Listen. I know all about being stuck. And I have a feeling you know a little something about that too. Can’t make up your mind? Can’t get shit done? Can’t resist clicking the “Still watching?” pop-up on Netflix after 10 episodes in a row? We’ve all been there (last night, to be exact). Discomfort & Chill? is a podcast by me, Katrin Berndt, that will loosen your grip on the TV remote and get your butt off that couch. I don't care if you have an essay to finish, a workout to complete, or friends to make. I got you. Spoiler alert! It will feel gross. But please don’t make me feel gross all on my own. I need you to join me, one episode at a time. Seriously. Hit 'subscribe' if I can count on you!
Get ready for some tough love, my friend. This week I get a little fired up when talking about relationships and who's responsibility it is to make us happy. We spend so much of our time trying to control the world around us in order to feel the way we want to feel when in reality the only thing that can make us feel anything is our own brain.
I am going to share some examples from my own relationship, where these issues have shown up in the past and how everything has changed for me since I let go of the idea that my boyfriend needs to make me feel happy and loved. That is simply not his responsibility.
I also talk about my 8-week coaching program called The Girlfriend Glow-Up which is now open for enrollment! There are only 8 spots left for the October round, so if you're ready to completely change your way of thinking and feeling, click the link below and apply today!

What exactly is the difference between experiencing pain and suffering? In this week's episode, I talk about physical pain, emotional pain, and the suffering we cause ourselves through the stories we tell about the pain we experience.
You might have heard the saying that pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional. And that is what we are going to dive into this week. I will give you plenty of examples and some journaling prompts for you to explore your own pain points in life where you think reality should be different than it is.
When we argue with reality we lose 100% of the time.

This week's episode is a little different compared to my other ones. I wanted to talk about coaching and what it's all about. What is it like to work with a coach? What's my job as your coach? All these things are covered today!
I also share my chosen direction for my coaching business, who my client is, and why I have chosen to work with her specifically. If you think coaching sounds like a good option for you, don't hesitate to reach out to a coach that resonates with you. Pick a coach that is specialized in the area you're currently struggling with. It can be completely life-changing!

This is one of my absolute favorite topics to think about and talk about right now. The fact that circumstances are neutral as they exist in the world. but as soon as they enter your mind they will no longer be neutral, even if you think they are. Something can be factual and circumstantial but as soon as you think about it, it will generate an emotion in your body. SO fascinating!
I have spent a lot of time recently thinking a semi-factual thought that I've just thought "is true". Well, turns out it's not harmless to think about just because it can be considered a fact. And even if it, in my case, isn't necessarily harmful, doesn't mean it's useful or productive either! It actually held me back without me even knowing it.
I'm very excited for you to listen to this episode!

Trigger warning! In this episode, I will mention sexual harassment and abuse. Nothing graphic or detailed, but I just wanted to let you know ahead of time.Today we are going to talk about free will, choice, options, and how to apply our ability to choose in any situation. We will talk about why it's so disempowering to think that you don't have options when you do, and the fact that there are extremely few things adult human beings have to do in life. Naturally, there will be consequences of our actions regardless of what we choose... but that does not take away our right!
This information can then be applied to your relationships. Are you exercising your right to choose how to think, feel, and act? And are you allowing your partner to exercise their right to do the same? Perhaps this is a topic you want to explore further. In that case, I have created a 5-Day Challenge for anyone who wants to become more aware of what free will looks like with their partner!

When we say that our heart wants one thing but our brain wants another, or we intellectually believe something to be true but it doesn't feel true in our hearts... what is it we are really saying? Does our heart really have the ability to think for itself? Is the heart even involved in creating any kind of emotion in our bodies?
In this week's episode, I go to the bottom of this eternal war between the heart and the brain. I will give you some questions to journal about and take into consideration for you to sort it out as well. What do you really feel when your heart wants something, and how does it differ from the feeling you get when your brain wants something? What is mutually exclusive between the two?

In all relationships, we have very clear expectations that we want the other person to live up to. They might be individual, cultural, or societal. There are just things you do and things you don't do and that's that. We almost never question why we believe these things. And a lot of the time it leads to us trying to control the other person so that we can feel better in the relationship.
In this week's episode, I share some of the most powerful work I have done so far when it comes to my personal development. It has improved almost all the relationships in my life and all it really took was for me to stop trying to control the other person so that I can feel better. Sounds simple, right? Well, it kinda is. But also kinda isn't.
Tune in to this episode to find out exactly how to let go of your own manual for the people in your life, and what tools to use in order to still look out for yourself and decide from a place of love and compassion what you are okay with and what you aren't. Boundaries never come from a place of trying to control the other person.

When I started my podcast I committed to creating 100 episodes. Now I'm a 10th of the way there and it feels amazing! This journey has been so much fun so far. To celebrate, I wanted to do an episode of Ask Katrin.
I answer some of your questions regarding emotional healing and processing, financial issues, and not sharing your opinions out of fear of conflict. I really hope you enjoy this episode 'cause it was a lot of fun to make!

