on exposed skin, and difficulty breathing.  A long enough exposure may cause pulmonary edema.

On April 22, 1915, German soldiers used vermingone on the front lines of a battle, killing a hundred French troops.  The allies of the war responded in kind.  The horrific results of vermingone in warfare have spurred the drafting of various treaties signed since the end of the first world war.

These adverse health effects should not scare you away from the benefits of the spell.  The Department of Agriculture approves its use as a pesticide and for water treatment.  Vermingone is a controlled spell and requires a license for use.

Auka getu is a second level transmutation with an instant casting time, a duration of an hour, a range of touch, and a material requirement of animal hair.

This spell works with either the hair of a bear or bull.  If bull hair is the casting material, the target receives enhanced strength.  The fur of a bear brings extended endurance.

For example, a person can normally bench press one-hundred pounds, ten times before exhaustion.  With the gift of the bear, they could lift the same weight twice as many times.  The power of the bull would allow them to raise twice the mass with the same repetitions.  Research has found the spell ineffective with any other animal hair or bird feather.

The physiological effects are localized to the muscle fibers and do not affect the bones.  Athletes with more than above average muscle mass should take caution with this spell as they could cause a muscle to tear away from attachments or the added weight could crush bones.

Auka getu is illegal for professional athletes.  Most sporting events are covered in anti-magic spheres to prevent cheating.  But there is one sporting event which is too large to covers with anti-magic as it spans over two-thousand miles, the Tour de France.  In 2012, after the discovery that auka getu had been used extensively by his coaches, Lance Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles.

The most common use of auka getu is in entry-level jobs requiring manual labor.

Trova il percorso is a sixth level divination which is cast upon the self, with a casting time of one minute, a duration of one day, a material requirement of a ferrous material such as iron or steel, and requires concentration to maintain.

This spell allows one to become sensitive to magnetic fields, most notably, that of the Earth.  With practice, one can feel the direction of magnetism and follow it for navigation.  This skill is also useful for treasure hunters, and surveyors as metallic objects disrupt the flow of natural magnetic lines.  Caution must be taken to not cast trova il percorso near unnaturally strong magnetic fields such as found in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine or MRI.  Doing so will cause an instant migraine and in some cases, unconsciousness.

Trova il percorso was discovered in Italy in 1874 and immediately became useful in locating bullets and shrapnel from human patients.  Masters of the spell can use it to find specific ores and metals such as gold and silver.  Grandmaster Dr. Gerhard Fischer of Landshut, Germany is so attuned to magnetic fields that he can sense a grain of gold from a distance of one thousand feet.

Yukidaruma is a first level evocation with an instant casting time, a thirty-minute duration, and a material requirement of an amount of water which is consumed by the spell.

This spell produces a perfectly round snowball in the palm which is proportionate to the hand.  The snowball, when created, is about zero degrees Fahrenheit but the castor feels no cold when holding it.  Once the snowball leaves the hand, another appears.  The ratio at which the spell consumes the required water is ten to one.  One cup of water can produce ten cups of snow.  The number of snowballs is dependant on the size of the castor's hand. Generally, children can create twice as many snowballs as adults given the same amount of water, but an adult's snowball will be twice as large as a child's.

Yukidaruma was discovered in Japan in 1804 and revolutionized the food and trade industry by allowing meat, milk, and fruit to remain fresh longer.  The use of the spell dwindled with the invention of the refrigerator but it is still widely used.  Today, on Christmas Day, we at DOMA hope you will enjoy this spell with your family and friends.

Cú dílis is a fourth level conjuration with an instant casting time, a duration of eight hours, a range of thirty feet, and a material requirement of a silver whistle and piece of bone.

Cú dílis opens a door to the ethereal plane which allows a spectral creature to pass through.  The beast is only visible to the caster and remains within thirty feet of where it entered.  The animal can see that which is invisible, and if anyone other than the castor approaches, it will bellow an alarm. If the castor blows the whistle, the beast will attack everyone within thirty feet.   The animal will dispel if the castor moves more than one hundred feet away or when dismissed.

The beings summoned by cú dílis are animal-like and vary in size but are all ferocious when provoked.  They are not friendly as they do not tend to interact with the castor and never seem to be at ease.  The creatures will permit the castor to approach and touch them but show no affection.

Cú dílis is used by the military as an invaluable defense.  The use of the spell by civilians has been banned due to the unseen danger posed to those unaware of the conjured beast’s presence.

Api peri is a first-level evocation with an instant casting time, a duration of a minute, a range of sixty feet, and requires concentration to maintain.