Welcome to the first episode of Guided Coaching. In this episode, you will be guided through a journey of allowing an emotion in order to process it all the way through. You can do this exercise when you are struggling with a specific emotion or when you just want some practice feeling what you're feeling in your body.
Really take some time to think about the questions I ask and focus your attention on where you feel the emotion in your body. Your body's initial reaction might be to tense up and try to flee, that's okay. Just gently bring yourself back.
Make sure you are in a safe space while listening to this Guided Coaching track and make sure you're not operating any heavy machinery.

When you feel something, are you aware if you are resisting, reacting to, avoiding, or allowing that emotion? Do you know where the emotion comes from and how to generate a different one? This is what I will teach you in this week's episode!
Emotions are patient. They wait for us and they don't just go away because we ignore them for long enough. The most productive way to process emotion is to feel it. Allow it to be there. Don't immediately reject it or try to feel better.
Towards the end of this episode, I will guide you through one way of processing emotion. We will focus on it and feel it. Narrate what's going on in your body. This part of the episode is available as a bonus episode as well so you can refer back to it at any time.

In this week's episode, we talk about our relationships with ourselves. What are they? How can we improve them? How do we know what's actually true about us and what is not?
Join me on a journey through the four different versions of me that I have made up in my mind to try to explain the interactions I have had with other people. To protect myself, my brain has come up with these identities to explain why I am the way I am. Spoiler alert, it's not serving me at all. So it's time to do something about it.
I also give you 3 steps you can take in order to start improving the quality of the thoughts you think about yourself on a daily basis.

Do you find yourself asking "Now what?" as soon as you have accomplished something you have been working on for a while? Or perhaps you're in a constant state of "Now what?", always looking for something else to sink your teeth into, with the hopes of it improving your life.
In this week's episode I talk about the "Now What?" Trap and the long-term effects of constantly looking for the next thing to do. When we achieve something and it becomes the new normal, it's so easy to forget all about the journey to get there. We might even hold on to a subconscious belief that everything will be amazing once we "arrive", and as long as things are 50/50 good and bad, there's some place better than right here, right now.

Feeling like an imposter at some point in your life is completely normal and most of us will probably feel something similar before we die. Self-doubt is a part of being human and it has its logical explanations.
But what about when your entire life becomes a mission to not be exposed as a fraud? When everything you say and do becomes an act to trick people into thinking you know what you're doing? This might be a case of Imposter Syndrome.
In today's episode I dive deep into the logic behind Imposter Syndrome, what we keep telling ourselves that perpetuates the idea that we have something to hide, and a 5-step process to begin overcoming this paralyzing psychological pattern.

When deciding what to believe about ourselves and the world we often resort to being "realistic". We think some thoughts are more realistic than others and therefore we look for evidence before we fully believe it to be true. 'Cause who wants to be delusional?
The problem is that we often take this concept way too far. It stops us from believing things about ourselves and our abilities which leads to results we don't like. We look for evidence in our lives to support the thoughts we already think on a regular basis and find that evidence over and over again, which makes that belief even stronger.
So how do we get out of this negative spiral of creating evidence for negative thoughts, which makes the negative thoughts stronger and stronger? First, we need to understand the order things happen.
Big thank you to my follower Laura who participated and shared her belief that she is a quitter. I hope you will find this interview helpful!

"I don't know what to do or what to say"
In this week's episode, I share my thoughts about the idea that we need to know how to do everything right before we take any kind of action. Specifically when it comes to being a privileged white person trying to be a good ally of the Black Lives Matter movement.
This idea is stopping a lot of people from doing anything at all, and that is not helping anyone. Why are we so unwilling to try and fail?
I want to encourage all of you who listen to this episode to open up to the idea that racism is everywhere and not just in the minds of "bad people". It's our responsibility to find it within ourselves and clean it up. To do that we need to be willing to acknowledge that it's there.

What's your goal in life? You just want to be happy? Then this is the podcast episode for you. You might not think so, but the idea that the ultimate life is a happy life probably causes you unnecessary suffering on top of the pain you experience. Maybe accepting the 50/50 good and bad isn't such a bad idea.
In episode 2 of Discomfort & Chill? you will learn all about feelings and where they come from. How exactly can our feelings be created by our thoughts? I know what it's like to not feel in control of what you feel, but I promise you that understanding this concept will allow you to release some judgment of yourself and not suffer for no good reason.

How do you decide to move on from something that has been a huge part of your identity for many years? How do you decide where to go for dinner? You might think that those are vastly different, but the thought process is the same. We are just not aware of it most of the time.
In episode 1 of Discomfort & Chill? you will learn about two common obstacles that stand in the way of making up your mind. I also share the thought process I have gone through for the past few months (or years) regarding my YouTube channel and what I want to do with it going forth.
Decisions aren't always easy to make, but there are ways of making it easier on ourselves.

I know what it's like to live life with an underlying vibration of frustration. There are so many things we wish that we could "just do", but there is always something holding us back. Perfectionism, anxiety, self-doubt. The list is long. But all things we want to get done have one thing in common: discomfort.
Discomfort & Chill? is a personal development podcast by Katrin Berndt where we will explore what it's like to feel the annoying and uncomfortable vibration that often is necessary as we check things off the to-do lists of our lives.