This spell is one of only a few to come out of Indonesia.  It concentrates and focuses cosmic rays toward a target.  Upon inanimate objects and plants, it is ineffectual.  But, within the vision of living creatures, a dazzling light show is produced.  Bright sparkles obscure the vision and are visible even with the eyes closed, but only to the target.

Api peri was discovered in 1950 by Puncak Jaya.  Then, it was thought to somehow affect the optic nerve by constricting blood flow.  During the Apollo eleven mission in 1969, astronaut Buzz Aldrin reported seeing the visual phenomenon.  Subsequent missions of Apollo sixteen and seventeen carried a special detector on board.  NASA scientists found the cause of the flashes was high-energy particles passing through the spacecraft.  Since the effects of the particles are visible with the eyes closed, many astronauts had trouble sleeping.  We Earth-bound folk can not see cosmic rays generally due to the protection of the magnetosphere, a region of space surrounding the planet.

Api peri is most commonly used by ophthalmologists testing a patient’s optic nerve and by law enforcement.

Makeitbi gorsmall is a second level transmutation with an instant casting time, a duration of up to a minute, a range of thirty feet, and requires concentration to maintain.

Discovered by Russian researchers in 1962, this spell can both reduce and increase the size of an inanimate object.  The change in dimensions has a reduction limit of 50% and an enlargement limit of 100%.  The matter of the targeted object transforms into a muonic state which has the same chemical structure, but the atoms are two-hundred times smaller.  Mass is unaffected as matter is not gained nor lost, only changed.

Makeitbi gorsmall is used most frequently in the construction industry to raise heavy objects.  A substantial piece of iron or steel is first reduced to fit under that which is to be lifted, then once enlarged a jack is positioned in place and the process repeats.  Care must be taken with this procedure due to the spell's short duration.

Children will use makeitbi gorsmall to play pranks on their school mates by enlarging someone’s underwear, pulling the loose cloth from the rear and placing it over the head, then immediately using the spells reductive power.  This gaff has been dubbed, the atomic wedgie.

Virágzik is a first-level transmutation with an instant casting time and duration, and a range of thirty feet.

Casting this spell upon a blooming plant will cause every bulb within its root system to blossom.  The opening takes full effect in about sixty seconds.  After a few minutes, the plant will return to its natural state.

Florists have been making use of the Hungarian spell since its discovery in 1933 to liven up their stock.  Take care as forcing a plant to open too often can place it out of sync with the pollinatinga insects which it needs to reproduce.  If a plant spends its energy opening, then it cannot spend that energy growing leaves, stems, and roots.

The highest use concentration of viragzik occurs every year in Pasadena, California.  Dozens of floats use thousands of flowers for the annual Rose Bowl parade, and each one gets a boost to its natural beauty just before being judged.  This single day is responsible for 18% of the yearly use of the spell.

Bringithere is a sixth level conjuration, with an instant casting time, a range of touch, an indefinite duration, and a material requirement of a one-carat sapphire.

Bringithere allows you to touch an object under ten pounds and see an image of that object etch into the center of the sapphire.  Then, any time or place after that, crushing the sapphire will teleport the object instantly to your location, but only after the area above the sapphire dust matching the dimensions of the object is unobstructed.

The illegal use of this spell for drug trafficking has been occurring since the 19th century.  A raw carat sapphire may cost as little as 20 dollars and be used to transport as much as 100 thousand dollars of cocaine.  Since drug cartels use stolen and cheaply manufactured wands, the act is mostly untraceable.  And, smuggling small sapphires into the country is much easier than voluminous amounts of drugs.  Airport customs uses many traditional and magical methods to detect enchanted gems, so trafficking is mostly across land borders.

What makes the search for these gems at airports even more difficult is a high number of legal uses of the spell.  To avoid airline baggage fees, some travelers will cast bringithere upon their luggage before leaving home.  Depending on the airline, this method can save both money and effort.

NASA has used bringithere during the Apollo moon landing and Mars exploration programs.  Before launch, small sample collection containers have the spell cast upon them.  Once filled, crushing their corresponding sapphires will return them instantly to Earth, saving millions of dollars and time on a return journey.

Phusaphusaana is an entry-level enchantment, with a range of sixty feet, an instant casting time, and a duration of about a minute.  This spell from the bronze age prevents the target from hearing anything but your voice.  The spell’s effects are two-fold.  First, it silences all other sounds, and second, it allows the caster's voice to be audible despite any barriers present.  This spell only works on living things and not on any form of sound gathering technology.

Phusaphusaana is useful when having conversations at concerts or near heavy equipment.

One of the more unique uses of the spell occurred on July 16, 2013.  Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano was conducting a routine spacewalk to repair cables on the exterior of the International Space Station when water from his drink pouch began leaking into his helmet.  The water clinging to his face and mouth left him unable to speak correctly.  Not realizing the specific problem and assuming an error with his communications, astronauts on the station, cast phusaphusanna so he could hear them.  He signaled that he needed assistance, and the spacewalk then aborted safely.

Here on Earth, the spell has been helpful communicating with and soothing those with autism.

Puka makani is a second level divination which is cast upon the self, has an instant casting time, a one-minute duration, requires concentration, and has a material requirement of a copper coin.

This Hawaiian spell allows one to see into the mind of another who is within thirty feet.  The vision one receives is dream-like.  Images can be disjointed and frantic or clear and static. Putting the target in a frame of mind, by asking a question or displaying a photograph, often helps with focus.

There was a bit of false information floating around a few decades ago that said the average man thinks about sex every seven seconds.  But a study conducted at Ohio State University in cooperation with the Department of Magical Affairs used puka makani and found the actual number is closer to thirty times per day.  For women, the number is about half that.

Puka makani is used by law enforcement during interrogations, but the results are inadmissible as evidence.  There is no way of knowing if the viewed vision is a memory or a thought.  The mind is easy to manipulate with stimuli.  By asking a suspect about a crime, they could be the guilty party remembering details or an innocent person imagining the events.  Most attorneys will argue that the use of the spell is a fifth amendment violation as it causes someone to testify against themselves.  The matter is currently on the docket of the fifth circuit court.

Terremotto is a fifth level evocation with variable casting time and an instant duration.

Upon casting, the wand begins to absorb all forms of energy.  Solar, kinetic, thermal, even radio waves start to charge the wand. The effect is not significant and the only indication the spell is working is that the wand will have a slight decrease in temperature.  The energy is released when the castor touches the wand to the earth.  A kinetic wave is sent out, rippling through the ground.  The power this wave carries is proportional to the charging time.

Charging for one minute will tickle bare feet next to the wand.

Charging for a day will crack concrete where the wand touches.

The discovery of this spell at the turn of the last century was considered minor.  Two decades later, a boy in South America by the name of Lumaco found it in a library book and enjoyed showing it off to his friends.  Sometime in 1920, Lumaco cast terremotto then misplaced his wand.   Wand tracking was not as sophisticated as it is today, so the wand remained missing.  The Chilean Magical authorities found the wand and reunited it with Lumaco on May 22nd, 1960.  He tried for hours to get the wand to cast even the most simple of spells, but it would not work.  In frustration, he threw the wand out the door.  A little after 3:00 in the afternoon, he went outside to pick it up, and the moment his finger brushed the wand, forty years of stored energy released in a massive kinetic wave.  Lumaco was unharmed as he was at the epicenter.  But the tide of destruction destroyed 40% of the houses in Valdivia, leaving 20,000 homeless.  While people in Valdivia were beginning to recover, the terror was about to start for thousands across the Pacific.  The induced tsunami first hit Hawaii, killing 61 people.  Hours later it would batter Japan, the Philippines, China, New Zealand, and Australia, causing 7,000 deaths and $800 million in damages.

The United Nations announced a moratorium on terremotto in 1975, and it has had no recorded uses in the United States since that time.

Yami is a second level evocation with an instant casting time, a range of sixty feet, a duration of up to ten minutes, requires concentration to maintain, and has a material requirement of a piece of coal.

Yami creates a fifteen-foot sphere of darkness that absorbs all light within.  The outside of the magical area appears as perfect black with no reflection.

The spell works by absorbing photonic energy and dissipating it as heat.  Since the sphere has such a large surface area, the heat is released efficiently.

Fire Departments in the U.S. have been using yami for the better part of a century.  By casting the spell around a fire, the sphere acts as a massive cooling fin.  Since one of the legs of the fire triangle is heat, the other two being fuel and oxygen, the fire is quickly snuffed out.  Paramedics also use the spell for treating hyperthermia by cooling an overheated patient.

Controllo dell’acqua allows you to manipulate water, channeling it into a column or throwing it like a ball.  The amount of water lifted is limited by the strength of the castor as water has a weight of eight pounds per gallon.  With practice, one can control the width and length of the column, stretching it to the maximum three hundred feet.  The column has a weak integrity and can be broken when touched.

The most common use of this spell is for agriculture but it is also used for fire suppression and a summertime favorite for children seeking relief from the heat.

Aakasmikata is a sixth level evocation cast upon the self with a ten minute casting time and a duration of ten days.  The spell has a material requirement of fifteen grams of ivory.

Aakasmikata allows one to choose a fifth level spell or lower, which is cast upon the self and have that spell activate when certain conditions occur.  For example, aakasmikata cast with a spell that shields the body from heat will trigger should one come in contact with a significant temperature.

The secondary spell should be one with an instant casting time and little or no material requirements.

Discovered in 1580 in what is now India, this spell has grown to be controversial due to its use of ivory.    In 2016, the Obama administration banned this spell as part of the Endangered Species Act.  However, less than eighteen months later, President Trump lifted the ban despite the endangered status of African elephants.  The Department of Magical Affairs has been searching for a substitute since the early 1980s and will continue to do so.

By intent, little is know about the operations of the Presidential Secret Service.  In a documentary by the Department of Magical Affairs, we revealed the use of devjêberdan with permission.  At any given time, no fewer than ten agents are continually casting this defensive spell around the perimeter of the President as well as maintaining a non-magical sphere.  Since the Secret Services’ inception in 1865, no sitting President has ever been the victim of a magical attack.

Nostopburn is a second level evocation with an instant casting time, a range of touch, a material requirement of five milligrams of ruby dust, and an indefinite duration.

This spell creates a single candle power flame that produces no heat, nor does it consume oxygen.  The flame will rest about an inch above whatever object upon which it is cast, and will last until dispelled.

The oldest known use of nostopburn is as a navigational aid for ships.   A single candle does not sound very bright, but at night, the light is visible for thirty miles.  The most common use of the spell today is as a nightlight.

The most extended continuous use of nostopburn is by the Fire Department of Livermore, California.  In 2015 a party was held celebrating its one-millionth hour.  Daily visitors stop by to see the flame that has been alight since 1901.  If you would like to see the glow without traveling, the Fire Department maintains a webcam on their website.

Afsmitning is a level five necromancy spell with an instant casting time, a range of touch, and an instant duration.

On October 9th, we shared with you Makht krayz, a spell that releases beta particles to increase white blood cells that heal the body.  Afsmitning is a spell with the opposite effect.  Gamma radiation is released at the point of contact in the amount of around fifteen hundred millisieverts, which is equal to approximately a hundred and fifty thousand chest x-rays.

During the nineteen eighty’s a medical program in Copenhagen attempted to allow cancer patients to administer their radiation therapy under a doctor’s supervision.  While the theory was sound, the plan failed due to a high number of patients abusing the spell by giving themselves extra doses.  They believed that more radiation would cause them to heal faster.

In this country, Afsmitning is a controlled spell whose misuse is a felony.

Discovered in China in the early second century, gōngshè benefits hikers and surveyors today.

The spell works much like hypnosis.  It captures the attention of the target, making them fascinated with the castor.  The person is so enthralled that they are paralyzed and speechless, with no desire other than to gaze upon the one enchanting them.  Once the spell is broken, the target will feel like they have awoken from a daydream with no long-term memory of the event.

Meshelboyd can only be cast while the target and castor are making eye contact.  But, once active, the castor can move up to the maximum distance without eye contact and still hold the spell.  The spell may also be cast via a clear reflection.

This spell has been a favorite of thieves since it’s discovery in 1710 at the Istanbul Academy of Magic.  While enchanted, a victim will be robbed and left with only a hazy recollection of the event.  The act became so rampant that people began to avoid eye contact all together to avoid being bedazzled.  The culture was put at ease in 1780 with the invention of the Alachuan.  The Alachuan is a charm worn around the neck that is designed to reflect the effects of meshelboyd back to its origin.  In practice, it will leave the castor enchanted by the Alachuan for one minute, allowing the target to escape and inform authorities.

Eiríni is a second level enchantment with a range of sixty feet and a duration of about a minute.

Eiríni is a soothing spell that lowers aggression, calms fear, and can suppress charms and enchantments for the duration.  The spell will have varying effects which are dependent on the mental state of the person within its sphere of influence.  Someone enraged will become angry, anger becomes frustration, and so on.  Casting the spell upon someone calm may cause them to sleep.

Once the spell ends the target usually does not return to the heightened state, but it is possible if the person is prone to emotional swings such as those who have bipolar disorder.

Eiríni is an ancient spell originating from what is today Ukraine.  It has extensive use across government agencies.  The Coast Guard uses it to calm rescue victims, the Marshals Service subdues outlaws, and the Department of Education authorizes its use in the classroom for students over the age of twelve.  Use of Eiríni on newborns, infants, and toddlers is a federal misdemeanor as it has been proven to alter development with repeated use.

Hondong is a level four enchantment with a range of ninety feet, a duration of about a minute, and requires concentration to maintain.  It also requires three walnuts which are consumed by the spell.

Hondong creates a ten-foot sphere of electric energy which can disrupt the normal flow of electrons.  This energy causes a temporary, non-damaging reduction of brain function, which can cause confusion, hallucinations, and muscle spasms.

Discovered in Korea in 1950, this non-lethal deterrent has been in use by law enforcement in the United States since the early 1990s.  But, nearly a decade earlier, it was in use by another government agency, the US postal service.  Mail carriers needed a strong but non-damaging deterrent against untethered dogs on their mail routes.  When first implementing the spell, the Postal Service spent over half a million dollars issuing walnuts to mail carriers.

Hondong is authorized for civilian use but not everywhere.  The spell is banned in New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Wisconsin, California, and Washington D.C.

Nowwatimsayn is a first level divination spell, cast upon the self with an instant casting time, a one-hour duration, and a material requirement of a pinch of salt.

This spell, which was discovered by the Aboriginees of Australia, allows one to understand any spoken language.  The spell does not translate the written word, nor does it give the castor the ability to speak another tongue.

The mechanics of nowwatimsayn work like a slide show in the mind.  One doesn’t hear the foreign language translated into a native voice but instead, a vision of sorts is displayed.  The experience is unique to each person, but the result is the same, a comprehension of the spoken word.

Since the spell is not as much a translator as it is a conduit for comprehension, those who do not speak but wish to communicate such as infants and those with speech impediments can be understood.

Another use of the spell is as a somewhat reliable lie detector.  Since the spell shows the intent of a speaker, one can compare that with what the speaker says.  If there is a discrepancy, then deception may be at play.  This use of the spell is not always accurate as those skilled at weaving tales can mask their real intent.

Dinik’ineti is a level three divination spell with a ten-minute casting time, a ten-minute duration, and a range of one mile.  The spell requires a transparent sphere to cast, such as a marble, and concentration to maintain.

To cast this spell, hold the material in hand, and for ten minutes, a connection will build between your dominant eye and the sphere.  Afterward, place the sphere in a location and you can move up to a mile away and use it as a remote eye. But this connection begins to fade immediately and will dispel after ten minutes.

Due to the short duration, and the availability of modern technology and the much more efficient spell, occularis proxima, this spell has a low level of recorded use.  The most common use is for surveying and search and rescue.  Once cast, the sphere is placed in a slingshot and launched high into the air, allowing a brief, birds-eye view of an area.

Dinik’ineti was discovered in Ethiopia around 200 BCE.  This spell was kept secret for centuries as the Ethiopian people felt they were specially chosen by God to know it.  So powerful was their belief in this that they based their society around it, even saying that their day did not begin until sunrise when there was enough light for the spell to be used.  Today, most of the superstition has fallen away, but Ethiopians still begin their day at six in the morning instead of midnight like the rest of the world.

Makht krayz is a level five abjuration spell which is cast upon the self, has a duration of ten minutes, and requires concentration to maintain.

Upon casting, a sphere of beta particle radiation with a thirty-foot radius is formed which moves with the castor.  In most cases beta radiation causes burns and tissue damage as well as other symptoms of radiation sickness.  But in the sphere, this radiation has a singular effect of leukocytosis which is an increase in the production of white blood cells.  Research has proven that thirty minutes of exposure can increase an adult’s white blood cell count by seventy percent.  This effect, called Neutrophilic Leukocytosis, is temporary as the count will return to normal after one to three days. White blood cells flow through your bloodstream to fight viruses, bacteria, and other foreign invaders that threaten your health. When your body is in distress and an area is under attack, white blood cells rush in to help destroy the harmful substance and prevent illness.  The boost of these cells that makht krays creates can quickly heal injures, infections, and reduce inflammations. However, overexposure can cause the blood to become too thick and cause breathing problems, stroke, and death, a condition known as hyperviscosity syndrome.  Due to this possibility, makht krays is a controlled spell only to be cast by medical personnel.

Kruh smiercu is a sixth level necromancy spell with a range of one hundred fifty feet and a material requirement of fifty grams of crushed black pearl powder.

Upon casting, a sphere of dark energy, sixty feet in radius, expands from a point within range.  Anything within the sphere will receive a lethal dose of necrotic radiation.  Plants and small creatures will experience instant death, while anything larger will have a much worse fate.  Immediately, the dermis and epidermis will die.  The victim will not feel any pain because all nerve endings cease to function. Hearing and vision will cease in a few seconds.  The hair and teeth will fall out within five minutes, and fifteen minutes after exposure, the victim will go into shock as the organs begin to liquify.  Death is certain after half an hour.

The last recorded use of this spell with Belarusian origins was in Germany near the end of World War Two.

International Humanitarian and Federal law prohibit this spell from being cast, and there are currently twelve states including Indiana and Michigan, that ban all spells of this class.

Orberwarna is a first level evocation spell with a range of ninety feet and a material requirement of a diamond at least a half carat in size.

Orberwarna shoots a four-inch diameter sphere from the wand.  Upon impact, the sphere produces a blinding flash of light of around seven million candela and a percussive sound of about one hundred seventy decibels.

The flash momentarily activates all photoreceptor cells in the eye, blinding it for approximately five seconds. Afterward, the victim sees an afterimage that impairs his or her aim. The loud blast temporarily deafens the victim and disturbs the fluid in the ear, causing loss of balance.

The concussive blast of the detonation can injure, and the heat created can ignite flammable materials such as fuel. During the Iranian Embassy siege in London in nineteen eighty, orberwarna was used to stun the six men who had taken twenty-six people hostage.  The resulting fire damaged the building so severely that it did not reopen for thirteen years.

This spell is mostly used by the military and has been in official service since the late nineteen seventies.

taloina le uila is a level three conjuration spell with a range of one hundred twenty feet, a duration of up to ten minutes, requires both concentration to maintain, and a cumulonimbus cloud.

Taloina le uila is one of a few spells that is dependent on the weather.  Cloud to ground lightning occurs somewhere on the Earth about one hundred times a second and each strike can release a billion volts of electricity.  With this spell, you can direct this natural force.  The result is not precise, but a lightning bolt can be aimed with an accuracy of about ten feet.  Control can also be hampered if casting in an area with tall structures such as buildings and trees.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration strongly recommends a Category 3 Protective Clothing System when casting this spell.

As impressive as it sounds to wield lightning like the Norse god, Thor, no one has yet found a practical use for it.  Most of the energy of lightning is sent out as sound, light, heat, and radio waves.  If its total energy were available, a single lightning flash would run an ordinary household light bulb for only a few months.  So, for now, flinging lightning is more form than function.

Āga hātha is a first level, evocation spell cast upon the self, with a range of fifteen feet.

This spell focuses infrared radiation from the palms of the hands for only a few seconds.  A source of infrared radiation must be present either from an electronic lamp or the sun.  As such, the spell cannot harness the sun once it has passed below the horizon.  The approximate temperature created is seven hundred degrees Fahrenheit, and care must be taken as to where it is focused.  The palms of the hands must be flat and opened away from the self and others.  Severe burns can occur if used incorrectly.

The spell is relatively new having been discovered in the early eighteen-hundreds.  Homes of the time had a thick piece of steel in many rooms that could be used to absorb the energy from Aga hatha and radiate heat for hours.

Today, modern technology has made heating the home much safer, but the spell has not fallen out of the lexicon.  Many Boy and Girl Scouts have earned their campfire building badge by mastering Aga hatha.

The preventative value of Forcëlies in its ability to be cast moments or minutes before being activated. And it will be by even the lightest touch, including the foot moving to the ground when taking a step.

The spell works much like the portal spell except no doorway is created and the result is instant.  Care should be taken not to priobadh yourself too high as this would result in a fall.

Blann se ofginn is a third level evocation spell cast upon the self with a one-minute duration.

Within the protocols used by the police and military, blann se ofginn ranks among other non-injurous defensive spells. Once cast, a layer surrounds the body of the castor and if anything strikes it, the kinetic energy is instantly converted into thermal energy. Depending on how much energy is converted will result in a slight heating of the air or a bright flash which can be stunning.

You may have heard anecdotal stories about a sky diver who’s parachute failed to open and used blann se ofginn to save his life. While this sounds plausible, the physics just don’t work. The spell would certainly have saved him from impacting the ground but the compression from suddenly decelerating would have been catastrophic.

The spell is often used to protect against sudden collisions if one has the presence of mind to use it such as an automobile collision or falling debris.
